Fantasy The Misfits

Cory squinted as she didn't see anything after the blast. She didn't think that'd been strong enough to vaporize anything, otherwise she'd've been in just as much trouble. She didn't hear anything either and had no idea what was going to happen when suddenly a weight pressed against her and cold metal touched her neck. The pilot stiffened instantly and itched to move, though upon sliding her gaze to the side, she noticed it was in fact a blade and the hand extending behind her flashed in her mind BIG TROUBLE. Cory winced, mentally kicking herself. What was that? You're not a kid? You're sure acting like one, thinking you could've done anything to help when you know nothing. She kept her eyes closed, taking a deep breath. "Keep going, guys. For the other heroes that might go missing." If she really was a child, she could manage a grin, and Cory did, looking ahead to Storm, though the comment was aimed equally at Whiplash. "If either of you say something mushy in the media when this is all over, like "we regret the loses of lives we failed to save," I will haunt you both." Cory kept calm, though her mind was still raging at being such an idiot. "Though if you get the chance, find a Ms. Emily Finn. Tell her I died in a car crash or something stupid. Beats "oh your daughter tried to be a hero and got her throat slit."

The smile faded and morphed into a scowl. Aiming a quieter comment back to the sword guy, she growled, "I hope you know you're doing them a favor getting rid of me. I'm not a hero, I'm just baggage... You were right. I'm a child. I'm two months from my birthday and I'm a child."

Danny the assassin was just about ready to slice her neck open like a tube of yog-... hold  on. "You guys are fighting korrtec right since they targeted you" he asked blade still at her throat "So are you saying Korrtec is behind all of this disappearing hero nonsense. "OH FUCK NO. THAT'S NOT GONNA SLIDE. I MAY KILL PEOPLE BUT I DON'T TAKE PEOPLE AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILIES, I DON'T MAKE DANNY WONDER WHY HIS DAD NEVER CAME BACK HOME OR WHY HIS BODY NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP, I DON'T MAKE HIM THINK THAT HIS FATHER DOESN'T LOVE HIM. I MAY BE AN ASSASSIN BUT I'M NOT A MONSTER. *sigh* (under his breath) all the people i killed deserved it anyway." Danny said a tear in his eye but the other's couldn't see it. He put his sword down repressing the memories of his own father walking out on him and leaving the clan never speaking to him again. "I'm so sorry for what I've done to you guys but i can make this right. Are any of you hurt? I tried to make my blows as non lethal as possible. Heh they weren't paying me nearly enough to kill you guys." Danny said jokingly giving Phoenix a quick once over.

Whiplash hesitated a moment when the maniac reappeared behind Phoenix.  He wondered where he went, but figured it was teleportation again.  So he also had invisibility, interesting.  But interesting wasn't going to save Cory.  He retracted his whips to show he was unarmed.  This, however wasn't true.  As Cory spoke, he slowly moved to grab a tiny throwing star.  This guy was slippery and he knew it.  If he was really going to kill her, he would have done it and telported away.  At least, that's what Whiplash made of it.  It would still be risky throwing this, but the energy he charged in the star would release enough electricity to paralize a normal person.  He was wearing a suit, but the extra charge should mess with the systems.  He was wagering Cory's life into the mix, but he calculated she had a relatively high chance of comming out of this ok.

Luckily, it never came to that.  He ended up releasing Cory for some reason. Still hesitant, Whiplash responded to his question.  "The reason you were sent after me, and in turn Storm Maiden and Phoenix, was because I stole information from KorTeck earlier tonight.  I have Terrabites of informartion regarding everything from their projected stock value, to projects in development, to information regarding the missing heroes and villians.  KorTech has some associate who wantes them for whatever reason.  KorTech is kidnapping them and trading them to their unknown associate in exchange for something.  It appears to mostly be tech of some kind.  So, why the sudden change of heart?  That kind of thing just doesn't happen in our line of work on any other."

(Ironically, my favorite role is a glass cannon)

*sigh* "I knew some of those heroes and not for good reasons. I was hired to kill at least three and couldn't bring myself to do it because i watch my targets first like i did with you after one of the fights while i was sneaking up on one of them his phone rang, I thought it was pretty weird that he had a phone on him but what i heard made me understand and i left, it was his daughter sounded about 2 or 3 Daddy where are you i miss you already stuff like that, (quietly) stuff kids think all the time. After that i swore no more missions with heroes but korrtec said you were just some thief and that there was only one of you. I want to help you, dumb heroes like you guys put your life on the line knowing you have people that love you just to protect some random people but what happens when the hero dies and so  does the civillian the hero is and the family is left just there. I don't want anyone else living a life like that. Let me help you."

