Fantasy Department of Defense Against the Supernatural

This place was full of traps. They were doing good until Galleytrot turned into a large dog

"Cocky, I see." Sam scoffed at his taunt. "Let's hope that your shape-shifting isn't just shape-shifting. For example, that big-ass dog form of yours makes it easier to trigger traps. It goes without saying to watch your steps."

"As for the poltergeist, if it's that much of a problem, I can just exorcise it. With humans merging with all species in harmony, the only work I get these days is those brought in for murder."

It was easy to avoid most the traps in this section. However, they were walking for quite a while, and seemed to be getting nowhere. Sam turned his staff into a gun and shot the wall with a powerful wind bullet. It put a hole in the wall. If they passed the hole again, it'd confirm his suspicion that they were walking in a circle, possibly under a powerful illusion spell

She blushes slightly and rolls her eyes, "He's okay I suppose." She says unconvincibly, "I could ask you the same thing ablut Greyston." She says chuckling playfully. "Thank's Liliana."

She pours the potions into the cooler, and mutters another spell, "Aqua veni foras." The level of water within the cooler rises and she makes a stiring motion with her index finger. The potions swirl together creating another mixture that is surprisingly sweet smelling. "If someone will distribute this to the injured; Piper, Liliana, and I can smudge the building. That is if the two of you don't mind."

Greyston nodded to Luke, he had been keeping an eye on the basilisk, who had been fairly well contained, thanks to Allerios assault with air. "Thank you. Did you hear where the cave is? Because it may be wise to send at least one more out with Galleytrot and your brother... perhaps Lily or Fred? We'll see I suppose. I am inclined to think that the Lich's next attack may be on the current refugees, so why don't we split up and hit each of those places? I think the team hunting the Phylactory is our best shot at taking preemptive action right now."

@Elias @Kylesar1 @Azure Sky

Wednesday's mouth bunched up to the right on her face, then relaxed as she commented, "Mmmm... doesn't seem like a great plan to me."

Liliana nodded, and said. "I don't mind helping."

"Maybe it's not," Bael said reluctantly, then he stood quiet for a minute before suddenly and quiet abruptly moving past her to leave the stairwell. "It makes no difference to me. I might as well put it back for now."

Galleytrot looked at Sam, but wasn't particularly offended. He was a Black Dog. Perhaps it'd be easier to sense traps. He carefully moved forward, nose near the ground the whole time.

Piper shook her head. "Oh, no. Not at all. Greyston's not... Well, I could say I have other people on my mind." She grinned at Fred before moving to help Liliana with the water.

"The act of smudging rids a place of negative energy. It can also draw out negative spirits that have hidden or attached themselves to objects, beings, or places. So we need to be careful just in case we stir one up." She says as she helps distribute the potion to the wounded.

She gives Piper an incredulous look, "And just who might they be?" She asks still continuing to distribute the mixture.

''My arrows are not normal and they can work on anything, regardless of its nature, but archery isn't my only skill. I can support you with buffs, healing and wind magic'' replied Allerio to the kraken. Then he turned to Corin and said: ''To answer your questions vampire: Oberon was a dangerous and powerful individual , he was very manipulative but in the end everything he did helped humanity and his kingdom prospered. Nevertheless he was betrayed. He was actually expecting something like that...once someone uses fear as a control factor it recoils. But what brought him to what he is today is that his wife, the only person he ever loved, was killed in the process. His anger clouded his mind and he became slightly insane. From there on he learned necromancy and researched until he was able to become a lich and obtain a few powerful esoteric items. The Void calmed him down but it didn't give him tranquiity, it only made him merciless and thirsty of revenge. He got his revenge...but only made him empty inside. There is only emptiness and darkness inside his soul and thus destruction is the only thing he can offer to this world. His true reasons are unknown''. Allerio paused for a few seconds and then continued: ''Knowing him it will not take long until he unleashes a high number of powerful undead creatures. We should prepare for the worst. One last thing: even without his undead monsters he is still quite powerful as an individual. Let's see...by modern standards he will survive falling from skysrappers and maybe even bullets from conventional firearms. He is most likely strong enough to lift a car and has pretty much no physical weakness. He can also manipulate poison infused souls and ectoplasm''.

