Fantasy The Pack

Laikas sighed and let out a low growl, the tensions were rising a bit too high in the cave and he'd decided he didn't want to be around for when that tension eventually boiled over. Standing and grabbing the bag in his mouth, Laikas padded outside into the night cold air. He ruffled his pelt slightly, shaking out his fur, before padding further into the forest below. It was a beautiful night; it was snowing ever so lightly, but the moon was still visible on its velvet black background. If they weren't being hunted down Laikas may have howled ät the moon but, alas, they were.

As he was padding along, a strange scent caught his senses and, ever curious, he padded forwards, wanting to investigate the smell. It only took him a few moments to realize that the scent was that of blood, of another shifter's to be exact and Laikas picked up the pace. Laikas eventually slowed to a stop after a few minutes of running. The scent of blood was almost overwhelming and he continued forward until he found her. The wounded shifter was a girl, about his age. Laikas was dumbfounded at first, in his eyes she was beautiful, but he quickly regained his senses. He padded forwards studying her slightly, laying the bag down in the snow. She had been quite seriously injured, but maybe she could walk with Laikas' support.

He walked up to her slowly and put his head in front of her's, "
Don't be alarmed. I am like you, a shifter. My pack isn't too far from here and there's a healer that will be willing to help you" He paused for a moment, "My name's Laikas. Can you walk at all?"

@Cyber Wolf

Aaymi shivered inside the building. The glass panes had since been removed, some even broken. She could still hardly walk so she decided to crawl into another room to see if it was warmer. It was difficult to even crawl without opening another wound. It was clear that she had lost a lot of blood, her human face was pretty pale and her strength was weak. The bandage she had tied around her neck was already filled with blood once more.

The amount of energy it took for her to crawl was too much for her and she just didn't have it in her so she laid on the floor in one of the hallways as she drifted into unconciousness again. Her pale figure laid in the hallway spread out alongside the wall. Her breathing was slow as she struggled to breathe properly.

Victor had sprinted off away from Maya, feeling embarrassed for not watching where he was going. His foot had seemed to heal up just fine. It had only been a little but deep cut. "Watch where you are going you fool. Next time it could end up being the government and the pack needs you," he told himself sternly.

It hadn't taken him too long to come across the building that Aaymi was in. Cautiously, Victor approached the building seeing a few blood streaks across the floor. After following the first streak and seeing nothing there he followed the other one only to see the pale girl laying on the floor. Victor move up against the far wall in the next room and sunk down against the wall as he watched the girl. Since he didn't know her, he kept his distance.

Alexis flinches as a male shoves his face in front of her, she would have screamed, yet she was too weak. He speaks softly, and she feels her cheeks become warm in a blush. She must look weak, she was normally weak.. she hated being seen that way..

She sighs softly, her soft face was smeared with blood, "M-my ankle.. is badly injured.." It was indeed injured. Her ankle was severely bruised, and had deep fang inflicted wounds.

The slender female attempt to stand, yet it ravaged with agony and she groans in oain, gritting her teeth. Favoring her injured ankle heavily, as blood drips from her wounds and onto the snow.

Merely getting up made her lightheaded, and nauseous. "I-I'm Alexis..." She whispers softly. Her voice was small, and trembles with fear and pain.

With most of the pack out and about, the cave had settled into silence. There were a few whispers here and there, the lusty snore of a resting pack mate, but mostly it was quiet and immeasurably calm. It was easy in those few moments to forget the keen ripple of distrust and anger that pervaded the pack following the attack. So easy to forget that only a few days ago that ripple had been one of hope and purpose - a unity that looked unbreakable in the face of all the odds.

But that was before the black coats had come. Before the restlessness that came with continuous hiding and lack of action set in. Before Allie had departed this world and left him with nothing but the faintest hint of a now impossible promise behind.

Turning his gaze from the dead-looking forest below, the now humanized Garrett lifted his hand and rubbed his face abrasively to try to chase the tumultuous thoughts away. But try as he might to avoid them, Landon's scathing words came back to him again and again, leading him to consider what might have happened if he had not given into his cabin fever and gone off scouting just to have something to do. He had no doubts that his presence at the cabin could have made a difference. From the very beginning, he had had a feeling of ill-ease about it and had complained about it's lack of security. He had gone unheeded in the end, but if he had been there things might have truly been different.

And that tore him up inside more than anything else the other guard had done. The rest of it - the untrue accusations of being a traitor, the failed murder attempt, the incessant bullying of other pack members out of paranoia - held no weight with Garrett. Just the last snide word that Allie's death was preventable and that everything that had happened since had been his fault.

