Erika laughed softly. That was... that was... wow. "Alright." She could just go to sleep before he got there. No biggie.

Standing up, she carefully walked up the stairs, feeling like she could fall asleep at any moment. Pushing the door open, light shed on the room, revealing that Alex was already in bed. Her heart skipped a beat, and she stayed completely still, as if he might not see her that way.

He apologized for something... did he say something? Was she not paying attention?

"... Ah, no problem." She stood there like an idiot, staring out the window for lack of a better place to look. "Okay," she said quietly, quickly climbing onto the bed. Lying there for a second, she crossed her arms, looking at the ceiling, unable to sleep. She let out a noise of discomfort, and carefully got under the covers, thinking it was strange how she was under the covers, but he wasn't.

It was so strange, in fact, that she began to laugh hysterically. The girl covered her mouth to muffle the noise, with little effect. She managed to gasp out occasionally, "I'm sorry," before being set back into a fit of nervous laughter, making her entire body move as she tried to stop her little episode. The laughter felt nice, especially considering how uncomfortable she had just been. That didn't make her shameless, though. Occasionally, she would go completely silent for a full two seconds, her eyes shining with humor.

"You two would look great together."

Q pretty much choked on his own spit at the comment. Was that really...did Ria actually...? That couldn't possibly be the actual reason she'd kept his identity a secret, could it? She couldn't like him. Girls didn't like Q. He was shy and awkward and half the things he said didn't make sense to anybody and...and...

His face was flushing a deep red. Again. He could feel his skin practically burning off. In fact, he was so busy trying not to die of internal combustion that it took a second to register that they had stopped and everyone was getting out of the rig. Shit, even the dead guy had miraculously revived himself like a freakin' zombie and stumbled out to the--

Whoa. Now that was an awesome cabin! Wuuuuuut the fuck? Where the hell were they? He didn't know a place this cool and rustic (but oddly still modern) could exist not too far from the city limits!

Forgetting all about, well, pretty much the entire conversation from the car and the zombie guy and the shirtless chick, he swung his pack around onto his back and dropped his skateboard to the driveway, stepping onto it and rolling out around the concrete circle in front of the house for a minute. His eyes scanned over the entire building, taking it all in before he looked around at what little of the scenery he could see in the dark. It was neat, kinda like the vacation spots his family used to stay at in West Virginia when he was younger.

He smiled as he remembered those days. Ahhhh, good times, Mom and Dad trying to get him out into the country so he'd stay off his internet for a little while since "there was no signal out there." Ha. Cute. As if. It wasn't like he didn't like being outside though; he was simply made for multitasking. There was nothing wrong with enjoying a mountain view while still checking his gamer scores. Vacation efficiency at its finest.

Standing with one foot on his board to keep it still, he stayed at the far edge of the driveway just breathing in the night air. He supposed he'd have to go in at some point. He'd seen everyone else go in except that other chick who'd been sitting in the row with him and Ria, but he figured she probably tagged along after the others. He would join them in a minute. Or two. Maybe three. For the time being, he just needed those few extra minutes to breathe. His life, he just realized, was about to get way more complicated than he ever imagined.

Alex was about to close his eyes when he realized something,
cold. The air apparently decided to kick itself on right then as opposed to always being on in the first place, Seeing as he was getting a sudden chill, Alex quickly hops under the covers on his side of the bed. Shortly thereafter, Alex thinks about the sudden laughing from Erika and searches his mind for something to say or do. Alex rolls over in the bed, now facing Erika. "How can you express yourself around everyone? How is it that you're not just your job? You seem to shine so bright sometimes, even when there's no reason. How?" Alex says, staring straight into Erika's eyes.

Alex, after a few seconds, realizes what he's said and imagines how weird it sounds. Alex leans in close to Erika before whispering to her, "I'm asking because I don't really know how to 'shut off' anymore. I've kept my emotions hidden from everyone for so long, it's hard to even smile around more than one person. Why are you so bright?" The Fox realizes that he was only a couple of inches from her face, but he doesen't care. For the first time today, Alex doesn't care about something.

Ellis Tahoma

That Guy

Ellis was a free man, he walked off cause being arrested didn't do shit for him. Apparently insurance covered him but that's highly unlikely, considering he threatened his insurance people and... So on. Hell, being a free man changed him, for no reason at all, it was all in reasoning for no reason. Like, how the fuck did he get out, didn't want to ponder on that for too long since well.. He had some calls to make.

Ellis honestly doesn't know how to pay for something that he can't pay for, he could be on a warrant but he was sure the police were on something, like imagine if they were stoned. Man. Ellis grabbed a random man off the street, pushed him into an alleyway and started well... Quite dangerous.. You could say they got a little rough. After his essential beat up, Ellis picked up the man's phone and took a minute to remember Jess' burner phone. He decided to call instead of text because... Science.

He waited.

Erika calmed down after what seemed like ages, closing her eyes so it seemed like she wasn't anywhere, and maybe sleep would take her away from this uncomfortable, uncomfortable situation.

From beside her, she heard, "How can you express yourself around everyone? How is it that you're not just your job? You seem to shine so bright sometimes, even when there's no reason. How?"

Her eyes opened, and he was
right there.

"I'm asking because I don't really know how to 'shut off' anymore. I've kept my emotions hidden from everyone for so long, it's hard to even smile around more than one person. Why are you so bright?" Alex asked.

She looked away from him, making her hand into little finger guns.

"Bang," she said quietly, trying to think of how to answer. Finally, she smiled nervously.

"I think there's plenty of reason to smile, I mean-" she stopped abruptly, her smile disappearing. Without another word, she glanced at him once more, pulling the blankets up to her shoulders, her demeanor suddenly cold, as if she hadn't wanted to be reminded of something. Closing her eyes, she tried to go to sleep, which, from her experience, was the worst way to actually go to sleep. Not that she could, anyway, with him.

"Okay, Switch, this is what you wanted," he told himself under his breath before he turned around to head back towards the door. "New career, new challenges, nothing different from anybody else. No one ever said adulting would be easy."

