That suits me fine, actually. I'm thinking a comparatively minor in the Hundred Kingdoms cheated out of her inheritance by overly ambitious siblings or cousins. She'd have Exalted since and then returned for revenge and building her country into something to be proud of.
If the rest of you want to follow along with that pitch, we can start before or after taking the country back over, depending on what kinda things we want to actually do starting out.

Yeah, I was thinking that this circle could try establishing itself in the Hundred Kingdoms. You can certainly start by being in control of a country there if that's what you want and the rest of the group agrees, but you'd have to take the Influence merit to represent it, with the number of dots indicating the power of the country (One dot would be a town with farms and such in the surrounding lands, two dots would be low-average for the Hundred Kingdoms; a small city as the capital and a few villages paying tribute, three dots would be mid to high-average; a small kingdom with a moderate-sized city as the capital and more villages. And so on and so forth). You might also want to take the Command merit, to represent your country's armed forces. If you don't take it, these'll be limited to a town guard for your capital; able to keep order, but not likely to conquer other kingdoms or successfully defend your own.

Before I commit to one path or another... Any preferred mode of transport? Ie. Land vs Water. Given the vast expanse of land, I'm leaning toward adding ride and survival as favored.

I've also considered taking investigation and medicine on this character, though intelligence dots will be middling at best.

Character background I'm looking at was a farmer's son who lost his home village to an assault of some sort. Still waffling on how ambiguous I want to leave the circumstances so jaydude jaydude has some loose threads to play with.

My experience with Exalted says that barring major artifacts or setting the game in the West, as time passes the preferred mode of transport tends towards summoned demons.

I've only rarely played with a demon summoner in the party. Most of my local group is rather suspicious of such things after reading through RotSE in 2E. Hard to overcome that instinct for us even with a new edition.

Still, given that we dont have a summon spell or transport spell evident yet. Looking like early game will be using old style carriages depending on what Red Shadow Claws Red Shadow Claws plans on picking up.

Just let me know what y'all are thinking and I'll see what I can manage to fit in to fill gaps or compliment with support picks.

Demons are just so freaking convenient, the Agatae are basically made to be perfect steeds for Exalts, and they can even go Immaterial while not in use.

That said, I really like transport by water, and the Scavenger Lands is river-country, so moving by river boat gets us pretty much everywhere we want faster and with more carrying capacity than horses.

I like the idea of taking over a small country in the Hundred Kingdoms, and depending on what the others want, I can focus either on building boats, if we go the river route, or maybe focus on crafting arms and armor for the local army, to equip them better. I am likely to start with high Lore, but probably not too high an Occult rating. Might want to develop that in-game.

i have [Stormwind Rider] and [Demon of the First Circle] now, as you suggested.

Ah excellent. The hurricane is decidedly not subtle but it is the fastest mode of transport that I know of in 3E.

I can still dabble in Sail given three of us are fans of the idea. Though I dont think I'll have room to grab any Occult charms for fighting spirits without it eating up a fifth of my charm pool. Also doesn't make as much sense for this character to have that kind of occult prowess (outside of having to frequently placate a particularly insufferable spirit for agricultural reasons).

Note: Weissplus Weissplus if we go the Sail route there is a spell for making the ship skyworthy, should you find that interesting. It is in the Dragon-blooded book though iirc.

Do we have any options among our number for conflicts with spirits? Outside of sending summoned demons after them, I mean. This looks like it might be a general gap in the circle until we have time to grow into our power. Zen'th is supernal occult after all, so a charm for forcing spirits to materialize is easily doable at any point down the line.

Red Shadow Claws Red Shadow Claws Why build weapons and armor when you can just build everyone warstriders? On a more serious note, you might also consider being able to construct a Demesne or Manse. Those can be real handy especially if Esbilon has already reclaimed their land and we're more on the defensive and just trying to secure our position in the world.

Where do y'all stand on whether or not to start out by reconquering my ancestral home, or having already done that off screen?

I think it would be more fulfilling to do that in play, and I am good with starting with that.

Weissplus Weissplus , I'm currently looking through your character sheet. So far it all seems okay, but I've got a couple of questions I'd like to ask;
* Could you please fill in the details for your attacks on the sheet (attack pools and the like) as well as the type, duration and cost fields for your charms?
* Shouldn't his Evasion be three, not four? And how are you calculating his Parry rating?
* Could you please provide a bit more about his Resources merit? Is it his income from trading? Is it a stipend from his father?

I have a Dragon-Blooded character that's focused on Geomancy (building demsenes and manses), so was thinking on doing something a bit different.

I know what you mean. I'm looking at Solar Melee and very heavily considering taking Single Point Shining in a Void style again as a Solar, it just seems to have more punch to it for what I'm looking for. I have mixed feelings about a Soldier using a martial art like that too. Suffice to say, it's rough and nailing down this key decision and it's a huge part of what's taking me so long. I may just have to look into leaning more on an artifact's evocations for combat techniques than some of the rather unimpressive facets of Solar Melee.

Is it just me or are most of the charms in 3ed not as interesting?

Also, last decision to make before I just have to finish typing up my character's personality and backstory. Do I start with a few artifacts like the smashfists and the shadow belt, or do I wait to gain some artifacts during the game in favor of some higher Ability scores?

jaydude jaydude I plan on investing Merit points to have Sun's Brush as an Artifact, but it seems better for the weapon to be found during the adventure. Would you be ok with me spending the dots, and you weave finding the weapon into the story?

Sure. Just tell me where I can find the details for the artifact so that I can look at it later (Am in town at the moment).

Arms of the Chosen, page 44.

Also, would it be ok if I tried my hand at converting the Ink Monkey from 2ed to 3ed? They appear on page 106 of the Ink Monkeys Ultimate Collection.

I'm looking to write up an artifact as well. A Red Jade-Orichalcum Daiklave for sun-fire attacks and leading troops from the front. Given the time that will take, I too am leaning toward a delayed acquisition or to wait till it can be crafted depending on how things look once I get closer to finishing the sheet.

Is it a custom artifact, or is it also in Arms of the Chosen?

I'd say pick one as the main Magical Material.

It would be custom, but I'd be drawing precedent from Arms and Dragon-blooded. I have pdfs for those I can send if you need them.

By "Dragon-blooded", do you mean the 2e guidebook? If so, I've already got that.

And as for the artifact, I don't see why you can't have it, though in truth I am a bit nervous about handling custom artifacts in my first game as storyteller.
