Fantasy The Misfits

"So that's where the entrance is man i hope they don't miss the $500'000 under those files" Danny thought not trying to enter the secret lab just waiting and watching.

(dude i didn't say 50k files i said 500k dollars @Shog

Leo took the sweat rag, but didn't look at Cory.  She wasn't supposed to see his breakdown.  He was supposed to be professional whenever he wore the suit.  That was Rocket's first lesson.  The suit had function, but it was also a symbol of hope to the people that saw it.  If he got in the habit of losing control while in the suit then he might do something like that in public, and then what?  Everyone looks at heroes and thinks that it's simple: fight crime and be loved by the public.  Well it's not that simple.  It involves...

His thoughts were thankfully cut short by  Freya.  He took the file with his free hand and gave the page a quick scan.  "No, I have not," was all he said.  He let his thoughts run for a moment before speaking again, though this time with an eerily level and low voice..  "Logically, we should preserve as much evidence as we can from KorTech.  I will save as much as I can in terms of digital information, and that should be enough.  Other than that KorTech will burn, as you said.  They will be whipped from the face of the earth.  If I see Kort, I will kill him myself and I expect nothing less from you."

Still holding the file, Leo quickly walked out of the room and to the computer.  In a new window, he began scanning for local radio signals.  He was going to find he man that attacked them.  He didn't trust or even like him, but he would make a valuable ally.  It would take some time, but he would find a way to contact him and he wasn't going to stop unless either of the others came up with a really good reason.  Or knocked him out, that would work to.

@Moolock

(Did you leave the note on the desk for one of us to see or keep it with you to give to D. B. or what?)

@Danny Blake

(A: That was already addressed in the OOC.  B: You said "there is like 500k in there."  Unlike most people, I seem to have been born without "street-smarts," so I saw a number and the only object that was in the sentence was files, so that's the connection I made.  My mind will not see a number and jump to money in any situation.)

(@Shog It's out to see, to the left of the keyboard. Sorry for not making that clear.)

Cory continued working on the Module, replacing wing tips here and there, fixing wires and tightening screws in other places, though as she worked, her passive expression gradually morphed into a frown as she thought of the other two in that photo. Ruby, Hank, the two of them were her friends, even though they were a few years older, and though it's been years since she'd seen them, their absences had been abrupt enough to spark curiosity and a pang of bitterness in her. They were special, like Storm and Whiplash, though their powers hadn't been specialized for combat. That coupled with the sudden disappearance sparked a dab of curiosity in her as to how they vanished. Based on what Storm and Whiplash had said, she wouldn't be surprised if KorTech pulled anything up on them.

With a small gasp, she realized an intense heat on her hand, and looked down to see the sizzling remains of a screw in the palm of her glove. Cory flicked her and toward the ground, dispersing the melted screw in small aluminum droplets before going back to her work. Don't count on it, Cor, she told herself sternly, There's every possibility they just up and left and no one else got involved. There's no way you'll be able to see them again. Just let go. She tightened a screw, pushing the thought of the two of them out of her mind.

Leo was having a terrible time trying to locate a radio signal from the merc.  Maybe he didn't have one, but he doubted it.  Soon enough Leo just set a few search perameters and let the computer try to figure it out.  He leaned back in the chair and rubbed his head, trying to clear his mind.  It was only now that he saw the sticky note on the desk.  He'd been so determiend before that he completely missed it.  He recognized Cory in the picture and wondered why she didn't bring this up earlier.  They now had more information than they knew what to do with, so if they were in some file, either digital or physical, it shouldn't be too hard to find them.  He entered the same area where they found the other heroes earlier, but found nothing.  He had to think for a moment before continuing his search in a different area.  What they found in that file were all publicly known heroes.  In the file Freya showed him, that girl didn't appear in that section either.  He sent the computer on a couple searches, but returned to the file with teh force field girl.  She only had one section in a rather large file.  He flipped through the pages until he found Rosetta Lin.  He quickly examined the page before marking it and continuing his search.  It didn't take long for hi to find Hank Roberts.  He marked the page and compared the two.  They were taken on the same day at the same place.  They were considered low-priority due to how "insignificant" their powers were, but them being together made it worth it to snatch them.