Oh! That reminded him--he stopped in his tracks and dropped his pack to the ground, opening one of the little side pockets to pull out a package of Hostess cupcakes. Thank god for the little plastic container that had kept the cakes from being smooshed; otherwise this whole thing would be ruined. From the little pencil pouch in the front of his pack he pulled out a small box of candles and a lighter, and sat himself on the concrete, placing everything on his skateboard.

Three candles would be enough, he deduced, and pressed them one at a time into the top of one of the cupcakes, sliding them in between the little frosting loops.

"One for my birthday," he mumbled, "one for the day I moved out, and one for officially becoming a member of Black Cat."

They were all things to celebrate, he figured, even if today hadn't exactly gone as planned. Cupping his hand against the slight breeze that was blowing across the property, he lit the candles, closed his eyes, and made a quick wish--nothing extravagant, just a hope that things would start looking up from there and he'd make it through the next year alive.

"Happy birthday, Q," he whispered and blew out his candles, sitting there for a second as he inhaled the smell of the smoking wicks. He sighed as he pressed up on the bottom of the container, popping his cake out. "Welcome to adulthood."

Alex stares at Erika, mouth slightly agape, as she makes a finger gun and shot at non-existent targets. She began to give an answer, but quickly stops talking and seems to do what Alex does, put up a wall. "Ah-Uh-I'm-Uh.... I'm sorry if I made you upset." The Fox says, rolling over and facing the wall away from Erika. What made her upset? Why did she only partially explain how to loosen up around people. "You know, just.... forget what I asked you. It wasn't important anyways." Alex says exhaling and curling his legs up under the covers.

The covers were already up around Alex's shoulders, The Fox just brings the covers closer to his chest, creating a nice bundle around the front of his body. Alex thinks about earlier, when Erika held his hand while he was bleeding out, such a nice person.
I'm going to smile tomorrow. Alex thinks to himself. I'll smile for something.... someone... I'll smile for Erika, maybe she'll do something funny or cheerful. Alex thinks, letting out another sigh and finally closes his eyes.

She stayed in the living room for the most part, watching everyone get settled, and some go to bed. Eventually, she got into a bath, feeling clean for the first time in a while. And the blood. She was covered in it from her interaction with Alex, and changed the water four times when it started to look the slightest bit pink, until it stayed clear. She got dressed quickly, taking Jess's offer to borrow some of her clothes. Which, apparently, Jess never wore. Because the clothes were adorable. And Jess just wasn't adorable. After changing, Eraveeva watched the leader talk on the phone, assuring someone that she could organize some sort of chauffeur. She sat down next to Jess, closing her eyes. Just as she did, Jess said calmly, "Don't get comfortable."

EV opened her eyes, getting that the woman wanted her to go pick someone up. Taking a few more seconds before working up the energy to talk, she exchanged the location with Jess, standing up to go to go to the garage.

"Get some sleep," EV suggested, getting a scoff in response, as if the idea was ridiculous.

Heading out to the garage, she found a variety of several-hundred-thousand dollar cars, with the keys all hanging on a bulletin board, begging to be stolen. She plucked a key off of the rack and clicked a button, making a Saleen S7 blink. She smiled. What a happy little car. Bringing her hand up to her face in shame at that childish thought, she slid into the car and pulled out of the driveway, the garage door closing automatically.

She tried to remember the way back to the city, and ultimately had to use a GPS.

Each car she passed, into a more populated area of the city, made her more scared that someone would find her. Why didn't he have any normal cars? No. Another stupid question.

Pulling up to the outside of the city jail, she parked and got out, finding it was mostly empty, save a few officers and a blonde man, maybe a couple of years older than her.

Figuring this was him, she waved before carefully crossing the street, and saying quietly, "You're Ellis? Eraveeva, or EV. I work for Jess," She paused. He didn't look scary. She'd heard about him being scary, but he looked like a little b*tch. She almost laughed, but just smiled a bit, motioning towards the car.

"Let's go," she said quickly, hurrying back to the driver's seat and starting the car, serious once more.

They were within five hundred feet of God knows how many people who wanted Black Cat to burn in Hell. Not a great place to play cards and talk over a warm glass of milk.

And warm milk was gross.

Ew.

Action: Going To Sleep, Looking

She listened to him carefully, easy, in the almost silent environment. Erika, not facing Alex, thought over something, seeming confused, and eventually annoyed, at being unable to sleep. She reached over to grab the blanket, but stopped, not wanting to steal it from him. Almost too tired to stand, she simply rolled off the bed, almost fluidly, landing with a thump on the carpet. She curled up into fetal position, blinking slowly as she tried to sleep.

Good God.

An action like this should've been simple. She literally had to do nothing. Smirking for a moment at how incredibly stupid this entire situation was, especially for her, she stood up and went to the window. She stood on her toes to look through it, and put her hand on the cool glass, struggling to look through the high window. She couldn't breathe for a few seconds, not caring that it was a bad view. Not only were the stars out, and entirely visible away from the city, but it was snowing hard, certainly going to be at least five inches.

Tilting her head, her lips curved into a smile. She said quietly, "Did you know that Syracuse, New York tried to ban snow before Christmas? It's known as one of the snowiest major cities." She paused. "The biggest snow sculpture ever created was called, "Romantic Feelings." It's one hundred fifteen feet tall... I got to see it when I was a little kid."

She gave up on trying to see it well, and leaned her shoulder against the wall, staring at the beam of light coming from the window, which lit up a section of the room. After a few seconds, her eyes darted back to Alex, and she became serious again, at a deadpan expression.

"Do you want to see? If not, I'll let you sleep. Promise."

The Fox sits up, hearing a thud on Erika's side of the bed. It didn't take him long to see the girl on the floor and it took him less time to crawl over to her side of the bed to see if she was OK. "Erika, are you....uh..." Before he could finish his question, Alex trails off, watching as the girl walks to the window and struggles to see out of it. "Um Erika if you want I could-" but before he could finish the question, Erika begins talking about the tallest statue in the world and slumps against the wall.

