Fantasy Department of Defense Against the Supernatural

'I already took care of that last night, but yeah, one of the new guys: William, I think. I'll send you his number. By the way there was another victim of that vengeful spirit stuff, but don't worry about it, Piper and I will take that case.' He sent back. He attached the number to Will's work cell, and after a few minutes he thought of something.

'Hey, there's a meet up happening down out on the east side, local cops have an inside guy meeting with them. I'd suggest being at that meet up if you are looking for the archer.' He texted luke, nearly half an hour later.

Liliana had spent the morning hiking in search of the dragon with no luck. She sighed, and headed on back to the Air Force base to see if she could help out with anything. She wasn't active, but as often as she was there she may as well have been. She arrived to hear of Woodbury's recent promotion, and sighed. 'The men always get the good jobs,' she thought to herself.

Will arrived at the scene of the presumed ''ogre'' attack that happened to the other mafia gang. These weren't archery killings but rather, the victims were beaten to death by some unknown creature or someone with extreme brutal force. William played all the creatures in his mind that he knew can do this type of killing. Ogres, trolls, golems, demigods, gods or augumented humans all came to his mind but the motif just wasn't there. An ogre would have probably eaten the victim not just maul it to dead, and ogres certainly didn't go vigilante style on mafias. They weren't smart enough. Trolls? Same deal. He doubted it could be a golem, because they were usually controlled by rabis who are often peaceful men.

That left him with three options: Gods, Demigods and human or antromorphs with actual powers. He will have to investigate further...Altough, who knows, he thought. Maybe it could be the same guy, doing all of this?

Woodbury stood with his arms crossed, inspecting his men as they practised manouvers against larger enemies, they reppelled down the side of one of the jet hangars, jumping onto the shoulders and head of the model of a large unspecified fable creature, firing their silver loaded M4A1's into it's neck and shoving their swords into its eyes. Then jumping from it and landing with a roll, finishing the roll into a crouch position and aiming their weapons up at the model, in the scenario the creature managed to knock them off of it. Woodbury nodded with an approving smile.

Walking towards the entrance of the base to retrieve his utility belt he noticed a blonde woman in her mid twenties approach, waving to her as he approached her begining with. "Evenin' miss, you work here?"

Liliana looked at Woodbury, cold eyes inspecting him thouroughly. "I do," she said, returning the smile out of social politeness more than anything. She knew that likability was the key to getting anywhere, that lesson was learned after having so many doors slammed in her face when she didn't fall into the expected social norms.

"I am a pilot here, but I'm not really active. I miss being around it, though, so I got permission to come help out with things around the base- simple maintenance, cleaning, training exercises. Whatever's around to keep me sharp and around the planes, really." She continued, figuring she should provide more than a simple yes.

After awhile at the building, Piper sent Corin a text: "Nothing here. No sign of hexes."It seems clear."

She continued looking in the house, and jumped as a voice broke the silence. "You missed this."

She turned sharply to see Galleytrot. He tossed her a small bag. She nodded, texted an update to Corin and headed out with it.

Woodbury swiftly replied to the rather serious looking woman, well with her expression anyway, and a smile that was clearly forced if anything. Saying to her "Right...well you know the drill, show your ID and head on through I guess." Folding his arms and gesturing to the nearby checkpoint to enter the base behind him, as she finished what she was saying he responded to her with "We got a shipment of A-10's on the tarmac already, why don't you go give them a diagnostics run?" He asked.

William trottled to the van, and grabbed the lore books he always kept there for study of the supernatural. He was looking for anything that could have done this. In about half an hour, he managed to find loads of info, but none seemed to point to whatever he was thinking it would be. In the demigods section, he found Hercules and other power-related demis, but they were long dead or around Olympus. Gods picking on bands wasn't such a good intuiton. And Titans? Well. Lets just say they were all dead... That left out one more possibility. The killings were made by a meta-human or something human-like. It had to be. The swiftness in which the killings were made, yet with so much brutality all pointed to the same thing. Any other brutish supernatural whould have goofed on this. Humanoids though, they were more swift. More agile. More deadly. All of these, gave him another curious wonder.... Was the archer involved in this? He had to find out....

