Fantasy Arcania Conduits || OOC Thread ||

Are we still trying to develop Arcania, or shall we get into Astral some? renagadedoodlr renagadedoodlr your thoughts?
Also, are we ok with using our real names in private threads/messages, or should we go by pen names/our character names?

Okay, then we've established some of the base-line spells for Elemental, Arcania, and Astral, right? Have we given more thoughts to the conduits, themselves, and how they assist with magic, or rather when they're necessary to do spellwork?

So conduits themselves are merely objects used to help with Arcania channeling. Imbued with one's personal Arcania, it is used for increasing spell power, maintaining consistent flow of Arcania, as well as an object that can contain "Arcania overflow". In many situations of newly reborn Arcania users, they have fresh magical abilities and need an outlet before their power bursts. Arcania bursts in new Arcania users is more dangerous to those around them than them personally, but there are cases in which the users them self could die from the pure un-channeled Arcania. This is why every beginner needs a conduit to get started in their journey to being a more powerful Arcanian.

One way to put it is in DnD terms; say you have a spell that does 25 damage, but the caster has 3 basic conduits, for each conduit, there is a base of a x1 multiplier of damage. So while one does not need a special conduit to cast a spell, conduits certainly assist in spell casting.

Some conduits are more offensive versus defensive. Staves, wands, and the like help channel Arcania outward whereas things that fall under jewelry are used for channeling inward. My character Luca uses many conduits to channel inwards to help control her output of Astral Arcania.

This doesn't complete what I had planned for conduits, but I'm up for alterations in case it doesn't align well with the other stuff we have planned

So, since my character (I can't remember her name!) has the pocketwatch (jewelry), it will serve more like an energy base to help her with her magic/spells/ "channeling"?
And do we have a term for the way people use Arcania? There's magic, spell casting, channeling... I'm throwing thoughts around now, guys. I'm also very tired right now, so I'm kinda rambling~~

Oh, do we want to add a dice roll? Like, roll high to make blah-blah happen? Or is this more story-driven?

Okay, if this is more story driven, then how are we writing this? I mean perspective wise. I understand that we would essentially be writing our characters only, but would that mean writing from a third-person limited perspective? Omniscient would be rather impossible unless we are able to poke into each other's writing and basically borrow the characters for a bit before returning them. And first person would feel rather awkward unless we do it like Ch 1 Blah POV, Ch 2 Bleh POV... "Passing around the talking-stick," really. More rambling, sorry.

Lol don't be sorry, and I normally write in third person, with some thoughts written out as well, but normal RP rules dictate that unless you is a mindreader you cannot read someones thoughts.

Yea, this will be a story driven rp. I merely used the dice multiplier to kind of explain how conduits can work with magic.

The best perspective used for rp is limited 3rd person; that way when I write my chunk for the story, my writing will offer a different experience of the full story than either your guys' charaters.

Basically, one's writing will be limited to their own actions, thoughts, or interactions and nothing else. For example, say my character was making snacks, but she's thinking about Solomon in the other room. She might leave the kitchen with the finished snacks and enter the room with Solomon and ask him something, but that would be the limitation of my perspective. Ben would have to offer up a continuation paragraph from Solomon's perspective with Solomon's response and following thoughts or actions.

Oh, ok! I was really tired when I asked that rambling question, so sorry about that. This'll be a nice chance to stretch my third person limited muscles again! And now I'm all excited~~
Is there anything else we should discuss before we get started, or are we able to dive right in? Because we don't have to have everything little thing planned before we start, though it's better to get the meatier stuff out of the way :3

Before we get started, we do need to outline the plot points so was have a rough timeline to push the story along, we need to name antagonists, as well as complete a few more levels of usable spells.

But we can get started with character sheets I guess? As well as the introductory entries?

I think once we get a few more spells squared away we will have an easier time getting things started and stuff. I will get a character sheet thread up soon

Are we going to entries for the main antagonist? If so, who should write them?

In personal preference, I think antagonist entries will help round out the story, but it's also a lot more work

Antagonist entries, I think, should be a group effort, if possible. At least for the major ones. If we want to do mini arcs to help develop our characters, we can create our own mini antagonists. However, major antagonists are something we're all going to have to deal with. Those characters need to be well-rounded for combat, you know?

I always assumed there would be just the one antagonist, but should we each take up an antagonist mantle to have an opposing force for each of our protagonists?

We could have a main antagonist -- where we would all have a say in his character sheet -- and then have minor antagonists that we design ourselves to act as a foil to our characters. They would act as underlings to the main antagonist, me thinks.

On an similarly related note, are we going to do entries for temporary charaters, i.e. people who are plot devices to usher along progress in the discovery of the new drug? If so, how should we divide those up?
