Alexander Brennan and Kaleb Price
Former Seraphite, Former FEDRA officer | 19, 27 | Current location ;; Washington

Kaleb felt the knife slice into his skin a little, the blood trickling down his neck. His eyes went from shock to fear as he looked at Carlos. Kaleb was terrified now, and he had no idea what was going to happen. Alex watched Nate make his way sneakily over to the leader, and Carlos had three of the five in some kind of hold. Either with his gun or his foot. The only wild card was the one with the knife at Kaleb's throat. Alex narrowed his eyes and backed up, moving to the side as he put his knife to the man holding Kaleb, the knife pressing against the side of his neck. "Let him go." Alex said low. The man pressed the knife a little more into Kaleb's neck. And then the knife was gone. Alex had taken one hand, grabbing the hand holding the knife and pulled it away while slicing the wolf's neck. The leader squirmed in Nate's hold, his eyes narrowed. "Stand down." The leader finally bit out, the two remaining men lowered their guns. "Now, let me go." The leader told Nate. Alex looked at Nate and shook his head. They shouldn't show these men mercy and let them live. It will come back to haunt them later.

Stand down. That was all he wanted. That was what Nate needed. Everyone to stand down, because there was no reason to be killing and suffering like this. There was no reason that this should go down this way. Not because Alex used to be someone with a scarred face. Not because Kaleb used to be someone of authority. None of it. This was ridiculous. They could all just walk away. Alex shook his head. Carlos just stared. Mercy. Nate gave mercy. He always wanted mercy. This was the time for mercy. They could let them go and leave. That was what he wanted. Except it would never happen. Not with a scar and a FEDRA officer. Not when they already killed several. “No.” And he slit the leader’s throat. Carlos didn’t hesitate to shoot the other two and then shoot the guy beneath him. Carlos shoved the two guns in side pockets of his bag as he moved quickly to Kaleb before throwing his arms around him. Nate stood there. Breathing.

Alex watched as Nate told the leader no. Watched as he slit his throat. No mercy was earned today. Alex heard the gunshots, and knew they had to move. He walked over to Nate, placed a hand on his shoulder before he pulled him to his chest. “I’m sorry.” Alex told him quietly. I’m sorry you had to do that. I’m sorry this city wasn’t what we thought it would be. “We should move. Another patrol might’ve heard those shots.” Alex suggested. Kaleb felt Carlos throw his arms around him and he buried his face into Carlos’ chest, breathing heavily as he told himself he was safe. Safe and sound. With his love and his family safe.

Nate blinked. Breathed. Alex was there, and he breathed. His Alex. They were going to take his Alex from him. Why did some scars on his face matter? How did that define a person. He gasped. Not now. They weren’t safe yet. He grabbed Alex’s hand. “We have to go.” He moved quickly, a hand out to touch Kaleb’s back as he moved past them. “This is not where we belong.” Carlos held onto Kaleb like their lives depended on it, and in this moment, they did. If another patrol came by and wanted to touch Kaleb, then he would do the same thing. They didn’t want to ask questions, then he wouldn’t either. “I’ve got you, baby. But we have to move.” Or I’ll kill everyone here. And he knew it. He couldn’t handle the prejudice. He kept his arm around Kaleb but turned them the way they came. “If you’re shaken, I can carry you out.” Whatever it took.

Alex felt Nate grab his hand and he followed him. He knew they had to go. Knew they weren’t safe. But where did they go from here? Where else should they go? Kaleb was shaken, absolutely he was. But moving, they had to move. Kaleb couldn’t get his body to move, he was frozen. “Carry me.. I can’t.. I can’t walk right now.” Kaleb pleaded, which was something he hadn’t done in two years. Nothing had scared him like this in a long time. Maybe it was because he knew what the WLF had done to other FEDRA officers. Alex looked around and then to Nate. “Where do we go from here?” Alex asked, moving with Nate.

Nate was just moving. They had to be anywhere but there. This was a place full of of monsters that weren’t infected at all. He almost preferred the hunters. At least he knew where they all stood with them. It didn’t matter the background. He glanced over his shoulder towards Carlos who had already hefted Kaleb up and into his arms. Carlos who was kissing the top of Kaleb’s head and his forehead and his cheek as he moved to follow Nate. Carlos who was softly saying things like, “I’ve got you,” “I’m right here,” “You’re safe, baby,” and “No one else can touch you.” Nate’s attention moved back to forward as his legs took him faster and quicker back the way they came. “Not here,” was all Nate could answer, because that was all he knew. That was what he knew days ago. He should have listened to his own hesitations, but he never could have forgiven himself if he didn’t try. He gripped Alex’s hand so tight, he was losing color in fingers. “Anywhere but here.”