(@KattRai Will Buwan appear again?)

(Probably, I have plans for that, we'll get to them. The time is not yet ripe.)

Liliana nodded, and saying. "Yes, sir." The last word was clearly forced, as was the following salute. She moved past, through the checkpoint and on to the weapons inspection.

Getting out of the van, Will began investagating the scene of the crime again. Perhaps there would be something he missed. And this time, he made sure to search thouroughly. At one point, as his flesh eyes saw everything, he activated his true, leviathan eyes. Eyes that could see great distances, even see smell or sounds in special conditions. Looking around, with his detailed sight, Will noticed something he didn't notice before. Magic residue. It was all over the victims, all of these pointing to a magical death at least.

Flabbergasted by this discovery, he rushed back to the lore books and searched again. This time for beings that had high affinity with magic. All of the searches took him places... He read about Wizards, Djinns, even leprechauns. But at the end he stopped at a conclusion. Elves or fairies. Fairies notably have magic, and elves, even though more rarely seen, also have species that specialise in spells. What was their name again? He looked through the species tab of elves.

Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Frost Elf... No, no that's not it, he thought as he read further. Eventually, he came across a pharagraph describing the high elves...a type of elves that had royal blood and dealt with magic. At least now he had something. And he knew what it could be.

An elf most likely......

"Can do." Luke texted to Corin. So there was an inside man giving info on the Archer. Seemed legit

Anyways, Luke texted this William guy. "Agent Luke Cross, Intelligence Dept. What do you know about this archer case? I need some info on the 3 attacks" He snapped a pic of his badge as proof and sent it to him.

@KattRai (Tell me when the meeting is happening)

Checking his phone, William texted back. ''Nice to meet you Cross. As you may be aware there have been 4 attacks on mafia gangs: one with arrows, one in which the victims were beaten to death, and the 2 others being cases in which wind or wind magic killed them. From the intel I got so far, I have reason to believe an high elf is behind the killings... As for the archer, I don't know if he is involved or not. For all we now, it could be the same guy doing all of these killings. What you got so far?''

Scath watched as the trees blew in the wind above his head. He stood in the middle of the Manassas Battlefield in one of the many forests that dotted the historic site. The creek trickled gently beside him as he stood silently, almost as if he were listening to the sounds of long dead soldiers as they stalked through the trees. The wind picked up, changing directions and blowing in with a strange smell. Scath turned his head to let the wind blow in his face.

Fae.

It was another memory of the Old World, just as Lilliana had been, but Scath had had very few encounters with the etherial beings in his past. But he knew enough to know that even if you smelled them it didn't mean you would see them. Scath remained quiet and still, watching to see what the outcome of this meeting would be.

@Azure Sky

"I was at the scene for the Archery killings. I have a high suspicion that it's all the same guy. 12 hours, all the same type of guys, Mafia, within a reasonable time period of each other. It's pretty easy to travel anywhere in DC in 12 hours. High Elves are beasts when it comes to magic, and Elves are naturally great shots. There aren't many elves in this city. From the suspected building, it's an easy shot. The magic is all the same type."

Luke thought about the circumstances. There's no debating that this was all connected. 4 gangs, MAFIA gangs in 12 hours, could never be a coincidence. No innocents have died from the wind cases, meaning that the man in question definitely wasn't just some mindless criminal.

He had some time to kill before the meeting, so he headed to the site of another killing.

''That's what I tought aswell. Already checked the building, but couldn't find anything significant. I am currently at the scene where they got mauled to death. Haven't checked the wind kills, so if you have time go there. Keep me posted'' he texted then he started researching for weapons that could work well against faes.

Woodbury nodded at the woman's reply as he walked towards a black SUV with the Department's logo on the side that was waiting for him, parked next to the base checkpoint. Getting inside as the driver set off for the HQ.

---------------------------------

Captain Astrid Thorogood was sitting in the cockpit of her A-10 Thunderbolt, said jet sitting dormantly on the tarmac of the peaceful and quiet airfield, the rising sun projecting beautiful rays of a mixed light and dark orange across the concrete that made up the airfield. She sat casually inside her jet, her legs spread as the instruction manual on the GBU Harm missile sat between her legs, the Captain reading at it with a profound interest.

