Fantasy Department of Defense Against the Supernatural

Piper nodded. "Sanja, is it an Abomination of some sort?"
"No," was Sanja's immediate response. "This didn't start with a spirit. It didn't even start with the Dreamscape."

Piper nodded. "Okay. Sanja, Fred, do you two want to help make up some enchantments or something to protect those who aren't sick yet? Or do you want to help track down the source?" Piper then turned to the others. "Alexander, Shylock, Justin. You'll be assisting the quarantine efforts. Kyuma, you're with me trying to find the source. I imagine Galleytrot will be here shortly to help us."
"Yes, Ma'am!" Kyuma said. In his head, however, his response was a bit more drawn out.

'Im going to work with you? Alone? Together!? F**KING-A! Heck yea!' He even had a bit of an inner monologue dance prepared, which he was careful not to let slip into reality.

''Ok. So the first one to reach score 1000 wins. Does that go well with you?'' asked Evan-Dor. He was ready for action. He covered his body in a powerful force-field. Just in case the ball hit him.

A blind man appeared behind Piper. He was very athletic and wore sunglasses. A lot of people seemed to like to appear behind her for some reason. ''Ah, Miss Piper. Fancy meeting you here'' said Ethan on a deep but friendly tone. Of course given his supernatural senses he could feel it was Piper as she had a unique ...odor. ''Do you remember me? Ethan Adams...police inspector. I was asked to ...take a look as well'' he added.

Wednesday looked at Rowan, and Caden did too. She had actually been in the middle of moving closer to the panicking man when he breathed fire at her, making Caden immediately stumble backwards.

"Caden, stay." The ghost girl said, checking to make sure her zombie counterpart was okay. Then she turned back to Rowan, "Yes, I am a ghost. Boo, or whatever." She said, unenthusiastically. "Caden is my other half. After I died, my body turned into a zombie. Don't hurt her and she won't hurt you. Of course, if you hurt her I promise you'll have bigger things to worry about." Wednesday's words were threatening, but her voice still sounded.... bland, like she didn't really mean what she said, almost.

Alexander continued taking people to the quarantined area, but now as the sun hung low on the horizon he wondered how many more healthy people there were. He'd gone nearly half an hour now in the city without finding a single person who showed no symptoms. Needless to say his work had slowed way down. Deciding something in his mind, he turned to head back to Piper. They needed to stop focusing on this city and focus on the cause. That's the only thing that could help.

@Sleipnir (Eventually)

This newest murder scene at the marina came to Greyston's attention much more quickly. It was late afternoon, about the time when most of the ships were coming in to dock. Some of the boaters and fisherman had seen what happened outside of the building, and were warning others not to dock there. They didn't know what they had seen, but what they all knew was that they did NOT want to get involved.

Having received a call from a 911 dispatcher, Greyston sighed. What was he to do? Go out now. He'd tried standing again and was getting much closer, but he still wasn't in good enough shape to walk around the department building, let alone fight whatever monster was out there.

Patching a call to one of his other agents who he knew would always be around, he asked the man if he could go out and investigate. "Don't get to close, though, your face looks so good now, it would be a shame to see it all cut up and in the morgue."

The old man agreed, and headed out to the marina. He got there just after the murders occurred. Switching over to become invisible, Hitoshi Fuse wandered inside, trying to get a look at what exactly they were dealing with, here. Usually, when he was invisible he was more than just unable to be seen, his scent and any noise he made would be undetectable as well- by most creatures, that is.

Piper turned sharply to Ethan. "Vaguely," she replied. "Police inspector, yeah? We could use some help figuring out the source of the issue here. If you'd like to help, that'd be fantastic." She glanced at Kyuma, honestly wondering how long it would be before the boy said something else she disapproved of. She then looked back at Ethan. "Do you have a team with you?"

Shylock seemed fairly unenthused about the work himself. "No one," he said flatly. "Everyone is sick. What if it isn't reversed when your team figures out what caused it?" He looked at Alexander. "The entire city will have been wiped out."

@Sleipnir @Kalin Scarlet

''Usually I would. But since this case seems to have something to do with the supernatural as well...I was sent alone'' replied Ethan. Yes, he was the member of the ''normal'' police, but he himself wasn't exactly normal. He used his enhanced senses to search the surroundings. He got a strong vibe from the Hormonesapiens (Kyuma) near Piper, but that had little importance. ''That kid should learn to control himself, but I guess you can't fight the laws of nature'' he thought to himself. ''Hmm... I can smell something which is reminescent of a human but at the same time different, there's also residual bloodlust around here'' he added.

