A thought: If she is going to come to the game as a Priestess of Luna, she would most likely be an older Exalt, not having Exalted during the trip to Gwynnin.

It can be done that she Exalted during the trip, but it was a thought that she would have been an Exalt for a while, tending to the shrine for Luna as a guardian of the sacred flame that is kept lit.

Of course, much of this is still in the very vague planning stage.

Lunars have a Background called Solar Bond. Depending on how many points the Lunar puts into the Background, they earn extra dice when working to further the plans and motivations of their Solar. This also shows the strength of the bond. The more dots in it, the harder it is for the Lunar to act against the desires of the Solar.

Note that this is only in effect for that one Solar. The Lunar can tell any other Solar to stick it up their ass and walk away from them.

Lol that would be pretty funny to see happen. When I next get ahold of her, I'll ask her if she would be interested.

Cool. I can help out with making a character. Just let me know what the plan is.

Got some questions for you as King!

You are putting Ragnar in charge of military stuff. So I would like to know:

1. if you would like him to prioritize offense to strike outwards or defense of the city.

2. What is the state of the city walls?

3. What is the size of military force in Gwynnin that I will be overseeing and what is their status?

4. How many resources are available for me to apply to increasing military power? Will i have access to builders and craftsmen?

5. Is there a map of the region, or a description of what is around us?

6. Ragnar will swear his loyalty 5o the King and Queen, thus will be adding such an intimacy to reflect that. As such, his followers will be expected to do the same. Many of them were common folk, trappers and huntsman and carpenters and weavers and the like, and Ragnar would try to have then work for the city with the King and Queens permission. Ragnar would see to put they they repay the city in kind for their generosity. They should also be loyal enough with the cult status that Ragnar could also direct them to areas of the cities needs.

7. Is there enough arms and armor to go around, and if so, of what quality and what kind? Knowing this will let Ragnar know the areas if training and drills he should focus on.

I have three major military operations on my list for the skip.

1. We will locate and scout the nearest orichalcum lode. The occupiers will eventually be annihilated and or taken prisoner to make way for artificing projects.

2. We will need to clear a stable supply line to our new territory, Rathess. This is liable to require significant resources to assimilate territory by diplomacy and military superiority.

3. We will need to garrison forces in Rathess and train the local warriors for our expedition to clear out the subterranean areas.

While we prepare, I will need Ragnar to train and drill our existing troops. Other infrastructure projects are on my list that relate to defense.

Also, I dont have details on numbers and disposition handy. I don't recall if Sherwood Sherwood has given us those details or not.

I keep city maps in the empire section of my sheet.

As for Rathess, Sirocco will volunteer to get the Dragon Kings organized and will, eventually, invest in Lunar War. At which time, i will likely send our ST some homebrew Lunar War charms, to see if he approves.

D. Rex D. Rex If your friend needs help building her character, I'd be more than happy to help her. I have several years of experience in Exalted, and Lunars are a favorite, even if they are somewhat harder to play, mostly because of the disparity in power, since their charms cost much more than Solar Charms. the upside is that some of their Charms can be broader in scope. For example, because they are Attribute-based, they can only add less dice on their Excellency, but it can be applied to any roll with that Attribute. So, I have a Dexterity Excellency that I can use on any Dexterity roll, no matter what Ability. But a Solar with Socialize can only use it for Socialize, and not for any of the 24 other Abilities.

Gotcha. With all that on mind, I can have Ragnar run the troops through the ringer and get them up to par with the Kings expectations.

I shall do as thus.

Physical Training. Ragnar will have groups go out between drills to buff them up and drill then on Survival. This would entail cutting down trees or helping to start on some of the trade routes close by, or to help the city in general. This will be good physical labor to increase strength and stamina, and get them used to doing work and traveling in armor. During this time, they will all learn how to hunt and fend for themselves in the wild to help ease their reliance on constant supply trains. Resources such as stone and wood will be given to the city for infrastructure projects and potential projects like defense and siege weapons. They will also be more prepared to help clear the routes when the time comes.

Given the lack of reliable resources, a lot of drills will involve the spear and other polearms. They are easy to make and require little metal. They are also the staple of many armies and the easiest weapon to learn and master. Shields will be the next focus. Once Smith's are able to provide better weapons, we can move focus to sword, axe, and mace training.

Formation drills will focus on getting the troops used to guerilla tactics, taking further advantage of survival training. Until we have larger forces, this will help us against larger forces we come up against.

Ragnar is not an archer, and archers are the bread and butter of many armies. As such, Ragnar will probably ask Heaven to help I'm this task.

If this is satisfactory, then I shall put it into effect.

I have to say that Lunars are my favorite kind of Exalt, too. I have even joined the 3e Kickstarter program for the Lunar book coming out next year, and I'm really looking forward to that.

And the more I read, the more fun they are starting to look! Next exalted game I play, I want to try and make one.

Next purchases will be:
Gaining and increasing War.
rereading the rules on mass combat. and buy Flawless (Attribute) Focus, so I can add 3 War specialties in a relevant Attribute.
Start buying Lunar War charms.

Also, see what I need to get the base Lunar Territory Charm, and Claim Rathess as a Territory.

I have never given out any solid numbers on the population of Gwynnin or the numbers of troops that the city can field. Here are some numbers for you.

Gwynnin has a total population of 15,000 people, and the numbers are growing.

The city has a small fighting force of 150 soldiers and city watchmen that have a 3 dot rating in a combat ability. There is another 50 in reserve that have a 1 to 2 dot rating in a combat ability.

By this time, there are a total of eight Dragon Blooded in the city, and besides Rogosh and the players, there is one other Lunar in the city. I will add the names and castes of the various Exalted in the Lore tab soon.

In the Lunar book, there is a great pic of a spider dangling down on its web that shifts into a human form. I love it.

Would that include the portion that would want to join from Ragnars followers? And would any of the dragon blooded be in the military? Cause if so, Ragnar would probably run them extra hard. He doesn't like Dragon Blooded much, I dont think.

I'm definitely gonna have to Hunt that down. I've been flipping through the pdf. And only got so far as the moon castes.

Ragnar would also be training the reserve and making sure they are up to the same ability as the main forces.

Don't forget when building a Lunar character that there is a difference in Charms and the Shapeshifitng Knacks. You have to pick the right Knacks to be able to shift into smaller or large forms, to be able to take on human forms, change gender, and finally take on Fae or Demon/Elemental forms.

Bah... a TRUE WARRIOR gets Terrifying Ogre Enhancement... (which is part of what i need to work towards as well) A 12-foot War Form is an awe-inspiring image. Especially when it can hide, with an entire army, and spring a surprise attack on an enemy army.
