Fantasy A Guild of Their Own

Morgan looked confused. "It faded?" His eyebrow raised, deep in thought. It took him a few moments before it clicked. "Someone was using some kind of illusion magic, I believe. Although, that kind of thing isn't common." He thought a bit more, his face kind of scrunched up as he focused. "Well, at least you didn't listen to it. Who knows what would have happened then."

"I'm glad you're not too disoriented." Adelia smiled at Carlos, releasing her grip on both Carlos and Allen. She then looked in the direction that Carlos was pointing. "That's the Phoenix Guild hall. They're basically the law round here." She smiled half-heartedly. "Where do you want to go?" She asked, turning to face him.

"Still using those dramatic entrances I see, Brutus." Elder Leopold sighed, turning to face his old protege. "As for beloved, that was the past. You changed after the stunt you pulled that resulted in your banishment. What are you doing here?" Leopold wasn't exactly pleased to see the man before him, wishing he'd have stayed banished.

Kemelia nodded in agreement. "Yeah..." She looked down at her dragon. It looked up at her with worried eyes as if it knew what they were talking about. "Why would someone want my dragon though? Who would want my dragon and go through the trouble of using magic?"

"I've an idea who would..." Morgan admitted, after a few moments thought. He hardly remembered what had happened, but he still remembered. "Most people would want to kill it but not even the Phoenix Guild would use magic to try and persuade you to leave. Honestly, very little magic gets past our wards. Elder Leopold made sure of it." It was that moment that Morgan knew exactly who had done that. Only a tamer could have, as only the tamer's know how to bypass the wards against magic. Or an ex-tamer.

Kemelia was shaken by what Morgan had said. If magic wasn't supposed to get through by outsiders, then that would mean only someone who was part of the group had sent her that message. And the way Morgan looked like showed he didn't like who it was. She moved her arm some to make sure her dagger was where it was supposed to be before asking "What should we do?"

"Dagger wouldn't be all that useful against who I think it is. Anywho, we should report it to Elder Leopold." Morgan looked up at Kemelia, having considered reaching for his own dagger to defend her. Looking around, he tried to locate the Elder's office. He hadn't been to it before, so hadn't a clue where it was set up.

"Okay, good to know." she said quietly. At least she knew shed need a sword or something better than a dagger. "Should we talk with Elder Leopold then?"

"I'm not entirely sure where Elder Leopold's office is... I've not been to it before." Morgan admitted, head down in shame. He wanted to help, but instead he had instilled fear and disappointed the girl. Great.... I'm useless.

Morgan looked upset, and Kemelia immediately felt bad. None of this was anyone's fault. She took the egg and ended up dragging the trouble into this group. She wasn't about to let anyone get hurt or be guilty like this about her own mistake. She took a deep breath and put on a brave smile. "It's alright. You'll figure something out! You've helped me so far, right?"

"Phoenix Guild?" Carlos looked towards the town, 'that name sounds so familiar', Carlos was trying to recall the name. He looked back to Adelia to address her question, "well I am kinda hungry. Know any good restaurants or Inns with decent food and drink?"

Morgan instantly knew what Kemelia was trying to do and smiled at her. "You don't have to try and make me feel better. But thank you." He stopped to think. Now where have I seen people walk towards when they want to visit Elder Leopold? He kept thinking for a moment, his face scrunched slightly once more. "This way, I think." Morgan spoke, an uncertain air about him. He wasn't entirely sure he was right, but it didn't hurt to try.

"There's this quaint little Inn over the way. I used to stay there when I wanted to get away from the forest for a few days." Adelia smiled over at Carlos. From what she could remember, it's food was pretty good. The drink was too. "It's called Dragon's Breath. I'm not sure why, but I like it. Follow me." She started to lead the way towards the inn. It was on the other side of the town, but it meant she could gather groceries and anything they needed on her way back through the town to her home.

Kemelia's smile brightened a little in hearing that it worked. She always had the want to make others feel better and a little happier no matter the situation. Just like now, she briefly forgot about the situation and let herself be brighter, and a little more brave for Morgan's sake.

"Lead the way!" She said.

She decided it'd be best to take her dragon with her, just in case.

A solid and repeated thunk echoed through the forest, a sound produced by arrows hitting a tree. Dest was simply practicing his archery to pass time as he waited.

Morgan smiled at her, heading in the direction he thought it was. Upon coming to a door, he signalled for Kemelia to halt. He put his ear to the door, wishing Adelia was there. She'd have been able to eavesdrop for us. He sighed quietly, trying to hear what was being said. The Elder wasn't alone, that was for sure. "We should come back later. Elder Leopold is not alone." Morgan spoke quietly.