Alex gazes at her, turning the question over in his mind while trying to think of an answer at the same time. While Alex was unsure of what Erika wanted to show him, he wasn't wanting to disappoint the kind girl. "Sure, I wasn't tired anyways."
Lies, right through Alex's teeth. The shooter crawls across the bed, his right foot dragging the covers down as he does. As Alex reaches the end of the bed, he stands and steps off the bed, causing his foot to catch in the covers. Thud. Before he knew it, Alex had tripped, stumbled, and fell right on top of Erika. It took him only a second to realize what had happened and his eyes widened in disbelief.

She is cute.

Was the first thought that entered Alex's head as he laid his eyes upon Erika's face. The light that came in through the window illuminated her, making her features become more apparent to Alex. "Sh-Shit, sorry. The damned covers caught me!" The Fox exclaims, trying to lift himself off of her, but finding himself unable to; not because he was physically unable to, but because he wouldn't let himself get up.

She watched the few moments before he answered, a bit nervous that he would get angry at her. Maybe he was being nice, but what happened in the car- Holy shit. They were sharing a bed together.

It doesn't matter, she decided, but nonetheless, she was still excited when he said he would come over to the window.

It was one of those slow motion moments people have, right before disaster. It usually happened involving drinks or glass, not humans... falling on top of each other. Alex gets up... his foot remains twisted around the covers... imbalance... impact...
good evening floor.

She froze, and then everything came together again, that moment of insight gone, and she was back in real life, full speed and very uncomfortable. She froze again, realizing that they were touching. It was a stupid realization- of course they were. But its different between having hands bump, and practically laying on top of each other. It wasn't even "
practically." They were.

After that brief moment, which didn't seem very brief at all, she spoke, with a mix of frustration, embarrassment, and... was there a word for that that wasn't slang, or slightly inappropriate?

"Ah, yeah. Covers caught. I noticed." Absolute best place to add sarcasm, of course. But she wasn't giggling. That was a plus. She moved her shoulders slightly, shifting underneath him, noticing that he didn't immediately jump off of her.

"Wow, uh. You're actually
on me, I mean..." She pointed out in a small voice, "Could you help a bit? Just, scoot three or four ... meters to your left?"

As Q was eating his cupcake he noticed the slight wind from earlier was starting to pick up, and it was getting colder. If that meant what he thought he meant--

Hup. Yep. He grinned as a few soft snowflakes began to fall around him, and tilted his head up towards the sky as they quickly increased in volume. Oh man, he loved snow, but he wasn't exactly dressed for it, and with it being dark out he'd get really cold really fast if he stuck around outside for much longer. Shoving the rest of the second cupcake into his face, he chucked the garbage and the lighter back in his pack, scooped everything up, and booked it towards the main entrance, pausing only momentarily to let a car pass that had slipped out of the garage. Nice wheels, but not exactly built for snow. He hoped whoever had just gone out would make it back okay. The snow was really starting to pick up, and fast!

Feeling the wet already beginning to seep through his sweater, he dashed through the door and laughed as he tumbled inside and closed it behind him, effectively shutting out the cold. He caught his reflection in the little mirror hanging on the closet door, seeing his hair was speckled in large white snowflakes, and took a moment to brush the majority of it away before leaning his board up against the wall and continuing his way inside.

"Cool," he murmured as he took in the layout of the house and the decor from what he could see just in the main foyer, feeling like maybe his birthday wish was already coming true. If he had to lose the fancy apartment for this place, he considered that a pretty fair trade. Plus snow. He was so going out first thing in the morning to build a snow fort.

Yeah, yeah, he had just celebrated his becoming an adult, but no one was too old for a snow fort. Unless they were dead inside.

Spotting Jess hanging out on a couch, he popped over, his big, stupid grin still on his face.

"Hey! It's snowing!" He plucked at his damp sweater. "I sort of absorbed some of it. Is there a...um...like a specific bathroom I should be using so I can change and stuff?"

"There's twenty," she said, feeling deja vu. How many times had she answered a similar question. "Take your pick. Lock the door, though. There seems to be a peeping tom. That also happens to be blind." She said this with a straight face, though she wasn't serious.

Ria appeared from the stairs, and began,
"Hey, Jess? Where-?"

"With Q," Jess responded immediately. There it was. That question.

"I wasn't going to ask that."

"Ask what?" Jess looked up innocently, feeling a sharp pain in her nose. That was odd... Her mouth began to taste like pennies.

"It's okay, Jess."

"Dad, don't drop me. It hurts. It hurts really bad."

"I'm not going to drop you. I'm a grown man."

"So what? Now-"

"Oh, I know. It happens all the time, believe me."

"I wasn't going to say that."

"Say what?"

"That women can't carry- You do this all the time. I'm serious. My ankle hurts so bad. It's killing me!"

"You're killing me, so I guess we're even," Halen said, beginning to pick up his pace toward the van.

"Don't joke about that. One day you're going to die, for real."

"What! This is breaking news to me," Halen said. "Listen, I know what I was getting into when I joined this thing. So did you. It was your choice. I am going to die one day, sooner or later. And you're going to be just fine. I don't look like it, but I'm really upset that you got hurt."

"Huh. You certainly seem like it."

He just laughed, setting her down in the van after everyone else got in. Ria watched quietly, a little amused.

"Anyway, I'm happy as long as you stay alive."

"You're happy right now?!"

"As a clam. Watch your foot."

He slammed the van door shut.

"Ask where to sleep." Ria said. It took a moment for Jess to respond.

"I didn't say you had to sleep with Q. But apparently you were going to ask that, or you wouldn't have assumed that's what I meant. I'm not going into that with you, though, Ria."

"Okay. Wow. Don't have to be such-"

Like lightning, she flung her shoe at Ria, saying something. What did she say? Did it matter? Looking at Q one more time, she left the cabin, pausing on the porch before heading to the garage. Her bare feet stung in the snow, making her wince with every step. Not the best dress for a trek through a blizzard, either. But it would be quiet there for a while, until EV got back.

