“Just fine,” Nate answered, smiling into the kiss. All mornings should start with cuddles and kisses. He gestured to the others. “I think they did better too. Maybe we should consider cuddling a little more aggressively apparently.” He doubted that would keep away all the bad dreams, but it might help a little. He looked out the window. “Storm’s been done for a while now. It shouldn’t be too hard to leave, though it will be light so there may be more patrols we have to dodge.”

Alex smiled as he looked at Nate and snorted softly, quietly. “I guess aggressive cuddles are one way to make everyone happy.” He said as he yawned a little, trying to wake up. “Mm. Maybe we’ll get lucky. All the patrols will be in the other side of the city.” Alex replied, shifting a little so he could stretch a little bit as he laid there.​

Nate also laughed quietly. “Everyone is happy when Carlos is happy.” He could only imagine how the group would be if Carlos was ever not happy. Even in his tears in the night, he still laughed and smiled and joked. Nate remembered Carlos when Kaleb was hurt by that arrow. That was painful to watch. Even then, he was keeping Kaleb going. What would he be like truly angry or sad? “I am sure that is exactly how this goes. Though, we have gotten awfully lucky the past couple of days.”

Alex nodded as he smiled at that, glancing over at Carlos. "Isn't that the truth." Alex admitted, as he thought about last night and when Kaleb had been injured before. He had to wonder how Carlos would be if he was really mad. It was something that he both wanted and didn't want to see. "I think we'll have a little bit more luck, just enough to get us out of this city, and headed south."​

A little more luck. He wanted that. They needed that little bit more luck, and there was no reason they couldn’t find it. Not when they were all together. Nate placed a hand on Alex’s cheek. “When did you get so optimistic?” He asked. He ran his fingers across the cheek, across beautiful scars he would never ask him not to have. He was going to say more when Carlos began to stir from where he was still throughly buried.

Alex looked at Nate, feeling the hand on his cheek. He smiled as he heard his question, feeling the fingers run across his scars. "I had a pretty good teacher." Alex whispered before he noticed Carlos beginning to stir. Kaleb was right behind him, a soft groan as he slowly untangled from where he'd curled around Carlos last night and stretched a little. "Morning guys" Kaleb said softly, looking at the other two.​

“‘Ood morni’ my fav-favorite people.” Carlos’ yawn spliced the words as he tried to speak. “Oh, don’t leave me,” he whined as he reached for Kaleb once more. He was liking this being ensconced thing. Also, he was a needy and clingy kind of person. This had nothing to do with his deathly fear of losing Kaleb. It was just who he was. Nate smiled at the other two, leaning against Alex. “Mornin’. How did everyone sleep?”

Kaleb heard Carlos' words and chuckled at the spliced words as his love yawned. He heard the whine when he'd gone to untangle and shook his head with a smile. "Okay, I won't leave you." Kaleb said, returning to his original curled state around him. Kaleb looked at Nate and smiled at him. "I slept quite well once I fell asleep." Kaleb said as he kissed Carlos gently. Alex smiled at the two as he shifted in place, feeling Nate leaning against him.​

No matter how bad a night was, waking up to your three favorite people in the whole world was enough to make the dreary a little less horrible. Carlos reached out his still asleep arms, haphazardly flailing them as he reached around his people, and pulled everyone close. It was easy since they already were. “Anything else exciting happen in the night?” Nate shook his head. “Only you are that exciting. The rest of us are boring without you.” Carlos nodded and smiled. “That’s what I thought. You know, this is why you guys need me. For the excitement. Who is going to run the ball without me?” He shook his head. “None of you. No one will dance without me.”

Both Kaleb and Alex looked at each other as they watched Carlos flail his arms but they were all held close. Kaleb and Alex shook their heads as Kaleb chuckled softly. “Baby, only you are the exciting one around here.” Kaleb told him with a smile. He heard Carlos mention the ball and smiled wider. “Do you think we can get Asher to dance with us? Because we definitely need to do this ball in Jackson. I haven’t see you and Jordan dance together yet.” Kaleb said as Alex tilted his head. “Dancing? I’ll try but I’ve never done it before.” Alex said as he laid there.​

