Kaiden looked at Ezekiel when he turned to look back, seeing his arms crossed over his chest, and his eyes going to the floor. He sighed heavily and pushed a hand through his hair. That rough voice made Kaiden pause for a moment. He headed over to the window, standing opposite him and looked out over the area. "Sunsets are just as beautiful as sunrises." Kaiden commented as he leaned against the wall near the window. He looked back at him. "I know our presence is not comforting, and.. I noticed that you didn't trust Theo with Alex. Would you prefer we find somewhere else to rest?"

Alex looked at Theo, and listened to him, chuckling a little. "I've met a couple people like that." He said with a small smile. "Kai sounds like a good friend though. And as for Ezekiel? I'm not sure. Normally I'd say yes, but he seems to be different around Kaiden." Alex admitted as he sighed heavily. "I've never seen him act so angry around others like he does around him."

Kaiden was such an interesting man. Interesting? No, of course not. Interesting made it sound like he even moderately could tolerate someone like that. Someone so selfish. So irresponsible. He turned back to the window where now they both looked out at the darkening sky. Sunsets and sunrises. “Yes. They are.” He stared out the window for a while. After Kaiden spoke again. Longer than that as he thought about it. Finally, still looking out the window, he replied, “I do not trust anyone.” This was not exactly true. He trusted all of their people back home. It was the wolves that he did not trust. He had no reason to trust Theo, though he trusted him enough now to leave Alex alone. He closed his eyes. He was failing yet again, wasn’t he? “Where you rest does not matter to me.” His words were unnecessarily harsh.

Theo thought about that. “So you’re saying he’s like… a decent person and not the ready to argue little bit of a jerk normally?” he asked it with a smile just to make sure that Alex knew he was joking. Well, sort of. Ezekiel was kind of a jerk. He was the one starting most of the fights after all.

Kai looked at him, hearing that and was shocking at first. Almost like they were similar. Until he heard his words. "That seems.. a bit.. much." He muttered, as he crossed his arms and turned to face Ezekiel. Then his next words, some that were unnecessarily harsh if he was being honest. "Clearly it seems to matter, you left the moment we decided to rest beside you and your brother." He said, watching him. "So, if you don't want to lay with the dogs, then we'll move on." He added, his own tone a little harsher than it had been.

Alex nodded, seeing that smile. "Yeah, I mean. I've never seen him like this before." He admitted, looking down the hall. "I just hope that this doesn't turn into another fight." He added, his voice a little worried at the two of them alone.

Despite having been the one to be harsh first, Kaiden’s own hardened words made Ezekiel look away from the window and towards him. No. Not look. His eyes cut to him. There he was. The one he knew was in there. No sunsets and sunrises could hide that. Throwing words like mutts back in his face. He breathed in and his nostrils flared just a little. So arrogant. So demanding. “Maybe it is not the pack that bothers me but the pup.” He thought about looking away, but he wanted to see the reaction. He was sure that whatever the other did would prove the point.

Theo looked down the hall too. “I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who argues like they do. And I’ve met Brian. Brian can argue with anyone.” He reached out a hand and set it on Alex’s arm. “It’s gonna be okay. If they decide to argue again, I’m sure we’ll hear it and I’ll interrupt them and drag their butts back to this blanket and make them sleep it off.”

He saw that quick look, heard the breath in, and heard his words. Kaiden's stance shifted, his arms uncrossing and dropping to his sides as his fists clenched. "If it's just me that bothers you then why do you not trust Theo either? And I'm not a pup.. I'm a wolf." He said, his voice much lower and harsher than it had been moments ago. "So you'd better watch your words before I give you more scars.. scar." Kaiden all but growled out his words. Yeah.. he really did not like to let anyone having the last word and especially not Ezekiel.

Alex listened to him, and snorted a laugh. He felt the hand set on his arm and nodded, smiling at him. "You'd do that?" He asked, his eyes wide and clearly not expecting that answer from a wolf. It was still so weird to him to find wolves that were so nice.