Alex felt the tight grip on his hand and glanced at Nate. “Okay. But baby. Release a little on the hand. You’re loosing color. I’m not going anywhere.” Alex told him, moving beside him just as quickly. He saw the edge of the city, saw the forest. He was running from Seattle again. But this time he wasn’t alone. This time he had his family. And this time would be better. Before Alex saw a patrol at the city’s edge. Right in front of them. Gunshots fired at them and Alex looked at Nate. “Get in that building there!” He yelled, moving them towards what looked like an old apartment building. Alex knew the building. It was where he’d hidden the night before he left. Kaleb had curled his head into Carlos’ chest, feeling the kisses and allowing himself to be comforted. Until he jumped in surprise at the shots. “Carlos..” He whispered, his voice terrified.

Nate had not noticed he was holding on so tightly, and though he probably should have let go, he didn’t. He couldn’t let Alex go. There was no getting past this. There was no dealing with it right now. So he kept that tight hold as they ran to the apartment building, Carlos following close behind as he whispered to Kaleb, “I’ve got you, baby. Nothing can hurt you.” Everything would have to go through him first. They ducked into an old apartment building, one of those that wasn’t being used by any of the parties at war with each other. Nate could only hope they didn’t have to also deal with infected. Carlos decided that if there was infected, they could pit them and these patrols against each other. Easy win. But he was also not in a great mood. That blade had been far too close to Kaleb’s neck. They moved quickly, Nate assuming that they would be followed inside. He hated this. Absolutely hated it. Why had they come here? Why was he so naïve?

Alex entered the apartment building, and looked around. “This way.” He said, leading the way to the stairs, and climbed up. He made his way up to the third floor. “This building is clear, or at least it was a month ago when I came through.” Alex said as he opened the door to the third floor. He double checked and nodded. “Follow me.” Alex said, walking through the few doors before he came to one that had a symbol on it. He opened the door, peeked in and looked at his partner and family. Alex let them inside and then pointed to a window. That window had a plank attached to it. “Through there, the building on the other side is a safe house. My people keep it that way. And use it to spy on the patrols on this side of town.” Alex explained as he blocked the door. Kaleb was just curled into Carlos, listening to him. His neck wasn’t bleeding from the small cut but it did have dried blood on it.

This really was the place that Alex had been telling them about, and Nate brought them all back to it. He wished that he could take it all back. He wished that they could turn back time and choose to go anywhere else. Somewhere far away from here. He followed up to the third floor and through a room. To a window. A plank. He looked at Carlos and Kaleb, unsure if they could cross like that. Carlos nodded. He could make it. Nothing could separate them. Nate crossed first and then Carlos took Kaleb slowly just to make sure. He concentrated, and it was fine. Mildly horrifying that something could go terribly wrong, but fine. Nate waited for Alex on the other side.

Alex watched Nate cross, watched Carlos and Kaleb cross, and then he was right behind them. He shut the window behind him, and once he was on the other side, pushed the plank away from the window. It dropped against the building on the other side. He shut the window, and looked at the other two. “We can pick a room here and wait out this patrol. They don’t usually patrol at night here so we can leave them.” Alex said, walking down the hall, grabbing Nate’s hand as he did, and found a room. He pushed the door open and let everyone in, then blocked the door after with a chair. Kaleb saw the room, the window and the plank. He ducked his head into Carlos, keeping completely still as they crossed. He didn’t like that. But he knew that he was safe in Carlos’ arms.

Wait out the patrol. Okay. They could do that. They could travel at night. Nate didn’t care as long as they could leave. All of them. This was not the place for them as much as he desperately wanted it to be. It wasn’t. they were going to need a new plan, but he didn’t know how to find it. He followed into the new room, watching Alex as he blocked the door. And then he stood in the middle and he tried to figure out what he was supposed to do. Carlos moved to an old an musty but not gross couch where he sat himself down but kept Kaleb close to him. He was not angry with his family. This was not their fault. He was, however, only here for Kaleb right now. He knew that Nate was going to need the support as well. Alex needed support. They were going to have to support each other, because Kaleb needed him more. “We’re safe, baby. Handsome got us somewhere that they aren’t going to be able to find us.” He stroked Kaleb’s hair and gently rocked them.

