If the show isn't a start at the beginning, they'll play it a bit, move schedules around, lower the budget, put it on a secondary channel, then release the last episodes online.

With people like Viacom, you must sign something that states, you get nothing from merchandise. So all that stuff that should count as theirs doesn't give them a cent. And Viacom is known to rip down videos, even if the stuff is under fair use :|