She didn't make it. Right before the door "sensed" her, and opened, she erupted into uncontrolled and unreserved tears.

How long had it been since she cried like that? A year? No. She didn't cry like this when her dad died.

She interrupted her own sobs every few seconds with a choked laugh, at how pathetic she was for crying about her dad an entire year since he died.

Losing the will to stand, she sat down on the concrete, gripping her hair in her hands just to feel something other than the cold of the cement.

I don't need to hold it back. I don't need to do anything. I don't follow the law. Why the hell should I care what people think about me? Gradually, her thoughts became more violent, which didn't seem to calm her down, only making her mumble out incoherent sentences that echoed what she thought. They can fucking die. They don't need me. They'll die whether I'm there or not. I don't give a fuck about them. I can leave right now, but I don't because I'm not like that. I'm like my dad. I'm a great person. And they don't see that. If they did, we wouldn't be on the news. Fucking guy all "disgusted" with me. That piece of shit needs to get his head out of his ass. My father built this, and I'm keeping it together. Not one damned thing can tear it down.

Then, she didn't think, really. She did, but it was like looking at her mind through glass. Watching the movie that was her life, and listening to everything he told her about... anything. Every word he said meant the world to her now. But back then, that's what she called them, just words. They weren't words now, but gifts. There wasn't a single person she would want to spend another moment with. Just another gift could change her world.

But then, she would want more. Enough was never enough, and she could never really let him die. That made her more human than she already was, didn't it? Wasn't that a normal feeling when someone lost something they lost?

Just one more time.

As if the window had shattered, and she was whole again, Jess blinked. How long had she been sitting there, exactly? Enough time for her tears to dry.

As if rebelling, a single tear fell into her lap, and she stood up, her legs almost asleep.

She wanted to say something. Talk to herself in third person or whatever.

Stretching, she entered the house through the garage, wiping her feet on the mat before making her way to the kitchen on the other side of the huge house. Maybe she could just stay there for a while, and scare people that came in wanting a glass of water before bed.

Or something.

Ria got dressed, not wondering why the owner had male and female clothes. Actually- she did. Was it for disguise? Private hobby? Girlfriend? After she got dressed, she hurried downstairs, finding that Jess was talking to Q.

"
Hey, Jess? Where-?"

"With Q," she said quickly, almost as if taunting her.

Admittedly, she was going to ask where she was supposed to sleep, but she said, for the sake of argument, "I wasn't going to ask that."

"Ask what?"

"Ask where to sleep."

"I didn't say you had to sleep with Q. But apparently you were going to ask that, or you wouldn't have assumed that's what I meant. I'm not going into that with you, though, Ria."

"Okay. Wow. Don't have to be such-"

In one swift movement, Jess tore off her heels and grabbed the heel part, sending it flying towards Ria.

She let out a squeal, dodging it by a few inches.

"
Jess, for C-"

"Reflex test," she announced, tossing her other show onto the floor haphazardly.

"You two can share the room at the very end of the hall upstairs. Be nice to each other. Come to me in about an hour if you need a condom." She left the cabin, almost hastily, making her way out to the garage. Without sparing another thought on it, Ria jogged up the stairs, and went to her room, tempted to slam the door.

But it looked so expensive. She left it open. flopping down onto the bed and getting in, surrounding herself with blankets until she looked like a mass of white covers, with no identifiable figure whatsoever.

"Anywhere in particular you'd like to see?" Dio opened his mouth to answer but before he could say anthing to answer Charlotte's question, Anais slipped inside the car with a rifle her hand. Goddamit, talking about awful timing, Dio thought- as he listened to Anais's thought of the situation.

"Think it might be a better idea to wait for Mira around the corner than here? The authorities are bound to track us to this place and quite frankly, I'm in no mood for a shoot-out despite being prepared for it."

"A shoot out will do nothing but attracting unwanted attention. We might need to abandon the vehicle and continue on foot, if not stealing a car, which is a very bad idea considering that how famous we are right now." Dio checked his watch and clicked his tongue, as he started to drive out of the parking lot. "Sorry girls, but i don't think i can any chances of risking our time and cover to wait any longer. God knows what Mira is doing right now, but i hope she understand my reason... She will, right? I sure hope she's going to forgive me- and not going to beat this pretty face of mine to pulp. That'll be such a waste."

A small smile appeared on his face, as he turned on the radio for some music (or news report about their current predicament. Sure helps that in these past few years the media is really loose lipped about sensitive information like where the police aer heading and what kind of force they are sending). After turning it on, he turned on the GPS installed inside the Phantom and turned on the navigation to whatever hideout Jess has prepared for them. Seems like a cabin in the woods, judging from the location displayed on screen.

"You girls can enjoy my champange, just make sure you didn't drink enough to get drunk- since it'll be such a hassle to carry you inside the hideout and we sure as hell need everyone to be cautious for whatever may happen on the road- and save some for me- everyone else, heh." Dio grin at the thought of cooking dinner and serving his champage to his friends (But he'll keep his red wine a secret for now), but that smile soon disappear as he remembers that one his so called 'friends', someone that he already sees and accept as a 'family' was going to betray them. And he, or she, almost suceed if it's not because Jess's failsafe.

"The traitor... is the traitor inside this car, one of the three of us?" Dio asked a dangerous question. If the traitor is indeed one of them, they could shot him in the back of head and kill the other one as well, then leave their bodies while the traitor make their run to the safehouse and falesly reported that they are died in an attack by the police. But still, he feel that he still need to ask. "I'll be honest: Not me. I see the Black Cat as my new family, after running away from my old one- No, i don't even want to call that woman 'family'- Anyway, i won't betray the people who took me in when no one wanted to."

Hello? Brain? Are you on?

So. Many. Things.

He'd been about ready to go bathroom exploring when Ria's question and Jess's immediate spouting of his name stopped him in his tracks. What?