Alex finally took a minute to breathe. He looked over at Nate, standing in the middle of the room. He looked at Carlos, sitting on an old couch with Kaleb close. This was his fault. Him and his scars. He should’ve never left Seattle in the first place. Should’ve stayed on the island. But at the same time, he was glad he hadn’t. If he had stayed, he’d never have met Nate, or Kaleb or Carlos. He walked over to Nate and wrapped his arms around him. Alex pulled him close. He knew that Nate needed the support and he was there for him. The silence stretched out for a few minutes before Alex sighed. “Well. Now where should we go?” He asked. Kaleb sat on the couch beside Carlos, tucked and curled into his side. Safe. They were safe. Kaleb finally moved his head to look at the other two. He heard Alex and then looked at Carlos. “Jackson?” He asked, remembering what Jordan and Asher had said to them when they had all split up two years ago.

Alex may have thought it was his fault, but Nate knew the blame should fall onto him. He had these grand ideals. These unshakeable hopes. Hopes were just that. They were hopes. They were wishes that came to you in the night to keep you going and help you fall asleep. Not reality. The reality of the situation was that his mama and his brothers were dead. They had been. His mama had been dead for years. Alex needed him more than he needed some random people who maybe still held the same beliefs of an organization that collapsed years ago. When Alex’s arms wrapped around him, he crumpled into them. As they stood there together, he could feel himself collapsing. Where should we go? He didn’t know. He didn’t have the answer to that, and it hurt. It hurt, because this whole time, he was the one leading them here even if Alex was the one actually showing them the way.

Carlos looked at Kaleb curiously. Jackson. Huh, he had not really thought about that. “We could follow Jordan and Asher after all. Think they’d take us in after being apart for two years?” It wasn’t really a question. He knew that they would. He knew without a doubt that if they could find them again, they would have somewhere to go.” As he ran a hand down Kaleb’s side, he looked at the other two. “You know how we keep talking about Jordan and Asher from before? Well, we split up, because they were looking for someone while we traveled together. They wanted to go to this little community, um Jackson, Wyoming I think it was, find Jordan’s mentor, teach Asher how to live a civilized life, and probably settle down. But Kaleb and I weren’t done exploring the world yet.” He brought his attention back to Kaleb. “You think you’ve seen enough of the world now love?”

Alex felt Nate crumble into him and he held him close. He turned his head to look at the other two then at Nate in his arms. “Jackson. Hm. I think that’s a good idea. What do you think Nate?” He asked softly, looking down at the man in his arms. Away from Seattle. Settle down. Retire. “I bet there’s a farmhouse there. One that could fit all of us, and yes even Jordan and Asher if they wanted to join us.” Alex added, looking back at Carlos and Kaleb. “I think they’d take us in.” Kaleb said, the idea of seeing Asher again making him smile. He missed the man, him and his partner. “I think I’ve seen more than enough of the world. It’s time to retire and enjoy life.” Kaleb said, a smile on his face. He felt the hand down his side as he smiled.

Jackson. Wyoming. At least it was a start. He wanted to ask a million questions. He wanted to ask if they knew this was going to be okay. If they knew for sure this was a safe place to go. Nate used to be sure about this place. He used to be sure this was where he belonged. He could feel it inside him. But he was wrong. They were all wrong. “I have traveled my whole life. I’ve seen a lot of people. I’ve done a lot.” From Alex’s arms he nodded. “I think I’m tired of traveling now. If this place is safe with people we trust, I think we should try.” What else was there to do? Carlos was more than happy with this new line of thought. He would love to see more of his people. Jordan and Asher were with them less time than Nate and Alex, but they became his people. They changed the way the world moved, and that was instrumental to their survival. “Mm, farmhouse with everyone? Now that just sounds exciting. I love that you’re committed before even meeting them. That is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. All six of us living our absolute best life.” Carlos nearly gasped at his next thought. “Kaleb my love, we can have the wedding with them too!” He excitedly looked at the others. “Just wait until you meet them!”

Alex heard Nate and nodded. Jackson. That was where they were heading. “I think that’s a wonderful idea.” Alex said quietly before he turned to look at Carlos when he said that and chuckled. “I know you two and if you two vouch for them then I’m all for it.” Alex said as he smiled. Kaleb was just as happy, a smile on his face. “I can’t wait. Even if I have to share you some nights.” Kaleb said with a grin. “Because I know you two will be all over each other after having been apart for the last two years.” Kaleb added though he probably would be by Asher’s side for a little bit too. “And uh you may have to share Alex too. Also yes. We can have the wedding with them to.” Kaleb agreed before he thought for a moment. “I can’t wait to make it to Jackson now.” He added, letting out a soft sigh.