Ezekiel turned so that his body was more in line with Kaiden’s almost as though all of him begged for this man to keep going. How far was he willing to push this? “Because the litter mates are all raised the same way.” He did not even dignify it with a glare. His head hurt too much to give him so much of the little energy he had left. But that word. Term. Unkind slur. That was one of the worst things he had ever heard. “Why don’t you run off with your puppy playdate and leave me alone? I’m sure your father is missing you.” He slung the words at him like projectiles. He turned away like if he could look out the window, everything else would disappear. The world was so much darker now. He missed so much of the sun’s descent with wasted time on this one.

“Well yeah. They clearly need a mediator. I don’t know why they can’t just be civil.” Theo rolled his eyes and he rolled onto his back. They were too still for too long. “And they clearly also just need to cool off. There’s no reason to let them be stupid. They need someone to remind them not to be stupid.” Theo would do that for any of his buddies but specifically Kai. Kai needed him to remind him to chill.

Kaiden glared at Ezekiel, hearing his words. “I’m not..” He huffed, struggling to find the words. They were raised the same yes, but they were two different people. Kaiden was Kaiden and Theo was Theo. They might get along very well, like brothers but in the end they were different. “We are our own people.” He finished though his eyes flashed at the next word. “Don’t bring my father into this. And we aren’t on a play date. Though maybe we’ll just take Alex with us if we leave. He doesn’t deserve a person like you to hang out with. You’ll make him as harsh and rude as you.”

Alex sighed as he smiled. “Then thank you. I agree. They need someone there to make sure things don’t get too bad.” Alex nodded as he thought about how quiet it was. “I’m concerned though, it’s kind of quiet.”

Words were words, and for the most part, Ezekiel could pay them no mind. People could say all amounts of things that came for many reasons. High emotions and stress were so often the culprit of vile actions. For the most part, he could push them aside. They were explainable. They were fine. But as Kaiden spoke, he felt the blood inside of him boiling. Alex. He didn’t even think. He closed that gap between them, hand ramming into Kaiden’s chest and shoving him against the wall. It didn’t even make that much sound. “Don’t you dare touch him,” he hissed in a voice not much louder than a whisper. “He is not yours. He does not belong with those who cannot appreciate the land that gives them the breath of life.” He moved so that they were barely inches apart. Maybe one. “Do not think that I have forgotten who you are because he does not wish you harm. He is kind and young. He values your life more than he should.” His voice caught. “You will not be the reason that he changes.”

Theo agreed that it was awfully quiet for how the two of them usually were. “Maybe it’s because they’re actually getting along? talking about something normal and usual?” That seemed highly unlikely. Unless they found something in common. Still seemed unlikely. He sighed. “Think I should go check on them?”

Kaiden had about a moment to think when he saw Ezekiel move and then a hand rammed into his chest. He felt the wall hit into his back, jarring an old muscle injury. A clenched jaw and hiss of pain. He’d fallen a year ago and hurt his back and it didn’t heal quite right. Being shoved into the wall like this aggravated that tissue. It was quiet though, and his voice was no louder than a whisper. Ah. So that was his soft spot. Good. “I will not change him from who he is now. Being around someone so easily out of control will change him. He’d be better with us and he’d be safer with the pack than a rogue like yourself.”

Alex snorted and shook his head. “Somehow I doubt that. Maybe you should go check on them.” Alex said, nervousness creeping in his voice.

Rogue. How dare he? How dare this wolf so much as think that he may understand the complexities of being a Seraphite. A rogue. A rogue out of control. Ezekiel pushed a little bit harder, taking that little space and cutting it in half. Maybe he was the brute they said he was after all with all those muscles. All that power. All the anger he never knew he had. “Bite your tongue, pup, or I will make good on promises I made to my people.” His eyes roamed the body before him for just a moment. “Why I thought saving you was smart, I still do not know. Of all the wolves, I clearly chose the most feral of mutts. The roguest of them all.”

Theo groaned, rolled over to one side, rolled to the other side, threw his hands up, and then groaned again before sitting up. “Alright, alright, I’ll go make sure we haven’t lost one of them.” He stood up and stretched. “Wish me luck?” And then he started walking down the hall to find the lost boys.

