Fantasy Sengoku Jidai: Samurai RP OOC

Um I'm ok with whatever but NO ONE should get a say on whether or not a character dies accept the person controlling it.

I think that random chance is a good way to decide battles. I think that death, especially in our characters will be rarer because most are lords and so are more valuable than the samurai that serve under them.

1.For battle I think random chance within reason would be the best idea. For example if one side is very obviously going to be the winner then it should go to them being the victor. If there is no clear victor then it should go down to random chance.

2. I feel like death should only happen if the character has a very small chance of surrvival in the situation they are in and are willing to allow there character to die. Otherwise I feel as if someones character shouldn't die. Personally for my own characters I am fine with any of them dyeing as long as it was a realistic situation of dyeing ( Mostly because I agree that it could make some pretty cool plot points.)

3. I love this idea! Personally the thought of having the war or maybe multiple wars last a few generations with the children of our characters becoming active in the war sounds awesome to me.

I personally believe we should go by what history has taught us. In the field a defending force will get pushed with some casualties while inflicting medium casualties, I believe the loyalists will be defensive since they are on their own turf. I say that the shogun beat the emperor loyalists in the field by pushing them back to the castle then the loyalists fall back to hold the castle. If you don't know, taking castles is actually very hard and requires days, to months of preparation and siege barrage, not even including that the besieging side MUST have more men if they attack directly. From this I can say the siege should be broken by saboteurs and small skirmishes. Then another field battle should take place, with either a draw (due to decreased shogun forces), or a slight loyalist victory. After this Idk, the OP will decide. But this is my own personal thoughts on the matter, take my two cents like you would a grain of salt, I just like to think how it might actually go. And if you can't tell I have big problems with a weeaboo's logic, taking 20 supersoldier katana infantry against 200 cavalry and expecting an easy/instant no casualty win.

Back from work and the votes are in.

1). overwhelmingly it's been decided that fate will decide who wins. I'll roll a die or something here in a minute and reveal the victor.

2). The consencous seems to be that death among officers should feel rare. This doesn't really effect anything, since it's up to players to decide when their characters die, but there you go.

3). And finally with a grand total of like 2 votes It's been decided that we'll go forward with the whole "grand campaign" idea. Battles will take place months apart. I may add a "birth date" section to the CS to more easily keep track of character's ages as years go by.

I see what you're trying to say but if history has taught us anything it's that nothing is set in stone.

One of the most famous battles in Japanese history and the one that led to the rise of the now famous warlord Nobunaga Oda was the battle of Okehazama. Oda led his entire army, a whopping 2000 men, over a mountain to attack the Imagawa army, itself numbering around 25,000. Imagawa was killed and Oda reported no losses.

Similarly, according to legend the strategist Hanbei Takanaka managed to capture Inabayama castle with a total of 16 men by dressing as a woman and taking the lord hostage.

Long story short, history is stupid. Good luck and clever planning has more sway over who wins wars than walls or numbers.

Hence, random chance will decide.

Hello everyone, its good to see a samurai based RP, I'm very interested to join but since I'm really confused, I need to ask a few questions.
I can see that you guys don't use real history and most of the families are made-up, so all the real historic characters in the Sengoku Jidai wouldn't be exist too ?
Second, I see there are already a huge number of clans in the RP so I wouldn't want to create more clan and be another daimyo or shogun, can I just have a character who is an officer that already belong to a clan ?
If I can join, can anyone please tell me briefly about what's going on in the RP and the situation of each clan ?

Right now the imperial and shogun forces are about to engage in their first fight. It has been determined that imperial will win the first fight, now we just have to roleplay it out. If you want to join a clan you can join as a member of the Komori or make a character leading one of there vassal clans.

Basically what he said. We got no problem with you making a new lord or an officer. No historical characters exist but feel free to take their name if you want. One of the current clans has taken the name chosokabe for example

Perhaps we should maintain a lore section so we can keep track of clans and maps and such

Yea I'm with you on this, I'm lost with the politics in the RP. I'm thinking I'm going to create a vassal clan to one of the big clan in the RP (Any suggestions guys ?). My clan would be a sword master family that known teaching swordmanship to the family of the daimyo (Like te Yagyu family). They would start as a vassal clan which has no land or tiny military authority

Feel free to make a vassal for my Pro-Emperor clan if you want to. They are the Komori.

Although while I won't stop you from joining the imperials I'd prefer it if you threw in with the shogunate. My clan is the Katagami, and they're pretty much the only real clan on that side currently in the fight (The Ichikoji are vassels to chosokabe, the Oniware are a loose mercenary faction, and most other characters aren't lords.) The Tsuchimikado are another good choice for that side as they're a smaller coven of monks and mystics that get almost all of their fighting force from appointed vassals.

I think I'm gonna go with siding with the imperial first, as I've explained that my clan would be a small clan (like the Yagyu clan) and new to the politics in Japan, so it would be weird if they join the weak side that opposite the emperor from the beginning. I'll maybe go with Komori or directly to the emperor. But I'll likely switch side and make a move for my own clan when the emperor power is weakened and his retainers leave him.
My clan has 3 main characters so I'll need some time before I can post it up.

Actually, due to the politics of the time it's technically the Emperor who would be rebelling against the shogun. Historically the emperor is more of a spiritual figurehead while the shogun held all the real power until the 1800s

But in this story both sides are considered to be roughly evenly matched on the grand scale, so it doesn't really matter.