Glancing over at Cory, he wasn't sure if he shoul show her at first.  Saying that he found nothing coud give her hope.  But she needed to know the truth.  Besides, they were going to get them back.  They were going to get them all back.  With a deep sigh, he stood up and walked over to Cory.  He sat down next to her.  "Regardless of the result, I don't suppose there is any good news I could possibly give you.  Both of them are in this file.  If you want to read it I've marked the pages."  He reached over so she could take the file if she wanted.  Under his thumb was her picture as well.

@Danny Blake

(Does your suit have any kind of radio transmitter that Whiplash coud find to talk to you?)

@Moolock

(Don't worry about it.  I just didn't want to make a maistake again like I did with the money thing. I dislike having my stupid showing.)

Cory folded the wings and slid them back into the Module with a click. She didn't move to take the file, nor did she show much of a response to any of what Leo'd said for a few agonizing moments. Inside, her head was racing, but she couldn't grasp any of her thoughts long enough to piece them together. Too much was whirling around in there. Eventually, she reached up to push the file away. "No, it's fine. I already have a pretty good idea of what it would say." Her hand paused mid-air before reaching back to take the picture from under his thumb. Stowing it in her pocket, the pilot got to her feet, leaving the Module up against the wall. "Thanks, though. If we're going with the current hunch, least it means they're out there somewhere. It's fine."

She turned to the training room, then paused, glancing back to Leo. "Does the training room have fencing gear? Preferably epee? I don't need whites, just a weapon and a soft dummy."

@Shog

Danny just chilling on a park bench his suit folded up on his back hears a transmission "Well i'm not answering that i have personal shit to do" Danny thought before hearing a voice that sounded like Whiplashes. "Hey there champ, calling for round two or you want me to get in on some of the action you have with those two babes. Also uhh did phoenix say anything about me i really feel like shit for what i did and tell anyone and i'll kill you literally but i kinda like her, she's hot get it. I take it you got my gift right buy yourself something pretty while your looking at all that info."

"I don't think we have any formal equipment, but I'd imagine you can come up with something," Leo replied.  "Rocket has various grips in storage and some spare metal you could form.  I have no doubt your'e smart enough to figure it out."

He heard some noise from the computer and went to check it out.  He'd managed to get a signal the mercinary and replayed the message.  He shook his head in... dissapointment?  That wasn't the right word, but close enough for the situation.  And there was money?  He checked the bag again.  Was he really so obsessed with the current misssion that he ignored a crap-ton of money to get ot the files?  Guess so.  He returned to the microphone and replied.  "The only reason I'm trying to contact you is because you seem to have the desire and skills to help take down KorTech.  That's what we're planning on doing.  Don't expect to be paid, and don't expect a date out of someone you nearly murdered.  Are you in or not?"

@ChrisClark13@Moolock@Danny Blake

Cory'd nodded and disappeared into the training room. Going to rummage through storage, she came up with a left-pistol grip- Thank God.- and a few possible candidates for a blade. The first was too stiff and she put it back into the bin it'd been found in. Continuing to test flexibility and determine if the lengths worked, Cory proceeded until she found a scrap closest to an epee and took it to a workbench-like area where she could further shape it and use her fire to make it easier to work with.

A few slip-ups and a frustrated pilot later, she finally let out a sigh of relief as she held a somewhat-balanced blade, dulled on the end for training purposes, of course. She walked toward the back to a standing soft dummy and shifted into angard. Striking up a quiet hummed tune, the pilot practiced, gradually growing relieved as the repetition of advance-advance-lunge-reset gave her a steady rhythm to auto-pilot to.

"Haha don't expect to be paid dude i just gave you half a million obviously i don't need money and i hope the whole murder thing doesn't mess things up with me and phoenix, my first girlfriend tried to cut off my head too... she's dead now totally unrelated shooting star killed her or an asteroid idk. Anyway of course i'm in dude let's kick some KorAss."

"Be prepareed," Leo shouded to the others after muting his microphone.  "I'm letting the swod guy in!  He's agreed to help us take down KorTech."  he didn't wait for a response beofre opening the enterence near D.B.  He also grabbed his helmet and put it back on.  After lowering the security systems, he sat back and waited for his arrival.

