Futuristic The Sun's Rest

Raven nodded, but she never stopped holding one hand against the cut.

She looked at the map, curious.

Edward puffed out his cheeks and joined them in looking at the map. "Exciting, huh? Did you guys run into one? Heard some sounds of struggle." He noticed Raven's cut. He looked at her. "Are you okay? Looks like one got you there."

Raven's temper flared a little, but she took a deep breathe. She nodded to both their questions. Seeing as she didn't have the paper at the moment, she didn't say-write anything else.

After a moment when she made sure everyone was looking down at the map, she slunk back a little, out of the beam of the flashlight(he is using one, right?) and pulled her shirt sleeve up, looking worried herself. It didn't feel very nice at all, and it was throbbing and began to hurt more when she pulled up her sleeve. She hastily pulled down her sleeve and stepped back to look at the map. She'd have to take a closer look at it later in the light.

Eli glanced the map over hurridley, within a moment, he had a course laid out, "Two blocks that way... Five that way... Improvised safe house... Aye... That one ought to work..." He glanced to Edward, "Exciting... More like terrifying, I don't know about you, but I never want to see those creatures in my life, I've tussled with them before..." He shudders, "Was very bad..." He looks to Raven after a moment, and sighs, "Shoulda killed the damn thing..." He folded the map up and stuffed it into his pants pocket, motioning, "This way, I got a safe house... bout a mile away, if we run, we can be there in six, seven minutes or so..." He looks to Raven, "Ye up for a run? Or do you think that's poisoned? Because if tis' I'm carryin' ya. A mile with a passenger aint a strain on this old dog Lass, and I'd rather have ye alive, one way or another."

Eli sighed and nodded in resignation, He muttered, "Alright then..." He waved to them, "From here on, not a word until we reach the safe house, Not even if ye fall behind, Raven, Take my direct back, watch ahead of me, I'm gettin' old and I miss things every once in a while, if ya see anything..." He grinned slightly, "Give this old man a shout. You two," He looked to Edward and Ashley, "Take my flanks, stay close if any of them manage to catch up to us, I need to be able to take them out." He pulled his axe off of his back, and hefted it, nodding to the nearest alleyway, He ran down it at a steady pace, at least for him, He could cover a mile in five minutes, four if he pushed it, -I'm getting old...- He thought to himself. -Damn Shame...-

Edward nodded to the man's orders and began to follow him. "Come on, Ashley." Ed was a bit envious of Eli's control, but he knew it was best for the group. That was what mattered.

Eli ran, like death was on his heels, he'd listen behind him, if he heard his companions breathing, or footsteps too far behind him, he'd slow slightly, but he knew, if he didn't set a fast pace, they would die. He knew their lives depended on reaching the safe-house. With a resigned inward sigh, he thought to himself, -Shame... I was just starting to get used to walking the streets.- After the first two blocks, he jumped onto the hood of a car, turning to the others he said, "Up, Get on the hood, like your life depends on it, run over, try to stay on the edges, don't leave footprints!" He moved rapidly, from the hood of one car, to the roof, over, and then to the tailgate, and then again, onto the hood, his boots straddling the frame rail's of the vehicle, reducing his weight load on the softer sheet metal that made up the body, "We'll throw them off our scent for a while, come on, first block like this, then we run tight against the buildings, right in the shadows, so even if we leave tracks, they'll lose them!"

Ashley quickly followed. This was like an game of the floor is lava, jumping from car to car actually prove to be a lot more taxing than she realized it would be, but since it was to throw those things off of their trail she sucked it up and continued to followed diligently. "This isn't as easy as you make it appear, Pops." She was keeping a good pace and tried to not be in dead last...she had seen enough horror movies to know what happens to you when you fall behind

(Continuing on...)