Hyperdrive thought time. He was sharing a room...with Ria? With a girl? There were other guys. He could share a room with a guy. The zombie. He'd totally share a room with the zombie. Zombies were cool. Or the flirty guy who'd been all over the shirtless girl. He seemed kind of funny. Or the thinks-Q-doesn't-look-cunning dude, because then Switch could be his little shit self and show duder how cunning he could be--he'd done it to his dad enough times. But maybe there were reasons Jess didn't want him with any of those guys, in which case he supposed sharing a room with Ria wouldn't be so bad. If he'd been paired with any of the other girls then he'd have to go through introductions all over again, and he'd already proven how incredibly smooth he was with all that (could his brain possibly sound more sarcastic???). Yeah, maybe sharing with Ria would be okay despite the earlier teasing in th--

DID SHE SAY CONDOM?????

Brain = shut down.

When it fired back online he found himself standing there, blinking dumbly, knowing by the feel of it that even the tips of his ears had to be red. He glanced over at Ria and for some ungodly reason that he would never figure out, a laugh that made him sound like a crazy person came bubbling out of his mouth. Oh yes, so, so, smooth.

"That's, that's funny," he babbled as he made his way past her towards the stairs. "A con..cond...we don't need that." That sounds wrooooong. "Oh! Not in the, 'Hey let's have unprotect--' Ugh." Breathe. "I just meant, because, you know, we're not..." He pointed back and forth between them for a minute before giving up and pointing up the stairs. "Last bedroom, right?"

He pretty much darted up the stairs, still waiting for that internal combustion thing to happen at aaaany time, until he opened the door to the assigned room.

"Oh, thank you every freakin' deity in the universe," he muttered as he laid eyes on the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen...or ever seen in the past five minutes, anyway. Bunkbeds! He was saved! Bunkbeds made everything feel like kid's camp where the least innocent thing the kids could get up to was playing Spin the Bottle. He'd never played that game. Because kid's camp for him was tech camp before his parents realized tech camp had turned him into a little techie-loving monster, and then they wouldn't let him go back. He missed tech camp. No one played Spin the Bottle at tech camp. And there would be nooooo spinning of any bottles here.

Relieved, he turned and darted back down the hall, nearly tripping over his own feet in the process and stopping himself at the top of the stairs.

"Dibs on top bunk!" he rattled off at Ria at hyper-speed. "And you can have the bottom bunk, and we can tack a blanket over it so you can have some privacy, okay?"

Location: Cabin; Living room ? Kitchen // Interacted with: Jess (@Quarantine)

He was back in the living area. His eyes wandered to the clock on the wall and found that it was already nine in the evening. David couldn't help but think how mere hours ago everything was still normal--or at least, as normal as normal can be for someone who was a part of Black Cat. But maybe this was normal as well? Legality was always their enemy, there was always the risk of getting caught. David knew what he was getting into when he signed up for this, he just didn't expect that they would be on the run so soon. He wasn't prepared, but he suspected that he wasn't the only one. Imagining and knowing the scenario that may happen is vastly different from actually living and experiencing it.

David sighed at the thought as he ran a free hand through his blond hair. Somehow, as he was mussing to himself, he'd made his way to a window. He'd gotten himself distracted, lost in thought. He stared at the scenery and saw nothing but nature--not exactly something he was a huge fan of, but not something he loathed as well. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a glimpse of something small and white fluttering down to the ground. It was starting to snow, not that he took great notice of it. His mind started to wander back to the subject of his family, the one which he had pushed aside before they got to the cabin, and quickly shook his head. It was only nine in the evening, he had plenty of time to mull over it later thanks to his insomnia. He was about to turn around and head to where he last saw Jess to ask where he'll be rooming, when the scenery before him caught him off guard. It was still nature, but now with the addition of falling snow--not just light falling snow as well, it was snowing heavily. A blanket of white was beginning to cover the landscape.

As interesting as watching snow fall was, David had something else to do. He turned around and was expecting to see Jess but found no sight of her in the room--much to his surprise. David frowned. Where could she have gone off to? He dropped his bags in the sofa--no sense in lugging them around with him everywhere--before going to the first place he could think of: the kitchen. When he entered, he found no living soul in sight. David was about to try a different area in the house--one of the rooms, maybe--when the back door opened and in came the very person he was looking for.

"Jess there you are! Wher--" David stopped mid-sentence as her appearance sank in. She was partially wet, was it raining out? He stole a quick glance at the window by her and found that it wasn't raining, but rather it was snowing--hard. What was Jess doing outside at this time and this weather? David was itching to ask her but found himself asking a different question. "Are you alright?" Concern was laced in his voice as he asked this.

Charlotte perked up as Anais came in. She got over her slight disappointment at not hearing Dio's response quickly. The red head had weapons locked and loaded in her hands, as well as her token cat. Charlotte had a soft spot for cats and, despite her own denial, her own impression of Anais was probably heavily influenced by the later's feline companion. Growing up with a beloved family cat had left life altering effects even the small blonde couldn't ignore. Still, even without the cat, she had always found Anais extremely calming and genuinely liked being in her presence even when Scout wasn't around- though she rarely had to encounter an armed Anais. She felt an urge to pet the cat but her waning focus from the current situation kept her from doing so. Besides, they were all on their guard. Anais could shoot her hand off on reflex if she so much as reached out too quickly without warning. And despite previously claiming otherwise, she rather liked her hands.

She grew quieter as the other two carried on with the conversation. As she let Anais and Dio talk about shootouts and leaving Mira behind, she kept her gaze out the window in hopes of Mira suddenly appearing. Unfortunately, no one else showed up as the car left the parking lot smoothly. Not unsurprisingly, she was more disappointed at the time wasted waiting for her than at the absence of the young woman herself. They had waited all that time only to have a mere three out of four members. Personally, she understood that they had to leave Mira behind to save their own lives and was perfectly happy with the decision. It meant using their remaining time as wisely as possible. As the car continued on the highway, she relaxed significantly at Dio's competence as a driver. Passively impressed, she watched as he readied the GPS and almost immediately knew where to go. Dying on the road after being exposed would be too petty of a death for her to bear. She didn't even know who to haunt or blame yet.