Danny picked up his suit and swords and carried them into the entrance and made his way to the others "What's up guys, miss me?" Danny said jokingly. He placed his stuff on the ground next to the computer and walked around the room "Nice setup almost as good as my place maybe we should have a sleepover some time." He walks over to Whiplash "So bucket head we gonna be all mysterious or what like i already showed you my face and i think we need to build up a level of trust after the you know murder thing so my name is Danny Blake, don't look me up you won't find anything hell i technically don't exist because other than my clan no one's ever seen my face until now. Also (whispering) uhh where's phoenix."

Cory heard Leo's shout and drew herself  up from angard, the remains of the soft dummy at her feet. She'd decided fencing dull was boring and took a few minutes to sharpen the blade, leading to the dummy's destruction. Bringing the blade with her, she stepped out of the training room, instantly scowling as her gaze settled on sword guy. "What vote was won to get him in here," she growled, fingers clenching the grip. "Firstly, you will not refer to him as bucket head," she continued, extending her arm so the thin blade was pointed directly at Danny. "Secondly- Level of trust?" Cory laughed, a bitter, sharp noise that quickly died as her lip curled with disgust. "Don't make me laugh. Look at those people, let's fight them, let's try to kill her- oh wait, she's hot and a hero but also a child so I can't kill her, better try to get with her instead?" The air around Cory would begin rippling with heat and her eyes gave off a warm, orange glow. "What the actual fuck do you take us-me for?" With a hiss, the blade sailed through the air, slipping past Danny's head by millimeters to impale itself in the wall behind him with a resonating twang. "Leo, you're free to trust him. If he's stupid enough to get within two yards of me, we'll need something to clean up his ashes." Still simmering and giving off a fair amount of dry heat, she went back to the training room and slammed the door shut behind her as loudly as possible.

@Shog @Danny Blake

Leo knew he should have asked the others before letting him in, but he wasn't concerned about him attacking anyone.  He put Cory and Freya into the system as friendly and the next person to enter (Danny) as neutral.  That meant that if any neutral person entered a physical conflict with a friendly person then the security system would launch an attack on the neutral person unless they were in the training area, but that could easily be overridden.  Besides, they needed him.

"Basically what she said," Whiplash said.  "I try to make it a habit of not trusting the people that try to kill me.  Let me make this perfectly clear: I do not trust you now and doubt I ever will.  I don't even like you.  But this isn't a matter of what I like or not.  We both know your only here because you can be useful.  Besides, unlike you I have a life outside of this.  More or less.  You have nothing to lose by revealing yourself, but I do and doing so would be a tactical error.  I'd also be careful dealing with Phoenix.  She may be new to this, but that doesn't make her any less dangerous."

@Moolock@Danny Blake@ChrisClark13

"Woah. Found her. Dude killing people i don't know is literally my job and i didn't even keep the money from you guys i gave it to you and now KorrTech thinks you guys are dead so a little thanks would be nice. Also i'm 18 so kind of a kid cause that whole she's a kid i should get with her kinda made me sound like a pedo." Danny said to Leo i guess. "and let's be reasonable if you really didn't trust me or even like me as you said, that door never would have opened i'm not an idiot Leo, and don't worry i'll work something out with fe."

Walking around the room and looking at things Danny was comfortable this kind of reminded him of his old clans radio room. He thought as he plopped down into a chair. "So what's the plan."

Cory fell backward onto one of the training mats, staring at the ceiling. She could hear Danny through the wall and his continuous rambling almost made her start sizzling again. "Good God, does he ever shut up? Most people have a filter... sword guy- Danny or f*ck whatever it was... he doesn't have one of those." She kept her voice low, mindful to not be heard. "And I didn't mean it like that... he's the one who put x.o on that little note. It's disgusting." With a frown, she realized her weapon was still impaled in the wall in the room over, meaning she'd have to go back into the same space as Danny if she wanted to keep training. The pilot rolled over onto her stomach and groaned before reaching into her pocket for a lighter. In a few flicks, a small flame was going above it. Practicing control, she focused on the flame and morphing it into small shapes and figures,

Once bored out of her mind with that, Cory shut off the small flame and reached into her pocket for her cell, nothing fancy, just an ancient flip phone that used to be her dad's. Dialing home, Cory let out a long sigh, knowing her mom wouldn't be home for another few days, but decided to leave a message anyway, just in case. Hi there! You've reached the Finns. Please leave a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Have a great day! -At the tone, please record your message. When you are finished recording, you may hang up, or press 1 for more options. "Hi. Mom, it's Cory. Just calling to say I won't be home tonight. There was a little mishap with the FI and I've made it to the Shore to stay for a few nights until I can repair it and fuel up. Nothing's wrong, I'm alright. I love you, g'night Mom." Once finished, she flipped the phone closed and slid it back into her pocket.