After another few blocks, Eli's muscles were screaming at him, He was beginning to tire, his joints were tiring, and he felt in need of a very very long and uninterrupted sleep. He was gasping for breath when he saw the safe-house ahead, it was a manhole, and he knew it had a locking chain beneath it. A long time ago it had a key at the top to unlock the mechanism that held the chain in place at the bottom, allowing the cover to be removed, now, the slot for the key was crammed full of debris and no longer functioned, so the chain was hooked on with a service hook, allowing someone to climb in, and hook it, effectively locking themselves in. Eli sighed with relief, and put on an extra burst of speed, slowing to a stop when he reached it, he placed the pointed butt of his axe against the man hole covers seam and tapped it, popping it loose, he pointed down the hole, "Alright Alice, into Wonderland we go! Quick like bunny!" He loved the pun but had no time to follow it up, He looked to Raven, Ashley and Edward, if they had arrived, saying, "There's a crank generator at the bottom couple O turns and it lasts about a half hour, someone had this place ready for a good long stay, but they never finished with the provisions, civil engineer I'd guess. Turn the handle and it'll turn on the lights." He pulled his flashlight out, and clicked it on, the powerful beam illuminated the shaft, "Ladders sturdy and no one's moved the cover since I was last here, the markings are still the same, head down and see whats to be seen." He pulled out a second flashlight, this one like a lantern, a piece of high tensile cord attached to it's handle, he offered it between the group "Tie it to your waist, one way or another, and lead the way, Whoever going first. I'll close the hole up and lock the door once your all down." Despite his own heavy breathing, he could still hear noises in the distance, he shivered, muttering, "Looks like our diversion's just making them spread out, we've got about two, maybe three minutes before they make us..." His face was carved from stone at that moment, his axe held in his hands defiantly, prepared to die for his new companions.

Raven quickly shoved (not literally!) them down the hole, guarding the back of the group. After they were all down, she was about to tie the rope around her own waist, but she heard something... and a dark shape lunged at her.

She ducked into the hole, swinging the cover shut. She looked at Eli, afraid to let go of the handle (im going to assume there is a handle on this inside of the cover), seeing as she was trying to take up as little room as possible. So she was pretty much hanging from the handle. But good news! She was light enough that it didn't break.

Oh, and not to mention that there was a zombie trying to get in.

She looked at Eli once again, veeeeeeery worried.

Ashley was at the bottom of the hole now and went to find the mechanism that Eli had talked about, and upon reaching it she turned the handle as instructed and waited with baited breath till the lights flickered a few times before staying on. She was overjoyed at the sign of some light but that was quickly interrupted as she realized that she didn't see Raven standing down with them.

((Phenix? You still with us? Waiting for you to post man. I see you on here and there but not ever posting.))
Eli spun, and turned on the attack, his axe only met pavement where it should have been, and he got knocked over a moment later, He scrambled to his feet, his kukiri in his hand, he mutters, "Fast..." he glanced around, and it was nowhere to be seen, but he could still "feel" it there, still sensed it's presence. Without hesitation, he rolled, grabbed his axe, and then ran over to the hole, dropping his axe into a slot for tools beside the access hatch, he sheathed his kukiri and then dropped in beside the girl, his left hand held him by some of the structural bits of the manhole's tube, and his right had pulled the manhole cover over them, with the light from the lantern about Raven's waist, he grasped the hook, and slid it into it's holding loop, right as the manhole began to lift again, the chain held fast and he let out a sigh of relief. Close quarters as they were, he whispered to Raven, "Thank ye Lass, Didn't expect one to catch up with us so soon... you've no idea how big a help your being." Someone with her survival skills could be on her own, alone, He knew, but she'd gone with the group, and for that, he was immensely grateful, she had survived that long tailing him, if she'd found the food cache before they knew of her, he'd have never seen her face, he realized. Now the big man nodded to her, "Ladies first lass, I'll be down in a moment."

Raven nodded and quickly climbed down the ladder. She landed with a quiet 'thump' and rolled to a stop.

She frowned at her arm as it began to ache slightly more.

"Well that ain't good." She whispered to herself, probing the wound.

Raven looked back up at the hole, impatiently waiting for Eli to come down.

Should I tell him soon? She wondered.

Eli slid down the ladder, his face soaked in sweat, he finally relaxed for a moment, in the light, he saw things more clearly, his companions faces, and particular, Raven's wound He pointed at her arm, "That, Is going to get infected if we don't clean it quickly Lass." He moved into the shelter and put several more cranks on the power generator, the lights became brighter, almost sterile white like a hospital operating room, he moved about with haste, "This guy was... like I mentioned, almost fully stocked up, He just ran out of food and then left for more... Pretty sure I found his body about hundred feet south of the entrance..." He shook his head, "That's how I confirmed this place though, found his footprints." He rifled around through one of the many crates of supplies, "There's mostly electronics in here, random junk, got myself some flashlights and other stuff, few toys that might come in handy later. But this box..." He pulled a long, metal case out, it was hermetically sealed, it was as long as he was tall, "Was a prize I couldn't believe he got down that hole in one piece. I'd actually used one before so I was able to open it, and operate it on myself when I found the place, had a broken leg then see." he tapped the access code for the box, and it popped open with a hiss, "Omnitrix Medical Unit, top of the line military grade first aid kit, any idiot with an instruction book can run one of these, self cleaning, self replenishing, you add minor ingredients into it's dishes when it gets low on supplies, and it grows it's own antibiotics, and all that other such fluff. Venezuela, had one then, saved a whole village from cholera with one of them." He grins as it primed itself, it was at 73% operating potential. He was talking hurriedly, rushing, still on adrenaline. the machine was booted up, and it issued a command on it's screen, -Patient Please-. Eli motioned to the scanner, "Ye put your hand on it, and it looks ye over, then it's little servo arms pop up and go to work, cleaning, dressing, and stitching wounds quick as any doctor, twice as clean, and nearly zero scarring, watched one reattach a buddies leg once while he was still shooting a RPG's out a window, was clean off!" He motioned to it, "Nothin to worry about, or to fear, It's totally painless."

