Zak and Max have just reunited in Lilycove. They escaped the mountain, but turned back to help get people off. Zak interacted with Zenith and Eddie for a brief moment. That's all of it, if you wanted to know.

Right now my best idea is he was saving a bunch of students who were there on a school trip who would have died if he had gone on to fight instead of getting them out.