Storm Maiden stood to the side, arms crossed. Personally she didn't like the fact that the Deadpool-wannabe was here, but as long as his psycho tendencies are pointed in the right direction he could be an asset.

"So KorTech thinks we're dead?" she said, "I suppose I can thank you for that. It gives us time to get a proper plan together. Though for how long will they believe that?"

"As long as you guys are not seen." Danny said rocking back and forth on his chair putting it on two legs and trying to hold it there. "So if you don't want us all to be targeted i suggest you guys lay low until we're ready to stri-SHIT." Danny said falling over in his chair hitting his head on the floor. "Ouch, dude i'm bored" he said to whiplash "got any video games?"

Leo did not trust this guy, despite what he may think.  There was actually a certain breed of hatred in Leo that he felt when thinking about Danny.  But his persona feelings didn't matter so long as Danny could be useful for the current mission.  While everyone else was talking, Leo quickly set a few things up on the computer.  "No, we don't have any video games.  This place belongs to and was built by a guy who spent most of his free time building some more contraptions.  Most of this space is filled with his unfinished projects.  Besides, we have some work to do."

He turned to face everyone.  "Instead, how about we try to be productive?  So Danny did give us an advantage, us now being dead and all.  Tomorrow I can find Blok-9 and try to get some information on it.  We can also try and get you a mask, Phoenix.  THis way no one can identify you and target your family.  Any suggestions?"

Storm Maiden tilted her head to the side and "hmmmmm"ed. There was multiple things she felt like asking, but most of those could wait until tomorrow after she had gotten some rest.

"How strong are those training bots of yours? Can they be effective in the field?" she asked, "Also you might want to throw together something Danny here can play computer games on. I doubt he's above trying to hack into your main computer for so he can do that."

Honestly she expected the Deadpool-wannabe to either start trying to hack Whiplash's computers the moment everyone's back was turned, or decide that to find something else to do to alleviate his boredom. She really did not want to see what that man considers a entertaining or a good time.

"I really don't want to him to be left with idle hands, I'm afraid it would be good for our health." She says, mainly to reaffirm to everyone that Danny is not to be trusted and to get them on their guard. As for the man himself, he hopes that the thought of everyone being on their guard would at least manage to deter him from doing anything to anyone.

Cory heard Whiplash's comment to her through the door and pulled herself up onto her elbows, reaching over to the Module. Lovely, lovely machine, she thought to herself as she pulled it over and pressed in a small section of panel to open a small storage compartment. Nestled among her tools was a sketchbook no larger than 3x5in and a few pens to go with it. She did have suggestions, actually a few, but all of them were just sketches she'd done in her spare time. She didn't really like any of them that much as her goggles were comfy enough and served their purpose. She was a pilot and sliding into a suit meant diving head-first into being a hero. For some time, while the others talked in the main room, Cory looked between her sketches and the closed cell phone that she'd left a message for Mom with. What would she say if she came to find this out? Does she want this? Do want this, really? Everyone out there's said it at least once; I'm a kid still. She reached for the cell and this time dialed her mother directly. After a few rings, it picked up.

Their conversation:

"Doc Finn speaking."

"Hi Mom-"

"Cory? Honey, it's so late, why are you awake? Have you had dinner? I left a note for where I put the mac'n'cheese.-"

"I'm fine Mom. I know how to make dinner, and I'm just staying out studying..."

"Cory..."

"Okay, I'm not. I have a question."

"Fire away."

"Ha... ha, yeah. Erm... Jesus, uh, Mom?"

"Yes?"

"What if I told you I wished on a star-"

"Oh I remember you always did that when you were little. Remember that time we went camping and you spent so long looking to wish on the brightest star and-"

"What if I told you that wish came true."