"Wait, if it draws out negative spirits, what'll it do to Bael? I mean, he's definitely a negative spirit and I'm pretty sure he's attached to the lighthouse. And that other ghost girl that's been hanging around?" Piper asked, but when Fred asked about who it might be she was interested, she just sort of shrugged and said, "Oh, he's just around. Not particularly glamorous. Wouldn't think much of him. Well — him aside from the refugees and injured Department members."

William listened carefully to what Allerio was saying about the lich. He seemed quite the formidable foe, even though he didn't prevail in physical strength, he had a lot of power, and the manipulation of poison and souls seemed like a big deal aswell. The Kraken looked at the vigilante, who was sitting before them. So many days, they looked for him, hoping to put him to justice, and now here he was, ready to help them. Agreed, he was their best chance, yet Will still didn't trust him. And anyway, the Oberon thing must have an end, no? After that, they could catch him. He would not get away a second time. Listening, the Kraken waited for Greyston's decision.

Justin was still backing up the wounded, and trying to eavesdrop on the girl's conversation, yet he was a little far away. He would have loved to know if they were talking about him. Maybe they were discussing how cute he was, or how cute he wasn't. Argh, it was torture. Not knowing, if a girl likes you or not. Did they at least think he's funny? Meeting the eyes of the patient he was tending to, the pacient gave him a friendly wink and gestured for the girls. That was a Go talk to them you nipwit. Nodding back to the pacient, he started going towards them, when something flashed before his eyes. ''No. Not here'' he thought to himself. ''Not here. Damn it, heavenly gift!'' he said as the visions started pouring again. Gripping a nearby table slightly, he almost fell to his knees yet kept his control. Images of different eyes in the dark flashed before him, then visions of two people and a large white dog, heading towards a cube looking thing. He heard the vision-induced laugh of a lich, and then a recurring vision, the golden fangs unfolding. (Nod to Golden Brotherhood, yall). Soon, the visions ended and he sat down on a nearby chair. He actually kinda controled himself this once. Was it the struggle of not beeing noticed? Or he was just getting better? Sitting down with a pale face, he quickly grabbed a pen and scribbled the details of his visions down a paper.

"Right, Well, if he intends to pull from graveyards, those have been fortified and will take awhile for any undead to escape- hopefully. We'll also be alerted if anything happens at Arlington or Washington Cathedral- those would be the most likely targets- but theres not exactly a shortage of dead around D.C." Greyston sighed. "I wonder if we could... hmm." Greyston stopped that train of thought and glanced to the sky. The moon was on its way down, and they only had a few hours until the sun showed up again. "Lets see if we can stop him before I loose my edge." He said, "Where would a creature of darkness and distraction hide in D.C.? The Capitol Building?" he shook his head, now was not the time for jokes.

Wednesday looked at Bael, and nodded, "Well, if you think of a better plan, let me know. I may help out if it seems interesting enough."

Justin's sudden need to sit, and write, did not go unnoticed by Liliana. She moved to his side and asked, "Angel problems?" She asked. She knew that some angelic offspring were able to get visions- others were just cursed with terrible migraines.

"Drawing out in this instance means bringing them out of hiding, but if you're worried then we could put them somewhere the smoke wont reach..." shes about to say more but when she sees the strained look on Justin's face and Liliana going over to check on him she excuses herself to see about him as well.

Walking over quickly she asks him, "Whata wrong are you hurt?" Sher voice sincere in its concern. She turns to Liliana, "Do you know whats happened?"

Allerio suddenly felt an unnatural chill. ''I don't think it's necessary to look for him...Because it seems he is looking for us'' he said. Silence fell for a few seconds until explosions and screams were heared from everywhere within the city. High numbers of different types of undead invaded DC. Some were powerful warriors, some were sorcerers which controlled various elements and some were monsters. An undead sorcerer suddenly released a huge outburst of purple electricity while the rest of the creatures were running wild, especially undead ice dragons which unleashed frost breaths upon the city.

Meanwhile Oberon and Penumbra were sitting on top of a skyscrapper at the center of the city. Oberon continuously released poisonous gas while Penumbra released dark mist which made people see the illusion of their worst nightmare. But the hybrid didn't stop there. Black spears fell from the sky and on ground creatures made darkness attacked left and right, devouring everything in their path.

