Fantasy The Random Hotel

"For trapping you don't need to pronounce them.. Unlike most sigils and such. You just need whatever you want trapped to walk into the circle.. Just write them and that's it. It's.. You know.. Magic, the circle draws power from the runes and then they make sure whatever you want trapped stays trapped and powerless." Ezekiel paced around a bit. "Hmh... But yeah.. Pronouncing the runes takes time for sigils and all of that. I mean.. I had trouble with in the the beginning too.." Ezekiel grinned.

"Hmmh... Sure... Here" Ezekiel snapped his fingers and a small piece of paper appeared in his hand.. "Right... Now.. The special thing about runes... Lass, is that you can use pretty much any sort of runic language... Even human ones.. Anglo-saxon runes and such.." Ezekiel handed Artemis the paper. "If you want to copy it somewhere you just do that. In the order I made it it doesn't do anything.. And a quick note. It doesn't matter in the order of making the trapping circle."

Sha'tana smiled as her plate of raw meat appeared before her. As she dug a fork and knife into it, it seeped red ooze, "Bon appetite." She chewed on her food thoughtfully, "Ehh.. like I said it was created by some other beings similar to myself. And, you're not on Earth." She wiped her mouth with a napkin and placed it back on her lap. She gave him a small smile, "No one in your city could just walk right in here. Only the lost, the broken, and particular hotel seekers, such as yourself, can see the portal to my hotel." Slowly, yet patiently, Sha'tana ate her food. She sipped on her cup of water and sighed refreshingly.

"Phyra, sounds like fire. Demons are punny and I told you what I am. Take a guess," Seven drawled, reaching the bar. What's a Djnn...? Don't know, don't care. Don't be rude. Ha! Too late. Seven muttered her desired drink to the bartender, not bothering to remember his name. She grabbed a seat at different table, one that wouldn't be knocked over if anyone else decided to tackle her.

Malcolm mumbled under his breath some Japanese words "Itadakimasu" before carefully cutting the meat into small pieces. He nodded slowly as Sha'tana told him about how the hotel. He smiled a bit, saying teasingly "I thought you eating would be much more of a show. But you are actually eating like a civilized person." Malcolm chuckled a bit, as he drank some of his wine. It was long ago since he had had this good of a meal, not to mention, he was actually talking with someone else, not just himself, and it felt oddly comforting for Malcolm to be in this unusual situation for him.

Sha'tana gave Malcom a look that read, 'Really?' She shook her head, "Humans don't normally eat raw meat. I don't eat like a savage beast." She gave him a disappointed look. Most humans are incapable of eating raw meat because of the potential parasites that could be in them. Was he honestly expecting me to eat in a strange manner? I was honestly referring to the food being strange, not my mannerisms... She looked away in the midst of her thoughts. "So, can I know what's in the case?" she asked trying to change the subject. She tilted her head to the side, looking at the case between his legs.

Malcolm sighed a slight sigh, and set his plate to his side, and put the suitcase on the table. "I was a bit reluctant to show you before I saw your meal, but I don't think this will bother you." Malcolm opened the suitcase, and pulled out a human hand. He put the hand down, and closed the suitcase, setting it at his side. He then picked up the hand, and extended it towards Sha'tana. "This is partly why i am here. You may notice how well preserved it is, how fresh it looks? That hand is 2 years old. It had been part of a cold case, and I merely, uhm, liberated the police or this puzzling evidence, as a client wanted to know what happened to the owner of this hand. And all my tacks leads to this place." He reached into the suitcase once more, taking up a small black rose (Not related to Hex, just a little FYI) and put it in the stiff dead hand. "That is how it looked 2 years back when this hand was found. Who it belongs to, and who detached it from ts owner is unknown. And that is why I am here now, hoping you would help me in this matter."

Sha'tana placed her hand on her lips and gasped, "You believe there's a killer in my hotel?" She looked at the hand. Who would preserve a hand? she thought to herself. She then saw Malcom place a black rose in the dead hand, "Killer's signature?" The rose looked similar to the rose Hex left at the edge of her bed. He never left my hotel until now... she pondered. "Did the owner of the hand ever visited this hotel?" she asked curiously.

"I understand why you have a lot of questions, and I wish I could answer them, but if I could, I would not be here now, but yes, we do believe the killing was here at this hotel, since the hand is preserved by, un-earthly forces. Something that is only known to man here at this hotel." Malcolm Said leaning back in the chair, stretching his back.

Sha'tana gestured in the direction of the reception, "Gu, my receptionist and second hand, has every guests' name recorded. I can give you access, but if the guest is no longer checked-in and they came from another dimension, then there is no way for you to meet with them." She frowned and elaborated a bit more on the situation of her hotel, "If I were to leave the hotel, I'd be back in my planet Shelbanaza. The only way for me to walk into the human world is if I immediately leave after a being, particularly from that world, while being physically connected."