Cory winced as he did his shouting monologue as his mouth was right behind her ear. Maniac shouting with a blade to my neck. Not a good combination. But he let... go? She stumbled forward, pressing a hand to her neck to make sure it wasn't scratched at all. The glove came away clean and she looked back to him with wide eyes, which quickly narrowed with anger. Seething, but staying silent as Whiplash spoke as she went about checking over the rest of herself. Her head still hurt from both blasts, as did the rest of her, including her lungs from the smoke. She didn't wince after the smoke cleared though. Other than the large holes in her pants, no one would know she'd just been in the middle of two explosions.

I'm a child. Just a kid who thinks she can run with the cool ones. She took a few paces away from the group, only half-listening as the sword guy explained himself to Whiplash. "You don't want anyone else leaving their families, so you put a blade to their throats?" She didn't say it loud enough for him to hear, and raised a hand to her forehead, quivering some, though with her back turned, one wouldn't be able to tell if from crying or quiet laughter. If I want to keep up this whole hero thing, I'm gonna have to learn how to be around these crazy folk. I don't want anyone else living a life like that, says he. That's his joke? I just threatened to kill you, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it? That's his joke? She summoned a small ball of fire and closed her fist around it, not caring that despite the layer of fireproof gloves, she could still feel the heat; despite the protection, it burned and she didn't care.

@Shog @Danny Blake

Storm Maiden breathes heavily as she balls her fists. What the hell? Suddenly this guy has a change of heart?

"Whatever's he's selling, I'm not buying." Storm Maiden remarked before she could stop herself. Now suddenly faced with the need to tie that into a complete thought she continues talking, "He means to tell us that he suddenly gives a shit about who he kills? Not two minutes ago he tried to cut me in half! Either he's working some stupid angle since he's realized that were heroes or he's legitimately messed up in the head."

"Either case, that's pretty damn sad," Storm Maiden coldly remarks as she raises her palm, clearly threatening an attack. Even though she's pissed about everything, she knows well enough that if she wants to be in the right when she strikes this fool down, he'll have to attack first so she can claim self-defense. As is right now, he's basically confessed to killing people, but considering his mental state and KorTech's lawyers he'll get off scot free somehow.

"See, he's saying that the as long as the people he murders aren't heroes then they don't have families worth caring about! Or rather, he doesn't want to call every other hero that's still left down on his head. Everyone knows that hero murderers don't last long." The heroine says the last part with a sneer, trying to get a rise out of this killer. A ball of lightning crackles to life in the palm of her hand.

Maybe on an average day, she'd be telling that guy to surrender... but after these last few weeks, she's feeling quite the opposite of charitable right now.

Danny now feeling like shit as he almost broke his own promise and killed a hero retracted his suit revealing his snow white hair and blue eyes and maybe even leaving a few vulnerable spots open but he didn't care if he died or not, to him he deserved it for that stunt he just pulled. He threw down his swords and put his suit backpack down and walked toward the it looks like crying phoenix "Hey i'm really sorry i didn't know you guys were heroes and i know how scary it is to have a blade to your neck i just hope that i didn't make someone as beautiful as you cry." he said with a shy smirk but quickly made his face serious again as he realized that he could have really messed this girl's head up. " And uh lightning girl i know what you're trying to do I still am aware that you don't like me and i'm sorry for the whole stabbing you thing but if you knew what the people I've killed have done you'd know their family would applaud their death. If you still want to kill me be my guest, but i don't kill good people anymore. And you want to know whats really sad not having a dad since you were three not having a functioning family not having anyone." Danny remembered how he had to learn to take care of himself since he only had his dad in his clan and when he left and didn't take Danny Danny had to teach himself to do almost everything and train without the comfort of his dad to go home to since the clan doesn't let anyone take care of abandoned children shedding out the weak. And those asshole kids still hated him.

"And yet you took a contract from KorTech, the guys who are well known for being shady bastards with morally questionable business practices." The ball of lightning in Storm Maiden's hand holds steady as she levels a death glare, "Get out of my sight before I make you."

"I know you're mad and all but I can help you, you don't see it now but you will later. Don't expect me to just disappear though KorTech will fucking burn for this hero kidnapping bullshit. I live abroad and this is my first time coming here for a contract i still have no idea what KorTech even does really. Again phoenix i'm sorry and hope that one day we could become friends." Danny grabs his stuff and starts to walk away.

