It wasn't long before one of the workers came to get the two Hollows. They were taken into the main room of the secret facility, where they found a screen with Father on the other end. "Good to see you two again. I've got some interesting news that I thought you might want to know." Carnifex tilted his head slightly. "What about the mission?" "Scrubbed, for now, for more than one reason. The biggest and most important being that the Department is crawling over the Marina and Lab incident like flies of a bloated corpse. I've had eyes on both scenes reporting that the Department has officially taken both cases, and that there might have been a witness to the Marina Op." Carnifex looked over at his brother, recalling that strange feeling that something had been watching him. He had blown it off until this point, but apparently his gut had been right.
"What do you need us to do?" Carnifex contemplated the options that were presented. Of course a full on assault on the Department headquarters was out of the question, but a few raids on the agents it employed could be fun. "Right now I need you two to stay on ready status and high alert, we might need use of you two at anytime. I have assets out ghosting the Department, but they are staying in the shadows. No direct contact or infiltration just yet. If something happens you two will be the QRF(Quick Reaction Force), it could mean taking down a single agent or a group, so I've pulled some strings to get some important materials sent your way. From this point on, though, you will receive orders from the Dutchman. Over and out." Carnifex turned to Vortigas. "Well, looks like we're getting Christmas early this year. Come on, lets get to the pit(training room) and get some practice in."
Father turned his chair around to look at the five others in the room. "They will be ready encase we need them." One of the others, an older man around sixty with a long grey beard, spoke up. "Can we trust these Hollows enough to cover our tracks?" "Yes," Father replied, "I have full confidence in those two. Now that they have the stems on route they should be better equipped if they make contact with the Department." Another, this one the scientist father had spoken with before, chimed in. "What about our work? Now that the Department is on our trail we cannot afford a breach into our facility!" The man's Dutch accent was thick, but he spoke clearly enough to get his point across to the whole room. "The Hollows are good, but they are not enough to tackle the whole Department, even if they functioned at one hundred percent of their limits. I say we activate..." Father cut the man off mid sentence. "I will not have the Shadows involved just yet. There is no need to awaken them until the facility in the Black Forest is operational. Then, and only then, would I consider awakening them. They are not assets to be used lightly." The Dutchman sat back down, stroking his beard. "How long until it is Operational?" Father smiled underneath his balaclava. "Within the month. I trust you all will be able to handle things here without me correct?"
The other members of the council all stirred at this announcement. "But sir," the Dutchman started, "you are leaving us?" "That has been the plan all along. I was only here to over see the creation and development of the Hollows. Once operational they were to be left in your care to provide the distraction I needed to set up the Black Forest site. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've a plane to catch."