Lu Bu also materialized and he started attacking the Department's headquarters with the fiery Vendetta spear.

Piper was immediately fighting, walking out the door and already attacking Lu Bu. She wondered how long they'd have to hold out for Galleytrot and the Arch Bishop — and dimly, she wondered if they'd make it that long. Sander sighed heavily, extremely irritated by the forces of the dead. He went to the equipment stash and armed himself to the teeth, including various bullets of various substances. He sat at a window, carefully picking off targets.

Bael looked around, realizing what was happening. He groaned out loud, and dismissed himself from Wednesday's presence. He looked out the window and then 'jumped' down to help. Now he was fighting almost solely in anger and utter irritation – the sort of emotion you feel when an enemy won't quit respawning and makes it really difficult to do what you're trying to get accomplished.

Of course that parallel was lost on Bael, being that he had never seen a video game before and likely never seen a tv before he was taken to HQ.

Either way, the result was him cutting through shadowy mooks like paper bags.

Justin was preparing to answer both girls, but then the incident happened. and the spawns of undead, hellish abominations, frost dragons and shadow beings started to pour upon the world. Frankly, he was quite shocked. He has never seen something like this in his life. He watched the Yog-Dagor fight happen on TV months ago, and that seemed pretty cosmic, so what was happening now was....indeed, hell on earth. Still shocked, he assured the girls he was ok for now, then made his way outside. From the sky, a few metres away from him, a black substance in the shape of a spear fell aside him. The spear soon morphed into a hideous creature made of shadows, with glowy red eyes and hideous crooked smile. Reaching it's hand, it reached for him, but Justin backed away and entered the Department again.

''We need to fight'' he said as he headed for the girls.''The whole damn city is an episode of It's Raining Again, just with shadowy monsters, instead'' he said. ''Leaving jokes aside, we're going to need some really powerful white magic....''

(I'm still waiting for Greyston to mobilize as Will is with him, so for now Will is there)

Lu Bu started unleashing a high number of lethal strikes with his esoteric spear towards Piper. As soon as the edge of the spear's blade would connect to something it would generate a very hot outburst of flames (3000 °C). Meanwhile the other undead destroyed the city and killed people in various gruesome ways. Penumbra's ''worst-nightmare-illusion-inducing'' dark mist was spreading at high speed.

@KattRai

Piper managed to keep out of the way and, backing up, was on her Bluetooth. "Greyston, I need you here right now. The basilisk is the least of our worries. We have things attacking everywhere." She noticed Bael fighting the the shadows and, double-taking slightly, she was momentarily distracted by him. "Bael!" She yelled.

He actually turned to her, looking for a moment before finding her and locking into her. "What do you want?" He shouted back.

"Can you find the source of this? It might be a stretch but I wondered if you-"

"Why should I?" He called.

Piper ducked away from another attack and yelled, "Because you weren't the only one to have a sister!"

He stared at her, silent for a long moment, and then he was gone.

He was jumping through the city now, shredding through shadow mooks and looking for Penumbra. He found himself considering what Piper said and, with a grimace he went to attack again. There was a slight flash, and Bael looked up, distracted momentarily. He failed to find the source and moved on.

Justin rushed into the room where they kept the weapons and glanced around for anything remotely holy or at least light-based. The creatures were mostly undead and shadows, so something like that should repell them. Glancing around the holy/light weapons corner he took a look: Light infused bows, weapons drenched in holy water, the Horn of Truth of the archangel Gabriel. No these won't quite do...He needed something more powerful. With more brute strength. Glancing around, his eyes fell on an lightblade, a rather pure blade that the Department got when they helped some light beings years ago. That would do it. Grabbing it by the tilt, Justin went and armored himself and then placed the blade on the table. He was intending to bless it so it would do more damage against the shadows. He wasn't sure about the dragons and such, but a blessing against shadows was going to be useful. He wasn't a witch or warlock, but a few blessings and charms he knew. As he placed his hands upon the sword, he poured holy water on it and began the enchantment.