Kaiden felt that little bit harder of a push and he growled, his hands moving to land on his chest. Pushing back. “Stop calling me pup!” He bit out, pushing harder against him. His eyes flashed at the comment. Feral? Rogue?! Kaiden was niether of those. “You touch me again, and I’ll take those hands off.” He threatened. And just because he could. “And then I’ll take Alex and train him in our ways. You’re right. He is young. He’ll learn fast.” He did not think of anything else right now other than not letting this fight end on anyone’s terms but his own.

Alex watched him, heard him groan before he sat up. At least one of them could try and stop a fight. “Good luck.” Alex said, watching Theo walk away. He feared that those two were fighting again. And he didn’t realize how right he was.

There was something dangerous about Kaiden. Those fiery eyes and his quick tongue left welts and burns on his skin and being alike. He could not take his eyes off of the man whether that was because of mistrust or something else, Ezekiel was unsure. He didn’t care. All he could feel was the fury that came with this wolf’s presence. His words he thought so wise. Hands that pushed him back enough to make him have to catch his breath again. The audacity might have been appealing had it also not been infuriating. The threat could have been intriguing if it were not followed by a whole different kind of threat. Then he snapped. His hand rammed into Kai’s throat, fingers wrapped around it far too firmly than they should. Shoved against him and wall. He could not speak if Ezekiel cut off that ability. “I told you to stay away from him. He is not your toy. Your plaything. If you go near him, I will not be so kind as to let you play at making friends with your enemies.” From somewhere close down the hall, Theo’s voice rang out, “Kai? Ezekiel? You guys having a nice, civilized chat or…” Ezekiel still glared at Kaiden harder than he had ever. Something captivating about this man in the worst kind of way. “Maybe you and your monger should find somewhere else to go.”

Kaiden knew he’d hit home when he used Alex as a target. He was always good at reading people. But as the hand rammed into his throat, he let out a strangled gasp. Hands came up to grasp on the one that had cut his words off. He clawed at the hand, glaring at Ezekiel. He opened his mouth trying to suck in air. The injury to his back getting jarred again. He coughed and glared. “T- This is h- how you ru- ruin your brothers ki- kindness.” He pushed out, taking short gasps between words. “Ac- Acting like a b- brute. Letting y- your anger cl- cloud your actions..”

“Because I’m sure all this quiet definitely means you’re getting along and not at all being problems.” Theo’s voice rang through the rooms like chimes. A warning bell. Ezekiel huffed in Kaiden’s face. They were so very close. He could almost taste the sweat between them. “Do not speak to things you do not understand, pup,” he growled. “You do not know me or my people. You do not know anything about us. You may have fooled Alex. You may have fooled your pack and your brother, but you do not fool me.” With his other hand, he pushed on Kaiden’s chest, aware of when he winced in pain and therefore reminding him of that. “You do not wish to learn who we are. You do not want to be friends.” He gave one last push on both throat and chest as he moved away and swiftly walked to the door. Theo walked through the hall looking into the rooms. He looked at Ezekiel just in time to get shoulder checked. He blinked and stumbled forward. That seemed bad. He poked his head into the other room to see Kai. “You… good?”

Kaiden could hear Theo, but he was still trying to get Ezekiel’s hand off his throat. He felt the breath from the huff. His teeth clenched as he was stunned into silence but his words. The curiosity of just what he supposedly was simmered below the surface. He felt the shove on his chest again, his back hurting worse. He heard his words and even still, he wanted to learn about them, be friends. Nothing would stop that. He winced at the shove to his throat and chest as he slammed back into the wall. He watched Ezekiel move away and head for the door as he saw Theo poke his head in. “No. That.. brute slammed my back into the wall, re-injuring that muscle issue from that fall last year, remember the one where I was basically stuck in bed for a whole week because it was so bad?” Kai said, rubbing his neck as he caught his breath finally.

