I posted some upgrades that I found in issues of the Rifter that you'll be able to purchase with your level increase Bio-E points. Take a look in the Lore tab to see what's there.

Also, there is the heavy armor of the Dreadnaught that is available to purchase at level 5 for the Dreadguards of the party.

2. We have 6 days-plus to get this mission done so this seems pretty feasible to me. If we travel this way, it seems to me we'll have plenty of time. But I'm not the Game Master. If we go this route, how will we be with time?

2. It is conceivable that you could get to the complex in less than an hour of straight flying, assuming you don't run into any obstacles. It will take some extra time to stop and place the Trailblazers every few miles as you go, and there is the risk of machine encounters. Just remember that the mission is to place the Squealers on sensitive places in the complex to draw in the Kamikaze Worms and observe the results. The sooner you get there, that will give you more time to sneak in and place the homing beacons for best effect, then you can dig in at a safe distance and chill until the Worms get there and do their work.
Sherwood Sherwood Hey Bud! Over three months ago Real Time (back in mid-March) you agreed that we had 6 days to reach the Facility. One day has passed in-game (at the most two if I missed one?). Most recently, you posted:

You now have 22 hours before the Kraken begins to launch its Kamikaze Worms. What do you do now?
Now, it wasn't long after this that you fell ill (29 March 2024) and I imagine that could very well throw things off, but I wanted you to be aware that I think we are missing 5 days (bare minimum 4)? Or did I miss a post somewhere where we ate up well over half of a week? I don't recall you mentioning us sleeping except once?

For some reason I had thought you guys had taken longer to get there than that. You are right, and I'll edit the IC post to reflect you still have four days left, since some time was used up in the hike and ducking and covering when you might get detected by air units or other ground forces.

Thanks! =)

Hey Purr Purr . We haven’t heard from Chaska about being one of the two infiltrators into the plant to place the homing devices. Are you ok with that or do you have any concerns about it? I don’t want to speak for your character.

On a side note, that Dreadnought armor looks pretty sweet. I may have to upgrade to that armor at fifth level.

Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Lots of firepower, lots of armor, but poor maneuverability. That weakness helps to balance out the advantages of the suit.

That’s fine. You will have plenty of time to ponder before you have a chance to upgrade to that armor.

I have things I want to say, but I should wait until tomorrow. =)

Sherwood Sherwood As anyone who has ever gamed with me for long can probably guess... I have questions, please! =)

The best approach to the industrial plant leads you along at a good pace and the miles quickly pass. Soon you are within visual range of the plant.

Looking it over, there are three different structures, one large and two smaller, and a high speed monorail line connects to the facility to the rest of the world. Several Battle Tracks can be seen patrolling along the outer perimeter, along with several dozen smaller bots. A small landing pad can be seen that has room for several aircraft, but only a few heavy transport lifters are there, unloading supplies to the plant. Finally, there is a wall that is twenty feet tall that has guard towers spaced out every five hundred feet with weapon emplacement visible on them. This place would take quite a bit of firepower to bring down in a direct assault.
1. What is "visual range" of the facility? In other words, what is our range from there?

2. What time of day is it? What's the weather like now?

3. So there is an outer perimeter with Battle Tracks and "several dozen smaller bots," and an inner perimeter that starts with a 20-foot tall wall with guard towers every 500 feet?

4. If the above is true, then the landing pad and monorail are "extras." These are places where the Machine has machines to do its work. Can these two places be completely avoided? (Can Jin and Chaska use the sounds of the incoming aircraft and monorails to advantage while moving?)

5. Is there a position the rest of the team can take that puts them within firing distance of the pad or the monorail?

6. Finally, if #5 is true, a question for Sherwood, Psychie Psychie (I'm not pinging Mirgris because it sounds like he has Real Life going on right now) and One of Hearts One of Hearts - do your characters (including NPC Axel) have any kind of armament that can nail either the pad or the monorail (or both) without giving away your positions? Meaning mortar-like fire, projectile (bullet, cannon), but NOT laser beams, plasma, and anything that the Machine can quickly say, "that fire came from that spot right there!" if you get my meaning?

I love questions! Let’s do this!

1. You are currently three (3) miles out from the facility. Your suits have optical zoom that gives you decent visuals on the place. You are currently in a camouflaged spot that lets you observe and try to determine your entry to the place.

2. Right now it is mid afternoon with mostly cloudy skies that look very much like rain is in your forecast soon.

3. Correct. The whole place is surrounded by the wall, including the air field. The bots on patrol outside are the only ones you see, but it is very likely that there are more inside the buildings. The watchtowers are every 500 feet with weapon turrets on them to give interlocked fields of fire.

