As Royce approached him, Lu started to reach into his satchel bag once more and rummaged around for his pistol as his Vz.61 had dropped from his hand when he was knocked unconcious. Fumbling his grip; he grunted and gave up on the idea, laying back and waiting for it to end. To his surprise; it wasn't a bullet hitting his head but water as he turned away so that he wouldn't drown. Opening his mouth a little, some drops of the precious fluid met his tongue which lapped it up as he was almost at death's door. Coughing as a few droplets of water hit the back his throat and blowing his nose hard; Lu spluttered out yet another tongue in cheek jest.

"I thought you lot were following me? I would suggest visiting a doctor to get your head checked if you can't recall where I was a moment ago.."

Grinning slightly, Lu thought about what he said. 'I could really do with visiting a doctor too'... Although the fun and games came to a end as the pain from his shattered knee sent pulses of agony throughout his body. Rolling over onto his side, he eyeballed the man questioning him.

"If you're going to shoot me, get on with it.."

Lu then closed his eyes and waited patiently for the final gunshot.

Muffin walked up and gave the man she didn’t know a good long sniff. Satisfied that he wasn’t dangerous the bear blew a huff of hot air into his face. Turning around to plod away.

Jacob

"I'm gonna go try and see if any of those vehicles he mentioned work, if not I can probably get one running in a couple minutes." He walked back into the base and over to one of the humvees and popped the hood. Everything looked in working order, except one of the battery wire's terminal was missing. Shit. He went to another humvee and managed to scavange one off. He replaced it on the humvee he was working on and connected it. He tried to start it, but it only sputtered. He turned the key again to check the gauges and saw that it was out of fuel. He searched around and finally gathered up enough jerry cans to fill it to between a quarter and half tank. Jacob sat down in the driver seat once more and turned the key, it didn't start but sounded more promising. He tried starting one last time while mashing the gas peddle, this time it started. Stale diesel fuel filled the air in the manner of black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe as the sound of the old engine came to life. "Told ya I'd get one running" he yelled. Jacob then took a hose and went around to the other nearby vehicles and siphoned out enough fuel to fill the humvee the rest of the way up, aswell as 2 extra jerry cans of fuel to take with them. He loaded a few crates of assorted weapons and ammo into the back and drove it out of the base and up to where the rest of his group was waiting.

Riley
"Sale? You want to sell the antivenom?" Riley frowned, confused by the statement. She hadn't agreed to such a thing just yet, and she wasn't sure how she felt about it. Nevertheless, if they wanted trade Riley knew it was in their best interest to do so. "Alright- well, I guess I'll put these supplies away and we can leave?" She said tentatively, still unsure of just how something like this would play out. Though, Riley had a feeling there wasn't a lot of wiggle room here.

Ellie
"Jesus, we're not gonna kill you. Not yet." Ellie rolled her eyes, pulling out an old pair of handcuffs and clasping them around the mans wrists behind his back. "Think you can stand? Because we have some things in mind we'd like to know from you." She yanked the man to his feet, holding onto his arm to give some support to compensate for his damaged knee. "You got a doctor back home? Cause I'm thinking you only have about six more hours before that leg of yours becomes pretty worthless, pretty fast. What do we say we take you back to your little home, hm?"

Lu grunted as the handcuffs were applied to his wrists and faint trail of blood flowed from his mouth as he was yanked up ylto his feet; his internal injuries were much worse than he had initially thought. Deciding that he wouldn't want to risk putting either the small camp where had had met Riley and Viv; nor his home turf of New Seattle where his husband was homed; Lu merely grinned at the group.

"I know what you want; you ain't getting it from me so you're gonna have to go on whim and pray you can get to New Seattle without getting your heads blown off at the first hurdle..."

Dropping to his knees; Lu coughed harshly and turned his head away to spit out a mouthful of dark blood. Looking back, he chuckled for a moment before continuing..