Theo moved into the room, hands like he might need to catch Kai if he fell. Pushed him into the wall? “Oh my god, did he hurt you?” Of course he did. He was so worried that something like this would happen. That guy was a wildcard. He looked over his shoulder like he could see Ezekiel. He couldn’t. This was too much for them to have to deal with. “That is not okay. Kai, we can’t do this. We can’t deal with people like that. There is no being buddies with someone who attacks you!” He took a step towards the door but looked back at Kai. What was he supposed to do?

Ezekiel stomped down the hall until he was closed to Alex and then he slowed his movement. Slowed his breathing. Calmed himself. He closed his eyes and let that wash over him. Let the earth bring him peace. Thought of Her and Her grace. When he reached Alex, he opened his eyes. Smiled. “How are you feeling?” None of the anger and edge was in his voice. He was only Ezekiel. The normal one that Alex knew.

Kaiden was frozen in place. His injury was to his lower back, just above his waist and below his shoulders. He wanted to move, to walk, but if he did, it would hurt and without support, he’d fall. “It was my fault Theo. I goaded him on, I threatened to take Alex away with us. It’s not.. it wasn’t his fault. But.. I think we might need to head home.” The pain that lanced across his back was horrible, memories of that fall echoing across his mind. “I need.. I need Jacob. And I..” I want dad. Kai looked at his brother, unsure of how to go from here.

Alex looked up when he heard footsteps and saw Ezekiel enter. He saw the smile and smiled back. Though he frowned when he saw him alone. “I’m better, still sore and there’s a little pain. Where.. where are Kai and Theo?” Alex asked, shifting a little to look at him.

This was bad. Theo wished that he could have seen what happened. For Kai to immediately turn around and say that this was his fault, that was a big deal. What happened? Theo felt like he was not going to be able to ask. Not now or here. Not with whatever was going on between him and Ezekiel. Because something weird was happening. Kai had a temper. He was often so angry. But he wasn’t angry like this. The constant anger. The constant argument. And he never decided that it was his fault instead of the other person. “It’s dark.” Theo pointed to the window. “Do you want to go back in the dark?” He looked back at the doorway. “Do you wany to stay here?” With him? Theo really liked Alex. He was so fun and cute. He didn’t want to leave him with someone so dangerous. “But what about Alex? Can we leave him?”

Ezekiel sat down next to him and leaned down so that he was little more on Alex’s level. “That’s good.” It really was. All Ezekiel wanted was for Alex to feel better. His breath paused at the mention of the other two. He did not look that direction. “They’re still back there. Talking about something.” About him. He had no doubt. He tried not to think about his fury. He could not show that part of him to Alex. Not again.

Kaiden looked at Theo, hearing him and looked out the window. "I don't want to, but I.. I don't know if we can stay here either. Maybe you should grab our packs and meet me back here? Once I lay down, it'll be morning by the time I can get back up again." Kaiden said as he sighed, then heard him. "Alex will be fine with Ezekiel. He won't hurt him. I don't think he could." He said, clenching his teeth together as he sighed.

Alex looked at him as he sat down next to him. He caught that breath pause as he mentioned the wolves and his eyes narrowed. "Ezekiel.. what happened?" He asked, far more intuitive then most his age. He had a feeling something happened but he was not so sure what.

Theo nodded but he didn’t like this. He didn’t like what was happening. “Kai, we don’t have to do this. Not with him. We can go back home and think of something else to do. Work on repairing your relationship with your dad.” He should have known that this was too ambitious an idea. They were trying to do too much. Far too much. They had the worst ideas! Except that they were the best ideas? Ugh, this was so hard. “Okay. Give me a second. I’ll go get the packs. But I’m leaving the blanket. I don’t want to move Alex.” He gave Kai another look and sighed as he moved towards the door to grab the packs.

Ezekiel did not want to answer that. He didn’t want to tell him that he yet again got angry and started an argument. well, maybe Kaiden started it? He didn’t know honestly. He froze a moment. “We argued.” Obviously. “I don’t think he’s going to want to stay with us anymore.” He closed his eyes. “I’m sorry.”