Mucronis lux quatiunt hostibus meis et repelléndas umbris habitare contra nos. Ut inmortuos ad lapsum. Angeli benedicam tibi. he said as he finished his encahntment and raised the sword. Opening the door, he was planning to run ahead, yet something sparkled in his mind, and he chose to slide towards Piper. @Sleipnir

''Pip!'' he yelled as he showed her the sword. ''Take it. It's blessed to do more damage'' he said as he ran to tackle the monsters.

Piper looked up instinctively at the nickname and took the blade. She wouldn't be great with it - she hadn't trained swords much and was more useful with guns. She looked up at the window where Wvans was shooting off bullets. They were his personal favorite kind - also blessed.

Kicking left and right, Justin tackled a few undead and managed to actually kill one of them, but they seemed to be swarming out of nowhere. More of the black spears were falling, and shadowspawn were pouring everywhere. Suddenly, he inhaled a inhuman odor, something black entered his nostrils and soon he wasn't thinking clearly, sprawling left and right. Eventually gaining his concioussness, he looked around for Piper but he couldn't see her. He could only see darkness. Penumbra's nightmare dust was working well on him, and eventually in the abyss of shadows he saw a being heading for him. A big tall being not made of shadows, as you would suspect someone's nightmare to be, but glowing with light. He had three sets of wings on each side, and he was so bright that you could feel your eyes almost burning. Falling to his knees, Justin saw his worst nightmare. An archangel. Sent to kill him. He had blood on all of his wings and a victorious smile. Raising his archangel sword, he slashed for Justin and everything went blacked.

He found himself, moments after, curled on the sidewalk, glancing around. Piper was still fighting Lu Bu so this was definitely real life. The archangel wasn't everywhere to be seen, yet Justin started seeing other things. Weird, twisted, horror hallucinations everywhere he looked. His eyes started glowing wildly, as he spinned around in the madness of his own mind.

Piper kept doing her best to avoid, lucky to not be hit. She kept looking over at Justin, yelling at him and trying to get his attention. She kept backing up, forced to retreat. She noticed the smoke and began retreating more quickly, panicking suddenly and feeling a touch overwhelmed.

(I don't know what her fear is ;- ;)

"Best I have is elemental infused weapons." Liliana said, heading outside as well. Noticing the ice dragon in the distance she found herself missing Scath. If he were here they could take down that thing together. She thought, assessing who she may fair best against. "Right, Undead are generally weak to their opposite element, I'm going to go find the thing causing all of the screams. And hopefully not get skewered by the lances." She said, watching the rain change outside. She glanced around to see if anyone was coming with her, and took off towards the one spewing lightning, she pulled from her arsenal her sword made from wind, another gift from the 'gods' and charged fairly headlong into battle. She leapt over the electrical field with an impressive amount of airtime for a normal human, and brought the sword down hard, trying to cut into his shoulder. It was about this time that he gas began effecting her. She blinked the images away, trying to focus on the fight at hand.

Wednesday and Caden too saw what was happening outside. Having been trained to hunt the dead rather than the living, caden found herself wondering out to face Lu Bu. "Caden, No! Stop! He'll kill you!" Wednesday called to her zombie. For once she sounded actually worried, as though she cared for what she assumed was her brainless body. Wednesday herself was much more adept at healing than fighting, but she was good enough to be able to use her telekinesis to be able to keep the shadow weapons from falling on those around her overhead. Seeing the ice dragon over head she wondered about something, and assumed this could be the best way to help and save her zombie body. She flew as fast as she could, utilizing her short range teleportation to the dragon of ice. Their guiding elements seemed to be similar, so she tried to possess the ice dragon, and take his body for her own. She'd never tried this before, and it became a battle of spirits within the dragon.

Greyston looked around and responded to Piper, "Yes, thank you, I can see that. Someone needs to get to where the majority of the people are, force the undead away from them and towards somewhere safer to fight. Will, think you can do something about these dragons? Allerio, I don't have much access to light or holy magics, clearly. Think you can help clear out these shadows?" Now the gas was hitting him, and death was in his mind, nearly consuming. He stopped breathing, an hopped that would make it effect him less. Being dead already he didn't need to breath nearly as often as he did. He shook his head and said, "No, don't worry about these shadows. Find and kill whatever is making them. We'll focus on what's here. I'm off to serve and protect." He turned, and headed towards where the people were, He couldn't reach the dragon, and the fire was too dangerous for him. He was confident he could control himself around people, even if the gas started effecting him again. Greyston made quick work of two strong undead generals assaulting the main area where people had been sent, then noticed Liliana and the lightning man. He let his claws out, and prepared to help out.