“Oooh Alex, Jordan is going to love you. You and your unbelievably handsome self.” Mmmmm the nights they could all have. “You thought I was something.” He shook his head. “That man will change your life.” Carlos smiled liked he just won the lottery they didn’t have anymore. “Nate, my love who doesn’t know it yet, I warn you now that they will be a lot, but you will love them. Oh oh oh, baby, do you think maybe you and Medicine Man are what Asher needs? I mean it has been two years, but that’s a whole lot of trauma to work out of a person.” Carlos had not been this exciting in a long time. This was crazy. He hadn’t seen this day coming. Nate, though a little overwhelmed and a lot warring with his conflicting emotions, could not help but also find the excitement contagious. “Okay, but I refuse to share him too much. I don’t like not having you around.” He breathed out deeply, the air wavering. “I’m sorry I brought you back here. Let’s go to Jackson.”

Alex looked at Carlos and flushed red, hearing him. Oh boy. What did he sign up for? Someone like Carlos? But more? Alex looked at Nate when he heard him. “I guess I could be shared. And it’s okay. We shouldn’t have to wait too long. The sky is darkening already.” Alex said, looking out the window. This was just enough time to find their next destination and calm down from the high emotions. Kaleb looked at Carlos, he could see how excited he was to see Jordan again. And Kaleb was excited to see Asher once more. “I think me and Medicine Man are exactly what he needs.” Kaleb agreed, looking over at Nate.

Nate looked out the window as Carlos chattered about the exciting new destination in their travels. He watched the darkening sky die around the Seattle buildings. Buildings he was leaving. He slipped away from Alex’s grip, ran a hand over those beautiful scars, kissed them both. An apology. Then he walked over to Carlos and Kaleb with a grin. “While we are waiting, let me see your neck. I don’t think it’s anything too bad, but I want to make sure it can’t get infected. Yes, Carlos, you can hold onto him. I just need to be able to see it.”

Alex looked out the window too. His home. He couldn’t help but wonder about his family. Did they miss him? His friends.. were they okay? His attention was pulled from his thoughts when he felt Nate’s hand slip from his and then a hand over both scars. A kiss on both. Alex blushed softly, a warm smile on his face. He watched Nate go over to Carlos and Kaleb. The oldest hadn’t moved from Carlos’ side but he looked over at Nate. He shifted so he was still very much attached to Carlos but so that Nate could check out his neck. He could still feel the cold metal cutting his skin, even just a little bit.

Nate bent down on the floor, resting on his knees so that he could be closer to level with them. He leaned in and looked. “I’m going to touch around it,” Nate told him gently. It was always better to state what he was going to do especially when dealing with something more traumatic. This was what he was good at. Carlos ran his hand through Kaleb’s hair as a constant physical reminder that he was not alone. That he was safe with Carlos. Nate slowly placed a finger beside the small nick. That was all it was. It was so tiny. He smoothed out the skin. “That’s not bad at all. I’m going to clean around it and then you’ll be absolutely fine.” He placed his bag on the floor and pulled out the supplies. It was hardly anything to clean really. “It may sting a little, and I’m sorry.” With it being so small, it may not sting at all, but it also may. He wanted to cover all the bases. He cleaned it up and smiled. “Good as new. How does it feel?”

Kaleb looked at Nate and nodded. He held his breath as he felt him touch around it. He also felt the hand running through his hair, the physical reminder was welcomed. Kaleb knew that he was safe now, his family wouldn’t let any harm come to him. As Nate cleaned up the small nick, he bit his lip but that was all. It didn’t sting half as much as he thought it would. Kaleb looked at Nate when he was done and slowly extricated himself from Carlos and leaned into kiss Nate’s forehead. “It feels much better. Thank you.” He said before he leaned back and once again, curled up next to Carlos.

Nate smiled and squeezed one of Kaleb’s hands. “You are always welcome. And if you need anything else, you just let us know. But you’ve already got the most protective and warm security I have ever seen.” He ran his hand across Carlos’ shoulder before moving back to Alex. Carlos wrapped his arms around Kaleb and brought him to his chest. Still playing with his hair, Carlos decided now was as good a time as any to ask the painful question. “So how is everyone else? Handsome. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay. Medicine Man? Now is the perfect time to clear the air.”

Kaleb smiled warmly at Nate, as he nodded. “If I ever need anything else, I’ll let you know.” Kaleb told him, as he felt Carlos wrap his arms around him and pull him to his chest. He loved the fingers running through his hair and playing with it. He looked at Carlos then over at the other two. Alex blinked, as Nate came over to him and he heard Carlos’ question. “I’m.. not great. But I’m okay. I’ll admit, it was terrifying in the moment. Especially when they wanted to take me there.“ Alex said, his body shivering a little at the thought of the place the wolves take them. To the Apartments.