Storm Maiden keeps her attack charged until her foe is well out of sight.

When he seems to be gone, she lets herself float back down to the ground and dismisses turns her barrier back down to low.

"Well, that happened." she says as she looks everyone over, "I want to say I've had enough excitement for one day, but KorTech's facility is still standing."

Danny already had devised a plan inside of his head to destroy KorTech from the inside and he made his way to their hq. "Those sons of bitches are gonna wish they were never born." He thinks to himself.

Whiplash was just silently watching the interaction from the sideline, but he was seething on the inside.  The nerve on this guy.  He had to remind himself that he couldn't and didn't kill people, no matter how much he wanted to.  This bastard thought the world was black and white, right and wrong.  If anyone was going to know the difference it was Leo.  He grew up a theif.  His amily usually stole from the ritch, but that didn't make it right.  Sure, they could afford to lose a couple hundred thousand over night, but that didn't justify it in the same way killing "bad" people makes it any less wrong.  By this guy's definitioin, his own parents could be classified as "bad" people" and kill them without a second thought.  Leo would never applaud killing, regardles of who the victum was.  If they were truely that bad, then they didn't deserve a quick death.

"We need to recouperate," Whiplash hissed through gritted teeth.  "Fix machinery, tend to wounds, etc.  Are we going back under, or do either of you have a place you need to go?  Just make sure there's something I can destroy.  I need that right now."

Cory'd been still whenever the sword loon spoke to her and she breathed a sigh of relief once he'd packed up and gone. "I need a quick flight, clear my head sorta thing. Back in ten!" The wings of the Module unfolded and the engine hummed as she shot into the sky, quickly clearing the trees and within a few seconds, even the taller buildings. With a bird's eye view, she was quickly able to soar out of town and over the forest, doing her laps where no one could point up at the sky and see her. What are you doing, Cor? What insane part of you decided to get into this? Her scrapes and scratches from both blasts stung as the wind hit them. They sung a lot and soon, the pilot's bitter expression was mixed with no small amount of pain. What if they're all right about you? What if they've always been right about you?  You're a kid, Cor. Just a stupid kid who wished on a star. And for the first time, she wished she'd asked the star for something else.

Folding the wings into a dive, the pilot aimed for an area outside of town by the sea where the skeletons of warehouses stood. The ground neared and the wings shot out, abruptly slowing her descent to the point she was able to land on her feet and only jog a few steps to slow down. Glancing to her right and left, Cory ducked into the closest warehouse and sat down in a corner. | This lasted for a few moments until she heard something scuffle in the darkness. Instinctively, the pilot jumped to her feet, forming a fireball as she did so, and shot it into the darkness. The motion lasted a split second and with a high-pitched squeak, a grey mouse skittered out, the poor thing scared out of its wits. She sighed, pacing some to get her heart rate down from her own moment of fright and the rush just after. Get a hold of yourself, Cor. You said ten minutes you'd be back, it's already been four. Two to fly back. Four to calm down. Calm down- Whiplash's voice echoed in her head- Control your emotions, and the pilot gritted her teeth, another spitting ball of flame forming above her hand. Much like one would throw a baseball, she chucked it point-blank at the side of the warehouse, watching as it slammed against the corrugated tin, quickly flattening out until the fire curled into smoke and disappeared. It felt good initially but after the light died, a pang of bitterness struck. "I'm just a kid."

Storm Maiden runs her fingers along the cut on the back, "If you've got medical supplies and something to patch my costume with down there that'd be great. Though I'm not sure how long this location will stay secure. How many secret entrances do you have by the way?"

Exhaustion was starting to kick in, no matter how much she didn't like admitting it, "We need to be fully rested, KorTech's going to start throwing everything they're got at us once they realize what we've got..." a grin spreads across her face, "Actually, why don't we put the data we have out there? Maybe not right now, but set up the computer to do it at a later date. Maybe take out information pertaining to where we're striking next as well."

She started walking back towards the secret entrance, "Information wants to be free right?"

"About 11," Leo replied, looking off to where Cory flew away.  He wished he could say he placed a tracker on her or something, but he didn't.  He didn't think he would have any reson to.  He walked over to the enterence and opened it up.  He could possibly find her using the satelite, but that would be hard.  No, more than hard.  It would be about as difficult as finding a needle in a hay field.