Will nodded as he heard Greyston's order. ''Of course'' he said altough he didn't know how well he would cope against undead dragons. The nightmare inducing dust didn't seem to affect him much. He was a Leviathan. There weren't many things in this world that he feared. Leviathans had quite hollow souls, so less of a soul, meaned less frights for them. Changing into his half form, tentacles ready, skin brownish, red eyes and claws, he climbed a car and took a giant leap from there, aiming for a nearby dragon. Reaching it, he grabbed his wings and pulled hoping to break them from the bone, so the dragon would shatter down. Yet, the being was smarter than that, and it started to pound itself on numerous buildings hoping to throw William down.

(Gonna reply a little more rarely at the moment, I am watching Game of Thrones xD )

Meanwhile, once through the portal Galley trot and Luke found themselves in tunnels of stone, there were paths straight ahead, and branches that wove off to the left and right frequently. In their immediate location there didn't seem to be any present threat, however the magical energy of the place was nearly overwhelming, and heavy footfalls could be heard echoing throughout the stoney halls. The ceiling over head was low, and immediately discouraged any ideas of standing up straight, as they only stood at the height of 5'5", or 165 cm. Clearly these halls were made for a shorter people- or perhaps an older people.

@Sleipnir @Kylesar1

Piper kept looking between Lu Bu and Justin. She screamed his name again but couldn't tell what was happening to him from where she stood. She feared the worst from the gas and, aiming a strike of the holy blade against Lu Bu's arm, she felt she had to cut her losses and, shaking, she retreated to the HQ. she stood for a moment, staring at the floor.

Evans was still shooting away, getting at Lu Bu with the light-enchanted bullets in hope of them having more effect than normal ones.

Bael, meanwhile, had gotten closer to the scraper where Penumbra and Oberon stood. He looked around, realizing the smoke was closing on him. He'd been upwind of it and now showed very little concern. What harm could it do to the dead? A women crashed to the ground near him, looked up and noticed him. Bael stood back, slightly surprised. She didn't seem to realize he was a poltergeist and said, "Don't go in! Don't go in! The smoke - the things you see in the smoke..." She broke down sobbing. Bael frowned, looking a bit taken aback by this. "It knows your fears," she sobbed.

He looked at it. "Well... You can't scare something that's seen the worst of it," he insisted, and teleported away. He was certain whatever was causing this was near now, and he was able to hold out in the smoke for quite awhile.

Then here was the voice.

"Julius?" Bael froze. In his chest was an unmistakable pounding; something he hadn't felt in so long... He turned, slowly, to see nearby was a young girl. Maybe fourteen. Long brown hair and bright blue eyes.

He dropped to his knees before her, smiling for the first time since her death. "...Annabel."

Justin eventually managed to crawl inside the Department HQ, miracoulsly evading Lu Bu and not getting his body cut off. Crashing on a nearby chair, he looked around the Department, at the wounded Piper, Winnifred and all the other agents who were trying to stop the chaos from unfolding. Putting two fingers on his forehead, he recited a enchantment for repelling the hallucinations.

Custodi me a vera quae non sunt , video tamen he recited, as he felt a wave of freedom riot through his head. The hallucinations were soon gone, yet he knew that if he went outside again, they would surely come back.

Meanwhile, William was pounding with all his strength on the fleshy bones of the dragon. It had tried to shake him off numerous times, but seeing it can't was now attempting to pierce him with it's bony tail. But William, wasn't just staying. Grabbing the dragon's bony skull head with all his tentacles and his claws, he roared as he steared the dragon's head, downwards, making them both crash in a spiral of white dust and bones.

Piper made her way to Justin immediately. She looked him over and looked frantic. "Are you okay? What happened? What was that?" She asked, looking deeply worried. She felt terrible for having to leave him out there. "I'm sorry."

Bael hugged his sister, eyes closed. He didn't bother registering the damage around him. Not here. Not now. Annabel hugged him back, then pushed away and looked him in the eye. She looked almost afraid. "...Annie, what's wrong?" He asked quietly.
