Getting the two Hardy keyword Charms would be a good thing to get those health levels. In my humble opinion, that is.

Oh definitely. The only real question is which path in bureaucracy I start down first.

Hm... I think I'll go defensive. I'll be more concerned about keeping our society in peak shape rather than starting trade wars just yet. I'd like to think our circle has a good handle on resolving bad attitude with bared knuckles and steel.

I went ahead and bit the Essence 5 bullet, along with Keen Sight Technique. My new eyes work even better now!

I just have to recalculate my DV's, since everything is going to be different with the increased Essence.

It's tough to know when the right time to bump essence is. I think now that I've finally covered most of my basic charm goals, it can be next on my list.

I need some attack charms.

Going with:
Increasing Strength Exercise (to buff up for battle)

Heaven Thunder Hammer (a classic and only attack charm this time)

Second Impact Flourish
Dome Shattering Smite
Hellraiser's Instinct
(Permenant upgrades, Because I'm only getting one attack this time, I'm gonna do it REALLY well)

I won't be satisfied until Ragnars fists are classified as siege weapons.

Actually. I changed my mind.

I will go with an Essence increase. Since unsure when the next lump sum of xp will come, and I think he did well without attack charms as is.

It will give me the extra motes I need for using charms in battle while all buffs are active, as well as some other nice perks. And it means I can increase Ragnars strength to 7, eventually!

I've already spent some of the exp on getting Summoning the Loyal Steel, just so that Annika can smuggle her Daiklaves past guards, and stuff like that. I also want her to learn High Realm and Low Realm, so that she can talk to our Dragon-blooded prisoners more easily, and blend in among Realm people for when we inevitably go to war with the Scarlet Empire.

Beyond that, I'm not too sure what Charms and abilities would best suit her role as the circle's spymaster, or the things Aredin and Darian would want her to learn and develop. I'm thinking:
  • Flawlessly Impenetrable Disguise and Perfect Mirror for if she ever needs to disguise herself.
  • Judge's Ear Technique, Irresistible Questioning Technique, Courtier's Eye Technique and Know the Soul's Price when dealing with other people.
  • The Spies background (Scroll of Heroes, pg 33) for general sources of information (Whether I get this one will depend on how long the timeskip will be.)
  • The Contact background for the Cult of the Illuminated, or perhaps an Allies background for one of its leaders. It just makes sense, seeing as they're a group dedicated to helping Solars and we know Aysik.
Anything out of that you'd want me to prioritize? Any other suggestions?

Hmm, that reminds my of languages. I hadn't really thought about it much. Ragnar speaks two. Skytongue and Low Realm. I hadn't yet cross referenced the languages to see if he could even communicate.

jaydude jaydude this is exceedingly powerful, so it may require review from Sherwood Sherwood , but...

See Oadenol's Codex (p.106/107)

As for charms, your assessment is right on the mark. All of those would definitely be great to have access to.

Additionally, if you need more help in stalking, I'd take a look at charms like Monkey Leap Technique and Graceful Crane Stance for hopping up battlements, towers, etc.

Edit: I'm gonna drop the Bureau charms for post E5. I can't really take it now, cause the lack of soak/health is too high a risk without using really obnoxious combat tactics. so 16xp until E5, then I'll worry about fine-tuning bureaucratic efficiency. Stunts, Excellencies, and Retainers will have to carry that load for now.

Thanks for the feedback, Rykon Rykon . I was largely wondering which of those Charms I should get first, and what the Circle's next course of action is going to be. Is Aredin still going to want to take Chaing-Dav?

Also, can I assume Aredin would be willing to be Annika's tutor in High Realm?

Psychie Psychie made a very good case for doing so. We'd want to assimilate the Vermillion Legion ASAP since the Exalts among them would be a huge help to our cause.

Even the territory itself is critical for opening a river passage from Gwynnin to Rathess. So, I can't think of a good reason to push it off for too long.

