Realistic or Modern the Halifax witch hunts

"Sorry to hear that" Lin said in a distressed manner before locating her keys in her purse and using them to start the car. She baked out of the parking garage, got down to the pay station. She rolled her window down to give the machine the ticket to park there &a the money to pay for the spot before the divider rose.

"Don't be. He's burning for his sins." Aura belted herself into the car and examined her hands. They were calloused and blistered from climbing up buildings to sleep on the roof. It was safer up there. "They would have just gotten in the way of my life. It's hard enough just to be a teenage half-angel out in these witch hunts. Having wings would make me a target."

"I wouldn't think having wings would make you a target" Lin said now driving down the street "of anything Angels get away with more crime because they're never suspect in anything. So if you did have wings I'd think you'd be less suspicious"

"If I have none I look like a little beggar girl, not a beggar angel. Beggar Angels aren't supposed to exist."

"They probably just do their begging in heaven then, because not all angels have wealth or even money for that matter" Lin said thinking back to how her home country had a god of poverty. Meanwhile she's driving towards a more historical, high end part of Halifax.

"That's true, but Angels are supposed to be taken care of by God." Aura mumbled. "God just fucked me over."

"That only means that some angels are on welfare, In my home country" Lin said "We have a god that manages poverty, basically functioning as existential welfare for supernaturals and naturals alike, he's a bit on the eccentric side though."

"Your country? Where are you from?" Aura squirmed slightly.

"China" Lin said while driving through a high class seaside part of town "Immigrated with my now late husband in the 1870's"

"It was beutiful to look at, but in those days, China was still a dynasty & I was an illiterate peasant girl when I lived there." Lin recalled "We lived in a small village in southern china that made its living on rice farming, most of us were starving when it was out of season. Everyone in the village was illiterate except for three people, The priest, the scribe & the mountain's guardian dragon."

Aura smiled. "Did you learn to read?" She asked softly, dazzled by the tall buildings.

Lin laughed and said "In china, definitely no, only priests and nobles ever had that privilege. In Canada, yes, but I had already been a vampire for a couple years nefore I could read English. I never learned to read in my mother tounge, Cantonese until later on in the 1880's" Lin now drove past skyscrapers and posh looking historical landmarks before turning into a road that ran parallel to the Atlantic Ocean, enabling aura to see the ocean from her side of the car.

Aura gasped at the scenery, entranced. She couldn't hold the conversation now, she was far too distracted.

The sky was overcast with no stars available and a couple of boats can be seen out at sea. Lin still continued driving as people can be seen walking down a sidewalk. Lin drove for a good 5 minutes down the coastline before turning into a historical part of town with brick sidewalks. She stopped her car at a nearby parking meter & payed 3 hours worth of change after stopping the car.

Aura got out of the car, a smile on her face. She hadn't seen that part of town ever before. Her life was one spent solely in the inner cities. "That was beautiful." Aura said softly.

"I'm glad you think so, up until WWI, that's what all of Canada looked like. It was either high end buildings or shanty homesteads & granges." Lin reacalled

"You've been around for a long time, haven't you?" Aura asked suddenly. "Why didn't you move somewhere like London or New York?"

"I have penthouses & manors across the world, including London, Toronto, New York, Vancouver & Guangzhou." Lin said "Origionally, the labour contractors in the area were with the British columbia railways & i just sort of took my twins and went to canada where my husband found better work than rice farming"

"Wow. That sounds.... that sounds so fantastic." Aura laughed. "I don't even have a house to stay at."

"I can get you a decent apartment to live in if you wish, could even be in the same building as my Halifax penthouse." Lin offered as she motioned auras to follow her.

"no, that's alright. I have to keep moving or the police will find me."

"Darling, when you're under my protection, someone with $300 million dollars and henchman for miles, you won't have to worry about the police. They'll be too worried of my crime syndacate to even focus on you personally. Added to the way people owe me protections, they're not gonna say a thing to police so their loved ones don't become lunch." Lin coaxed as she walked down the brick sidewalk down a few feet to a nearby pier where a fancy seafood place with an overloaded parking lot resides.

Aura felt the familiar sinking feeling in her stomach and she groaned. Lin's words scared her, and make her feel sick. She was consorting with a criminal. That was okay with Aura, but not with the angel within her. "I think I'm gonna be sick." Aura groaned.

"In New York, one of my biggest henchmen operating my chapter over there is a fallen angel, you won't get sick like that when your other half becomes fallen." Lin said stoping to support Aura's nausea.

"If it falls." Aura mumbled. "I don't know that it will. After all, my crimes would be attributed to my human half."
