Kain was going to smack Eric when he got back. "We're working on it" He said. "Things are slowly getting better" He added. "Just send the food along" Kain finished, hanging up. "Sorry about that. I trust Eric and Jay to care for our clan until such time that we are ready to return" He said, turning towards the microwave which had gone off. He busied himself fixing up the bowls before bringing them over.
-
Jay nodded and just sat, pushed against the headboard and waited for the phone call to be over.

Astrid frowned but didn’t argue her taking the popcorn and snuggled up in the blanket

Eric frowned when he hung up on him and just blinked, Kain had never hung up on him before and seemed to mean it. He knew it wasn’t personal but with everything going on he took it that way and his eyes failed to hid the disappointment. Everything had been so different since Kain found his mate, he didn’t feel like a best friend anymore

Kain settled on the couch, bucket in hand as he put on a movie.
-
Jay came off the bed, feeling the disappointment through the bond. "Hey, you okay?" She asked, walking over to him.

Astrid held her bucket snuggling in the blanket happily but watched Kain “are you annoyed with Eric..? I’ve never seen you end a conversation so abruptly…”

Eric nodded softly “ya… I’ve just never had him hang up we’ve always chatted.. I know he has a lot going on but I feel shut out..”

Kain shook his head, looking over at Astrid. "No, I'm not, I just, I don't know. I'm trying to keep communication from the castle out. This is supposed to be for us. I'll talk to him when we get back" He said, knowing he'd have to apologize. Right now, all he was concerned about was fixing this between them.
-
Jay sighed, bringing her arms around him in a hug. "I'm sure he didn't mean it, when he comes back you guys can talk. I know they are both under a lot right now, but hey, Focus here on me and our clan. I still need to pack up the rest of my stuff and bring it to our room" She said, looking up at him, trying to redirect his attention.

Astrid frowned “Kain you’ve got to take a breather… he’s your best friend I’m sure he’s worried about you too..”

Eric looked down at her with a soft smile as she wrapped his arms around his body “well let’s go fix that then…” it was pretty easy to see though that while he had a tough, outgoing, and playful personality behind closed doors he almost seemed to see the worst possibility in things and was always reading into things. He just smiled at her when she said -our room- his playful mood returning.

Kain pinched his nose as he set the popcorn down. "I know, I just, I don't know how to fix this and its not helping me settle either." He looked at her. "I promise I'll talk with him, I will." He told her.
-
Jay smiled, looking up at her mate. She could see her job was to pull him back from his thoughts and she'd do it every day. "Sounds good to me" She said with a laugh, seeing his playful mood coming back.

Astrid looked at him “Kain look at me. You’ve already gotten my wolf back it’s just going to take time…” She wanted so desperately to curl up in his lap that it hurt but decided to grab one of the pillows and lay it in his lap using it and it seemed to make her content for now.

-

Eric chuckled softly and opened his door “lead the way Jay.” He just smiled softly thankful she could so easily pull him from his negativity

He did look at her, his eyes betrayed his worry and fear. "I know, and I think that's the worst part. Its not a quick fix." He said softly. He watched as she set a pillow on his lap and laid on it. He wanted to touch her but he couldn't. He tucked his hands under the blanket he'd thrown over himself and sighed.
-
Jay smiled, taking Eric's hand and led the way out of the castle and headed towards the border. "I don't have a lot of things, so it won't be much" Jay said with a smile, walking beside him.

Astrid looked up at him “Kain no one knows what was going to happen… this is uncharted territory..” she shifted to face him laying a hand on his arm trying to ignore the discomfort “maybe it’s like my wolf we need to force it..”

-

Eric walked beside her with a soft hum “even if you did I’d bring whatever you wished for.”

Kain looked at her, before feeling her hand on his arm. "I know, I think that's what really confuses me" He felt the discomfort. "Try small touches each day?" He asked, looking at her.
-
Jay smiled, looking at him, as they walked over the border. "Is that so?" She said with a laugh.

Hey!! It’s back again!

Astrid looked up at him “maybe it’s if we are strong enough to over come what is trying to pull us apart…?” She just snuggled into him, the pillow keeping the worst of the discomfort away.