“I feel as though I have missed something very important here,” Nate said as he pulled away from the group cuddle. Carlos gave him a look but allowed it. He decided it was better to explain then. “Long time ago, I was in a mood, which I am sure is shocking. And I was joking about dancing and how we should have a ball, because that’s what fancy people before used to have. Jordan was all in. Asher was unsurprisingly not, though it was less about no balls and more like no he did not dance.” He kissed Kaleb’s cheek. “But between you and Jordan, I am sure you could convince him. Which leaves..” He turned to Nate. “Are you going to wimp out on me too?” Nate, feeling a bit on the spot, burned with the sudden spotlight. Looking away he shrugged. “I- I don’t know. I’m not against dancing.. Ben was our dancer. Well, actually Max could actually dance. I wasn’t-“ “Uh huh, yeah, there’s enough of us to make our shy ones dance.”

Alex shifted away from the cuddle when Nate moved and stretched as he stood up. He was listening to everything that Carlos was saying. A ball? That sounded interesting, and something that he kind of found neat. Kaleb on the other hand smiled at the kiss to his cheek. “I’m sure we could get him to dance at least a couple times.” Kaleb agreed, with a smile on his face. Kaleb too went to move away from the group cuddle, looking at Carlos. “But we can’t have a ball if we’re still here and not in Jackson.” Kaleb told him with a small laugh.​

Carlos grinned at Kaleb. “You’re so right. We can’t sit in here for the rest of time. We have to face that scary world out there. The one that.. looks like it never even stormed. Wow, this place is strange.” He stretched his limbs up high and then fell back onto the ground to stretch some more. Nate patted both Alex and Kaleb. “He’s yours when he’s like this.” Then he moved away to grab breakfast. No questions asked. Just pulled over a bag and started handing out utensils.

Kaleb laughed as he shifted a little in place as he heard that and watched Carlos stretch then fall back to the ground to stretch more. He glanced up at Nate when he felt the pat and shook his head. “I don’t want him.” Kaleb said with a teasing grin, while Alex moved away from Carlos. “Nope. He’s yours.” Alex said as he looked at Nate before both he and Kaleb took utensils as Alex saw Nate get breakfast. “Grab something good for breakfast, we’ll need our energy if we wanna make it to Oregon today.” Alex recommended as he glanced at his family.​

“Too late my beauties. I’ve already claimed you all.” Carlos pulled himself up and planted a big kiss on Kaleb’s cheek and then another on Alex’s. He looked up at Nate and beckoned him with a finger. “Come on. You know you want it.” Nate rolled his eyes as he pulled out the last of the spaghetti and ravioli. “We splurge because it was a hard day and night. And then we are on a mission to find more.” He set them down in front of everyone and sighed as he looked at Carlos. “Fine, but only because of the said hard day and night.” He leaned in, assuming that Carlos would do the same thing to him as he did the other two, and he was very wrong. Carlos started like he was but then grabbed Nate’s chin and twisted his head around to plant a big kiss on his lips. Startled, Nate fell back as Carlos laughed and laughed like it was the funniest thing he had ever seen.

Kaleb and Alex both let out a mixture of a groan and a chuckle at his words. Kaleb smiled at the kiss and Alex blushed at the kiss. Both of them looked at the two, although Alex's attention drew to Nate's choice of breakfast. "I think that's a great idea. Especially after yesterday and last night." Alex agreed as he watched Nate lean in for a kiss, and then he laughed at the following chaos and Kaleb snorted, shaking his head as he took a bite of ravioli. Alex laughed a little longer before he took a bite of spaghetti. "Okay, are you done picking on our Medicine Man? We're going to eat all the food before you get any baby." Kaleb teased Carlos with a grin.​

Carlos was not done laughing yet. He also fell back on his butt with a loud thud, laughing so hard that it absolutely filled the room. Nate, who was definitely embarrassed now, groaned as his entire face, ears and neck included, were as red as red could be. It wasn’t until Carlos called down and conceded with a, “Fine, fine but how could any of you deny that it was great?” and started eating as well that Nate was finally able to also start eating. He was, however, still too embarrassed and surprised to say anything.

