Ah, I'd advise against that, D.. Direct hits with the plasma rounds will cause a lot more damage than just laying down a layer of fire on the floor. All Zentraedi armor can fly above it. Plus, smoke is no good against armor because they can see through it like we can.

It's not only about direct damage. Metal floors melt too and they may fall through and hinder their ability to advance. Slow them down enough and it enhances the Killzone gauntlet. More amusingly, you may weld their leg to the floor as well and completely halt the tide for a short time.

I disagree. Even their lowliest battle pods they're flight-capable, can fight well in space, and far more agile than anything we've got. Think of Battle Pods (if these aren't Male Power Armor or something else) as lightly-armored disposable Logan mecha with big particle beam cannons.

I think they're like the Japanese Zeros of World War II; their biggest advantage is their agility and their biggest disadvantage is their thin armor (125 M.D. with no Reinforced Pilot Compartments). Hit them directly and they fly apart.

It's more about stacking hazards and disadvantages for them. Making it harder for them to advance, thus easier for us to keep them in the choke point while we wait for our own reinforcements.

And since when can we see through smoke? Since when can they see through smoke? I can understand seeing a short distance through it, like hand in front of your face kind. But the range needed to fire on a distant enemy?

The smoke canisters are,100 foot plumes of IR smoke. It would indeed envelope a couple mecha.

Also! Consider how high the corridor is.

And, throw a layer of plasma on the ceiling too :p

I don't really know the setting so that comparison is completely lost on me. It just strikes me as somewhat difficult to imagine large Mecha for large people taking flight in a corridor without it being awkward and clumsy. Were it not a corridor and say, a hangar, maybe, sure, but there is a such thing as finite resources. The sheer volume of all these gargantuan constructs is stretching my suspension of disbelief a bit much as it is. Adding even larger compensation for architecture is even worse.

See, Zentraedi Mecha have an infrared sensor that's completely foiled by bad weather and smoke. But they've also got a infrared spotlight that can see right through smoke and bad weather out to 1,000 feet (double that in clear conditions).

Here's what Psychie gave us and what I'm going on:

The drone flies forward nearly silently towards the light, and soon the team can see a large chamber, that is a rough circle five hundred feet across with a ceiling just under one hundred feet high. There are two other openings out of the room, each one the same size as the one you are in now.

So, barring cover, it seems to me their spotlights can see the entire room. So, if we spend our time putting up a big wall of smoke and think they can't spot us, I think we're going to pay for that in a bad way. That's why Gabi is staying aloft behind cover. She thinks she's going to need it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not willing to take that chance with my character. The battle has already started. I'm not depending on reinforcements to show up. With the intel we've got, it sounds to me like it's us against them and our reinforcements will be here whenever they get here. But I'm just one of many here. =)

IR is going to be completely shot by the addition plasma fire though. All they will see is white hot heat everywhere.

Also IR smoke reflects Infrared light. An IR spotlight wouldnt go through it, I don't think.

Also! The Spartas are cover! Especially in battloid mode.

I just looked at it, 100 by 100 might fit one hunched battle pod if the cockpit is designed to house a 40ft pilot. And nothing else.

Edit, correction 500 feet wide can fit probably 2 or 3 but not at full standing height, much less flying.

Per Robotech: Macross Saga, a Battle Pod is 57 feet tall and 26 feet wide (again, if they are Battle Pods). Your call, guys. Unless Conway orders otherwise, Gabi is going to focus on destroying these guys, not impeding them. Either way, I'm going to have fun. =)

Nope! The pilots squish in their limbs and stay in that position for the entire flight. Remember, Zentraedi are disposable battle clones made by the millions with an average lifespan of 3 years (in combat) and much, much longer outside of combat. Their mecha and power armor are made for offense, cheap and easy to produce, and despite their limitations, they do what they do very well. =)

One important difference between the picture above and Robotech: Macross Saga statistics are the lower barrels below the pilot. In the picture, they are referred to as beam cannons while in the Palladium book, they are short range 22.3mm auto-cannons with 500 rounds each (40 bursts).

Flaming oil sprays onto the lead Officer Pods, but you are not entirely sure if they are taking Mega Damage from the fires or if the flames are just a normal SDC fire. Either way, the explosion has distracted them, and it has put off their attack for a moment.

So, tactically-speaking, that attack cost them an action or two? Are some of them bunched up as a result?

All right! That makes my day! The more actions they spend confused, the less actions they spend killing us! *celebrates with a big bowl of fat-free frozen yogurt dashed with almonds* Wooo! =)

The Battle Pods behind the remaining two Glaugs are all bunched up...

Hey, Third Heavy Recon! Is it time now for some serious AoE or what!? They came for a butt-kickin' - I say let's give it to 'em! =)

Gang? They're packed together. We can make the most of this by firing area-of-effect weapons like missiles and certain cannon rounds (if you want to). =)

Well... If the surprise round counts as part of the current melee round, I can't fire the main gun anymore. Deunan and Marlon are also without AoE rounds altogether. Unfortunately... depending on the ruling regarding the melee round, we get 1 or 3 chances at landing AoE shells. Speaking only for those of us in a Spartas, of course.

Then Alan gets one chance to land an MPAT or Plasma, and Neo has two shots.

*correction, both get one more shot from the main cannon

That, and along with Gabi and Ryuko, we should be able to splash them all before they can even get out of the tunnel.