"Vampire?" Piper asked immediately. She was curious, and honestly, though she wouldn't say so out loud, she was grateful for the help of his senses.

'He's right...Something unnatural is nearby. Be careful, Kyuma'

"Huh? How can you tell?" Kyuma said, as he manifested his Balance breaker. He hadn't meant to speak the words, but in this situation, at least it made sense.

'You should be able to sense it, as well. I am a part of you now. Just focus, and will yourself to see and hear...that which has escaped your senses all these years.'

Kyuma tried to follow the voices instructions, and it felt as if a door began to open in his mind. His senses began to grow stronger. It was truly amazing...and then he saw it, Within the depths of his mind. A giant red beast. The dragon...

''No. I know a vampire when I smell one. This is different. It's new to me. Both human and demonic but neither of them at the same time...it feels metaphysical, almost surreal and disgusting. As a slaughterhouse full of retarded children with demon blood. Too sad to be true...too disgusting to watch, hear or smell'' said Ethan. He didn't mean to but he said a part of his ''internal'' monologue outloud.

'Oh, like hell I want to smell all of that! Gimme my normal nose back!' Kyuma thought, his face twisted up in disgust by the man's words.

'You fool! These are your normal senses! You've simply suppressed them all this time. Having been around so much supernatural energy has finally brought out your natural state. Sadly, it might just increase your perverseness, as well...'

'Wait, you mean...I can see boobies in HD now!?'

'....*Sighs* Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.'

Ronan stood, ever so slightly dumbfounded, and stared at Wednesday. "Uh, okay?" He allowed his Osteomancy to burn down, though he still wasn't completely comfortable about being this close to a zombie. "Sorry about that little, wig out, or whatever. I had a nasty experience with some zombies down in Haiti one time, though I have to say this is the first time I have ever seen a ghost hanging around their own reanimated body. Sorry, uh, I'm Ronan." Ronan realized he was fumbling a bit. "Sorry again, I didn't really pay attention to the fact that it...she was..is your body, or used to be your body, or used to be you...yeah how does that work? Is it like an out of body experience? Sorry, probably not polite to ask a ghost about their zombie, er I mean previous body, or life. Yeah I've never met many ghosts that actually take the time to talk. I'm used to the more hostile ones you find in old grave sites or archaeological digs. Most of them are old and rather cranky, like seniors when they can't get their tapioca."

Ronan found himself staring at Wednesday. "You know, you are really pretty for a ghost." He could feel himself turning slightly red. Hitting on a dead girl, way to go hot shot.

------

The slaughter had taken no time at all. The "brothers" worked effectively as a team, and the only evidence of the assault lay strewn about the marina in a very messy fashion. Of course, that was the plan all along. Carnifex had stayed in his Feral form after the fight and was busying himself by devouring the remains of the guy in the polo. He had eaten about half of the corpse before he felt a strange sensation, almost like something was watching him. He stood up, reverting back into his normal form, and turned to Vortigas. "I think I'll call it before I get indigestion. Lets get out of here." They walked out the back door and were met by the van. "Father" was inside the back, as usual, and was beaming with pride. "Well done. A little messy, but I can't complain about the work. You two have proven that you have what it takes. You are now the first fully operational unit for the Order."

@Hel @Elias

"Just for a ghost?" Wednesday asked, her head cocking a bit sideways. She didn't really care about looks, herself, but she found flustering people in general to be immensely amusing- at least, when she had caught Bael up in his lies he was entertaining to watch stumble around for words. After a pause, letting the silence fall as though the poor man had somehow offended her with his complement, she then continued with a shrug: "As far as what it's like... I don't know, it just... is. I'm me now, and Caden isn't. Though, she kind of still is. I think that's why I can still control her some, as long as I keep her well fed anyway. It seems like when they stop feeding they deteriorate, and become mindless hordes- like in the movies." She said.

Caden remained where she was, then when Wednesday started talking about her, she turned, digging through the trash again to find some sort of meat to feast on.

Fuze saw the end of the murders, and caught a couple of the letters on the license plate. He'd certainly recognize the murderers if he ever saw them again, but either they were terribly rich, or they were hit men. Either way, they had something to track down now. He usually would have climbed in the can with them and tracked them that way, but he didn't want to risk getting caught. Those two were terrifying,. Instead, he reported the information back to Greyston and they started searching for whoever owned that van.

Alexander nodded to Shylock, uneasy because of the other man's words. "We have to stop this thing." Alex said, as though it really needed saying again.

Shylock nodded, looking at the cement. "Well, yeah - of course we do. I mean, look at what you guys have already taken on. But what if it isn't, you know, an entity you can fight?" He looked at the other, frowning slightly.