"The Council has been expanding rapidly and with such growth comes power. When I was last there; they had six platoons assigned for cleansing out more residential areas on the new cities borders.... You three want to raid them? Do me a favor and shoot me now... Save me the trouble of dying from the moment you enter their territory.."

Slumping back and giving the group a sly smile, Lu knew that any small raid north would end in certain death.

Jacob

"This joker obviously doesn't understand what is on the line here." Jacob said walking over from the humvee and unslinging his newly acquired M16. "So I'll show him." He switched the safety off, leveled the rifle at his head , and squeezed off a single round. "He obviously would rather die than tell us anything, so who am I to deny a man his wants" Jacob said to his friends. "Let's search him, and head the direction he came from. That city he yammered on about isn't going anywhere, and he obviously came from another group somewhere in that direction" He said pointing up the road the way that the now deceased man came from.

Ellie
"Well, sounds like a plan." The woman shrugged, following the direction of his finger. There was likely to be some sort of camp he'd come from, how useful that camp would be was up for debate, but if the man they'd just killed was any indication then they didn't have much to worry about. Though, something did feel wrong in Ellie's gut, something deeper down than what would have been guilt, if she felt any of that. No, this was something wrong on a different kind of level, more of a something wasn't going to go so well. Though, that was likely the paranoia talking, or just her lunch not agreeing with her. Maybe that was the bad thing, she thought, strange idea though.

Walker

Walker worked as hard and quick as he could until the walls around the Cost-Co were complete and a functional outer gate was in place. He looked up at Roux and gave her a thumbs up. He made his way back inside to clean up a bit before going and talking to Sinclaire. "Hey, did you manage to get any of that research done while I was gone? I need to know if rain water would be irradiated, and if so how to clean it and make it safe." Walker asked.

Jacob

Jacob searched the man he had just killed. He took his satchel and backpack as well as the body armor plate the man was wearing. "I guess I'll drive," Jacob said returning to the vehicle. He got in and waited for his companions to hop in as well.

Sinclaire
"It didn't take much research." Sinclaire let out a bit of a laugh, though he thought Walker's question was the one to laugh at, he did sound rather silly himself with his lisp. "There's not enough fallout in the area yet for it to be irradiated. Most drinking sources here are fine, just that we're in a desert. Not a lot of them nowadays. The amount of radiation in this area isn't significant enough to pose a threat to our health. Most of the radiation is up north, and would go west due to the earth's rotation." Sinclaire was quite confident in his abilities when it came to research and such, he had been a journalist after all. His job had kind of required him to do scientific reading and being able to understand it, this was a walk in the park. "Think you can ask something harder next time? Just set up some bins and let it sit in a non-electric water purifier before drinking it. This costco had plenty of those, and even more plentiful bins."

Walker

"That makes everything a lot easier, I knew it was a good idea to come to you for that. Thanks bud" Walker said. He then left to go gather materials. He carried everything up to the roof and got to work. First he set up 4 20ftX20ft tarps across the roof with anchored poles to hold them up. He then went to each of them and cut a small hole in the center of each to allow the rainwater to drain through. After that he placed large containers under each tarp. Each container would easily hold 20-25 gallons of water. Finally he attached fine wire mesh over each container to act as a filter for the rain water. Walker knew that wouldn't be enough to filter the water, but he figured it would be easier to fully filter the water after it was collected from the storage containers.

By the time he was finished he was completely exhausted and covered from head to toe from dirt, dust, and grease from that morning's journey home and the work he did after he returned. Walker left the roof and went back inside to find Roux for hopefully his last de-brief for the day. When he found her she was in the meeting room. "Somehow I managed to finish all that shit I had planned. Walls are all done, and I even rigged up that water catcher. Next time it rains we will be good to go for a long while as far as water is concerned." He said as he sat down and leaned back in one of the chairs

Roux
She had been relaxing in the meeting room, eating a thing of trail mix and writing out some things she had planned to help strengthen their group. Where to look for more supies, what jobs needed done, repairs to be looked into, things to research, stuff like that. She’d been concentrated on the cipher she’d chosen to write with, making sure she was doing it right, when Walker walked in to report. “Good going.” Roux responded to Walker without looking up, instead focusing on her writing. “Might as well kick back for a few, Cross should be back soon with the doctor. We have a business meeting this evening. What you do after that is up to you.”

