Futuristic The Sun's Rest

Ashley smiles, feeling a bit safer now that her companion list has increased by two. "Well you've got the most intel and the most years," softly jabs his forearm, "that would make you senior of the group," then under her breath, but so Eli could still hear, "not that our two ages put together would beat you." She sticks her tongue out. "Empire State Building, huh? You know, even before all of this I've never been there. Now, it's about to be like a scene out of Resident Evil," she cracks for a moment, "I hate monsters!" a few deep breaths later and she's pulled herself together. "Sorry...being the youngest, I usually got outvoted on movie night and kind of have a horror movie complex...which sucks since this world has all but become a living horror movie." She made sure her bat was secured on the underside of her bag and still easily accessible. "You've definitely got a good luck streak running for ya, I hope it holds strong till we're good n safe." she unsheathed her blade and twirled it through her fingers, displaying a flashy show of dexterity, but mainly doing it to help calm herself. As she wasn't so good with horror movies, nights weren't really her favorite either, especially when there is actually something out there that can get you.

Edaward studied her closely. "I'm sorry. I haven't said anything yet. I'm Edward, nice to formally meet you. Edward reached out his hand for a quick shake. He turned to Eli. "So...when will we get there?" I'm dying for some sleep. Edward noticed something on the ground. He stooped over and picked up a piece of rusted metal before sitting to continue examining it. He looked very uncomfortable while doing so. He adopted an angry look and threw the metal. He buried his head on his hands and his shoulders heaved, an obvious sign he was crying. All you could hear from him was a small whisper, "Why, goddamit? Why?"

Eli waved his hands with a big grin, "No, No, I'm no leader, Well not anymore... I failed in that capacity one too many times... I just gather information, feed it to a leader. I'm just guiding Ed to this stash, S'pose now that theres three of us though..." He glanced around, "Ought to make things much easier, can run this like a mission... Either one of you very good at running?" When Ed lifted the peice of metal up and tossed it away, Eli paused, looking to the man, he hesitated to reach out, instead asking, "Ed lad, Ye alright?" With his concern came a bit of his old speech patterns, the Scotch-Irish accent from his ancestry.

Ashley shook hands with Ed, "Nice to meet you." After listening to Eli talk for a moment and seeing Ed's outburst she looked down at the bit he dropped. "I've got pretty good endurance and a decent amount of speed." Praying the question didn't mean she'd have to be bait. She looked back at Ed and then to Eli, "What was..." she decided it may be best to just leave the question for a later time

Ed looked at Eli and smiled a little at his concern. "I...I'm fine. Thanks. I guess I could be considered a good runner." Edward picked up a stick and began to draw abstract doodles in the dirt. "I think we should get going. What do you guys want to do?" He stood up and looked at the others. I'm gonna look around...." Ed got up and began to take a stroll, walking away from them. He didn't want them to see him as weak.

Eli paused, considering Ed for a moment, he sighed quietly, and then nodded, "Alright, Well, We need some bait..." He glanced at Ashley with a light smile, sorry, but I need someone to draw out who-ever is in there, if they're humans, you'll be first contact and we'll be able to judge if they're morally clean minded by sending a lady first, sorry to use you like that but... you get my intention. If they're Dark Ones..." He pulled his axe off of his back, the weapon gleamed in the dark, despite the lack of light, it all but shone out as though hungry for a kill, "I'll be waiting..."

"I knew it," she chuckled a bit out of nervousness as her knife spin through her hand. "I pray for humans, I'll even take mean ones." she laughed nervously as she sheathed her knife. "Okay then," She shook herself back to calm, "Let's get this show moving, Pops, while I've got myself ready for this."

Edward noticed their readiness and walked toward them. He heard Eli's plan and, although it seemed a bit too daring, trusted him. "Are you sure you want to do this, Ashley?" He looked at her in uncertainty. He didn't want to lose a friend after not seeing another human for five years.

Ashley burst into laughter for a few seconds and tears rolled down her face, but she quickly wiped them away. "Are you kidding me? I could name a handful of nasty things right now I'd rather do than this," she smiled at Ed, "This is for survival though, so at some point we all have to do something we'd rather not, right?" She looked back to Eli and scrunched her face into a child-like pout, "If I get eaten, I'll be haunting you for the rest of eternity, just so you know."

Eli nodded to them both, and waved his hand, "Come then, It's ways walk this way, We'll see what else we run into on the way..." He grinned, "Who knows... we may end up finding a battalion of soldiers on the way." He chuckled and pulled his bag off of his back, opening it up carefully, as he walked he withdrew supplies he would need, setting things up, he took several lengths of his high tensile cord and tied it together, he began binding a harness together, muttering, "If it's darkies... and they nab her... we can pull her back... If It's humans... and they nab her... we can pull her back too... If it's animals... we can pull her back as well... huh... let's see... set the blade up for ranged..." He pulled another cord out and paused, motioning Edward Forward, "Ed, Comere..."

Raven closed her eyes, praying that they didn't see her. She curled up into a little ball, her stomach growling.

She had been tailing Eli for days, nabbing his supplies when needed. But she hadn't gotten a chance to today, and she was hungry. Probably not as hungry as that girl he had met, but none the less, she was hungry.

Her stomach growled again, and she closed her eyes. She felt a tear slip from her eye.