Kaleb laughed a little as he watched Carlos fall back onto his butt before he took another bite. “It was pretty great love.” Kaleb said with a grin as Alex nudged Nate’s shoulder with a smile as he took a bite of ravioli. “He got you pretty good baby.” Alex admitted as he chuckled, taking another two bites before he was done. Kaleb took a few more himself before he too was done.​

Nate and Carlos had to catch up with the eating. Nate was catching up faster than Carlos, because Carlos was struggling to not start up the laughter again. Nate finally shook his head and then nodded. “Yeah, yeah he did. This will teach me not to trust anyone ever again.” And as much as he wanted that to be a serious statement, he smiled a little bit. He grabbed everyone’s spoons to wipe down and put away. “You’ll have to do better next time to get me again.” Carlos narrowed his eyes. “That sounds like a challenge, and I accept. Alright, you guys ready to go meet the fifth and sixth best person in the entire world?” He was so hoping that they were in Jackson.

Alex rolled his eyes as he laughed softly. “Yeah. We’ll see.” He said as he moved to stand up from their group cuddle. He also saw that little bit of a smile as well. Kaleb looked at Carlos as Nate took all the spoons and heard the challenge in the air. “Nate.. you are going to regret challenging him.” Kaleb laughed as he got to his feet. Once everyone was up, Alex would start picking up the blankets. “I for one cannot wait to meet them.” Alex said as Kaleb nodded. “I can’t wait to see him.. them again.” Kaleb admitted as he also hoped they were in Jackson. ​

Nate peered over at Kaleb and then Carlos wondering if he really was going to regret that. He helped Alex pick up the blankets and put them away. Carlos grabbed Kaleb’s hand and tossed it up as he chuckled. “I think it is so cute how much you miss him.” He grabbed their packs and handed Kaleb’s to him as he shoved his own over his shoulder. Nate also put his on as he headed to the door. “I would like to mention to everyone something that will not shock you. But I don’t know how to get out of this building and leave this city. So. If you want to leave to go see your affairs, someone else is going to have to lead us out.”

Kaleb chuckled as he felt Carlos take his hand and toss it up. He blushed softly and looked away. “What can I say? He made quite the impression.” Kaleb admitted as he took his pack from Carlos and put it on. After the blankets were picked up, Alex smiled as he slipped on his pack and took Nate’s hand. “Then it’s a good thing we have me then huh?” Alex said as he turned and headed to the door. He pulled it open and looked. “Clear.” He said as he led the way out the hallway and to the door at the end of the hall, the stairs that would lead them to the ground floor and to the streets.​

Carlos worked so hard to open Kaleb up, and he was so afraid that losing Jordan and Asher, even if it was just them splitting up to travel separately, would close Kaleb back up at least a little. He did not want to have to pry him back open. Knowing that he still felt that connection with Asher was everything to Carlos. That meant that Kaleb was doing so much better than when he first decided to break through that wall. It was just so cute. He loved being able to share that kind of love. He followed after Alex and Nate, choosing to be quiet in their stealthing now. On the ground floor, Nate poked his head out into the building to whisper, “Clear” before they moved through and towards the streets.

Kaleb had been crushed when they separated from Jordan and Asher, but he also had understood that they wanted to retire. It had been a few months before he thought about Asher and didn’t want to shed a few, or several, tears. He followed Nate and Alex quietly as they made it to the ground floor. Alex paused with Nate when he checked outside the building. Alex looked around and nodded. “This way.” Alex whispered as he led them towards the bombed part of Seattle, through the ruined area and large flat area near the bank. Kaleb’s eyes widened as he took in the area and thought he’d seen parts of Denver on the far side that looked bombed just outside the QZ. “Wow.” Kaleb whispered as he took it in while they moved.​

This was something new for Nate. He knew about what FEDRA did at the beginning, because the Fireflies knew everything bad that FEDRA did. He knew that places were bombed in numerous section across the country. He knew that Seattle was bad. He had never actually been to Seattle before. As they moved, Nate slowed and then grabbed Kaleb’s hand. This was hard to look at for both of them. FEDRA may have done this, but the Fireflies use that against all of them to include the ones like Kaleb who did not make that decision. But also, the Fireflies weren’t any better. Didn’t they bomb a place that killed Kaleb’s mom? Carlos also slowed to walk a little close to some of the remaining structures that did not even resemble buildings anymore. He wished that this area was not so dangerous. He wished that he could explore. But he also did not want to encounter those wolves again. He could not promise that he would not respond more aggressively than he would like.