Then out of nowhere, Dio started, "The traitor..." Charlotte, who was barely listening until now, silently prayed he wouldn't say anything stupid. "...is the traitor inside this car, one of the three of us?" This time, Charlotte felt compelled to look at him, her face momentarily confused as she processed the question. She was simultaneously horrified, amused, and insulted. In fact, she barely kept from bursting out in giggles. Surely this must be a joke. To put it bluntly, she was stunned. Just...flabbergasted. Why would he ask such an important, disastrous question out loud? And did he forget people could, well, lie? It was the question on everyone's minds but this didn't seem like the ideal time to mention the so-called traitor when betrayal was still fresh. "I'll be honest: Not me. I see the Black Cat as my new family, after running away from my old one- No, I don't even want to call that woman 'family'- Anyway, I won't betray the people who took me in when no one wanted to." A brief silence followed before she decided to respond. Unlike Dio, she wasn't going to explain her backstory. Apparently she wasn't as trusting as he was. "Well, if this will help ease everyone's minds..." Frankly, she found this an utter waste of time but whatever. If this is what they wanted, then it would be what they got. "For me, I don't have the motive, energy, or -more importantly- time to betray Black Cat. I'm completely swamped with work 24/7. Besides," she replied in a patient voice, as if explaining basic arithmetic to a toddler. She could barely keep from rolling her eyes or snapping at them for making her actually explain her reasons for not betraying them. "This organization, what it stands for, it actually means a lot to me." She paused, thinking about her brother and the uselessness of the school's disciplinary system, her whole reason for joining BC. If she were less careful, a mention of her brother and his suicide might have slipped out. "I truly wouldn't hurt it." She threw in the word 'truly' like claiming honesty meant anything, even adding a small, nostalgic smile for effect. But if empathy appeased them and their suspicions, she didn't mind.

Just like Dio's question, the snow started unexpectedly, out of nowhere. And once it started, it only got heavier. Charlotte never liked the snow, or even the cold for that matter. Snow was mushy and wet and uncomfortable, very unlike its untouched, sparkly self. She shifted away from the window, pushing her backpack and edging towards the middle of the backseat as a small attempt to get away from it. She wasn't visibly disturbed but her behavior gave away her intentions well enough. And here the three of them were in their party attire, totally unfit for the snow. She stared at her hands in her lap quietly, deep in thought now that memories of her brother were invading her mind. She absolutely loathed being reminded of horrible tragedies but sometimes it just happened.

"
Jess there you are! Wher..." He went quiet, examining her. She finally looked up, and heard him say, "Are you alright?"

"
Boo," she said suddenly, as the words processed with her. After a moment of tense silence, she leaned back in her chair and said, "Just went to the garage for a while for some peace and quiet."

It wasn't a lie. Jess didn't just lie, after all. She could twist the truth around, or even under-exaggerate things, but she didn't lie so easily. After a few seconds, she said calmly, "
You have... insomnia, right?" She thought she heard it once before, and he was always available during the night for seemingly no other reason than staying awake so long. That, and he hadn't asked her the damned question yet.

She seemed unusually comfortable around him, maybe she was too tired to care, and maybe she just stopped trying to care about how she or anyone else looked. Or the alcohol had taken a late effect on her. At that thought, she brought her hand to her head, and found her hair had become a mess. Unsure what else to say, she finally offered him a seat across from her by asking, "
David, uh, you can sit down if you want. I'll be awake for a few more hours." Or days. Who else was up? Dakota, maybe. He was still in the living room, as far as she knew. Eraveeva was picking up Ellis. The rest were in bed. If she had been drinking something, she would've choked.

Ellis. She'd talked to him so quickly and formally, but she didn't really want to live with him anymore. BC couldn't function normally as it was.

She looked back up at David, and combed her fingers through her hair, feeling uncomfortable in the dress. A realization hit her, and she said quickly, "Sorry. You were looking for me?" He wanted to ask it, didn't he? It wasn't as bad as she made it out to be, getting asked the same thing. Kind of like being a teacher. She let out a laugh. "I'm taking a room for myself, so you're sharing with two others. Not until they get here, so you should have time to find sleep before they come. Just make sure to be up by nine, or I'll wake you up. Goodnight."

A wave of exhaustion hit her at that moment, one of the worst feelings she had the luxury of encountering. Letting out a small groan, she touched her head gently. When was the last time she ate? Shaking her head, she realized that was a bad idea, so it didn't matter. It would be like eating ash. Nothing ever tastes good in this sort of mood.

Ria sat up from the bed, having already claimed it. "Uh, sure." She lied down again, a smile on her lips.

"
Hey, Q? Do you have any secrets?" She paused for a long moment. Her voice became cheerfully malicious as she said, "I'll tell you something if you tell me the real reason you're not the spy."

She didn't know why she was blaming him, or even why anyone would assume he would sell them out right before being accepted. Maybe by being suspicious, it would rule her out as being the one who started this. She took her hair down, the strawberry blonde falling over past shoulders.

"
You don't have anything to worry about, if you're the one. Not because I didn't give them your appearance, but because you didn't kill anyone yet, being so new, so if you happened to be out for us since the beginning, it would explain why they just said they knew where we were. They thought Jess would panic, and reveal herself, plus you wouldn't have to kill anyone, no matter what they did to others. Win-win, for them. And you. Would you get a raise? A promotion? Your dream job?" She spat out the word "dream" like it meant his life was perfect.

She looked over at him, expressionless. "
Just speculating here. I have just as much proof that you're guilty as I do that you're not." She looked at her nails, the red paint cracking here and there. She had an extensive knowledge of technology, and, if he was anywhere close to her level of skill, he would know where they were by tracking the IP address of Jess's e-mail. And he was, because he was accepted.

Anais Fiennes

Location: Phantom >>> Cabin

Interaction: Charlotte (
@Aes) & Dio (@too much idea)

As they cruised down the road, Anais ran her fingers through Scout's fur as he tried to find a comfortable spot on her lap, then Dio asked about whether the traitor was one of them. The corner of her mouth twitched as she contemplated the question. None of them knew each other's tells. It would be easy for them to outright lie to each other, but she'll give them the benefit of the doubt as she listened to Dio then Charlotte say that they have no motivation to sell them out.