Piper raised her eye brows, taking in a deep breath. "Well, that's... reassuring. Let's just find it and kill it. The air suddenly feels much more disgusting after you said that," she told the officer.

"I didn't mean to upset your stomach. The way I see it this creature was once human but was modified somehow by demonic methods. It's a good thing that I can mentally cancel out sounds and various types of smell. I can at least only smell this when necessary. Anyway from the atmosphere and residual smell propagation I can tell one thing. They are feral" said Ethan.

Ronan shrugged. "Well I mean I'd say your previous self was rather attractive, but with her present state, all be-zombiefied." Ronan watched as Caden began rummaging through the garbage. "Hold out for a sec, I'll be back." After a couple of minutes Ronan came back outside with a raw New York strip. "I've seen the stuff people throw away here, trust me when I say that she probably doesn't want to eat any of it." Ronan took a step closer and gently tossed the steak over to the Caden. "Actually, she doesn't look bad now that I think about it. The zeds back in Haiti had been under for a few, if you get my drift. I'd personally prefer someone a little more aware, and maybe a tad bit more alive, no offense."

@Hel

Piper nodded. "Lead us to it, then. If we decide we need help, we have some people on call." she looked at Ethan, watching him closely.

Galleytrot sighed, wandering HQ. Not much to do here, he thought. He popped into Greyston's office. "Feeling any better? Have you gotten Piper a new temporary partner yet, or is that position still open?" He asked, looking at the vampire.

''A few hundred meters from here the smell is a bit stronger, in a three story building towards north-west'' said Ethan. Then he concentrated his senses on everything in a 500 meter radius. The vibrations caused by every movement around him made it possible for him to actually visualize the building. ''There's no one in the building though. They already left'' he added. He stopped his ''concentration mode''.

"Let's move out, then," Piper said. "The sooner we get this dealt with, the better." She followed Ethan, ready to get this all over with. Maybe she could even get a bit of rest afterwards.

Ethan went out towards the building knowing Piper and the young man would follow, after a few minutes he arrived in front of it. ''See you at the top'' he said as he jumped around 10 meters in the air and started climbing the buidling with one hand. He arrived at the rooftop. He had his reasons.

@Sleipnir @Kalin Scarlet

Caden eagerly accepted the gift that Ronan presented her with, hungrily devouring the meat. She had been a slight bit offended by Ronan assuming that she was unaware, however it didn't really register through to her face. She usually hid the fact that she could still think for herself, any way. Wednesday smirked a bit at Ronan's last comment. "Of course, none taken. You are still alive after all. Thank you, by the way, for the meat. It's been hard finding food for her since I can't buy it and for some reason she seems to scare everyone off." Wednesday sighed then, and assessed the man in front of her once again. He seemed... normal enough, though she wondered what the flame-breath was all about.

Greyston looked up at Galleytrot and almost laughed. "What, are you looking for the job?" He asked. "She doesn't need another partner... but I suppose if you want to work with her you can."

Alex seemed uneasy. He knew what the other boy said was true, and that was what worried him more than anything.

Kyuma promoted himself to The Rook Piece, and turned to Piper. "Are we going in?"

At the same time, Kyuma's Balance Breaker declared a 'Boost', indicating that his power had just doubled.

@Sleipnir

"Yes," Piper replied. She paused to text their location to Sanja, Alex, and the others. She wasn't sure if they'd need backup. "But not without trying to get an idea of what we're facing."

Galleytrot shrugged. "Nah. I just wondered. I don't really need a job. Just wondered if you'd come to terms with the fact that you won't be fighting for a little while."

"I can see how that would be a problem." Ronan thought for a minute as he watched Caden. He felt strange about it, almost like he was watching a specimen or test animal. He didn't like to think of another person, even a dead one, as something it wasn't, which was all in the same a strange experience in and of itself. He truly hated most zombies. They were a pain, let alone extremely deadly. But after talking with Wednesday and watching Caden, he had slightly begun to feel different about the two of them. "Hey, uh, if you two are in the neighborhood, I usually keep extra food on hand. If anything it'll make up for that rather hairy first impression."

@Hel

"Hm, really?" Wednesday asked, "Well... thank you." She said. This guy didn't seem so bad, at least, he wasn't trying to lead a witch hunt against her and Caden, so that was a very positive note. When Caden finished her meal, she looked back at Ronan, then to Wednesday, then back to Ronan, almost as though she was asking what they were going to do now.

Greyston glared at Galleytrot. "Oh, ha ha. Here I thought you were trying to be nice, mutt."