As for charm priority, how about Flawlessly Impenetrable Disguise, Judge's Ear Technique, Monkey Leap Technique, then background dot purchases if necessary. This would be a gradual transition into mastery story wise and give you really potent options to overcome a larger variety of obstacles.

Edit: Aredin certainly wouldn't mind teaching languages.

You're the veteran.

Rykon Rykon If you need someone to guard for you, you just so happen to have gotten a new potential retainer with more than enough soak to share.

I would like to discuss what the Lord and Lady would like of him, lol after of course you help Jaydude and get your xp sorted to your pleasure.

I tend to play him very rash and impulsive when it comes to danger. Given the AoE we just saw from our friend, the master of the syle "Charcoal March of Spiders", if I keep putting it off, I'll be put in the ground. That said, I should've seen the writing on the wall and just popped the perfect dodges. I've also made a big deal in the story so far about re-learning Hastening Night's End. So I can't really afford to drop any of those three given what the build-up has been thus far.

For you...

Defense:
You need a perfect defense in the event we get hit with something absurdly powerful, like a Third Circle Demon or Colossus Warstrider. Adamant Skin Technique seems to suit your style of play with this character.

Offense:
I'd recommend prioritizing Orichalcum Fists of Battle before anything else. having base 35 damage before other charms is nothing to scoff at. Another milestone would be Thunderbolt Attack Prana if you're looking to deal overwhelmingly large amounts of damage. It's gonna be a long while before our characters age enough for E6 and you can snag that epic counter throw. Prior to E6/7 though, I think there's a charm(s) let you deal massive damage to structures, if punching down an entire castle sounds like your thing. (and let's be honest, of course it does.) IIRC it's one of the earlier Solar Hero charms and you may already have it.

Utility:
Long-term stuff here. I think you are limited in what traits you can train with soldiers by what you currently know. So if you were wanting to train phalanx legions or archer units you would need dots in Melee and Archery. On the flip side though, you can already train crack martial artist militias the likes of which even the Swiss would envy. So take that for what it's worth. Also, either Dexterity or the merit that lets you use your Strength in your attack/accuracy pool instead of Dex.

Lol I meant narratively speaking.

But those are indeed words I intend to follow!

Which book is thunderbolt attack prana in. I could swear I have seen it.

And yes, some of those I was already planning on getting, like the charm that breaks things bigly. Sledgehammer fist punch is the early one, I have that one. But ink monkies has some bigger versions. Hellraiser instinct is a permanent upgrade that basically uses heaven thunder hammer or crashing wave throw to turn an opponent into a flying amplified sledgehammer fist punch. There is also a charm that involves me ragdolling a large opponent [even colossal ones] over my head and shaking them to bits. That sounds fun.

And as for adamant skin! That is one of the main reason I wanted essence 5. So I could get at least one perfect defense. Once i raise my resistance by two, i can get that charm.

As for some utilities, I am definitely going to have to hunt down that merit. If I can afford any more.

And yeah, he could probably train up some pretty vicious guerilla fighters. Right now, regarding war, tactics and plans would be more his thing. Becoming a worthy general, and to be able to train his troops is something that is worth working towards as he tries to better himself. Could use it as a narrative focus during downtime, him trying to improve himself, so that he can improve his troops. He is not a general yet, but has the potential to be one.

For narrative duties, it would mostly be training forces like the gwynnin military and Dragon Kings of Rathess. At some point I would like to have access to someone with Dragon Soul Enlightening method from scroll of fallen races too, but that seems like a distant future.

Thunderbolt Attack Prana is in athletics in the core book.

I could try to ask Sherwood Sherwood If I could make a few tweaks to my CS now that I understand the system a but better.

For example, I had put some in throw, thinking I would that to throw people. But I learn I can do that with grapple and MA stuff and Throw applied to weapons.

I might ask if I could move those points to melee, or split the points between. Ragnar does KNOW how to wield melee weapons, he just chooses to use his fists since his exaltation.

That is a reasonable request. Go ahead and make the tweaks you wish to.

Let me try and figure out the numbers of points I would have to start this friend off at, and take a look at the future of the game to see if I can fit one more in.