Even if the destination on the GPS is in the middle of fucking nowhere, she'll give Dio the benefit of the doubt that that's exactly where the others are at right now - in a cabin or something in the woods - and ignore the urge to pull her gun on him and ask him what the hell he thinks he's doing. She can already hear her DI screaming in the back of her mind for not being cautious enough.

She leaned back on her seat, fingers still running through Scout's fur as he finally settled on her lap, looking every bit like some cliche villain.
"I'll admit," Anais began, glancing over to Dio then at Charlotte over her shoulder then she shifting her gaze to the front, eyes wide as she watched the snow fall in fascination, "... that I do not have any particularly strong attachment to Black Cat as you two obviously do." The words rolled off her tongue just as easily as they would have if she was lying.

"However, I don't think I'll get close to active duty as I do in the organization elsewhere. Why sell out a steady supplier of my fix?" A sardonic smile tugged on her lips as she let her head fall back against her seat, one hand falling from Scout and near her pocket. Just in case, she reasoned with herself. Just in case.

Moments after the words fell from her mouth, the car began to creep into the forest, making Anais conspicuously stiffen up in her seat, painting a vastly different image from her pseudo-relaxed stance.

"Boo."

David merely blinked and stared at her, not knowing how to respond to that. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but thought better and immediately closed it again. It was one of those few moments when words seem to escape the smooth-talker that is David. Silence had formed between them. This soon dissipated as Jess filled the air with her voice.
"Just went to the garage for a while for some peace and quiet." David nodded at her words. He didn't doubt that that was where their leader had gone off to but he also knew that she wasn't telling him the whole story--not that he expected her to. For the most that he knew her, David knew that Jess wasn't the sort to open up easily. Hell, almost everyone in Black Cat was like that, and David was no exception.

When Jess asked about his insomnia, David nodded. That wasn't the main reason why was there, but it was true nonetheless. Insomnia was a bitch. There are nights when David simply wished to sleep the day off but couldn't thanks to it. Today was undoubtedly one of those days. Although David hasn't tried to sleep just yet, he already knows that he wouldn't be able too.
"David, uh, you can sit down if you want. I'll be awake for a few more hours." He nodded once more at her words and moved towards the aforementioned chair. David didn't sit on the chair though, rather, he stood beside it as he continued to watch the girl before her. Jess right now was... different. It wasn't regular Jess that he was facing rather a version of her that he hadn't seen before.

"Sorry. You were looking for me?" David was taken slightly aback by this. That was the reason why he came there, was it not? If so then, why couldn't he find it in himself to answer yes? Jess started laughing and continued on with explaining the rooming situation for him. Hearing that he would be sharing a room with two other people would normally upset him, but right now that was the last thing on his mind. The subject of room assignments flew away from his mind the moment he'd seen the state that Jess was in.

Without saying a word, he went to the cabinets and started looking for something. He quickly found what it was he was looking for and returned to where Jess was. In his hand were two wine glasses and a bottle of red wine. David set down the glasses in front of Jess and opened the bottle in his hand.
"Pinot Noir," he said as he started to pour a small amount into both glasses. "I've found that a little alcohol in the system helps." He set the bottle down and a thought suddenly crossed his mind. David took two of the apples from a nearby fruit bowl and quickly went over to the sink to wash them. He then tossed over to Jess before making his way back to where she was and sitting across from her. "Not exactly sure if you've eaten anything yet, but alcohol on an empty stomach is never a good idea. Hope the owner of the cabin doesn't mind. If he does I can pay him back," David said with a shrug before taking a bite out of his own apple, following it immediately after with a sip of wine from his glass--okay, maybe a sip was putting it way too lightly; David had practically gulped the entire thing down.

"I know you're not someone who opens up to others," he began saying as he started to pour himself another glass of wine. "But I just want you to know," David looked up at her before continuing, "That I'm here to listen if you need to talk about things. I would say the same goes for others but right now, with a spy being one of us..." He gave a low rueful laugh. "It's not me by the way. Just wanted to throw that out there. If I wanted for Black Cat to fall, then I would've gone about it differently."

David lowered his gaze to the wine in his glass as he started to swirl it around.
"Hey Jess, if I told you something about me, will you be inclined to open up as well?"

vSeLKHQ.jpg

A series of thoughts ran through her head at every one of his statements.

Ha. I don't think he'll mind. I'm sure you can pay him back, not that he needs it. She caught the apple that suddenly flew towards her and looked at it, an odd feeling overcoming her. It felt like something was lodged in her throat, not unlike someone was choking her. Her face grew uncontrollably hot, until she felt like she would pass out. Her thighs throbbed, and she put her hand on them in reflex, feeling something cold and wet.

Jess looked down, and carefully pulled up her dress, finding blood coating her top of her thighs, which were carefully hidden under the table. It didn't hurt at all, really. It was even numb. No... she just... There weren't words for that yet. As she stared more, she began to notice things she should have felt earlier. There was an amount of blood to an extent that it gave her a chill. Being wet generally made things cold. Maybe it had only recently started bleeding. How unlikely. But why didn't she feel the wounds? It made her confused more than scared. Also, she noticed that the wounds seemed to come from scratch marks, deep and admittedly animalistic. She froze for a second. She hadn't been attacked, had she? She didn't want to look, but she had to. She
had to. She had to. Knowing what she would see, or something worse. The girl turned her palm over carefully and examined her nails, which contained blood and even small flecks of her own skin and flesh, under the blue painted nails. When did I do that? I... I need to shower.

She wasn't alarmed, exactly, and looked back up at Daniel, more serious. Wait. What did he just say? Trying to recall it, she found his words in the back of her mind.
It's not me by the way. Just wanted to throw that out there. If I wanted for Black Cat to fall, then I would've gone about it differently... Hey Jess, if I told you something about me, will you be inclined to open up as well?