A memory of two of her hotel guests came to mind, "I had two guests that fell in love with each other, but they were entirely different races and from different dimensions: one was from a secondary form or dimension of Earth and the other called their planet Mun. They wanted to be together, but this hotel was the only way they could meet. Finally, they attempted to go to the second dimension of Earth together." She smiled, "They now live together and have a family." She lifted her hand upright on the table, "They left holding hands; the Vampire first with their partner following behind."

Sha'tana thought of the amount of time the hand has been kept preserved, "Only a rare few of my guest stay longer than a year. Just a handful live permanently here." This reminded her of Hex. He never left. He was always here by her side until now. He's gone without a trace. She can't follow him into whatever world he went to. She's just stuck here for life if she wanted. And, this was her home. She wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Anywhere, but Shelbanaza.

Malcolm reflected a bit on what he had just heard. "Damn." He said quietly, his face mocked with annoyance. He had so dearly hoped this was gonna be the end of it. He sighed before saying "Then that is that contract I do believe, as there are no other clues, and in any case, any way to get to the other beings." Malcolm thought for a moment, before asking "Do you know, by any chance, somebody who may be able to see who have casted the spell that preserved the hand? If I can figure out who it is, I may be able to get some gear to temporarily change the properties of the portal leading in to this place." Malcolm scratched his chin, clearly trying to think up a situation or a possibility how he in any way could change his destination. If it at all would be possible to do with what was at his disposal.

I walk into the lobby of the hotel, my eyes wide. It was a blessing that it showed up when it did. I sigh,

and take a few steps toward the reception desk with four black hooves. "Um..."

I clear my throat, and the receptionist looks up. His name tag says "Gu". "May, I get a room?" I ask

softly. The receptionist looks me over, and hands me a key. "Here you go my

lady. Please sign in." He says, but something behind him catches my eye. A monstrous shadow lurks

behind him, its shoulders shaking with laughter. My head tilts with confusion,

and I look down to the sign in sheet. Many names are already written there. I pick up the pen and sign

my name. "Thank you..." I say softly, and I walk from the reception desk, key

in hand. I had nothing, but perhaps the hotel would give me place to start again. Each hoof clops the

ground, but I look not to them, rather to the stairs. I
could go up stairs, but it

was difficult, and often dangerous for me. Being a centaur, I would have much trouble getting all four

hooves in order up the stairs. My face contorts into one of concern as I look up

the stairs, then down the hallway, but I see no lift. "Oh...dear."

Artemis studied the paper. "Could we practice these trapping cirlces?" she asked Ezekiel.

Ezekiel tilted his head. "Ehm.. I guess? You just got to make them and let someone ..Well me walk into it... Although.. I could personally break it again, considering I am half-human. But it'll stop my powers. And still restrict me... To a degree.." "It would trap me... Seraphim.. She is tricking you... You need me. For the barrier.. Ezekiel placed a hand to his forehead. "Right... It's do-able. I mean with the book I gave you, you could always find better trapping circles." He made a half-assed grin. "Where do you want to practice it? Just here in the lobby?"

"In my room, due to the influx of beings that might be trapped by it here."

"Well.. IT could be fun to trap others.. I mean making the trap subtle is of course a main factor on traps! You rarely see traps in the open!" Ezekiel grinned and nodded. "Right-O, lass. Your room it is then?" Ezekiel nodded. "Just don't find a trapping circle that I can't break off from... Heh.. If that is possible.. Although the book is newer than my collection.. I'm sure the writers of Limbo added some new stuff in it." Ezekiel chuckled again. "Ladies first?"

Artemis led the way up to her room.

Ezekiel stood by the door. "Alright, another minor lesson. What material you use matters. If you carve it for an example. It would be much harder to disrupt the circle. The same goes for using sand or salt or any other grain-ish. material. The most normal for sigil users is drawing it with chalk or charcoal. You can also use a pencil, but that's just silly. Some magic beings are also more weak to certain traps. For an example if you are hunting a were-creature. Usage of silver in any sort is a very good tactic and much better than anything else. Demons for another example it's better to actually use salt, holy water or well anything blessed. You know... Everything got a weakness."

"I think I'll use chalk. After all, this is intended to be temporary, and I don't want to repay Sha'tana's hospitality by defacing her floors."

"Right. Well you don't want me to guide you all the way? I mean it's just a circle and then the runes. Don't include the small dot that is just where one word ends and the next begins afterwards. The whole *magic* part is in the words, and you don't need to an artist. It doesn't need to be 100% correlation.. It's like handwriting, we all got a different one." Ezekiel looked at Artemis and sighed with a smile. "Temporary is always a nice word for 'I'll be back in a few hours' Which is also another nice way to say 'screw you, this was a set-up.' Although I don't think you'll do that hehe.. There is no reason for that." Ezekiel laughed heartily.

Artemis was confused by the last thing he said. "Temporary means that I intend to scuff it out once the test is over."

"Yeah.. Long story short, Someone accidentally trapped me in a circle for a few hours. But that doesn't matter. Just get the circle going and I'll step into it.. All we need is something huge and evil chasing me and it's like the good old days..." Ezekiel smiled to himself and nodded to Artemis. "Well.. That would be bad in a room like this."