She was in her standard USAF fatigues, her patrol cap perched on her head as her black hair was done in a ponytail, her bright blue eyes scanned the manual infront of her quickly. As she held both ends of the manual tightly, the light wind occasionally blowing the pieces of paper over each other, causing inconvience to her reading.

Allerio was in one of the DC parks. Obviously someone was going to think the killings were made by the same guy. But he had a lot of plans in his mind and if he put them all in motion, it would surely give the effect he desired. Known as Aeron Everlight to the general public, he was seen as a respectful and benevolent elf. He also knew what effect the discovery of him being the vigilante have on the masses. He has lived for 800 years and he has seen many things. If he didn't have experience in how to do certain things, then who would?

As he walked throug the park, he felt a nostalgic presence. Seeking the source of this supernatural flow through the earthly mana he discovered a being which he hadn't seen in a long time. No matter what form they took, he could always recognize them...Dragons.

He walked near Scath and simply looked at him for roughly a minute. He then said something in an ancient language, which the Dragon would surely understand. ''It seems the tides have changed in such a way that it was necessary for old bones of age such as ourselfs to make a stand'' was the translation of what Allerio said.

Liliana did as she was told, as she did she realized how much she missed flying- and not just puny little 172s or SR-20's. They were fun enough, but she missed the speed and maneuverability of the jets.

Corin, meanwhile, was still at headquarters. When he got Piper's update, he looked through and replied, 'Did you see there was a second victim? The son, 23.' He sent back.

Luke went over to the next scene, one where the guys had gotten shredded and dismembered. Luke used an invisibility module along with his hoverboard to fly without being sought. The crime scene was already clear. There was blood everywhere, so Luke used an electromagnet to float along the bloody floor The scanbot was with him the entire time, and went to work like the last time. This magic residue was everywhere, silver for Wind Magic. Everything was consistent. "Rewind." the scanbot went to work. After scanning the room, it projected an image of where the things in the room were. The bot traced the magic to the origin point. It was in the entrance point of the door.

Something caught his eye. It was the same thing that was in the Weapon Magic: Some green slits of magic in it, invisible without powerful magic, or in Luke's case, the highest technology. It was everywhere, so it was more visible than usual, as sometime they'd come together.

The perp wasn't human. That was already known. Just like in DNA, the subtle differences give away anyone. Unlike DNA though, it's not as reliable. It easily told whether or not it was human, but it still took DNA to nail a specific person or species. Since it was green, it was definitely a creature in tune with nature. It ruled out a lot of creatures. Humans, Urban dwellers, Hell Spawn, Demons, Divine Creatures like Angels (who was second on the list), and spirits. It also ruled out those with a primary in Fire or Ice magic, as Nature magic is weak to those elements.

Of all the creatures that ran through Luke's mind, only 1 was a possibility. It had to be Elf. Angels would leave white or silver hues. Fairies couldn't pull a bow. Wood Elves? Good archers, but terrible mages. Dark Elves? Good mages, but terrible archers. It was time to head back to the station

Scath titled his head slightly as he listened to Allerio speak. "It would seem so.", Scath replied. "It has been many years since I've had a conversation in this language, even more since I have had the pleasure of speaking with an Elf." Scath bowed his head slightly, remembering the customs used by those who lived in the Old World. "I am Scath of Wales, to whom do I owe the honor?"

''For the moment I am known as Aeron Everlight, but my real name is...'' said Allerio before making a pause. He didn't know if people outside of the Elven lands knew about the Fallen Elf that caused the event known as the Elven Nightmare. He didn't feel any need to lie though so he continued his sentence: ''...Allerio Faervel. Why I'm using another name is a story for another time''. His deep voice had a rather strong and heavy effect.

Tired of the research he conducted so far, William looked at the clock and realised he has been reading more than enough. He read all the Fae book in about an hour, then moved to others, eating through lore. He figured that if he was going to work in this line of job, he might as well know what they are up against most of the times. After elves, he documented about vampires and all their subspecies, werewolfs and lycantrophy in general, the behavior of souls that refuse to pass onto the afterlife, and 5 minutes ago he just finished reading on the different types of Djinn that inhabit our world. He felt more informed now, ready to take on anything, but there was still no leads on the vigilante and other cases were already taken. So he went to a place where he could drown his boredom.