"
Hey, no problem. I'm not doubting you guys, I mean, you're my family now. You're all I have and all I can count on. Sure, there's a spy. That's not the worst thing that could happen. But I'm sure once we figure out who it is, we can get past our-" She stared at the linoleum floor beneath her stool, which had begun to accumulate an impressive amount of blood. What caught her eye was the fact that it was growing. It has a mind of its own, she thought, almost laughing. She smirked at David, seeming to be amused at her own rambling. "Listen, David. You go off to bed. You can drink in your room. Just leave me be for a while. I'll take a shower and then join you, okay? I'm not feeling well right now."

She rolled the apple toward him. Looking at it gave her that feeling that something was inside of her throat, trying to suffocate her. Her heart thumped ahead of "schedule" and she said, without giving him a chance to even move, Jess clenched her teeth and spat out, "
Jesus Christ. I make the rules around here. Go. Leave, for fuck's sake." She brought her hands together under the table, cleaning the mess from under her nails. She stared at David, with no obvious intense emotion. It was all just mixed and put into a package of complete calm and tranquility.

He continued to slowly swirl and watch the red liquid in his glass as he waited for Jess to respond. Wine was never his alcohol of choice, he much preferred a can of beer over wine and a bottle of vodka over beer; wine had simply been the first thing he found and it was good enough. His gaze moved back to the woman before him as she started to speak.

"Hey, no problem. I'm not doubting you guys, I mean, you're my family now. You're all I have and all I can count on." David felt a small tug up on the corners of his mouth. He placed his left arm on the table and leaned forward, silently urging for her to continue. "Sure, there's a spy. That's not the worst thing that could happen. But I'm sure once we figure out who it is, we can get past our-" The small smile that he had on his face fell and he frowned slightly as Jess abruptly cut herself off.

"Listen, David. You go off to bed. You can drink in your room. Just leave me be for a while. I'll take a shower and then join you, okay? I'm not feeling well right now." The frown on his face deepened at her words. His green eyes went towards the apple he had tossed to him mere seconds ago as it rolled towards him. It stopped as it hit his left arm that was resting on the table. He looked back up at her. "Jess--" "Jesus Christ. I make the rules around here. Go. Leave, for fuck's sake." David was taken aback by her sudden outburst. He stared at her with a surprised look on his face before hardening it into a defiant one. "Fine, Boss," he finally said with a tone as devoid of emotion as her face before standing up from the stool. David took his glass and downed the rest of its contents in one swig before walking over to the sink and placing it down. He wasn't in the mood for any further drinking, not any more at least.

With the his own apple still in hand, David was about to leave when he paused at the doorway.
"Sorry. I just--" He sighed. "If you need me, you know where to find me." David went back to the living room and collected his bags from the sofa he dumped them on earlier, thankful that they were still there, before heading back upstairs and entering the room assigned to him.

tumblr_static_tumblr_static_1c9wxei1zlusw4cs8occgc8cc_640.png

He's acting strange, Jess decided.

The girl stood up, stepping carefully so she wouldn't slip. The girl left a trail of red footprints going up the stairs and into the bathroom. She passed Dakota, who was sleeping soundly on the couch.

Jess got into the shower and started the water, peeling off her dress after a moment. She put her soaked clothes outside of the shower, and stood under the water for a few more seconds, using shampoo and conditioner quickly but thoroughly. Once she washed out all the soap, she stepped out, kicking the wet dress out of her way as she grabbed a towel, wrapping herself up.

Not wanting to look into the mirror, she left the bathroom and opened up each room she knew wasn't occupied, finding David. She just looked at him for a few moments, before stepping in and closing the door.

Sorry, she thought over and over. But she couldn't say it now.

First thing he did upon entering was to dump his stuff on the armchair in the room. Next order of business, was to get a bit more comfortable. David kicked off his shoes and set them by the foot of the armchair that was occupied by his bags. He then removed his blazer and hung it on the armchair's back before digging out a light grey long sleeved shirt from his duffel bag and changed into it. Now what? he thought to himself as he folded the button down he had just been wearing moments ago and placing them into a laundry bag that had been buried at the very bottom of his duffel bag--it was one of the things that he never did take out of the bag. David stuffed the laundry bag and it's single content back into the duffel bag, why? Just in case they needed to make another sudden escape. He didn't want to be unprepared like earlier. Besides, where else was he supposed to put it? It wasn't like they were going to stay there forever, it was more like a hotel really--a hotel which he knows not when he'll be checking out of. He'll just have to ask Jess about it later on... along with several other things.

He sighed as he recalled the brief encounter with their leader just moments ago. Just as he thought about this, the door to the room opened and there stood on the other side was the very person he was thinking of.
Speak of the devil. "Jess," he nodded at her in acknowledgement of her presence as he watched Jess enter the room and closed the door behind her. David thought she was going to say something, wasn't that she was here? But she said nothing and merely looked at him. He stared back, his green eyes meeting hers. It didn't seem like she was going to talk anytime soon, so he urged her on and asked, "What's wrong, Jess? Is there something you needed from me?"

5d5d67437b331ab73b409d498beaf69b.jpg

Finding it difficulty forcing out words, she didn't talk, instead shaking her head. Before she had told him that she would be up to join him, so he shouldn't have been surprised, really.

The girl glanced at the bed and headed toward it, lying down carefully and slowly blinking, her mind blank of any important thoughts. Maybe she would sleep; That would make it better. She kept her thighs carefully hidden under the towel, knowing that it would generally be frowned upon. Such an injury was only caused by oneself. Rolling over onto her back, she stayed by the side where the bed met the wall, in a way offering comfort at being unable to move and possibly fall, a difficult concept that she thought everyone felt. Similar to being carried by someone you trusted. There wasn't much room, but it felt safe.

She looked back up at David, her gaze lazy, and begging him not to talk, possibly disturbing the sense of peace she'd been gifted with. Closing her eyes once more, she tried to sleep, even if it wasn't refreshing. In the time she was asleep, she could do nothing.

She could just do nothing.

The last few hours had been overwhelming and confusing, and now she had the opportunity to not do one damned thing until morning.
