Dice Exalted 3rd: Salt and Blood

I just found this thread and have been dying to play Exalted 3rd edition since I have seen the system If you still have room I'll polish off one of my concepts and post my character in a bit.

I am intrested in this game. Currently at work right now, but I'll post my character concept when I am off.

Is everyone cool with Aranni being young? I know having a twelve-thirteen year old character in the circle might throw some people.

I don't mind her being young, but I think I would mind her being childish. She doesn't seem the sort to be that, though.

She can be childish, especially when excited, but she has grown up a bit. She's self sufficient and competent, but not necessarily experience or wise.

I updated Taminoko's sheet, bringing it closer to completion. If anyone has feedback, I'd love to read it :)

Here are the two things at first run-through I have to question:

- For a Presence Supernal and high Performance focused Zenith, why do you only have Charisma 2?

- The Watchmen's Eye charm... I get the Investigation 3 because Taminoko has qualified for the All-Seeing Eye, but I don't think she's going to be regularly taking Case Scene or Profile Character actions. Or rather, she will be doing the latter, but those tend to be of her own direction and not triggered by the GM. It's an active thing for her, I would think, not reactive.

1) Because I can only have two high social attributes, and the Realm is a place that rewards Manipulation far more than Charisma. I did consider a 3/3/5 spread, or perhaps even throwing bonus points at it, but it hurts my wrinkled, black min-maxer's heart to do so.

2) Profiling characters is indeed something I expect her to do quite a bit of, and Watchman's Eye is a way of making sure I don't miss important characters. Plus, taking extra generalized spotting skills never hurt anyone.

rare ant-pirate sweep
What Exalted really need are ant-pirates.

Sight and Swords seem like rather broad and non-thematic specialties. In principle (I suck at actually living up to this), I think specialties should be things that are more fun, like "when at sea" or "while hurling insults."

Mechanically, I'd be grabbing a whole lot more 5's in my Abilities if I were you, but I'm clearly not.

Do you actually have a ship? Your Merits don't seem to cover it.

I'd grab at least one or two social charms if I were you, you need something to keep those rowdy pirates under control.

What exactly is "the Law of the Sea"?

1) Yes, well, typo.

2) True, but it's not always easy to come up with fun specialties.

3) Again, I would if I could but I wanted to cover the appropriate spread of abilities and those 28 only stretch so far. *cries*

4) Ships can come and go (if the GM is devilish), which is why I left it out of the merits. The crew is the critical part.

5) Something for the purchase list, I suppose. Again, trying to cover the proper spread and Supernal with only 15 charms. *cries again*

6) In retrospect, I realized that was something I had trouble defining. But "I respect no laws" doesn't carry the same poetic nature. Help?

1) But an amusing one! :D

2) This is also true. And it's not always something very useful. Still, something to think about.

3) And you're not even the one trying to also cover a comprehensive Dynastic education! Good thing bonus points have a great return on investment when placed in favored Abilities.

4) That's one way of looking at it. My view is more that a crew is something you can always pick up with a promise of loot and stuff to do, and your old crew want to spend their hard earned cash. But if you don't have your own ship, you're not much of a captain.

5) That list grows ever longer

6) Maybe something along the line "there is no higher authority than a captain at the helm."

Also, is Gallon's hatred of the Realm fierce enough that he would be unable to work with Taminoko? She's not exactly one to hide her upbringing, though I could tweak her in that direction if it's a problem.

4) Let's see what the ST thinks.

6) Oh, that is lovely. Thank you!

It's not seriously worse than the average Tengese stance towards the Realm. Anyway, individual stuff can trump her background. And maybe I give her a little more leeway on the grounds of 'not inhibiting the party formation.'

6) You're welcome :) Of course, most sailors would count the weather gods higher or maybe daan'ad, but Gallon strikes me as a bit mroe arrogant than most. Plus, Exalt ;)

*nodnod* not inhibiting party formation is important. And she's really a very pleasant person to work with. And also pretty, which helps with most things.

One might argue that they're less of a superior authority and more of potent individuals that it's wise to placate. But yeah, EXALT.

Hold on what the hell...I wasn't getting any update lol sorry for the long wait. I'll read through all the posts etc...I thought for making the game I would get updates all the time, doesn't seem to be the case.

