I edited my post to show that Fat Cat also spotted the Lute and the Boots. Sorry I forgot to add him to the original post.

*whistle* That is some sweet rewards.
Remind me how identifying stuff works in Exalted?
I think that it is covered under either Lore or Craft. Either one should give us some info.

Yeah. When I was first making my character, I wanted to find some kind of Charm or Merit or item that allowed the easier detection of such things. I don't like leaving behind loot if I can avoid it.

If you wish to, give me a Perception + Larceny roll to see if you can find any hidden treasures on him.
A curiosity here. Larceny but not investigation? Why so? (I don't know enough about the game to see the answer myself.)

I would guess it would be determined by just how you are searching.

This is generally why we declare the intent behind our rolls as we make them. Abilities have a lot of overlap. They aren't as broad as Attributes, but Abilities do have a rather respectable and logical scope. To share a few examples...

Basic first aid like cleaning a wound could be considered not just medicine, but could be argued to be a survival skill as well.

Searching someone could be Larceny (the skill of pickpocketing), Investigation (the general catch all for Perception with intent), or Awareness (Passive Perception, or something catching your eye).

Social actions are probably the most murky territory with Presence, Performance, and Socialize each being capable of near identical mechanics but differing narrative trappings. For example, leading up to Aredin's discussion with Kerwin you'll notice his action was rolled with Performance instead of Presence. As a consequence of this choice, I had to make his action more of a show or deliberate "act" than a direct force of personality.

That was additionally convenient in hindsight now that Aredin at least is writing that all off as an elaborate ruse to fool spectators that may be twisting poor Kerwin's arm here into business outside his own best interest. Assuming our Scavenger Lord friend becomes a recurring character, I look forward to the slap across the face for possibly slandering his family over some drinks.

Occult will also work for these rolls.
Mercy will have you all covered...don't worry. She also has some occult boosting abilities, not to mention having max intelligence and occult.

Thanks for the explanation! =)

Being a long time 1st Edition White Wolf player, can only agree with your description. It's spot-on!

It is when it seems that the players seem to be attempting to (and forgive me if I'm using this term incorrectly) direct the narrative that I have to go to the Storyteller to figure out what is going on and what is expected of me.

Aredin's monologue to Kerwin is fascinating to me, but for a brain like mine it's also like watching a foreign film - I don't understand half of what's going on but I can tell something exciting is either taking place or building up to take place later! =)

In my White Wolf games of old, both in tabletop and in LARP (but mostly the latter), I have seen players direct the narrative or story in both positive or negative directions.

Here, it seems very positive. Our Storyteller has no problem with what's going on and is even encouraging you to write more. That tells me everything is great! That's where I want to be and want everyone here to be too if you follow my meaning. =)

You're playing Sherwood's Rifts game with me, Psychie, Sherwood, and dear Sil. That game is the kind of play-by-post role-playing I'm used to here. Exalted is a whole 'nother thing and I am finding it to my liking! =)

That might be because it looks like names or places I referenced were something canon or established elsewhere, when they were in fact made up on the spot. This is why I told Psychie to feel free to give me a bonk on the head if I'm taking too many liberties, especially with the implications on a character with motives she has her own imagination and intention behind. While we are explicitly allowed to express some creative license with the declare fact action, that is provided the Storyteller gives the ok. Otherwise, we adjust or discard it.

One of my buddies that introduced me both to tabletop and Exalted once taught me "The first rule of improv is to never say no" and it took me a while to really understand what that means and how to work with it. If I can put forth an idea that's interesting, leverages what was established, and leaves room for further imagination then I feel like I'm in the right ballpark at least.

I was just waiting to see if you were going to try and identify these items here and now, or wait until you were out of harms way and away from the Hunters that are on your tail. Are you guys sure you don't want to run into them?

Just kidding. You made the right call by moving out.

There are a few players here on the site that I feel comfortable letting them have this much leeway, and Rykon is one of them. So are you, my friend. Sherwood and Jaydude are on that list, too. Eonivar and Chowlett are new players to me, but I'm willing to give you guys the benefit of the doubt to see what fun we all can have together. If there is ever a moment that a player stretches their reach a little farther than I am comfortable with, I'll let you guys know and we can reel things back a bit.

And just so everyone knows, I will be tracking your xp awards on the first post of the Character thread, and will let everyone know when you get points awarded.

Starting now. Everyone gets 2 standard xp, and 3 Lunar/Solar xp, both from the quality role playing and from the help that everyone has been giving me in my first game getting everything and everyone ready for our session.

Not on Attributes and Abilities up to 3. Past that and you will have to take a bit of time to work on increasing your rating. Charms can be picked up with minimal time spent, as they are a gift from your divine patron.

I'm going to bank my regular xp, but I'm going to increase my Brawl, Dodge and War ratings from 1 each to 2 with my Solar Xp.

Sounds good. Just as an FYI, I added the training time ruling to the first post of the Character thread so it is official and easily found later on.