A bar...

Corin spent most of the day looking into the case he had previously shown Luke. Once Piper returned with the bag she had found, he had one of the department witches look into what it was. He went and spoke with the son's doctor, who was able to provide a little bit more insight into what they were dealing with.

"When he came in, Steven said that he noticed it after being awoken by what felt like someone pinching him." The doctor said, his brow bunched with concern. "He was a good boy, going to school to be a youth minister, like his uncle from what I hear." The older man shook his balding head, "It's such a shame, what happened to him. I hope I've been helpful."

Corin nodded, and thanked him. The mention of a pinch stirred something in his mind, but he couldn't figure out what it was. As he mulled on it, he wandered around in the shade the buildings provided from the late afternoon sun. He muttered to himself as he wandered, talking through what he knew, hoping that saying something out loud would spark a memory. He called Piper, but she must have been busy, because she didn't answer. 'Now what could she be up to?' Corin mused, distracted from his work. 'Did she get a date without telling me? I'll be grilling her about that later.'

@Sleipnir

Meanwhile, Liliana headed out away from the base. She had spent most of the day there and wanted to go relax. Maybe she'd find something interesting to do. She got off of the train closer to the center of DC nightlife, and as she walked through the streets she noticed a bar. She wasn't usually the type to drink, but some pool sounded fun. Maybe some stupid guys would actually bet against her. 'Men always think they'll win when it comes to simple games, especially when challenged by someone like me.' She thought to herself. She walked in, and headed over to the bar, ordering a hard cider.

@Elias

(It's kind of hart to write for a super feminist Valkyrie without making her sound like a total B!)

William sat there in silence, drinking the whiskey he orderered. This was his third round, but he was so hooked, he kept asking for more. Alchohol is wonderful, he thought. It allowed him to just enjoy life, without worrying about his past and his future. It just drowned your sorrow ''Hey. Bartender! Another round'' he said as he motioned for another drink. Just then, a girl in a jacket sat next him to him, and ordered a drink aswell.

Glancing around, Will noticed the men from the bar eyeing her, nudging each others and whispering about her.

'' If I may speak, your choice of a bar isn't too great'' Will spoke as he showed her the men in the beck. ''What brings you around such places of DC? You don't seem like the drinking type''

Luke went back to the station to his lab. He accessed Search, and did a query on High Elves, residents of the city, and Primary Wind magic users.

A name popped up: Aeron Everlight

Everlight? Luke searched that name in the police files. 1 hit.

The name was fishy, as it had the same residence as someone else, another elf by the name of Allerio Faervel. Aeron could be gay, but the residence had only 1 resident.

Looking at pictures, he looked around 30, but searching the web, he found rumors that the elf was over 200 years. Specifics weren't mentioned, but Luke had reason to believe it may be true, given that elves were immortal. Elves are never their appeared age. He did more research on this Aeron Everlight, and found a huge number of fan sites and online love letters. He was immensely popular with the ladies. This complicated things.

He must have bought residence then got a fake ID. One of those names were a fake ID. Aeron Everlight had documents to go with it, so it must be fake. Elves are immortal. They didn't have Birth Certificates and Social Security for this society. There was not one elf in any human city with a birth certificate. This society wasn't like this 100 years ago. It wasn't even like this 60 years ago.

Luke texted up the other guy working on the case. "I think I may know who the man in question is. His name is Aeron Everlight.............or at least that's what his fake name is. His real name is Allerio Faervel. However, it's best to just leave it as Aeron Everlight. No one knows Allerio Faervel is. The problem isn't arresting him. The problem is the backlash that happens if we do arrest him. Everyone's in love with him."

@Elias

"They don't bother me." She said, nursing on her hard cider, it reminded her of the "beer" the older valkyries used to make. "I was bored, and found myself outside." Liliana answered his second question with a shrug. She kept her answers short, trying not to speak with him longer than necessary. After a moment he glanced at the man and added, "I thought I may find someone to play a game of pool with here."

(Sorry! I thought I posted this MUCH earlier this morning!)