Alright let see, a rundown on questions , comments and the likes:

@Sabre Ashe Not much to comment at the moment since it is WIP.

@riverzands An-teng is mostly controlled by the Realm...I mean , I can approve the 4 arms but you are definitely going to have a very hard time moving around An-teng without involving some people who are going to hunt your character.

@vinom I don't have a problem with young characters. Guess worth mentioning that the way I see Yu-Shan, Sidereals don't talk about their politics with most people and usually present themselves as agents of heaven. Especially someone like Little Beam doesn't have a lot of political information or even interest in what's going on Yu Shan would have a limited knowledge but at least know about the gold/bronze faction divide.

@Blackadder Ships can indeed come and go depending on the situation but usually, that's mostly why people go under a captain, it is because they believe the captain can protect his ship and crew. You can start without one, if you want to go with the idea of having your ship recently and acquiring one in game will definitely be possible.

@Esbilon Guess if you are interested about the government politics and Gods of an-teng stuffs worth knowing:

-Some Tengese took the Empress as their new High-Queen since the DB killed most of the main royal line. With the Empress missing for a little while now...can guess what most people are thinking.

-The Princes of an-teng don't have sorcerous or physical powers funny enough, they have generals for these kind of stuffs.

-Women own the land, men do their bidding.

-An-Teng is a convenient Holiday resort for the Princes of the Earth, so most DBs you will meet are the ones who come here to have fun with locals indulging in all vices, brothels, drugs (since they aren't illegal) etc...Expert courtesans in An-teng have the social status as expert craftsmen (men and women).

-People of An-teng often communicates with their ancestor ghosts and some of them even help when they can.

-Two Major gods in An-Teng: The Pale Mistress and the Golden Lord. They even still have some temples in some places. The Golden Lord represents order, stability, fertily, rulership and the Pale Mistress represents Entropy, chaos, the fall of kingdoms and diseases. Most people worships the Golden Lord and some people sometimes call the Pale Mistress out of vengeance and the likes and she often agrees to most requests.

So what sort of merit should I use to represent the ship then, since it sounds like I should make the change.

If you want to start with a regular ship (nothing fancy and probably need some repairs) , won't cost you anything and you can of course improve it with your charms.

If you want a more battle ready ship resources 2 seems reasonable enough.

Other option is two dots in artifact for a ship with one or two minor special abilities.

The folding ship page 603, Is a four dot artifact.

"This ocean-going vessel has a hull of strong, gold-tinged wood and brilliant white sails. It requires no crew: the ship handles its own sail, bilge and maintenance. It needs only a captain. From the helm, the captain can verbally command the rest of the ship using her Sail skill. At its owner’s command, this ship can fold itself up in a visual spectacle, completing the one-minute process as a 1’ x 6” x 6” box that weighs 20 pounds. It takes just as long

for the boat to unfold. The ship has the traits of a standard, non-magical vessel decided at the time of its creation or purchase—several models of folding ships were created in the long-ago days when the Exalted made such wonders, from fast couriers to war triremes. The vessel repairs all damage if it spends one full day as a box. The captain must commit seven motes to use this artifact"

Just need to finish spending BP and then I can write my background and help flesh out the character. Otherwise you'd have 4 different background descriptions for the character as I change my minds and move dots.

The folding ship is four dots because it is a very practical artifact , you can walk around with a ship in your pocket...literally. Mostly the utility and portability of the folding ship makes up for it.

@Sabre Ashe alright just let me know if you have any questions and the likes.

Ok, mostly done, just got 6bp left to spend. Holding those to work on a custom artifact with you. I may need to trade out one or two points if I don't have enough for it. The artifact would be a ring, but it's special thing is it would be a poisoner's ring. I would definitely spend the 4bp to give it an evocation which would allow me to spend motes in order to create a poison (the quantity and potency of which we'd have to work on). I believe I'm looking at 7bp right there because it would be at least a 3 dot artifact.

Most likely would make it a snake venom, Green Jade would need to be the basic material.

Probably just from the top of my head Essence 1, 1m, Simple, duration: special (see snake venom poison rules)

It would be one dose.