It was about that time that Garrett realized that he had not looked at her once upon hearing that she was dead. Steeling himself internally, the guard shot one last look towards the calm forest below and got up from his spot to prowl deeper into the cave. He tread noiselessly and carefully around the sleeping bodies until he at last approached the spot where Nate was laying. He eyed the Alpha warily but soon looked past him to where she'd been put down until the burial. There was a faint scent of blood about her, but other than that it was exactly how he remembered her. If he hadn't known she was well and truly dead ... he might've mistaken her for being asleep. He got onto his knees and cautiously reached for her hand. It was as cold as the rocks around them.

His jaw clenched.

Too late ... too late.

He wanted to say something, but he was no good with words. And what could he even say to make things alright? Things weren't alright ... and right now, they felt like they'd never be alright again. But he took a stab at it nonetheless:

"
I guess you were right in the end ... after all. I was the stupid one. But I won't let it end this way. Not yet."

We'll all be free soon ... just as you and Nate wanted.

Sasha made sure the ram didn't spill too much blood and dragged it so that it covered her own tracks in case the government tried to send tracking dogs after them "Surely this will win some happiness no starving this way...would try and find Nicolas body but the government might have taken him hmm would be awful to be a cyborg alive but will less." she muttered a little more until she could see the cave enterance dragging the fresh cold ram into the cave she dropped it and took both hares that she left before into the corner she made herself at home in before,she ate the hares and went into human form,she was much warmer now with her clothing

With the exchanging of words, growling, and snarling it hadn't taken too long for Tyson to wake. The canine pulled his head out lazily from the ball he was curled into and glanced around before laying it on a nearby stone. His ears stayed perked up as he listened, but his eyes slowly closed. The teen wasn't a big fan of what he was hearing, the alpha wanted to take the fight to them? That's not what they escaped for, or rather that's not what Tyson had escaped for.

Tyson wanted to be free, to try and live whatever kind of life he could. And while the government chasing and hunting them was making it difficult and would continue to...he wanted to try. Try to find a place beyond their influence, where maybe they could live happily. The government had made them all into weapons, and Ty wasn't interested in continuing on that road. They broke out to be free, and to Tyson freedom meant turning his back on what they wanted him to be, it meant being who he wanted to be. That was someone who didn't enjoy ripping out throats, while under orders or not.

It was uncomfortable, lying there in the midst of what was happening but he couldn't bring himself to speak up. And at the same time he couldn't bring himself to get up and leave the cave either. Staying and listening was all that was left for the time being, until both Garrett and Landon we're going at it again, and the tension was rising once again. Ty tried ignoring it all but found it to difficult, hesitating he nearly shouted for them to stop being children, but hadn't. When the Hyena spoke up of eating another of the pack he shivered at the thought, and honestly couldn't tell if she was being serious or not.

@CavePeople

The white wolf ruffled his fur slightly and glanced at her slowly before he gave her a bit of space. He glanced down at her ankle and sighed, she definitely wouldn't be able to walk by herself and with the loss of Allie another addition to the pack wouldn't hurt would it? Laikas studied her and sighed and as she struggled to stand Laikas immediately felt sorry for her. The white wolf let out an annoyed growl and glanced at her, "Excuse me one moment Alexis, just turn away quickly please. I'm going shift back and I don't really enjoy people watching me do it."

After waiting for a response, Laikas turned away from the girl and raised his head, willing himself to shift back to his human form. It took a moment before he felt his spine crack back into place, causing him to yelp slightly. His paws elongated into fingers and his fur started to shrink back into his skin as his teeth started to dull. His transformations were always painful; he had been one of the first to be experimented on by the government and they hadn't quite perfected the shifting at the time. It had taken about forty seconds for him to change back to his human form. He had placed his clothes in his new bag and quickly put them on, glancing back at the girl, "Sorry, shifting is always a bit awkward for me. Give me your arm."

Alexis blushed as the wolf growls, and she obediently turns away. She hears his yell, and understands that his shifting must be painful. She looks toward him again, noting his rather handsome features "That's alright.." gently sliding her arm over his shoulder, she winces slightly, and looks toward the snow-covered ground. "Thank you.." She says quietly, she was nearly weightless, and quite skinny. Her ribs were slightly prominent, as she was tad malnourished.