"We can rlease some of the information, but we have to be selective in what we chose to release.  With all of the information we have we obviously can't release it all.  Once we get back I'll work on getting the right information and get some programs running to spread it.  Unfortunatly, the computer isn't nearly as flawless as you think it is.  I'll need to do some of the hacking manually.  Anyway, It'll work out."  He stopped, realizing he wass going to start ranting again.

Once they returned to the base, Leo began working on getting some information working.  He also directed Storm Maiden to where she could fix her suit, rest, and get something to eat.

(I hate dorm internet.  It shut down just before i hit submit and then deleted everything I wrote before.  Sorry for the crappy quality.)

Danny enters KorTech's hq and goes straight to the boss and tells him that the job is done holding everything he can back from killing this sicko. He gives Danny the money and then Danny leaves his office turning on his invisibility. "Ok so that whiplash guy got everything off the computer but let's see what he missed" Danny says taking pictures around the place and swiping everything he can like key cards documents stuff like that put it in his money bag and exited the building.

Danny went back to any place he could think that the heroes would pop back up and waited. Hidden

Cory's last lap of the warehouse came to an end at the bay doors  and with clenched fists, the wings of the Module sprang out and she launched into the night sky, leaving the skeletons of buildings behind. She didn't go back immediately, though. For a while, now over her said ten minutes, the pilot did simple circles in the sky, knowing that so far from anyone else, she could have a nice, long chat with herself. "First order of business, prove you're not a kid- no no, that's something a kid would do, scratch that. Wait? For how long? I've turned myself into a f*cking glass cannon, quite literally with my ability not letting me hold attacks. I'll always be more fragile than them." She shook her head, letting out a low growl. "Great job, Cor."

She landed not too far away from the center of the park where they'd fought and sat down on one of the benches.

Danny watching and waiting for someone to come sees phoenix and turns on his invisibility module (that allows anything he touches to be invisible too) and took the bag of money and files and stuff over to the bench with a note on it saying "To the hottest girl i know hope you accept my apology x.o. ps. practice makes perfect."  and drops the bag and watches her. A little creepily might i add, weirdo.

@Moolock

(I'll let you decide what's in the files in the bag @Shog but there is like 500k in there. I'm not cheap.)

Leo took off his helmet a bit after he started working.  He also opened the cameras installed near the park enterence, hoping he'd spot Phoenix when she came back.  He became a bit absorbed in his work and didn't notice immediately when she came back.  When he did notice, he remotely opened the door and caused it to emit a noise that would only be noticeable to those in the area.  He hoped that would be enough to get her attention.  With that, he returned to his work.  He was nearly ready to get everything sent out.  Except he still hadn't set any locations for them to go too.  He sighed and trudged along with his work.

Storm Maiden grabs what she needs needs to both fix her costume and bandage her cut  before holing herself up in a bathroom.

It was a long time (and a long shower later) before she came back out in her costume.

She walks over to Whiplash before grabbing a chair and sitting down next to him with a audible 'fwump'. "Find anything else interesting in the data?" she asked, falling silent for a few moments before speaking up again as a thought comes to mind, "Any idea who they might send after us next?"

Cory turned in surprise as the bag appeared on the bench with a thump, the note fluttering off it onto the ground. She picked it up, tilting her head, and looked through its contents before going to pick up the note and read it over. Shuddering at the message, particularly the x.o. she looped the bag over her shoulder, tossing the note inside. The noise of the door opening alerted her that her time out had elapsed and she ought to be heading back inside. Slipping inside and closing the door quickly, Cory walked down to the base control room. Peering inside, she noted the two sitting together having another chat and quietly went to drop the back beside them, "From sword guy," being the only thing she muttered before walking off. She walked somewhat stiffly and her clothes were still beaten up from the mishaps from earlier and if one was looking carefully, her hands shook a tiny bit.

@ChrisClark13 @Shog

The door to the practice room opened and shut behind her. She gently discarded the Module and paced the room, every so often sending a jet of flames behind her to help decompress. The flight hadn't really done anything but at least her head wasn't ringing anymore. Now it was just her skin stinging and the occasional tremble. With the excitement of the fight over, she realized how much those two failed attacks had drained her. Over and over, I'm just a kid, went through her mind, every so often coupled with the faint sensation of cold metal to her neck. At those times, she'd reach up and check to make sure the skin wasn't broken, though the pacing didn't stop.