"Oh... well, what wish was it?"

"I can... kindasortashootfireatwill."

"Kinda sorta?"

"Shoot fire at will, yes."

"So that's what all those lighters were for. I was going to talk to you when I got home, I thought you were smoking-"

"MOoom!"

"Alright, alright. So.. you wished on a star."

"And it came true, yes, and I can shoot fire at will."

"So I take it you're not at the library studying."

"Erm, no, I'm at another person's base, if you would. We got wrapped up in some stuff with that big tech company in town and we're laying low. They're heroes, the actual ones. All those news stories? I'm with those guys- the good ones... I might join them."

"Have you had dinner yet?"

"...Really? All that and you want to know if I've had dinner?"

"Well, yes, I trust you with this star fire thing and I trust you with the Module and I trust your judgement. It was your wish and I doubt you can take it back so... have at it, my little shooting star."

"I'm 17."

"Still my little girl."

"And I had dinner."

"Good. Anything else?"

"Nope."

"Alrighty then! I love you, my little shooting star. I'll see you when I get home."

"Kay. Love you too, Mom."

Cory flipped the phone shut, letting out a long sigh of relief. "Well then... guess I'm going to be a hero." She put the phone away in the Module compartment and picked a sketch to start refining into an actual helmet, making sure to include electronics as well and space for what she'd need. "Yeah," she called back to Leo after some time, "I've got a suggestion or two. Give me a bit." Being a pilot, she needed visibility, as much as possible, though not a lot of glass because if things fogged up while she was in the air, that'd spell trouble. Something sleek but functional, but not flashy or one of those shell-helmets the aliens had in moves. She still had her hood and considered just a normal mask with space for her goggles to go over it. That would be most comfortable, but least armor. I'm a glass cannon anyway... She looked down at the sleeves of her jacket and flipped to another page to sketch up some body armor- something comfortable as well, but warm because it would always be colder i flight.

"They are only robots and have certain limitations, but they are each built with certain specifications such as speed, strength, ranged, etc." Leo replied.  "The biggest problem would be getting all of them there without being detected.  And I don't plan on leaving this chair until he has left.  He can run off and do whatever he wants when we're done here.  Technically we can as well if we change into civilian cloths.  I'll see about getting a consol or something for next time to keep you occupied.  Unless anyone has any other suggestions, I suggest we all try to get some rest.  I can contact you if needed, Danny.  I'm not sure about you, Storm, unless you give me a phone number or something."

Leo was ready to sleep for the rest of the night and well into the morning  He was interested to see what Cory had come up with for a design for her suit.  He should be able to find the materials needed.  He just hoped she knew what she was doing because he wasn't going to build it.  He was not adept in mechanical engineering at all.

"Cool dude get a ps4 tho x-box sucks, wait YOU HAVE TRAINING ROBOTS, i'm at home." Danny said getting ready to fight but it was pretty late and he knew whiplash would probably just tell him to leave so he gathered his stuff and headed out slowly hoping to talk to phoenix on the way to his fuckin awesome mansion like this guy is rich.

Cory would be laying on the mats when Danny entered. As soon as the door opened, she sat up and shot him a glare. "Oh.. you're using the training room?" She gathered the Module and her sketchbook and hopped to her feet. "I'll clear out then." She moved to reach for the blade she'd had earlier, then remembered it was still sunk into the wall and scowled. With no motivation to go back to visit Leo or Storm but less than none to communicate with Danny, she went over to sit down against a wall, pulling up her hood and resting her head in her knees. Please don't say anything to me, she thought.

@Danny Blake

that's the car he is stacked.

Danny wanted to talk to phoenix but he saw her fold up like a turtle and all he thought to say was "Sorry." Then he went to his lamborghini and clicked his key opening the doors. With a sigh he asked phoenix if she wanted a ride home at least hoping to show off his sweet car and try and make things better with phoenix.

Cory raised her head a bit, looking at him from just under the hem of her hood. After a few moments, she sighed and got up to follow him, taking the Module with her. "Sure... why not, I guess. Just drop me off at the town library." She got into the car passenger side and looked down to her lap where she was wiping her goggles off with her shirt. "Do you know where the Portwood library is?"