After years in the dark, Eli's senses were far superior then that of most, He'd been trained before the sun went out, so when the sun finally went out, it was just an alteration of the battlefield, there was no downtime, He put on a soft exterior, but he was always alert, always listening for the slightest sounds, He had heard Ashley's firearm before she had even pulled it, he'd heard her approaching before she had even known they were there. He knew he had been trailed, but it didn't matter to him, but now, with multiple allies, he had no idea how they would respond to his tail, he paused to consider things, then stopped mid step, sheathing his kukiri, he found a split in the pavement, and sank his axe into it, blade first, deep enough he was confident he would be the only one that could remove it. He looked to the other two, and whispered, "Don't be alarmed, but I need you both to wait here, I have something I need to do." He motioned to the axe, "If you need it." He knew they wouldn't be able to remove it, but he wanted them to feel safe out in the open. "Just don't stray from it, I'll be back for you." He took the canteen, and a bit more of his food from his bag again, and strapped it to his hip, dropping his bag over the handle of the axe, he turned and took several steps to the right, into one of the many abandoned buildings, saying loudly enough to be heard, "I'll be right back, Just gotta take a piss, wait up for me will ya?" and then he was gone, like a specter in the darkness.

Ashley was a little worried when Eli left, because Edward seemed a little more unnerved out of the 3 of them, and now that Eli was gone she had to be the strong one here. She looked down at the axe. At least we can defend ourselves if something goes wrong. She didn't worry about it too much though, because she had been around guys and knew that it didn't take them that long to do their business. She pulled her knife back out and began to spin it through her fingers while reflecting on positive thoughts. She was certain that Eli would come back just fine and that nothing was going to come for them while he was away, but she also didn't like standing out in the open. She grabbed Edward and drug him over to what remained of a car, and pulled him down against it. "We'll wait here till he returns, better not to be standing out where others can easily spot us,"she whispered as they crouched down against the car.

Raven looked up from the tree bark she was studying, and was surprised to find that Eli was gone from the group.

Her throat went dry and she climbed up a few more branches. You're just being paranoid, knock it out. He probably went to go get more food or something.

Eli moved quietly, slowly, he ascended to the second story, then the third of the building, he went up two more stories, and found the door to the roof already open, he grinned, thinking to himself Lucky Me... He slid over to the edge of the roof, crouching low, his stance wide to avoid making any noise, the soft sand paper cushioned each of his foot falls. He slid his fingertips into a small taut bag on his bandolier, and withdrew a couple of rocks, small, benign things, He was still low, staring out of one of the storm drains that had rotted into a large enough hole for him to see through. After a moment of letting his eyes adjust, he threw the rock away from himself, over the other edge of the building, towards the street closest to Ashely and Ed. He glanced down through the hole, taking in the street, when the rock hit the ground, he'd watch to see who, or what reacted.

Already nervous, Raven positively jumped when a rock landed right below the tree she was hiding in. She quickly grabbed the branch to stop it from shaking, and frowned. Why would Eli be throwing rocks when he was going to get more food? ...maybe her paranoia had a good reason.

She sat stock still, her hand on the staff that was wedged in between two branches.

Eli heard the movement before he saw it, but he saw the tree's branches the instant they moved, His eyes were adjusted, his hearing was adjusted, he moved quickly, was up, and had a line of his cord through the blade of his knife a knot in one end of it, the other end he quickly tied off to his belt. He jumped off the side of the building, the blade ramming into the plaster, the cord ran through the pommel hole of his blade, his descent was slowed, He felt the cord catch, and he ran along the building's face, Raven would hear it, but she wouldn't be able to react before he was on her, he yanked the cord, dislodging the knife from the plaster, he muttered, "Time to quit hidin' Tag-a-long!" He had the kukiri back in his hand, he was within a meter of the tree, his blade arm back, "Don't run, I just want to talk..." He slid the blade back into it's sheath, "You've been tailing me what, a week? More? Come on down, lets talk."

Raven stared at Eli with fear and shook her head slowly. She tapped her throat and shook her head again. but she slowly climbed out of the tree and pulled down her staff.

Eli paused, and frowned, she'd tapped her throat, either that meant don't speak, Or she couldn't speak, so he went silent, and put his hands out to his sides, whispering, "Nod if you can speak, but don't feel its safe to at the moment, shake your head if you cant speak." He was trying to keep his appearance as non threatening as possible so he slowly, carefully took the flask of water from his hip, the food that he'd slid into a pouch next to it with it, he reached out towards her with both hands, the water and food in one, his other free, beckoning her over, so if she could whisper, he'd be able to hear her easier.

Raven hesitated, not sure whether to nod or shake her head. In the end she shook her head, and looked at the water, her throat dry and stomach hungry, and then looked back at him for confirmation of permission.

He nodded, and knelt down, he tapped his sheathed blade with his free hand, "Here, Let me put us on even ground." He whispered. He unclasped the blade's sheath, and dropped it on the ground between her and the food, "You can pick it up, just be careful, the blade is sharper then a razor." He held the food and water out further, he smiled warmly, "I promise, I'm not going to hurt you."

Ashley was impressed as she watched the old man Matrix-run along the face of a building and end up in a tree. Well, damn! Pops is a badass! She wasn't quite sure what was over there but Pops thought it was important, so she just waited patiently. No use screaming and causing unnecessary commotion. She sat back playing with her knife and periodically glancing over at Ed

Raven smiled slightly, and slipped out of her sleeve a switchblade. Then, reaching down, she pulled a tiny gun out of her boot. She hefted her staff and smiled.

Crouching down, she wrote in the dirt around the tree roots I don't really think we're on even ground. Also, you don't have to treat me like a baby. I'm 19- I think. She purposely didn't mention anything about her name, and reached over and took the water and food. She leaned against the tree and began to eat. She took a swig of water and raised an eyebrow at him.

Eli shrugged, and whispered, "More I was offering ye me own knife, which, with you could cut through anything I'm wearing if I did attack you, and at least maim me if I tried to hurt you." He sat down, and back, and shrugged, "So Tag-a-Long, are ye out here on your own?"

Raven nodded. For the first few years I had a companion, but he was killed pretty quickly. But by then I could handle myself. She scratched in the dirt.