@Baconhands

Laikas offered Alexis a reassuring smile, "We need to look after our own; the humans won't care and the government has betrayed us. All we have left are ourselves." He started leading her back to the den and looked her in the eye, suddenly curious about her past and how she came to be so horrendously injured. Laikas looked forward before he glanced back at her, "You don't have to answer this next question if you don't want to, but I'm curious, how'd you get out here by yourself? I'd heard that the government had cracked down once my pack had left, how'd you get out here on your own?"

He tilted his head, knowledge is power, that's what Laikas believed, the more he knew about anyone the more power he had. She was pretty, yes, but she was no exception to Laikas' philosophy in life, which was why he had asked the question in the first place. In addition he didn't really want to be in his human form for too long but he thought he might have to occupy himself with something while he was in this form.

@Cyber Wolf

Alexis blushes softly as he offers a reassuring smile to her. "They did." She looks toward the ground. "I was placed in a facility with hundreds of other shifters, I was often teased for being smaller than them." She sighs. "Then I met another female. Her name was Luna, and she helped me. She basically parented me. The government began to condition us, and make clones. I haven't seen clones of you, yet I'm sure there were clones of several of your packmates. They tried to get us to kill the clones, telling us to associate those faces with danger. Those who disobeyed were killed on sight." She looks toward the ground as she limps along side him. The scent of other shifters growing stronger. "That's when Luna told me that we were going to escape. She was a type of guard, and had patrolled and memorized every turn that led to a weak spot in the facility. She got me out. Yet she wasn't as lucky. She died before she could make it under the gate. " Her eyes are mourning, sorrowful. "She told me to follow the moon, and that I'd find what I need to find. That's how I ended up here. Yet when I caught scent of your pack, I missed the scent of those.. dogs.. The mechanical ones. There was only one, and a soldier in black armor. They didn't shoot me, yet watched the dog attack me. I guess they thought i was dead." She chuckles softly. "I'm not that easy to kill, I guess." She looks toward Laikas. Her deep blue eyes were mysterious, almost hyhypnotic, and gorgeous.

Laikas chuckled slightly, "I guess you are. You've done well to get out here by yourself Alexis, it's quite impressive." He tilted his head slightly; the government was making clones so the new shifters got used to killing them? That was a new level that Laikas couldn't quite apprehend. Stranger to hear was that Laikas had not been cloned at all, likely because he was one of the first to be turned and he may been considered a weaker target by the government. He raised an eyebrow and looked at her, "I'm sorry to hear about your friend, Alexis, I too have lost someone close to me because of what the government has done to us. But I believe I may be able to offer you sanctuary within my pack. At the very least I can get that wound looked at by our medic."

There was a strange mystery to her eyes, but he didn't let himself get drawn in; if she died it would just hurt more if he was attached to her. He sighed, his eyes following the ground again, "I should introduce you to Nate," he said, his new bag slung over his right shoulder, "But he's been a bit on edge since his sister died." He noted the cave mouth in the distance, "Be honest with them, show them you're not a threat and you'll be fine. I'll leave you at the cave entrance; I've got to shift back, being in this form for a long time feels unnatural." He shook his head, "Probably something the government did to me."

He awaited a response before he led her to the cave entrance.

(Last post for the night from me, I'll let some of the others post before I post again)

Sasha heard Laikas say a few things and looked seeing the two in the cave enterance,she looked at the others "Do you know her?" she didn't smell farmiliar to Sasha but she was in her human form so her senses were nulled anyway she.Sasha grabbed the ram by a horn dragging it towards herself thinking if she was a scavenger she would have to settle for scraps,she whimpered and let out a nervous whine and saw it was Laikas who brought her to the cave,she muttered to herself "What isss he doing what if she is a ssspy..." Sasha buried herself into the shadows slightly not letting her eyes of the girl

Alexis narrowed her icy blue gaze on Sasha, despite her blending in the shadows, did little to hide her from the newly created shifter. Their senses were more keen, and stronger than the elder shifters. "If I was a spy, deary. You'd all be dead." Her voice took on a chilled tone, not threatening, nor dominant. Yet clear. "Those 'spys' you speak of, have no control, and will kill on sight. I'm just an escaped shifter. Like you all." Her gaze scans the cave, as others begin to wake up and watch her.

Nate opens his eyes slowly, his gaze narrows sternly on Garrett. He doesn't growl, or attack the other male who was incredibly close to his sibling.

He slowly turns his head toward Alexis. "Where have you come from?" He asks, slowly sitting up and shaking out his heavy pelt.

