Fantasy The Chalice Academy

(Wow, you have school now? I'm on my summer break. :P And I sleep at 3 am to wake up at 9 am, just because. xD Everyone is on when it's late where I am, so I like to stay awake)

( NZ Does it's holidays differently, 4 10 week terms split up by 2 week breaks with the 2nd half of oct-feb off if your a senior. I tend until like 4 on weekends too :P . )

Sitting down, happy that Tessa seemed to have forgiven her Kanari looked around the table, coming to a focus on the white haired stranger noticing he had red eyes, similar to Tessa's but slightly paler. With the combination of his hair and eyes she presumed he was an albino, a very rare thing, presumably even among those with superpowers, "Hi.. I'm, Kanari. Nice to m-meet you" Her nerves working themselves back up, surrounded by the bustle of the classroom, another experience she wasn't familiar with, afterwards she sat quietly, content with listening for now.

(Gtg, Should be able to post in a few hours though)

Rayu looked up, his gaze lingering on Kanari before turning away. "Nice to meet you, Kanari. I'm Rayu." His hand reached up to his bangs, just over his eyes. Sometimes, he wished he could change his eye color, and sometimes, he liked them the way they were, as he could drive away anyone who was annoying him. It was always in the presence of those smaller than him he wished that he was different. Maybe he should get contacts, but sticking something in his eyes didn't sound too nice. Instead, his gaze moved around the slowly filling classroom, watching for other students before striking a conversation with Tessa. "So, tell me more about this school." He sensed that Tessa was feeling better, and felt his spirits rise up a fraction. He didn't bring anyone down today....so far, it's a pretty nice first day of school.

"Uh..." Tessa said, "It's confusing. Sometimes doors don't have rooms behind them, instead they have walls. I've walked into some of the walls before and I can confirm that some of them are made of stone. The corridors change directions a lot; like, you can't really go the same way twice. The lessons are difficult and the teachers- especially Mr Michealis- like to play mind games. I think they just want to get us all expelled for some reason or another." She leaned back in her seat. She wasn't good at talking to people- well, no. She just didn't talk to people. It was weird to know that somebody was actually listening and taking in what she was saying.

Octavius now talking to him self, "My power is pretty stupid. I can sense if somebody's near me. He opens his book back up and begins reading a part aloud, " From a private hospital for the insane near Providence, Rhode Island, there recently disappeared an exceedingly singular person. He bore the name of Charles Dexter Ward, and was placed under." He realizes he's reading aloud, "Sorry bout that. Didn't know I was reading aloud." He laughs to himself.

Rayu turns to Octavius. "It's fine," he said, feeling particularly friendly. "I do weirder things than read aloud." He turned back to Tessa and listened intently. "That is confusing." He leaned back on his chair, inhaling lightly. "I've walked into plenty of walls already," he muttered, half to himself. Then he said in a slightly louder voice, "Are there teachers like Mr. Michealis? I've only heard of him, and him being the most...well-known for his reputation."

"I don't know." Tessa shrugged, "From what I've heard, most teachers don't survive the year either. We'll probably get a completely new bunch. Besides Mr Michealis, none of them last year left much of an impression on me. I don't know. Stop asking so many questions." She rolled her eyes, "You're being such a new kid."

Rayu stifled another laugh. "I am, though." He leaned forward, resting his hands casually on hips lap. "I think I know about the school at this point. Is there anything you'd like to tell me about yourself?"

"About myself?" Tessa said, "Why would you care about something so pointless? I'm just me. You tell me something about yourself, albino." She was leaning forwards now, her arms and head resting on her desk. Why would he be interested in her? Nobody was. She was pretty average, as far as teenagers with magical abilities went.

Rayu gave Tessa a wry smile when she asked for something about him, though it was more like something else than 'asking.' He sighed. "My history isn't...that interesting," he finally said. "I didn't have a good childhood." He felt his face change to one with a blank expression, the same kind of expression he used with everyone. "And I don't think it's worth talking about." Trying to lighten the mood, he added, "Though I'd tell you that electronics tend to break when they're around me, so I suggest, if you have a phone on you, keep it away from me."

"Okay." Tessa nodded, "Electronics away from the electricity boy. Which is a shame because I was going to use you to charge my phone." That was an awful joke. She rested her head on the desk. She was such idiot. Reason number... Three?.... not to talk to people. She was awful at it.

"My proper name's Theresa. There. Now you know something horrible about me." she said.

Rayu blinked at the girl, probably for the fifth time today. She always caught him by surprise. "Ah, yeah, you can charge using me, but I can't guarantee the condition of your phone afterwards," he joked back. After she told him her full name, he thought for a bit. "My proper name is Rayuno. And I don't see anything horrible about you." He was genuinely confused at this point. What was so "horrible"?

"Theresa. Theresa." Tessa said, "There has never been a cool person called Theresa. It sounds like somebody sneezing. And Rayuno is a cool name." She sat up and crossed her arms, "One day, I'm going to change my name to something normal. Something fiery sounding. And people will go 'Oh, have you seen... Insert my new name here... She's so cool. She burns buildings down and burns witches and I don't know, other stuff that fire can do'. I'm just saying things now. Ignore me. I don't talk to other people very often."

"Theresa is a nice name," Rayu said. "And if you hear anyone sneeze, that's probably me." He took a pen and paper from his bag and scribbled something on it. "I don't know why you don't like your name, but I like it. And it's kind of impossible to ignore you. You draw attention to yourself." He gave her a playful smile, though it was small and quick. "You're fine the way you are. You're the second person in my life who can talk to me normally."

"Second person?" Tessa demanded, "Okay, who was first? I refuse to be second to somebody!" She was joking... Maybe. She really didn't like the idea of someone being better than her, even though someone nearly always was. She had a competitive streak, you could say.

Rayu couldn't hold back a laugh this time. Once he was done, he replied, "I don't know, to be honest. It's someone I can't remember. But I do remember, when I was younger, they used to talk to me a lot." Rayu turned his gaze to Tessa. "But I like your spirit."

"Thank you. And why can't you remember?" Tessa said, smiling, "Did you walk into a wall?" She laughed but it wasn't really funny. It was kind of sad. He couldn't remember the person that was most important to him.

"The body on the table had risen with a blind and terrible groping, and we had heard a sound. I should not call that sound a voice, for it was too awful. And yet its timbre was not the most awful thing about it. Neither was its message -- it had merely screamed, "Jump, Ronald, for God’s sake, jump!" The awful thing was its source. For it had come from the large covered vat in that ghoulish corner of crawling black shadows." Not knowing that he read a whole paragraph aloud He shut the book and leaned back in his chair. He murmurs to himself a phrase his brother always said, "A chapter a day keeps the demons away." He giggles to himself at the thought.

Rayu chuckled. "I think so." He spent a lot of time trying to remember, it just seemed like he couldn't. And if he was going to try and remember now, then he's going to infuriate himself, and he'd rather keep a good impression on people, as Tessa was one of the people who could talk to him like he was normal. "I think I walked into series of them, actually."
