Avatar: Tales of the Hundred Year War

Era looked to him, she couldn't stay mad at him. "I over step my bounds, sorry. I just worry for you as much as you worry for me." She looked away, her cheeks going red just for a moment.

"Then that settled, you sorry and i am sorry."He said trying to give a reassuring smile."Heh, we are like an old brother and sister, getting on each others nerves but were will we be with out the other."

"Your close to me, but I don't think of you like a brother. You feel closer than how I am to my brothers." She smiled. She didn't know where she would be without him.

"I see... I do feel the same way, if i am being honest."He said giving a small smile before finding himself feeling awkward. "Eh... how long to the town?"

"You got the map." She said looking at him with a slight yawn. She wondered what time it was.

"Oh...Right... Forgot all about it."He said feeling embarrassed, he didnt know why he asked the didn't get too far thanks to his gaff. "Eh... You okay? You want to stop and rest?"

"No, we need to keep going." Era shook her head. "We shouldn't take us too long." She said with a small smile. "Lets keep going."

"If you say so... We had one idiot falling of this beast." He said cautiously attempting to make his bird go faster. "Not need to be hero, sis"

"No, we need to be. We got three days to get there and this is a little after noon. I can stay up." She promised. She was glad he worried over her, it made her smile some knowing he cares even if she already knew.

"Ok, just because you smiled so nicely." He said eyeing critically but not without a hint of humor." I am watching you, one yawn and we are camping."

The rode for a little bit when Yao noticed a few Earth soldiers resting around the road a head. Normally this would be a welcoming sight but the look in their faces bothered him." Era, slow down... This smells fishy."

Era slowed to a stop, looking over at him before looking at the soldiers. She got off, walking over to the soldiers. "Did something happen?" She looked at their hopeless faces.

"No, Era wait..."He tried to warn before Era went ahead but it was too late, the soldiers drew their weapons and drew their weapons and pointed at Era."Hey!" He called out as he went for his naginata before something struck his arm hard. One of the soldiers was an earth bender.

"You need to pay the toll before you enter the village or you cant get inside or go back for that matter."The head soldiers said to the both of them.

Era furrowed her brow, "They call you soldiers?" She pulled out the letter, "We are the Earth Kingdom spies that has proof of one of our kind turning on us to the fire nation." She straightened her back, she looked like someone who could be in charge. "General will be displeased you made us lose our undercover even for a moment. Allow us through." She pocketed the letter.

The soldiered laughed to have such a young delicate looking girl truing to be authoritative over them. "So the general is so desperate that he is hiring little girls to fight his battles. " The leader said after a good chuckle, he aimed his sword closer to her."You can be the queen of the kingdom and you still have to pay the toll, in fact the importance will cost you more.... You wouldnt want us, to harm that little cute face of you..."

"You touch a hair on her i will..."Yao began to threatened move froward slightly before their weapons became to close for comfort. He still held his throbbing wrist.

"Oh... so you two..."The leader asked Era amused by the defense."Nice to get a few couples coming through, almost a shame to stop you. Not the brightest though is he?"

Era narrowed her eyes, "First rule, don't talk about him like that. Second rule, don't call me a little girl." With that, not even realizing what she was doing, she moved her feet incasing a few soldiers. She kicked a rock to the earthbender, making him land at the far wall and she disarmed the leader, who was untouched and held the blade to him. She would explain it to Yao later. "Now, how much was the toll again?" She looked pretty fierce, for such a little girl.

"N...No charge... Ma'am." The leader said his confident tone disappeared into a mix anger and fear. " Please pass on."

Yao just looked on bemused at the scene before thinking best get out when the getting is good. He reached down and grabbed his spear before moving the horse forward." Thanks gentleman for your kindness."

Era nodded, grabbing her own horse. "I really hope I don't see this again," she walked past, letting the rock bender free them when he woke up. She got back on her horse and looked at Yao "My brother told me about bullies like them, soldiers that think they can pick on everyone." She shook her head, "My grandfather done it once when some people tried to do that in our village, he said it can be done by anyone for the right reasons. What they where doing was the right reason and I can't even tell you how I did it."

"You will hear no complaints about it from me... That was incredible, Era." He said still a bit bemused by the display and sighed as he rubbed his wrist. " Thanks again for saving my hide again wish I was of help."

Era shook her head, "They should have never touched you, they are not allowed to anyways." She looked to Yao, "They probably would have been a lot worse with just me." She said with a sigh, not wanting to think of possible outcomes. She looked to him and smiled. "It was funny, though."

"I get it still, just wish I could have done something." He said before trying to smirk. "The look on their faces when you hit them, hilarious they will think twice next time."

Era chuckled, it was dry. She hated making him feel useless, "Well, with soldiers stationed here we can probably use an Earth Hawk to send it to the front line." She added with hope.

"Maybe we will find something out about my brother." He said the idea just dawning on him with no small measure of renewed hope. However that hope disappeared with the arrival of another. "That is if they even let us through the front door. The information is important but they don't know us from a hole in the ground.

Era frowned, she didn't think about that. "Well, lets just get the the letter to them then we will see from there." She said with a small shrug. "We'll find out some way, okay?"

"Yeah...Lets see what the situation is."He said sounding confident though he worried about it the whole way there, trying to figure out a way there. It was near nightfall when the reached the town which was quite with the occasional patrol of soldier walking past. The only signs of life were in the local tavern and the military camp not far ahead."Should we go directly or should we rest up and go tomorrow. You look tired."

Era thought about it before shaking her head, "We just have to take the letter to the camp then we can go to bed. They can send the hawk tonight and we can leave tomorrow with a not so heavy chest." She said before getting off her horse to tie it up and waited for him before she walked into the camp.
