Fantasy Sengoku Jidai: Samurai RP OOC

Judging by the Emperor vs Shogun theme... this would be the Meji restoration, in the mid-late 19th century, no?

I'm pretty sure its around 1600 because we are still using muskets. Well I am using muskets anyway, everyone else is just using normal stabby slashy weapons.

Yeah sengoku is the period from around 1400- 1600 japan

Well by the Meji restoration guns were pretty much everywhere, in use by both sides.... Also wait, I dont understand something. Why would anyone in a Samurai family with power back the Emperor? It seems like he is trying to remove them from power.

I'm pretty sure that lots of families had belief in the divine right of the emperor and so they may believe that who are they to go against the will of god. Also there will be many regional governors who die so it also presents an excellent way to try and advance in status.

In this Rp the emperor is seen to be the decedent of the gods. anyone who values religion or supreme loyalty would support the emperor. Apparently most of the pro-shogun clans are not the nicest people around(some of them may be insane) and so that would alienate many clans as well. In my guys case he wants to become the next shogun so his plan is to support the emperor, kill the old shogun, and become the emperors right hand man.

OK but... my guy wants to become the next Shogun to so his plan is to beat back the Imperial forces (Who assumedly want to abolish the title of Shogun) and then either through political manuvering or superior firepower become Shogun.

Then it looks like my guy will have two rivals.

Name: Chosokabe Aegeria

Age: 35

Gender: male

Appearance:

Family and power:He fights for his own clan, the Chosokabe. A major clan, they, through direct control or minor clan loyalties, own much of the southern island of Kyushu. The clan is a master of ranged weapons. I say ranged weapons in general because they do have a proud, notable tradition with the bow, the musket is being taken up in ever-increasing numbers, especially by the Ashigaru, the peasants of the clan. The port city in Nagahira in the south has been declared open with the outbreak of hostilities and in defiance of the Emperor's Isolation edicts. The Portugese, Spanish, British, Dutch, and Swedes are known to trade with the Chosokabe. The Chosokabe are also perhaps the only clan within Japan to have such knowledge traded with foreigners as to have their own gunsmiths, albeit in small numbers, for now. Being an island nation, they have also built a powerful navy designed to deny an invading army access.
Clan Emblem:

Allegiance: Well... shogun, as he will lose everything if the Imperials win. That said, assuming he could get a proclaimation from the Emperor assuring his family would keep their lands he may well be convinced to defect.

Race: Human

Personality: Aegeria is a brave, loyal warrior who lives Bushido and seeks to fufill it in all of it's forms. His name is one of the most respected in Japan, and he strives to maintain the image of an honorable Samurai.
Bio: Aegeria was born in Perriko(Fictitious), the capital of the Tosa province over which his clan ruled for generations. He was brought up as the son and heir to a powerful clan would be expected to be, learning the art of war, reading ancient and modern literature, and seeking to improve himself as a human being. As he grew into adulthood, he took more and more responsibility within the clan. He commanded his father's armies at age 20, putting down with fitting brutality the rebellion of a minor clan in his father's service who dared try to march upon Perriko. His father was a genius, who's reforms laid the groundwork for the clan's prosperity. At age 32, Aegeria's father passed on and he took over the title of Daimyo. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to continue the reforms of his father, opening the Province more to foreigners, and building up the Chosokabe clan's armies for an eventual expedition to the mainland in support of the Shogun, the rightful ruler of Japan. Or... to become said ruler!

Weapons & Personal Belongings:
They aren't really named, but Aegeria does carry an odachi, a naginata, or a yumi into battle, with, of course, the largely ceremonial katana-wakizashi combo at his side.

I would like to congratulate you on the excellence of your moustache.

looks like that might just be horsehair attached to the mask (which a samurai would not by the way actually wear into battle. Do not worry he still has quite the moustache, as any respectable man of honour must.

I shall endeavour then to keep my face clean of any facial hair.

While the emperor's title has divine significance, during the Sengoku Jidai, the emperor's role had little power. In the case of this RP, it is imperial forces versus the ruling shogunate. Perhaps a better look of how the path from supporting the emperor to shogunate would be using the Emperor's call to arms as an excuse to declare war on other Daimyos. An example of this IRL when Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi used an emperor's claim of legitimacy as an excuse to open war. While this indeed solidified the Emperor's Court, it also established the new shogunate. It looks like this RP will have a stronger emperor.

Story is total work of fiction. Didn't even originally take place in Japan. Makes sengoku basara look like a documentary.
I really just wanted a feel for the era the RP was set in in terms of technology. Anyways, do you like my CS?