Kaiden had only one problem with stopping what they were trying to do, he found Ezekiel interesting. So much anger, a temper that matched and even went a step above Kai's own. He'd never had such interactions with others. Being the son of Hayden, not many people would match him temper for temper, or even lay a hand on him. He didn't realize that he actually liked it in a weird way. "I don't want to stop, we've come so far, even having a civil conversation earlier. And okay. And that's fine. Blanket or not, I doubt I'll get much sleep tonight."

Alex looked at him, hearing that and sighed, shaking his head. "You broke your promise. Even if he started it, you didn't have to retaliate." He said, not able to do much physically to show his upset nature, but his eyes showed he was upset, and a frown graced his face.

Theo sighed. This was no good. He really thought that this would have gone better. How could it have gone so badly? Sure, they argued, but everything was going okay. They were maybe seeing each other’s perspective. He wasn’t sure. Theo moved down the hall to the other two.

The shame he felt at that statement was beyond anything he had ever felt before. “I tried. I didn’t want to. I tried to ignore him. But he-“ He shook his head. “He-“ no, he would not continue. He would not dwell on it. Instead, he sat by Alex, head falling onto his knees that he brought up to his chest. He wrapped his arms around his legs. “I’m sorry,” he repeated, quieter. Theo made his way back. He was quiet as well. So Kai undoubtedly told him what happened. “Um, I’m just… gonna grab the packs.” He slowly reached for his and then Kai’s. “I, uh, I think we’re… we’re gonna rest… over.. there.” As Ezekiel thought would happen. He did tell him to leave. He could not be shocked. Theo hesitated. “I- I’m sorry.” Then he hurried away and back to Kai. Ezekiel puffed out a breath of air. There was enough sorry to go around it seemed.

Theo slipped back into the room and groaned. “It’s rough back there too. I don’t think Alex is very happy with him either.”

Kaiden stayed still, watching Theo leave. This was not going as well as he'd thought it would've but he also didn't think it was going that bad either. Perhaps.. fighting was needed? They were so different after all, such different beliefs and lives. How could Kaiden think they could even be friends? He was broken from his thoughts as he heard Theo's groan when he entered the room once more. Poor Alex. "I.. I shouldn't have been so.." Kaiden paused, then held out a hand. "I need help laying down, my back is stiff and I can't move it well." Kai all but asked for help.

Alex looked at him, seeing him wrap his arms around legs that were pulled to his chest, head on his knees. He heard that comment, the fact that he tried. Even Alex knew that both men were at fault, it was not just one or the other. His face clearly showed how upset he was, as he looked up, seeing Theo and hearing him. "Oh.. okay. Good night." Alex mumbled, watching him grab the packs and hurry off. "I'm going to get some sleep too. Good night Ezekiel." Alex said as he turned onto his other side, facing away from his brother even as he let out a soft gasp from the motion. Nope. His back was to his friend, his eyes closed as he tried to get some sleep.

Theo set the packs down before slipping his arm around Kai and helping him onto the floor. The other place was a much better place to rest, and he wished they could just go there. But it must have been bad if Ezekiel was going to start actual physical altercations. Once Kai was on the ground, Theo sat next to him. “Okay. What actually happened?” Now that they were away from it all, they could think about it. They could think about why Kai felt so bad about this.

“Alex…” But was there a reason for them to even talk? What would Ezekiel say? He just sat there. He sat there and tried not to think about the only thing that sat on his mind. So instead he didn’t say anything else. He just sat there. Out of control. This is how you ruin your brother’s kindness. By shoving people into walls. So instead he stood up and walked away. Again.

Kaiden moved slowly, clenched teeth as he appreciated Theo’s help. He sighed, laying down on his side and looked at him. “Well. I started by asking him if we should rest elsewhere because he clearly seemed uneasy around us. But.. then he said rather harshly that it didn’t matter where we stayed. Which in turn made me tell him that if he didn’t want to lay with the dogs then we’d move on.” Kaiden started as he sighed, thinking about their encounter.

Alex heard Ezekiel even as he turned away. He felt a tear track down his face. Alex heard Ezekiel get up and walk off and a soft sob slipped from his lips.