Eric chuckled “of course even if it took me a dozen trips for you.” He cautiously followed her across the border though

(Yay!)

Kain thought about it. Maybe she was right. But what if it just tore them apart further? "Maybe. What if it makes it worse?" He asked, he always had a habit of over thinking, especially when he was stressed.
---
Jay noticed the cautious step over the border. "Good to hear it. You're okay by the way." She said as she looked at him.

Astrid looked up at him “we won’t know unless we try Kain…. We’ve made progress..”

-

Eric looked at her “it just feels like crossing uninvited…” He walked beside her as they headed into the pack house.

Kain was still hesitant. It would take a miracle for him to agree. He didn't want to hurt her or damage their bond further than it was. "I know, I just don't want to hurt you or our bond more" Kain said, looking at her.
--
She nodded understanding. She'd felt that way the first few time's she had crossed the border. Walking into the pack house, she led the way up to her room. Opening the door, she grabbed her second suitcase and loaded the rest of her clothes along with some little trinkets she had accumulated over the years. "I think I have everything" She said, zipping up her suitcase. She didn't have a lot, but the rest of it had fit inside the one suitcase.

Astrid sighed but just dropped the conversation and directed her attention to the movie and her popcorn. His lack of being will to try and work on things was really frustrating her

—-

Ryan was pacing his office silently, his wolf was getting more on edge and unlike other pack members he couldn’t just spend a night in the forest trying to tire him out.

—-

Eric smiled softly and picked up both suitcases “you sure? I don’t mind carrying anything else you’d have..” He’d just been sitting on the bed watching her carrying things in an order not wanting to mess it up.

Kain knew this conversation wasn't finished. The temptation to touch her was still on the forefront of his mind.
--
She smiled over at him. "I'm sure. I didn't have a lot of stuff" She told him. "I'm going to let Alpha Ryan know I'm headed out for the last time. I'll meet you outside?" She asked, kissing his cheek gently.

Astrid just shifted so her back was to him so she could watch the movie and just sighed playing with the hem of the blanket.

Eric nodded softly and headed out carrying her suitcases and waiting for her return

-

Ryan looked up hearing Jay’s voice looking like he’d been busy with paperwork “come in.”

Kain sighed, seeing her turn her back to him. Great He thought, way to go He focused on the movie. He didn't know what to say, was there anything he could say other than let me hold you until this is fixed.
--
Jay stepped in. "Alpha. I've come to grab my things. I've accepted the mate bond and mark of Eric." She told him. She would miss this place, but her new place was at his side, in the castle. There was so much she wanted to say, but what could she say safely. "I am grateful to you for being a great Alpha. I will miss you and the rest of the pack" She said, looking at him.

Astrid just watched the movie for a while before growing tired and dozed off in his lap

-
Ryan looked at her with a sigh and dipped his head “I had a feeling that would happen. I am happy for you Jay, there are still meetings so this isn’t good bye…” He looked tired though like he’d been pacing for a while in a this room just trying to contain his wolf who was trying to hunt down his mate.

Kain had the urge run his fingers through her hair, but kept his hands under the blanket still. He watched as she dozed off. His own eyes felt heavy and he leaned his head back on the couch.
-
Jay nodded, knowing they'd see each other again. "Thank you. I will see you at the next meeting?" She asked. She wanted to ask about the tired look in his eyes, but she knew better. Hopefully soon he'll find his mate.

Astrid just shifted attempting to snuggle against him more as she slept heavily

-

Ryan nodded “someone has to lead the pack there.” He sighed softly but smiled softly “good have a good evening Jay.”

Kain woke for a quarter of a second when Astrid tried to snuggle closer. He sighed sadly as he closed his eyes again.
-
Jay dipped her head in respect but a smile on her face. "Have a good evening Alpha" She said, before walking out of his office and down stairs, stepping out into the fresh air. She made her way to Eric, bringing herself to his side naturally. "I'm ready to go" She said, looking at him.

Astrid slept curling up against him though the blanket kept them from actually touching

-

Eric looked down at her tucking her in close “is everything alright..?”

Kain was quite content where he was.
-
Jay looked up at him. "Yeah, everything is perfect." She said, ready to head back to their room in the castle. She took his hand and started the walk back.