Kemelia's face dropped. "Really? Do you know who?" She asked quietly. She'd hoped they'd be able to get this over with so that nothing bad happened. And it possibly might if not taken care of fast enough. "Do you know what they're talking about?"

"You know I was right." Brutus said, his smile disappeared. "They screamed, Mauros. THEY.SCREAMED."

The look on Brutus' face change from 0 to 100 real quick. "I should have killed those lying sacks of shit you called 'friends' too, and I don't give a fuck if I could have died. "

Brutus sat down on a chair, his hand covered his face. He let out a sigh, then pulled out his pipe, and started smoking.

"I'm sorry, didn't mean to be an ass." He said, let out some smoke. "I know about the new girl and her dragon. Did you see the dragon?"

Within the recesses of the Phoenix guild hall, there sits a man who is surrounded by all forms of furled scrolls and aged parchment. He very delicately drapes a saturated quill pen over a mostly empty page. The words which are completed upon the document are "The subject of this sudden gathering is to discuss the theft of our sacred relic at the hands of the newly discovered witch." This exact series of words could be seen on the partially rolled papers which surrounded the man in the room and the other letters hidden by the page corners implied a much greater length of detail that was obscured. These scrolls were the products of days of duplication work and they were being carefully wrapped as most documents were when being prepared for transportation.

The scribe tasked with duplicating the original meeting's dialogue was Emmerod. He was immersed in carefully constructing each character when his focus was broken by a rapping on the chamber door. For the fear that his visitor might be a sanctioned member of the guild, Emmerod set his tools aside and answered the door with expedience. To his slight relief, the visitor was a courier and fellow servant. They exchanged a brief greeting and Emmerod was given a letter from his patron head master.

Once privacy was restored to the room, he peeled the letter away and quickly parsed the message. The message was an order of collection, meaning that Emmerod would need to go into town and gather taxes from the local people. This letter was expected by Emmerod, but he was surprised by the second order that was concealed behind the first. The order was a more direct set of instructions which requested that Emmerod dedicate his resources towards discovering the location of the witch and reporting back to the guild. As he read the reward for succeeding in this task, his eyes lifted from the letter and peered through the small window of his room. At once, he grabbed his leather satchel and made his way out of the guild hall with the intent of quickly finishing his collection work.

Murmurs around the town and rumors spread like wildfire..... The Villages.... The towns..... The kingdoms.... They all speak of one same thing: HE is coming..... Now when most people say HE, HIM, HIS and other abbreviations, they usually refer to the famed golden bounty hunter. They named it HIM since that's the only thing known about him by anyone and that is that he is male. He has no records, no relatives, no friends.... Nothing, he is a phantom in the wind, a passerby in the crowd, a needle in a haystack..... A ghost in the dark, invisible. People say when somebody gets hunted by HIM, he is already dead. He is a bounty hunter which never shows remorse nor pain nor mercy, none have ever escaped the grasps of his blade and even if they did, they wouldnt live long enough to tell the tale... The rumors is that the witch child was now targeted by HIM, a request from the king. It would take only months.... No, weeks.... No, days..... No, only a mere few hours for him to be able to track down the girl, and eliminate her.... He was an excellent tracker, seeing signs other couldnt, reading tracks none could read and seeing things none could see, he was close to the girl.... And whatever they are doing they better be ready because HE is coming....

Carlos followed Adelia closely as she lead him through town. He looked around nervously, 'So many people.'  Carlos has never been completely comfortable in large crowds, but he was able to relax somehow with Adelia close by. "So uh, Adelia? what kinda things do you like to do?" Carlos grinned hoping to start a conversation.

Adelia smiled over at Carlos, somewhat sensing his lack of comfort in the situation. "Mostly make music. Without my sonokinesis, that is. Playing cello is a lot of fun." She reached behind her to grab Carlos' hand, so she could keep him close by as she lead them through the town to the Dragon's Breath inn. Part of her felt very conscious and timid when it came to grabbing his hand, not being used to contact with other people. Sure, she'd shared a hug or two with Morgan but she grew up with him and he was practically her brother. Carlos, on the other hand, was a complete stranger. "I like to read as well. I learn a lot by reading." She tried to find some alley ways to get them out of the crowd. Eventually, she found one. It was dark, and empty with the exception of a couple of people. One of them could have been a guild member, but her being there wouldn't arouse suspicion. In the alleyway, she released Carlos' hand, a slight blush still on her face.

Morgan pressed his ear to the door once more. "I can't tell. Elder Leopold has enchanted his office so that none can be overheard. It allows us to talk to him in private." He looked apologetic, looking at the disappointed Kemelia. He thought to himself for a moment. Perhaps I should find somewhere to keep her and her dragon safe for a while... Nobody would suspect her of being in the infirmary, right? That was it. That was the solution. Morgan's quarters were inside of the infirmary, through a door. It allowed him to keep a close eye on his patients, and also gave him some privacy. "I can keep both of you safe, for a while. Here, come with me."

