Fantasy Sengoku Jidai: Samurai RP OOC

i have missed so much information and talking lol i wasn't getting notifications from this or the main thread.

Am I the only one who thinks both sides will fall into civil war or maybe the Shogun-Emperor war will even end and this will just become a war between the clans of honor and the clans that are full of daemons and raiders.

We'll save that for the sequel

Sengoku Jidai 2: Everyone's dead, Everything's on fire

Oh, just as a rule of thumb I usually work from 5:30 to around 9:30 EST. So My responses will be slow to nonexistent around that time.

Besieger Camp
Ichikoji Toydaria walked into the meeting. "Greetings, my fellows." He nodded "I am sorry my lord himself cannot join us, but I have sufficient knowledge of the situation. He marches with a great host, and when he arrives the boon of the great Chosokabe army will make victory certain. The chosokabe army is one of the largest in the nation and it's full bulk approaches. I have done some surveying of the surrounding territory and have decided that, if we spread across the entire frontage of the valley, we will be able to hold a solid front and not be enveloped by the defenders. If they sally out, they will be crushed. However, with the... somewhat lackluster nature of some of our enemy commanders, that is possible. Nonetheless, I have great respect for several of our foes, and their cunning may drown out the bluntness of their comrades." He looked towards the castle "We will have to storm the castle. My lord has instructed me how to do this. We simply employ pike and sword to contain them within the castle as the great Chosokabe archers and arquebusers pour fire into their ranks utop the walls. Once they have been sufficiently devastated, we will charge with ladder and take the castle."

Just so I get a handle of how much of the respectful and rigid samurai culture were using, would this be considered rude for a non lord to barge into a meeting of lords and set out what they should do?

I am pretty sure it would be rude

In his mind he is acting on the part of his lord, one of the most pretigious in Japan. It's something along the lines of "surely they will accept a man acting on behalf of the great Chosokabe Aegeria." Combine this with the fact that a lot of the Shogunate lords are... less prestigious than their Imperial counterparts... and he is technically a minor lord, too.

orikanyo has arrived, all rise.

or not.

up to you.

hello.

With friendly introductions out of the way, let us get to the meat of our topic.

what would you say is the reason 3 pigs would gather in the forest during a full moon to dance?

I don't know about the pigs, I do know why I would be there.

Scavenger Scavenger

That infiltration specialist line was my incredibly hamfisted way to try to give you an opening to join the group.

Will it be good enough or would their be a better way?

Now.

what type of person would you imagine upon the shogun's side? merciless and cruel? honorable and thoughtful? paitent and calculating?

Alright. Got a few things coming down the line but for starters, here's this

This is the (tenuous) official map of the war as of september 1560 the (tenuous) official date as of the battle of Chiisagata Valley. Barring anyone taking any particular umbrage with the positioning of forces the red territories will represent the Imperial controlled lands and the blue the shogunate.
Similarly, the points represent important locations. The white point represents Kyoto, the imperial capital, the Yellow point is Edo, the Shogunate Capital, and the black point is Fukashi Castle.

Furthermore, I'm officially abandoning the whole "demon war" backstory thing altogether. Frankly it wasn't well explained and only managed to confuse newcomers to the point that most people just didn't bother acknowledging it. This doesn't mean we're abandoning established fantasy elements, Magic exists, demons are still around, and the shogun still hates them but otherwise just assume the setting is relatively historical. (I.e. muskets are no longer ancient relics, they just come from the Portuguese.)

Also if anyone wants it, I can post a white version of this map for anyone who wants to mark their clan's location.

2nd thing we need to discuss are some of the details as to how we're going to handle some of the finer details of the RP, some of which need to be addressed pretty much immediately since we're going into a battle soon.

1). Should the victor of battles be decided before we begin? Due to the nature of RPing by post, no one can really "Win" a battle unless one side decides to lose. This can sometimes lead to an issue where both sides keep attacking without anything really being gained simply because neither side wants to take a loss. To try to circumvent or at least lessen this, we can put a system in place to decide who's going to win a battle before it starts, either by vote or by random chance via dice rolling. The logic being that knowing your side is supposed to be driven back will put everyone on the same page as to how a battle's supposed to go.

2). The turnover rate. Much less iron clad than above, but how does everyone see the overall death rate of the series going? Rare, with most if not all current characters living all the way to the end, save the odd heroic death. Common, with many officers being traded out as many of our current characters meet some less than dignified ends or somewhere in between?

3). Timescale. Just something I was thinking about last night. A long time ago I ran a relatively successful Dynasty warriors RP, due to the nature of the timeline those games take place in, many characters aged and passed away over the course of that campaign. I remember it made for some strong moments that I still remember fondly even today. So the question I'm posing here is how much in-game time do we see passing in between each battle? While the war is constant, our characters are for the most part lords and so wouldn't concern themselves with every minor skirmish and certainly wouldn't even be able to gather for every battle. To this end we could opt for a more "grand campaign" style campaign, focusing in on major events spread across many months or years rather than constantly following our characters around every day. Each battle would then take months, if not sometimes years apart from each other, with some light mentions as to how our lords were passing their time in between. This would also open the opportunity for the addition of children of our current characters as they would grow into commanding roles of their own.

I hope to hear all of your thoughts on these matters, if you get the chance.

I good with random chance. Turnover rate, I'm definitely ok with seeing some characters die, just that I hope these deaths are in character.

I think that we should be able to decide who wins the battles on the field, perhaps we should do love modded battles? For those who don't know what they are, my previous and successful WWII rp had them and I'll link that for you to see when I'm not on mobile