"Not a whole lot," Leo replied.  "They're pretty good at keeping their data seperate.  I've found sme notes in regard to new exerimental technologies, but nothing else.  They havent named their projects anything of value to us and there is very little information on them.  There's probably another mainfraim or hard finles or something."  He was quiet a few moments before Cory walked in.  He was a bit shocked that he not only came back, but came back with something that might be useful.  He might actually be on their side.  Not that it would make Leo trust him any more.  He grabbed the top file and began looking through it.  Nothing of use.  Then the next.  Still nothing.  Grabing his third, unaware of if Freya wa looking through them aswell, he found something of interest.  There was some tech there.  It didn't take him long to recognize the tech as stuff Rocket had invented.  They were even taking appart his pulse cannon!  Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope!  He'd managed to calm down on his way here, but now everything flared up again.

Without a word, Leo stood up and walked over to the training area and called three normal robots.  The first one came out imediately, the next would come out after a minute, and the third 30 seconds after that.  Leo spent most of the first minute using only his fists to fight the robot.  Then he added kinetic energy to the mix and disabled the robots arms with with well-placed blows.  When the second robot came out, Leo used his whips to throw the first one at it,  The first didn't get up, but the second did.  When this one came at Leo, he wrapped a whip around each of it's wrists and began pulling in different directions.  He wasn't strong enough to pull the arms off by himself, but with the aid of some extra kinetic energy the arms went flying off.  With just a few kicks, the robot fell over.  Then the thrid robot hit Leo from behind.  Now thuroughly enraged, he kicked it with some extra energy and backed off.  Extending his whips again, he repetedly smashed them into the robot's torso, pointed end first.  At first only a few small dents were made, but they quickly grew in size until the metal broke open.  In about a minute, a good sized hole had been smashed through it's torso from front to back.  With one final attack, Leo yelled and swung his whips down on it's left shoulder, forcing it to collapse.

Leo stood there panting with sweat covering his face.  He wasn't even aware of Cory behind him.  If she listened closely, she could hear him muttering between breaths.  "Get a grip!  You can't afford this!"

(I'm cutting the number of files down by a lot.  I"m assuming you meant there were 50K files.  They probably wouldn't have that many files in any single building where you could even consider swiping them.  On top of that, 50K pices of paper stacked on top of eachother would be 16.4042 feet tall.  Reasonably, I'm going to say you grabbed around 10 files.  They can be fairly packed, but I don't see the worlds best ninja getting away with much more)

Cory'd remained silent as Whiplash came in, able to tell he was very worked up. She stayed quiet as he called out the bots and dismantled them in quick succession, though winced some at the sounds of large clangs and kicks. I shouldn't be watching this. He probably came in here to be alone. She walked over to where she'd put down the Module, as well as her small belt satchel, and pulled out a small towel. Stepping back over to Whiplash, she held it out, offering a small smile as well. "That was impressive." Dropping it over his hand, Cory turned and made her way out of the room, stooping to pick up her belt and the Module as she passed through the door wordlessly.

@Shog

Back in the control room, the pilot glanced about, her gaze lingering on Storm before she walked over to a corner to sit down. Taking out a few tools from the small compartment on the back of the Module, she set to work fixing what'd gotten messed up earlier.

Storm Maiden thought about following Whiplash, but instead stayed behind to leaf through the files. Ah, so that's what got Whiplash so riled up, KorTech's trying to copy his mentor's designs... probably. That also might mean they have him around somewhere where they're trying to work him to the bone...

Continuing through the files, she didn't find anything about Galeforce... but... there was a file that looked like a report with some random hero... wait, that person's not even an active hero or villain for that matter! It's just someone with a minor forcefield power that, and they admit in the file itself, wants no part of the whole superpowered scene at all!

She quickly reads to the end of the file, her anger spiking,

And... they labeled them as an easy target! It's... it's official KorTech's just flat out targeting people with powers. The only saving grace seems that this person also is listed as low value!

With the file in hand Storm Maiden enters into the training room, "Whiplash! Have you seen this!?" She shouts, holding out the file to him.

Cory got to her feet after Storm went over to the training room and reached across the desk for a post-it and a pen. Quickly, she wrote, Can you see if there's anything on the names "Ruby" Lin  or "Wattson" (Hank Roberts)? She reached into a pocket of her jacket and withdrew a picture of three people with Cory being one, standing in the middle of the other two. Both figures were older than her in the photo, which only seemed to have been taken a few years ago, judging by comparing how Cory looked in the photo and now. She tucked the photo under the post-it and returned to her corner before Storm came back in.
