Realistic or Modern the Halifax witch hunts

"I don't know heavenly policy, but i do know that your possibly starving, let's go get dinner!" Lin said before walking across the street on a crosswalk towards a fancy seafood place at the begginning of a pier.

There's a moddest line of mostly made up of sharply dressed humans going into the seafood place. Inside it is ornate with many brass, tile & wooden decor. It wasn't a busy night so the line moved fairly swiftly. "Now, Aura when was the last time you ate out?" Lin asked

Aura shrugged. "Maybe two years ago? Three? Not since my dad died really."

"No wonder you were on the street!" Said Lin as the two got up to the front of house where the waiter escorted them to their seats. "This meal, I'll treat you to everything your heart desires"

"Oh, that's alright. I don't eat much really." Aura smiled and sat down. "I mean, I've survived for years on scraps of food."

Darnall sighed heavily; he was in that strange city again. It was familiar and yet it was not. At least he wasn't walking through traffic naked this time; he knew that his body was nothing to be ashamed of, but he had felt eyes on him as he walked, even though no one had seemed to be able to see him. No, this time, he was leaning against the railing of a lighthouse, and looking out over the rolling waves. It was peaceful here, and quiet. A welcome change from the lightless place, full of strange noises, that he spent most of his time in.

'Wouldn't you know? I'm actually wearing clothes this time. Though a hospital robe wasn't exactly what I had in mind.' Darnall mused to himself knowing that the peace would be broken eventually.

Suddenly, time skipped to midnight, under a full moon, and Darnall was standing at the base of the lighthouse looking up at someone who had climbed over the railing and prepared to jump.

"No, wait!" He screamed to late as the figure released the railing and fell headfirst towards their death. He watched in stupified horror as the figure fell, and flew. The figure was flying, and on a crash course for him. Darnell only caught a glimpse of moon mirror eyes before he jerked awake.

"Doctor! Patient Henge has awoken!" Once again, dark and loud.

Darnall groaned as he suddenly rediscovered the lost magic of hearing with his ears. Who's idea was it to make sounds so LOUD? He was nearly able to handle being painfully deaf when someone flicked a switch and sent power to his eyes just as a bright light was being flashed into them.

"Guh!! Na!! Shta!!!" His tongue was made out of sandpaper and only seemed to fold back on itself and choke him, but the sudden Brightness receded, as did the noise.

From the silence, Darnall was piecing together noises that seemed to make sense. "...r. Henge, can you hear me? Do you know your name? Are you-" Everything else was lost to Darnall as he fell unconscious. This time, into a restful sleep.

((Sry for the novella.))

"Oh, that's what you say now, but trust me you'll eat a lot" Lin said as she picked up the menu looking for an appitizer for two.

Aura looked at the menu and struggled to read some of the words. She was only basically literate, and struggled with longer words. She could barely decide on what to get, and even then she had no idea what she was getting because she didn't know what the words meant.

"I'm personally eyeing the lobster thermador and maybe some mermaid's caviar for an appitizer, what do you want" Lin said as a pianist can be heard in the background playing a subtle melody.

When Darnall wakes up, a brown haired satyress in her nurse's uniform sits by his bedside waiting for the patient to wake up so that he could be oriented to where he is.

Rising slowly out of a restful sleep, the only indication that Darnall had awoken was the sharp snapping of a dry tongue failing to wet parched lips. Now that his sleeping body had had the time to run a rudimentary systems check, Darnall was able to open his eyes and gaze up at the ceiling and it's fluorescent lighting without so much as wince.

"Hello" the nurse greeted awkwardly greeted while subtly waving as this is her first day of her nursing internship.

Darnall didn't mean to be rude as he turned his head slowly to stare at the nurse. For a few moments, he merely stared at her blankly, smacking his lips in a fashion particularly reminiscent of a cow chewing grass. The sudden realization that she wasn't human hit him at the same time that he realized he needed to drink something before he started breathing out sand.

His eyes widened quite dramatically as he forced his vocal cords to work in such harsh conditions. "Wa-wah'err. Wah'err. Wah'err." The non-human reation could wait until after his drought was abated.

The nurse got up out of Darnell's hospital room, her clopping hooves can be heard outside as she was was at the water cooler and filled a Dixie cup full of it. She flopped back into his hospital room and put it on a small table. She got out a small flashlight, turned it on and said "Now open wide and say ahh" to see if his throught was clear enough for him to drink water without coughing it all up on his hospital gown.

Knowing that there was water in that cup, that he was too weak to take it for himself, and that this nurse wasn't going to give it to him immediately, Darnall's blank stare became a low-key glare. He opened his mouth wide, however, the sound that issued forthed was more akin to that of a wheezing kookaburra with a collapsed lung than a human being saying "Ah". Though he hadn't intentioned to make the sound, Darnall felt that it mirrored his current mood perfectly.

The nurse saw that all the sand and debris was cleared out, looked at her list of instructions left by the trainee and looked at them carefully as this was her first patient where she wasn't an assistant. She saw his case record earlier about fatigue and headaches, he was clearly too weak to hold the Dixie cup, she had to give him asprin. She put two asprin tablets on his tounge and held the Dixie cup of water in front of his face and gently poured it into his mouth.

Darnall accepted the aspirin and water gratefully. Though he tried to swallow carefully to avoid spills, he did manage to nearly choke himself on the last few gulps of water, in his haste to quench his thirst. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, there w a a part of Darnall that was distinctly upset about the fact he had produced actual sand from his body; humans did not actually start accumulating sand in their mouths after a stray thought.

"Now, much control do you have over your magic powers?" The nurse asked as Darnell's head injury caused his Ravdium (an organ behind the brain that  magic powers to the nervous system) to rupture and she knew that certain patients tend to cause chaos when the Ravdium is healing.

Darnall spoke carefully and quietly, like a whisper that carries throughout a room. "I...don't know what you're talking about."He truly was perplexed. "I don't know any magic, plus, magic isn't even re-" There was a spark in the back of Darnall's mind as he remembered the one of the cultists' many discussions about him after a particularly grueling rituals.

He shuddered noticeably and recited an answer that clearly not of his own design. "While his magic potential is impossibly high, his control and magic allignment is nil."

Aura squinted at the menu. "What's a sa--sail-sailman?" Aura asked, struggling to pronounce salmon correctly.

@Tonstad39

"Sammon, it's a type of fish, but it's just spelt weird" Lin explained politely, remembering how much of a struggle it was to pronounce words correctly when she learned English.

The nurse had her answer, but was still wierded out by it, so she politely asked "Is there any third party known for controlling you?" Hoping that he hadn't been spending time with hellspawn.