She could admit that putting the refugee problem on Walker’s shoulder had saved her a lot of stress. While Roux would still be undoubtedly pulling many more all-nighters it would certainly give her a bit more room to breathe. Even still, the woman would push herself more than she really should, but Roux had always been a paranoid workaholic. “Can’t get that produce soon enough. I’m dying to have something fresh to cook. Trail mix and protein bars start to get old after a while, huh?”

Walker

"Yea I know what you mean. If I can find a grill around here we'll be golden. Anyways im gonna go take a shower and then rest up until the meeting. Just have someone come thump me when Cross gets back." Walker said. He then left to gather his shower supplies, and a clean pair of jeans. He took a warm but quick shower, threw on his jeans and walked back to his bed to get some sleep before the meeting that would take place later

Roux
What seemed to be an easy going day was no longer so, as indicated by the radio buzzing at her hip. Answering it only irritated her, a report passed on by Sinclaire from one of the boys. “Walker!” Caling for him was her immediate response. “Trouble!”
Once the man had come scrambling back into the room Sinclaire had already gotten back with what Roux had asked him to get. She snatched a rifle from the journalist’s hands and shoved it into Walker’s arms. “Hey, one of the boys spotted a vehicle headed for the bridge. Haul your giant ass over there asap. This should help your chances, but you need to get your ass over there and help Cross. I don’t expect these guys to have a militia or anything so nice as that.”

Roger had Muffin beside of him. Putting some large bits of metal on her chest, neck, and her head. Making a crude bit of bear armor. The grizzly could take a bullet. Multiple ones in fact but he felt that it was better to be safe than sorry. The bear lifted her nose. Muffin smelled something she hadn't in a long time. Car exhaust. She shook off the metal on her shoulders, the bit on her head was already secured. "Where are you going girl" said Roger. The bear ignored her human and plodded to the edge of the bridge. Bellowing. Roger had his machine gun out. "Something's up" he shouted over to Riley, cocking the gun. Muffin padded back and forth. Growling. She'd never liked cars

Walker

"Fuck, alright Ill run over there and see what I can do" Walker ran back to his room to grab his back and his shotgun as back up incase things got close. He then quickly exited the building and started making his way to the bridge at a rapid jog, even at that pace it would take him 15-20 minutes to get over there.

Jacob

Jacob kept driving until he saw a city in the distance. He assumed that the man he had killed earlier had come from there. He continued on until he saw a collapsed interstate bridge. "Good as place as any to start looking in this place" he said to his group. He drove up and stopped about 20 yards from it. He turned the vehicle off and stepped out with his rifle in hand "Hello in there!" He yelled.

Riley and Viv
"Oh shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit." Riley ground her teeth at the sound of Roger's yell and the sight of people bearing rifles in the coming vehicle, turning to look back towards the people still in the camp. "Wyatt, I'm going to get Viv. She'll help, I'm no good in a fight." With that the petite woman took off as quick as her short legs would carry her. By the time she found Viv RIley was already out of breath, panicked and anxious. "Viv- A car- It doesn't look friendly."
"I heard. Get to the supplies, make sure nothing turns up missing." The turk had already started arming herself, her makeshift spear and a shotgun thrown over her back as well as a small pistol tucked into a holster on her side. She was one of the first ones to greet the man leaving the vehicle, her shotgun aimed for his head from behind a nearby piece of rubble. "Who the fuck are you?! We don't take visitors here, now leave." The group didn't look good for them at all, they might really be in trouble. Lu was nowhere to be found, but Roger was still close at hand and Wyatt had luckily been around, so maybe they stood a chance. Viv had seen army men at work, and this would be Wyatt's chance to prove he wanted to help her and the rest of the group.

