Character Trivia:
Personality: Despite having a relatively rough upbringing, Nova still manages to be a kindhearted, down-to earth young woman who always tries to find a silver lining in even in the toughest of situations. She is generally a happy and curious, but very clumsy, individual prone to mishaps (and lots of bad luck) and yet somehow still manages to hold her head high. She's empathetic, thoughtful, and compassionate, willing to give most people a chance regardless of their background even if they themselves might think otherwise. She's the type of person to offer hugs and lend an ear to those who need someone to talk to. In essence Nova is incredibly selfless to the point of neglecting her own needs, a fact she knows well but is uneager to fix. Stubborn as a mule, once she sets her mind on something its near impossible to change it, even if she puts herself in danger.
While she generally tries to be a little ray of sunshine, Nova nonetheless maintains a certain level of distance between her and other people in a subconscious effort to protect herself. She doesn't like talking about her past if she can help it, preferring to skip around the subject or downplay it and acting like an airhead. There's an ever present fear that once someone learns more about her, they'll see her as some sort of freak. She treasures friendships but completely trusting other people is an entirely different ballgame. As it is, it comes as no surprise that she has a tendency to hide what she's truly feeling. She may appear to be calm and confident but on the inside deals with issues of self worth and perfectionism.
History:
Born in the quiet village of Oldale, Nova had a typical childhood with loving parents and a house full of pokemon. Her father, Issac, was an accomplished ex-spy turned assistant of the local pokemon professor while her mother Annette (formerly a nurse Joy) was the owner of a small yet popular book cafe. Given their occupations their daughter received a well rounded education, and like many children in the region she started her pokemon journey shortly after turning 10 years old. With her first partner Vulpix at her side she was more than ready to take on the world and collect all the badges necessary to challenge the elite four, her parents cheering her on all the while.
Life was good, until it wasn't.
Exhausted from her fight with the third gym leader, she was half asleep in her hotel room when an unknown man and woman of a mysterious organization barged in and kidnapped her, knocking her out before she could even fight back. They didn't even bother to take her pokemon; when the police arrived, nothing other than the girl was missing. She, along with dozens of other children were nowhere to be seen. Parents were notified and before long international authorities, including Issac who had returned from early retirement, became involved as a grand conspiracy about human and pokemon experimentation was revealed. Meanwhile, Nova woke up along with others in a large lab far away from home. Months passed as they were poked and prodded, undergoing countless bizarre experiments, the most notable among them being forced to become "trainers" of unusually violent pokemon.
Over a year passed before Nova's captors became aware that the authorities had discovered the location of their facility and were on the way. Knowing there was no time to waste, they were quick to collect the data and destroyed as much of the incriminating evidence as possible before fleeing. The police arrived to see the place trashed, empty except for a few unlucky grunts and the missing children in various states of trauma. Among the victims Nova was one of the lucky ones, rendered mute and disoriented but still vaguely aware of her surroundings. Given the seriousness of the situation and with many loose ends including who was responsible for the crime, international authorities had no choice but create a cover-up, telling the general public some story about some skilled thieves kidnapping children for ransom so they could continue investigating without causing panic. Rather mercifully, Nova's memories of the experiments were few and far between, her mind shielding her from the worst of them. The doctors who examined her found nothing wrong with her physically (other than some scratches and bruises), even her vocal cords were undamaged, and recommended therapy to help her deal with her terrible experience and hopefully regain her voice. As part of her recovery, she and her parents soon moved all the way to Lumiose City in the Kalos region. Issac also joined the police department.
Years passed, her memories of being in the lab lingering in the recesses of her mind like a half-forgotten nightmare. Unfortunately, Nova could never seem to regain her voice for some reason, so much to her frustration she had to learn different ways to communicate like sign language and using a notepad. That combined with her understandably overprotective parents made any sort of progress slow as molasses. One day however an unorthodox solution presented itself; her father's Lucario who happened to be skilled enough to use telepathy and speak like a human. It seemed ironic in hindsight given how her father's partner had babysat her occasionally when she was young, she just hadn't realized it until now. From then on, the Lucario became her unofficial translator and part time bodyguard, giving her the courage to finally move forward. She decided against challenging the elite four of the region for a while, both to ease her parents worries as well as expand her horizons within the relative safety of a big city. Nova instead opted to continue her education with thoughts of eventually pursuing a career similar to her mother's former line of work. Nova and her mother were making dinner while they waited for Issac to come home one evening when there was a knock at the door. It turned out to be one of her father's friends from the police department and her father's Lucario, tears in his eyes as he told the family that Issac wasn't coming home, having been murdered by an unknown assailant with likely ties to the same group who had kidnapped Nova years prior.
With Annette inconsolable Nova was forced to take care of some of her departed father's affairs including the matter of the funeral. She did her best to put on a brave face, only allowing herself to properly mourn with her mother after the burial. After a couple of months, the two women set to clean out Issac's office, soon coming across some of his mission briefings. One file in particular caught their attention, the cover bolded in angry red letters that spelled one word only: Cipher. Though there were few documents about them to speak of it was enough to raise several questions. Why were Nova and the other children kidnapped? Why were scientists attempting to make pokemon into souless fighting machines? Just what was Cipher's ultimate objective? They demanded answers from Issac's coworkers but were only hit by one roadblock after another as the police remained reluctant to speak about what was going on.
Luckily the wait didn't take long, as soon rumors began surfacing about a certain organization operating in the Orre region with "shadow" pokemon. Nova knew she had to go there at once, even though her mother heavily disapproved. They argued back and forth but she refused to be swayed. After making preparations she began her journey, leaving an exasperated Annette behind.

Aura Of Twilight
Nova is great! I found her backstory really, chilling, actually, it's going to be cool seeing her in action in-game. Accepted with one minor caveat: Pokemon are limited to only four moves known, so do narrow down those lists! Other than that, can't wait to RP with her!
