Dice D&D: The City of Shaldra~Zin

I got a post up that kind of pushes forward at a faster rate. Our new players are eager to join the game and I am trying to get us to the point where they will stumbled into the story. Excited to see how all this plays out. Splitting the party is always an interesting choice.

I'm out and about right now and for a couple of hours. I'll hopefully get a post in before 5 or 6.

Okay, once I find Gilda, she is going to be officially introduced to Stabby (I named my rapier, deal with it)

@Grimsvald Am I close enough to the magic circle to get the hostess out?

Im too tired to think of a better way to answer this. There is no check to attempt pulling her out. Because it cannot be done. But if you attempt to pull her out there will be a constitution saving throw to see if you take damage. I guess try not to metagame that, but I didn't do you any favors here, ha. Sorry.

After getting my daughter's birth certificate, speaking with my HR department to fix up her insurance coverage and my wife having a migraine all day I'm to tired to be cleaver.

I have created some campaign boons for this story. Would you like to chose them through in character actions or would you like to read all your options and choose out of character? Each person choose differently. Or everyone can come together on this.

I can even do a mix of the two. Letting you know which in character moments will wffect your boons so you understand the gravity of your choices before commiting them.

If you have any questions let me know otherwise request In Character or Out Of Character decission making.

Hmm. Knowing what situations would affect our campaign wouldn't be bad for me. However I'm fine with whatever the group wants, I'm flexible. :D

These's still a lot of things I don't know about D&D in general so I guess I'll go along with everybody else. I'll try to get a post up by tomorrow

Alright so thats 1 I dont mind either way and 1 I dont know. 2 more votes to go haha.

These boons wont be the only ways to buff your characters away from the basics. There will be enchantments for armor and weapons, companion, wonderous items and so on as we make our way through the story. It should help us make some really unique character and open up your builds to new ideas.

@Grimsvald What is the circle Gilda drew drawn out of? Is it something I can scrub away? Also, on an unrelated note, are there any stools/chairs in the room?

@Yesman , you are in the corpse clean up room where they prep the bodies for a viewings. Gilda used red make up off one of the tables. The floor is like tile smooth stone. Think of heavily applied lipstick on a bathroom floor. Thats what youre dealing with.

You may be able to get it off the floor but it would take some real scrubing. It would probably smeer and smudge for a while before it came up and youre not sure if you will be shocked while touching the magic.

You may also try adding onto the symbol which might change the spell. But you wouldnt know what your changing it into haha.

There are no chairs of any kind in this room. There are 3 chairs in the office and long benches in the viewing room.

Well, I looked up boons and realized that I just last night when watching CriticalRole saw a wonderful way to implement them into a campaign. I think boons should be like special secret artifacts that the players and characters don't know about. **potential spoilers to anyone who plans on watching CriticalRole and hasn't gotten to episode 21** For example, the boon that was given in the CriticalRole campaign was a Sparkstone that when crushed, permanently surrounded the hands of whoever crushed it in flame. The party didn't know they were going to receive it beforehand, and it came at a logical time and from a logical place. i.e. it came from a volcanic place, not a frozen tundra.

So, I think the occasinal surprising with them IC or hinting at them IC is the best option. Perhaps an interesting way to get our characters to proceed towards these boons IC are by having them as part of a large personal quest for certain characters. However, this doesn't mean that that boon is most useful in the hands of whoever's personal quest the party is on when they receive it. For instance, the CriticalRole party was doing something that pertained to one of the character's personal quests and it led them to receiving the Sparkstone, yet the character they were aiding doesn't really use unarmed strikes, so that character wouldn't really have too much use of it. Another interesting way would be if our characters are asking around about things and get high rolls, NPCs might mention tales of an ancient relic that can *insert what the boon does here* and have that intrigue our characters into looking for it. Just some ideas I had, long story short I think that the boons should be presented IC and as rewards for completing certain things. Perhaps some are literally rewards IC and other, less impactful ones are lost treasure type deals. Either way, I think keeping us on our toes and never knowing when a boon may or may not show up in the RP is the best way to go.

There will always be an In Character element to them. And there will be Artifacts/wonderous items as well as boons. I will count you as voting for IC decision making.

So we will settle things IC.

@Chayliel since you wanted a heads up on these important moments and others dont I will PM you a clue when these moments come around. Try not to share that info.

I want to help this lady, I really do, but at this point I'm not sure if it would be easier to just kill her and her husband and blame it on the zombies afterwards.

Full discolsure, thats how I wanted you to feel. Thats similar to the outcomes I was pushing towards but I always want to give you a chance to change things.

The husband is feeling the same thing. Its up to you if Jaks stops him or not. No roll needed. If you let the husband, he will kill her in my next post. If you try to stop him he wont put up a fight either.

With your bow and arrow, no. Just step back a bit. With throwing knives no roll needed. With a melee weapon I need a Con. Saving throw.

Great, now I hate myself. And you for making me do this but mostly myself.

Lol perfect. Thats pretty much my goal. The best thing is that no one in the party knows. Have fun with that dark little secret. Should you tell the cleric and paladin you murdered a helpless woman that you may have been able to save? Should you let it fester inside you? Maybe it will come out next time Jameak uses his zone of truth :-p

Character development is fun.

@Naxtaroth I think you've waited long enough. You can make your enterance post now.

To set the scene for you in summary,

You are in a large and rich holy city named Bexely. Although its main religion is to Pelor all are welcomed. Undead people in black robes are pouring out of the morge. Blue green spirits are flying around chaotically. When the spirits hit someone they kill them then take over their bodies.

Our rogue Jaks is in the morge.

Our Cleric, Paladin and Fighter are north west about 4 blocks at a forge owned by the fighter.

Let me know if you have any questions.

There are still some walking through the room you are in. Its taking a while because there are 200 of them. There are plenty out in the streets too. None of them seem to be paying attention to anyone. They are just walking out and away.