Jacob

Jacob readied his rifle as the woman came out. "I think we may have ran into one of your friends a little ways back up the road." he said with a smirk. He reached back into humvee and grabbed the breastplate he had removed from the man. He then threw it onto the ground between the woman and himself. "Look familiar?" Jacob asked.

Walker

He jogged to the bridge until he got within about 100 yards of it. He saw Viv standing out front, but couldn't yet see who she was trying to fend off. He slowed down and picked a building to go into. It was a 4 story building across the street from where Viv was standing. He made his way up to the third floor a quiet as possible and set up his rifle a tad bit away from a window. He could finally see the people that she was trying to scare off. It was a group of three bandit who had drove up in a military humvee, but obviously weren't military personel. Walker recovered his breath from running over and put the crosshairs of the rifle scope on who he guessed was their leader, aiming for his head

Muffin smelled the air. Wet nose twitching in the harsh sunlight of the desert. That smelled like a human from around here, and blood. Muffin had smelled humans like these before. The bear roared at the human with breastplate. Clawing the ground, and plodding. Roger kept his rifle pointed at one of the bandits. Not the one Viv was aiming for that'd be redundant. It was even. A three on three. Three on four if that one guy fought as well.

Royce
"Look here now. We aren't in the buisness of hunting people. This guy tried to kill me and my people and we have to know if you're going to come for us. If so, may as well settle it all now." Would they buy it? The guy didnt mention any names, he must have been new to the group, probably unimportant to them. Maybe they didnt even know his name. But maybe they would come out to talk. Then... Christ I always get the shakes on jobs like this. Easier to get to the killin. Then it is either my problem, or very suddenly, very fast, it wouldnt be. Royce felt his knees bend, and a deep pleasure and shot of adrenaline come straight from his lower back. He was ready.

Cross
These two bit fucking punks are going to get themselves hurt. They announced themselves? What kind of Mickey mouse bullshit do I see before my very eyes. If they had a lick of sence they would have found a way to send a message and let these people sweat. But this is a prime opportunity to win these people over. Looking out, he saw Walker leveling his rifle at this guy, good man. Am I faster than this chump? Hell yes but what about this guy? Nobody's pointing and presenting yet but... the guy with the m16 is the problem. Walker has a shot on the kid, and that woman? The Amazon has her. Cross looked down to the .45 automatic at his hip, and moved it to his appendix. Easier to draw with one's hands up. He stretched and walked out, with his hands raised high. "Hey now fellas no need for all that. We barely knew that guy, practically vanished this morning. Sorry to hear he tried to get you all. How about we talk? I'm sure we could help each other, eh?" All the while he took slow and deliberate steps to the humvee. Until he was within ten yards of it. Close enough for any special forces pistol entrance exam. All he needed to do now is wait. The second the man with the rifle flicks his eyes...

Viv and Ellie
Viv watched carefully as Wyatt lined up a shot, seeing Walker in the distance as well. Jumping all three at the same time would be a perfect opportunity. They said they wanted to talk but they had just thrown Lu's breastplate on the ground. They meant business, and their business would end in some dead bodies. Carefully the turkish woman watched as the other woman, the one with the bandits, stepped forward, aiming to cut Wyatt off.

"Hey just what do you think you're doing? We didn't say you could-" Ellie's sentence was cut short. It was just like throwing a javelin in track and field events, only a little more weighted and she didn't exactly have the chance to run to build up momentum. Though, she didn't need to. The shot may have been shaky, the tree trimmer may have been weighted wrong for a javelin throw, may have missed what she had originally aimed for, but it hit the bandit woman. It went clear through, pinning her to the soil beneath her. It was a sound and a sight she didn't enjoy, but the sound of gunshots from her allies reminded her they had come through.

