Landon had never seen Nate as ferocious as in this moment. The eyes full of anger, his leader turned around to him.
"Allie is not for you to speak of."
He had always called Nate a friend, ever since they had escaped the governments grasp. At this moment though, he was not sure that this was true any longer. The hot breath on his fur, the bared teeth - he couldnt tell if it was just a warning, or if the black wolf was actually fine going further. Against any other one in the pack, he would have answered in the same language. Instead, Landon gave in, submitting and backing up as soon as the leader turned around to Garrett. A late, warning growl was all he granted himself when he was out of reach.
Feeling the urge to not let things end with that, he wanted to add something, just to get things right. But it was Garrett who spoke first.
"Allie... is gone?
It sounded real. Not as if he tried to let it sound like that. Had Landon been wrong? Had it just been a stupid coincidence that they had arrived just after the storm? Had his anger, his pugnacity and his fail made him decide even worse? No. He was a guard after all, it was his role to be ensure that nothing bad happened. But he had failed once, right? He gave both Ty and Garrett a thoughtful look, then turned away before they could see the insecurity in his eyes. Without saying another word, he began moving, catching up to the rest of the pack. Slowly, as if he was unsure he ever wanted to reach them at all.