Sasha gnawed on her hand and growled at the newcomer and moved the ram back to the middle of the cave in case this new shifter were hungry then swiftly retreated back into her corner "They made more...I knew they would so new shifters and robot wolves fantastic,I should steal cans of food and live underground surely not worth looking for me would be a lot of trouble...they haven't learned their lesson though with making more what next cat shifters,lizards,birds!" Sasha was muttering to herself and rocking and giggling "Oh no they wouldn't just leave us alone if they have stronger new blood we're harmless they can defend if we tried anything but no they need to go on a manhunt,always knew the government was corrupt full of power hungry people always has been." Sasha continued more muttering but it was gibberish to them

Victor slowly got up after having watched the girl for a few hours. Cautiously approaching her, it seemed as if she had been asleep for awhile and in a deep one at that. His paw lightly pushing her to see if she would awaken and when she didn't he went around the building to find something to tie her up with just in case she was the red furred wolf that had fought with Nate earlier. It took quite some time to find anything but he did manage to find some old chains that he dusted off.

He shifted rather quickly into his human form and grabbed the chains before rushing down the stairs. He let out a sigh of relief as the girl still seemed to be asleep. It didn't take him long to move her over to a built in radiator and chain her to that. He didn't bother to stand close to her so he shifted back and resumed his position in the corner and watched silently. He wasn't going to get attacked by this one that was for sure.

The private moment he was sharing was shattered in an instant.

The quiet that had descended over his exhausted pack mates broke and stirred the guard from his thoughts. His eyes flickered from Allie’s glassy blues to land upon the lip of the cave where the sound of voices echoed just loud enough to catch his attention. He might’ve gone to check it out right then, but there came a ripple of movement behind him as Nate himself got up to check. With a gruff sigh, Garrett laid her hand on top of her body and strode out just behind the leader to check out the current events.

At first, he assumed Laikas had done something for he recognized the nearly white-blonde hair in the middle of a slowly growing crowd. But as he drew near and settled in behind Nate, he spotted a young looking female who looked as though she’d been attacked; it occurred to him only after picking up a few bits of her voice that he had never seen her before.

If I was a spy, deary. You'd all be dead. Those 'spys' you speak of, have no control, and will kill on sight. I'm just an escaped shifter. Like you all.

Having knowledge of what she was speaking about directly, Garrett narrowed his eyes. He disagreed with her assessment vehemently … but he wasn’t feeling much up to speaking ... especially on a matter of professional semantics. His sulky mood since finding out Allie was dead had not improved in the slightest. His only action that portrayed this disagreement was to scowl and look side long at Nate. Otherwise, he would look back towards the girl ... and the giggling, rambling Sasha (albeit more bemused than curious) and waited for the word.

In his anger, he had run too far. Not far enough to become lost - but it probably had not been a good idea to leave a miles-long track behind for anyone else to find. At least the falling snow probably would cover it as good as all the other hints on the pack’s position within the next few hours. And they most likely would not stay long in that cave, thinking of how close to the cabin it was. Still, it had not been the smartest thing to do – like probably more than just a few other things he had done after meeting Nate at the cabin this morning. Or last morning, as he probably should have called it, with the sky already turning brighter in the east. If he wanted to be in time for the burial, he probably needed to hurry. However, it was not like he had left the pack in a way that most of the members would miss him anyway. Maybe it was better if he was not there, if only to not break the peace of the moment. It felt inappropriate to bring his disputes to the grave of the one who had always known how to handle these things. That at least he could do for her, if nothing else.

Finding the creek he had passed more or less an hour ago, he turned right, following its bed, the ice-cold water biting into his paws. Tired from the day’s fights and his run, and with his shoulder hurting in nagging pain where the bullet had hit him in the cabin, there were many things he could think of that were better than trotting through ankle-deep, almost frozen water. But if it made someone following him lose his trace and scent, he was not the one to make that one’s life easy. Not that he smelled anything suspicious, but after his confrontation with Garrett he better made sure to avoid the simple mistakes one could make.

Thinking of the other guard, his anger boiled up once again, though far away from burning as hot as pervious to his run. The mind lost a lot of its temper when it was busy pumping cold air through its lungs. It was mostly a deep feeling of defeat that had taken its place. He had not been able to protect neither Allie from dying nor Nate from taking wound after wound, and had provoked Nate when his leader needed his support the most. And it was not going to change either. Without anyone helping out, the day had shown Landon clearly how far off he was from turning things around for the better. The government had made him a fighter, a warrior. But just being good at killing things turned out to be not enough to protect those that had been close to him the last few weeks.