4. Probably yes, they can be avoided. The monorail is on a raised track that goes over the wall with towers on either side of the track to keep people from using it to sneak in. Remember, your prime targets are not the airfield and train, but the munitions and the assembly lines inside.

5. The ground closer than three miles has been cleared of trees and other plant life to keep intruders away. It is possible for someone to creep in closer using the camouflage on their Host Armor, but it would be risky with no other cover.

6. Gus has a set of fifteen bio-rockets on his armor that have a max range of one mile. Axel only has light projectile weapons with only a few thousand foot range. Toni has her Omega Cannon, but that is a beam attack.

Overall, the only two that can get in close without moving very slowly to keep from compromising the camouflage of the suits are Jin and Chaska. Everyone else has to go slow or risk detection.

As much as I hate to sit this one out, it seems that our best chance of success is to have everyone sit tight and let our stealth team do their thing.

If the data is as I think it is, I'll disagree and I'll give you good reason why. =) (Goes off to read Sherwood's post.)

Sherwood Sherwood 7. Does the rain affect our stealth in any way? Say, adding Prowl bonuses or what have you?

8. Does waiting until nighttime affect Jin and Chaska's stealth?

The watchtowers are every 500 feet with weapon turrets on them to give interlocked fields of fire.
9. How many Machines seem to be watching from each watchtower?

10. Do they have blind spots?

11. What kinds of weapons are on the turrets?

12. The Kraken will launch regardless in 3 days and 22 hours?

6. Gus has a set of fifteen bio-rockets on his armor that have a max range of one mile.

Psychie Psychie Ah. The 3-mile killing field wasn't mentioned in the original description. Glad I asked. Yeah, that nixes that idea.

7. Yes, rain will give bonuses to prowl for both the stealth fields and camouflage.

8. The books don’t say anything about a Predator style aura around the stealth field, so I will s say that there is no difference in day or night operations for you.

9. Unknown.

10. If you are pressed up against the wall, any turreted weapon will have a harder time angling down to get you in a good line of fire, but there is still the roaming patrols to contend with.

11. Unknown, but it is likely to be missiles, rail guns and energy projectors of some sort.

12. Yes. From this far out, there is no way to communicate to say “launch sooner” or “abort mission”, so they will be firing in one minute intervals at go time. There will be a total of twelve missiles launched.

Perhaps if we use the rain as cover we can set some explosives on the monorail to cause some damage at the same time the Kraken is firing.

Why? For the sake of acting? The facility is the only target.

If it's action you want, I had a back-up plan concerning the monorail. It goes like this: a monorail is like one long chain, right? Sever a link between stops, and no matter where that link is, the monorail as a whole is stopped cold.

Our Bio-Comms have 6-mile range. Should something happen to Jin or Chaska (say, we fail a Prowl roll - by the way, I'll be blowing Action Points like they're going out of style on this one), then a distraction is just what the two of them will need to improve their odds of survival.

So... have the rest of the team go farther down the monorail line - to some place in good range of your weapons (at least Gus's rockets and Toni's Omega Cannon) - and should the worst come to pass at the facility, our characters sing out. You guys hit the monorail hard enough to stop it. That might get the Machine's attention enough for it to split its forces.

Problem is, it makes targets out of you guys too. Bad enough to lose Jin and Chaska; worse still, the entire team. But... if it's dice you feel like rolling, that's the best way I can think of making it.

One more thing and this one concerns Jin. Eonivar Eonivar Jin's a Roughneck. Chaska's a Deliveryman. Their Prowl scores are about 28 points difference (Jin has a 40% Prowl, Chaska is sitting at 68% - before rain, before Action Points). Plus, Chaska's got a Wing Pack - if all goes south, he and Woodstock can literally fly out of there. Does Jin have something similar?

Eon, if you'd rather Jin go in with Chaska, please use up Action Points too (especially since we've hit 2nd level, they've been refreshed; we have 6 each).

But on the other hand, if you'd rather Chaska solo this with Woodstock, he's up for that too. Chaska's not used to working with a group - he's better solo, though he's also open to working with others in serious stuff like this. Chaska also thinks Jin has been solid so far. So it's not a matter of trust - it's a matter of how all of us feel best wanting this to go down. I'm strongly betting we only get one shot.

Your call. I want to throw it out there because if Chaska ends up getting wasted, well, I can roll up another Splicer. But you just rolled Jin. I don't think it's fair for me to not bring up something like this given the data in front of me, you know?

I'll back whatever you decide, friend! =)

Honor and fun,
Purr =)

EDIT: Ever have one of those thoughts that sounded better in your head. Well, now that I've gotten some sleep, that's what I think this is. I can see how it could be taken in the wrong... spirit (for lack of better word)? So I'm editing this line of thought out.

Game on and have fun, friends! =)