Leopold's eyes narrowed at the man. He knew what he was saying to be true. After what had happened, Leopold had punished each of the elder's that were responsible for the damage. They had been sentenced to death, as nobody survives leaving the Tamers. Having always been a man of enforcing the rules he had set, Leopold remained with the guilt of having let Brutus escape the punishment he should have received. "I heard the screams, Brutus. All of them. I can't forget the sounds. They haunt me every waking moment, and manifest themselves in my subconscious. I've seen many horrors, Brutus, but I've never heard such fear, pain, and sorrow as I did on that day. You may have thought you saved us, but they were babies. They had yet to be tamed and have their true nature revealed. On that day, you committed a great wrong which I have not forgiven. The Elder's responsible for the original anguish of those poor souls no longer walk this earth. They received the punishment you also should have."  Leopold stopped speaking for a minute, breathing to calm himself. He couldn't let his anger cloud his judgement. If that were to happen, he would be usurped and another would take his place at the head of the community. That was something he could not risk happening. There were few left that Leopold trusted, and the only ones he truly trusted were the ones he raised as his own. Having calmed once more, Leopold spoke. "I have seen the dragon yes. It's in excellent health and absolutely beautiful. I believe it to have a bond with the girl. It will not do any harm, Brutus. If it gets out of hand, our small community is more than enough to either get it under control or do what is required."

Carlos felt more at ease being away from the crowded streets, "I love music myself," He looked to her with a prideful face. "I may not be able to play an instrument to save my life but I can carry a tune very well." Carlos got an idea at her interest in reading as well and grabbed his book from his bag, " although I don't have much reading material," he turn it over to reveal a book with a dragon symbol on the cover, "I enjoy reading this book. I can't find an Arthor for it but it gives a nice light to the dragons of myth. I recived it from my mother long before I left my home, and it tells tales of dragons that helped humankind opposed to all the rest that tell of them being horrifying monsters." Carlos held a firm grip on it as not to drop and damage it.

"That's such an interesting book!" Adelia grinned, not even giving a slight hint that she knows dragons still exist, as well as her being able to tame them. "Perhaps those stories weren't just stories? Maybe that's really what dragons were like? That's what I want to believe, anyway." She shrugged, getting all excited with the conversation. Somehow she managed to keep her 'theories' in the past tense. It was a miracle she wasn't blabbing, with how excited she was getting. "As for music, perhaps I could teach you to play?" Adelia spent a while looking at her feet, not noticing those that were in the alleyway already suddenly step into her path. She had been a little flustered before, and upon bumping into the man, instantly looked up. "I am so sorry sir, I didn't mean to walk into you. I'm so clumsy, I apologise a thousand times over." The man didn't look like he was going to forgive her, or move. It seemed as though he wanted to cause trouble. "I really do apologise sir, I did not intend to cause any conflict. I merely wish to traverse this route with my friend here." Adelia had a feeling that no amount of reasoning would work with this ruffian. She was prepared to stand up for herself if necessary, and protect both herself and Carlos.

Carlos sinced a tention brew with the man and place a hand in his shoulder, "Sir can I ask a question?" The man gave a devilish glare. Carlos summoned his magic and made it so light passed through the mans trousers rendering them invisible. Making it so that he appeared pants-less"Do you think it's a good idea to be starting conflicts with pretty women without your pants on?"

Adelia swiftly covered her eyes to protect her innocence. She managed to contain her giggles inside of herself, turning her head away. "If you don't mind sir, we'll be going now." She reached around to find Carlos, as though to use him to get around the half nude man. She found his hand swiftly, and tried to find her way around him. Instead, she walked into the man again and let out a quiet shriek. Adelia felt her cheeks flush when she realised that Carlos had called her pretty. That was something she'd never been called before.

"O-Ok." Kemelia said quietly. She felt her fear come back as she followed Morgan. She couldn't help but notice something odd around the Elder's quarters. Something just seemed to shift and it made her uncomfortable. Her dragon could sense her fear, and started to try to hide itself in her arms.

And for the second time that day she thought What am I going to do...?

The man was red with embarrassment and anger. Carlos didn't know what to do, "Sir this seems to be just a bad misunderstanding. If we can just get past you, my friend and I will be on our way and it be like none of this ever happened." Carlos forced a smile and hoped the ill tempered heathen would comply, but the Brute didn't budge. Carlos didn't want to do anything drastic but it seemed like it was about to be a problem. 'This ally is too narrow for breaker, and speed won't help.' Carlos sighed, "ok buddy. I don't have time for thi..." The man step forward and punched Carlos in the face causing him to step backwards into Adelia.