Maybe Viv could trust them after all. It was almost too easy, she had thought, but that thought was rudely interrupted by a shot to her upper arm. The bandit woman hadn't died, least not before she got her final shot in. It was over for that bandit woman soon enough, and Viv reminded herself they were just lucky that they pulled the trigger first. That was all survival meant out here sometimes; pulling the trigger first so that the other person dies instead of you. It was a sorry kind of world.

Cross
He saw the spear in the air, and saw the man with the rifle kill himself the second he took his eyes, and the muzzle of his rifle off him. "Walker!" He yelled, hopefully loud enough to hear to know he needed to take the shot as he dropped both hands and drew, having the man's head in his sights before the old leather holster had settled, and squeezed off two rounds. One striking his upper cheek, and the other hitting his neck. The .45 may as well tore his face off and ripped out his throat, for the damage it did. The man slumped to the floor, harmlessly firing off a round into the dirt between Viv and Cross. And while he was falling. He heard a single rifle shot ring out.

Jacob

As the man approached his group he eyed the .45 he had. All of a sudden Ellie was struck by whatever that other woman had just thrown. Jacob quickly brought his rifle to his shoulder and was just about to open fire when he heard a shot ring out. He was on the ground bleeding out and choking to death from a gunshot to the neck.

Walker

Walker watched as the bandit woman stepped up front and then got impaled by Viv's makeshift spear. As the man he was aiming at shouldered his rifle Walker fired first. He watched as the bullet struck the man in the neck, sending him to the ground. He then quickly slid the bolt back to eject the spent casino and slammed another round in ready to fire again. Cross was quick with a follow up so he didnt have to fire again.

Walker made his way back down to the first floor the out of the building to go meet Viv and Cross.

Viv and Riley
"God dammit." Viv hissed as she clamped a hand over the fresh wound on her upperarm. "Got fucking lucky there. Only got away with one hit." She grumbled to no one in particular, eyes focused on the blood leaking out of her arm. "Sure glad we have Riley. I'm heading back to let her know it's okay, and to get this piece of metal out of my arm. Mind prying that bitch off my weapon?" Viv wasn't a woman of many words when she was hurt, and who could blame her?
"Riles," She huffed, throwing herself down in the chair by the desk. "Get this piece of shit out my arm? We're safe now, don't worry."
"Okay." Riley's lips pressed into a fine line as she stashed her pistol away, swiftly retrieving her supplies. Once she sat down next to Viv Riley didn't look at her, just looked the wound over and tied a strip of cloth around her arm above the wound. "Did you kill them?"
"Just make sure I don't bleed out, Riles."
For the most part Riley was silent, working to stop the bleeding then pulling out pieces of the bullet. "I'm not a child, you know. I've seen people die, and I'm not squeamish."
The second disinfectant hit the wound she hissed through her teeth in pain, closing her eyes so she didn't have to look at it. "Shouldn't have to." She grumbled through the pain.
"I'm a doctor and the world ended four years ago. No use sheltering a grown woman."
"Yes, they're dead. There's a woman's corpse impaled on the ground outside, one's missing a face and throat, and the other missing his whole head thanks to me, Roger, and our new friends. Good enough?"
Riley said nothing in response to this, finishing up her work and applying a pressure bandage. "Stay in one piece for a little longer. I have to go run an errand. That's why Wyatt was here."
Viv didn't like Riley going off on her own, but if Wyatt was shooting for them then she supposed she could count her in safe company. "What kind of errand?"
"Business. About getting supplies from these people. Going to see what their set up looks like, meet the big hat." She shrugged picking up her old yellow backpack, throwing it over one shoulder. As she made to catch up with Wyatt and Walker she turned to say one last thing. "If you so much as move a muscle in that arm while I'm gone I will tie you to a bed. Let it heal."

Roger took a breath of relief. Well that was one fight he wouldn't have to worry about. Muffin trotted up, and picked up Lu's breastplate. She then walked over to the nearest human. Who happened to be the one she'd almost attacked and dropped it in front of him. Huffing for him to inspect it.
(Where'd everybody go)