Raven looked doubtfully at the contraption. It certainly LOOKED like it would hurt...

She put her arm on the machine, eyeing it with a look of suspicion. But there was nothing to worry about, cuz he was right!

After it was done with the whole snippy snippy sewwy sewwy thing, she pulled her arm up to her eye and examined it carfully, looking for any flaws. Not seeing any, she put down her arm, raised an eyebrow and shrugged. It worked.

As she lowered her arm, it bumped against the close wall.

"Ow!" She said loudly, then covered her mouth with her hands, looking around wide eyed.

The silence was deafening to her ears. She smiled weakly at them all.

Eli froze for a moment, his eyes widening as Raven uttered her first real sound among them. Then, after a moment of silence, He laughed, loud and long, his chest heaving as he did, tears coming to his eyes, Eli sat down on the floor and howled, clutching his sides, he shook his head and remarked, "Ah, Lass, Right when I think I've got a bead on ye, Ye go and surprise me, I could kiss ye for the laughter girl." He pulled himself to his feet and tapped the controls on the Medical machine, closing it again, it would self clean and replenish what it needed to from its internal stores. He would slide it away and then sit down on the small ledge beside the storage area, sighing with a smile, "What a good day today has been... Maker's be thanked..."

Raven looked shocked as Eli fell to the ground, laughing.

"You-you-you don't want to know why I lied to you all this time?" Her voice cracked from lack of use.

She looked anxiously at the others, twisting her fingers.

Eli shrugged at her, "We've got our reasons for everything Lass, Just glad to hear you've a voice you can use, It'll help later on I'd say." He smiled at her warmly, chuckling lightly, "Though, if it's somethin' ye need off your chest, your always welcome to share." Eli was an old card at long military engagements, and this, to him, was not much difference then bonding with members of a unit, though he suspected if they bonded well enough, they would all survive much longer. "Share if you'd like Lass." He said again.

Raven blushed and looked a little sad.

"It's just... I leaned by the time I was six that talking only got me into trouble, and then I met you guys, and... Every time you asked me if I trusted you, I couldn't help but feel a little guilty, because... I didn't!"

She looked ashamed and dipped her head. She leaned against the wall.

With a snort and another laugh, he let himself fall back against the floor, the big man clutched his sides further as he laughed aloud before wiping tears of mirth away, he sat up and shook his head, "Lass, I'd repeat myself but I'm not one to do so, I know I asked ye to trust me, but Honestly, If I had been in your boots when I asked ye to trust me, I'd have turn tail and ran, Yer a much braver girl then most. But yer among friends, Feel free ta always speak your mind alright? Dunno bout those two, but far as I'm concerned, I'll lose a few pints of blood for ye. Ye spent a week followin after me, and didn't slit my throat for my supplies, and I know, more then once, ye coulda." He grinned, knowing he was always full of openings, he was comforted to have the girl around, she'd watched his back for a week without him knowing it, and that alone made him feel oddly safer.

(Sorry guys. I've had troubles) Edward was still shocked that Raven could talk. He felt ashamed of himself regard things he had said. "Hey, Raven, I'm sorry for calling you a mute. It was pretty quick to the tongue, no pun intended." He smiled at her shakily. "Think we could start over?" He looked away. 'Man. If you keep slipping up none of these people will want to stick with you. They will throw you to the next crowd of Darkies or Raiders that come by.' Ed thought to himself.

Raven looked surprised. "I just can't believe that you guys aren't mad at me!"

She smiled, relieved. "Of course! I'm not angry at you! You thought I was mute. And that wasn't your fault, so I don't blame you."
