Kai forced a smile on his face in response to the student's return wave. He slowly traced his steps towards the student, careful to keep his distance and not intrude. "Um, I'm Kai. You must be Gears..." He glanced back at Mr. Peter before returning his gaze to Gears.

Gears smiled at the boy. He used one foot and dragged a chair over.


"Pleasure to meet you Kai! Have a seat if you like!" He offered a hand out in front of him.

Kai nodded his head and sat himself down in Gears' presence. "Thank you very much" he uttered in a soft tone. The smile had left his face and instead Kai sat there timidly biting his lip. "That's an interesting name you have.. Gears..." He clicked his tounge after saying the name.

Gears smiled "Well my real name is John Torque but most people call me Gears instead" Gears lend back a little on the chair "So tell me, what brings you to this school?"

 

[kayashirna]

Kai nervously scratched the back of his head. "My family has been under a curse that also sort of provides an odd power. I can control salted water, mainly ocean water. But it doesn't do me much good because I can't touch it or else I turn into a squid."

 

[Bishop]

Gears smile faded slightly as he looked at the boy. He leaned in and asked "Your serious?"

 

[kayashirna]

Kai shrunk back with a slight nod. "I, uh, know it's kind of stupid. I can manipulate any salt water but I can't even touch it." He hid his face in his hands. "If I get stuck as a squid someone has to pull a princess and the frog and kiss me to turn me back.."

Gears sat there for a solid couple of seconds before placing a hand on Kai's shoulder "That fukin sucks dude"

Kai groaned into his palm and shook his head. "I can do cool things, but the curse makes it absolutely redundant."

Gears didnt know what to say to this "Well...is it any good in a fight?"

 

[kayashirna]

"It's about as good as my skill, I suppose. But.. I rather not fight to begin with. And since fighting with water is sure to get me splashed it doesn't matter my control since I'll be rendered useless anywhere." Kai sulked in realization as he understood just how much his curse and power defeated eachother.

[Bishop]

Gears looked up at the roof "Well...how far away can you control water?"

 

[kayashirna]

Kai rocked in his seat. "You know, I don't really think I know. I can utilize it but i never really found a reason in controlling salty water very far from me so I never really tried before." Guess that's something new to test.

[Bishop]

Gears sat there looking back at him "Its an idea" His eyes started to wonder around the room again.

"Yeah..." Kai slumped in the chair and let out a sigh. Awkward moment... He looked around the room at the other students playing instruments and began to hum a bit. Hum a ancient tune that his family told him the sirens sang in winter, a tune that once may have lured men to their deaths in the night. But regardless, it was a beautiful song to sing.

Gears was just pissing about watching the girls play there instruments. He wasn't good at music but he liked the sound of it "So do you play music Kai? I don't"


He wanted to start conversation with this kid but didn't know how to go about that.

Kai shook his head and a smile returned to his face. There we go, that was much better. A smile suited him more, just the soft, motherly, kind smile he has more often than not. "That would make the two of us then." He spoke up with a light chuckle.

Gears chuckled at Kai's responce "Ah well leave it to the experts then" He paused for a second before another question hit him "How about cooking!?" He was hoping that he could find at least one person in this school who could cook as well as him.

"C-cooking?" Kai was caught off guard, he didn't expect to hear such a question from this kind of person. With a grin he slowly nodded his head, "I do cook a little bit. But I don't think I'm as good as a mother should be. However, baking sweets is always fun."

Gears'es eyes widened and a childish smile ran from ear to ear


"Oh sweet! Dude i love sweets! What do you like to make? I like making Cakes and Cannolis and stuff like that! Dude Italian sweets are so nice and they arnt that hard to make! Usually there is a tad more salt than i like but i don't mind that at all!" Gears was talking a tad fast and a little bit too passionately for his looks.


"Have you ever cooked, like, a main meal? Because man i could make just about anything you could think of! Roast to rice, Steamed to grilled i can do it!"

Kai was taken aback by Gears' enthusiasm. Sweets, this thug? Cooking? No way! "Y-you sound so happy, I'm surprised! I don't cook a whole lot or anything, it used to just be for my family. And my siblings always demanded sweets. I don't mind myself, but I just prefer icecream instead of any fancy cake, though crepes are pleasant..." he struggled to stay in tune with Gears' knowledge so he looked down at the floor and just listened.

"Dude!" Gears finally said "If you want i could make you some killer meals! I haven't really been able to cook for anyone but myself so if i cooked for you that would be amazing! That's if you want of course?" He lend in slightly waiting for his response.

Hide groans and rolls over in his bed, deciding the best course of action, he curls under his blankets and decides to skip school, who is going to care anyway, he thinks as he falls back into his slumber.

 

[kayashirna]

"Really?! I'd love to try some of your cooking if you don't mind!" Kai responded in excitement. He never really had any impressive meals or went out to eat, so this was very new and welcome to him. Thinking back to his family, he added quickly, "I'm up for anything if it's not ocean fish."
