Realistic or Modern Will You Survive?

Faraday closes her bag, having finally filled it with enough food to last her another two weeks, which she will then have to repeat this journey once again. She throws the bag over her shoulder before walking over to the door. She pauses for a moment, sharply glancing over her shoulder to give one last look of the room, now growing dark from the setting sun. The shelves were nearly empty now, but she estimated it still had another month's worth before she would need to move on. She was hoping to not be around this part of the city by then.

Faraday quietly shuts the door behind her, making sure it was tightly shut. She stands on steps, looking around the empty and fenced plot as the sun's rays warmed her face. Her heels quietly clicked against the steps as she descended down them towards the ground. This was only a temporary life style, once she finds her way through the city to her destination, hope will return... however it has been three years now.. and any pathway there still remains swarming with zombies, as if they were specifically there to prevent her from reaching it.

She still, given the circumstances, remained pristine, her long hair tightly tied up, and clothing and footwear always maintained. It was as if she thought of this city as her laboratory and she was continuing her research life as it was before the outbreak.

The quiet clicking of the pavement slowly came to a stop as she stops in front of the entrance in which she first entered. The one zombie she tied down was still frantically reaching through the fence, but its two companions were nowhere in sight. Most likely having lost the urge to chase her, and become tempted by her "secret recipe again". Her brows furrow slightly as she stares at yet another failed attempt.

" Blasted... Well then...shall we move onto phase two." Faraday takes her dissection kit out of the front pocket once again, withdrawing a scalpel while the Zombie continues to stare blankly at her while it desperately tries bite through the fence.

" Now... my dear, let's see your condition... don't worry... this will hurt me more than it will hurt you" She smirks as she slowly slides the blade along the skin around the point of injection. The skin easily opens to reveal muscle in which she begins to inspect.

The sound of the gunshot boomed throughout the building and caused Anna to flinch in surprise. Max began whimpering uneasily as the two of them jogged over the broken shards of wood and debris towards where Romaine had gone. 'He smells the zombies..." she thought with dread. "they will hear the gunshot and come after us!'"

She almost crashed into Romaine when she rounded the corner of the hallway at the same time as her cousin was hobbling down the corridor. She gasped when she saw the wounds. "Are you okay?" she stammered before following after her friend who continued to walk even though her leg was injured and she had scratches on her arms.

Of course she was aware that her cousin was immune to the infection but no immunity would stop dead hands from ripping open one's stomach if they were too slow to get away.

Romaine passed her the wrinkled tourist brochure and urged for them to leave. Anna unfolded the map and looked up at the wounded girl. "Are you sure you are okay to walk? We are going to have to run." When she saw that stubborn look on her friend's face she knew the answer. "Let's go then!"

While they were jogging towards the door Anna stole a glance at the map. "Okay -umm- well lets see whats on here..." she said while trying to look for any place of value while at the same time trying to not run into anything. To the left of the point labeled "you are here" was a crude circle drawn in purple marker circling the dot with the number 25 printed on it. She could hear distant groans and shuffling as she looked it up in the legend to discover it was pointing to a shop called "Happy Cat Grocery".

"Okay I found a spot." Anna whispered loud enough for Romaine to hear. "Its not too far, we just need to..." she cut herself short whenever Max suddenly growled beside her and stared at the doorway. Silhouetted against the light of the setting sun was the hunched form of a zombie, blocking their path out. Her heart began to pound frantically in her chest and she forced herself to tear her vision away from the creature. There was a broken window on the wall adjacent to the door... if she could just get by.

Slowly she reached down to pick up rusted stapler and raised it behind her head and then... with a loud clatter the stapler hit the wall in the opposite end of the room and caught the attention of the zombie. With an unsavory gargle it looked towards the wall and lurched forward towards where the stapler had fallen.

"NOW!" Anna said, sprinting towards the window. At her signal Max ran ahead and leaped through the low-lying window, his tail disappearing over to the other side. . She quickly helped Romaine vault over the obstacle before climbing over it herself. She could hear a sickly clicking sound behind them as the zombie's rotting bones cracked against each other as it moved.

Romaine ran besides the pain out of the place like it was on fire.she ran a little behind her cousin because of the pain but she kept up the pace, she did not want to be zombie food.as she ran she counted every step to try to forget about the pain.as they ran she began to huff and puff from running so much.she could hear the sounds of moans and groans running not too far behind.she could feel her heart pumping in her chest as she and her cousin grew closer and closer to their destination every step they took. she could just see the out line of the store in distance.she made her legs go faster, she new that she would regret that when she stopped but right now, screw the pain she was not getting eaten.she now ran about a inch in front of Anna, now she could see the fence of the store. she would need to climb that even though the throbbing pain in her arm, legs, face and now lungs.she and Anna were just reached the fence when she stopped and lifted up a section at the bottom for Max to climb through, once Anna and Max got on the other side of the fence she pushed her self trough and they were finally able to breath.

As soon as she made it to the other side Anna scrambled away from the fence and stared through the wire mesh, sitting down and panting heavily from the excursion. Rotting hands stuck through the fence and clawed the air separating the living from the dead. That was close- too close for her liking- not to mention they had just entered the city which didn't seem like a good omen. An involuntary shiver ran up her back as she saw the half eaten face of one of their pursuers which seemed to be squirming with the cluster of maggots clinging to it. She always hated the rotten ones.

"How was that for an entrance?" Anna said breathlessly to her companion, trying to let her humor hide her fear. She took Max's face in both of her hands and landed a kiss on his forehead. "Who's a good boy?" she said "You did a good job back there!" The dog wagged his tail happily and licked her face in response. Afterwards Anna got back onto her feet and turned to look at the shop. The golden paint had chipped off of the sign over the years but the unmistakable symbol of a waving cat still stood above it, its little smile untouched by age.

Faraday closely inspects the gash she made on the arm of the zombie. It did appear that the solution was injected correctly, evident from the degrading black holes that formed on the muscle around the area she injected the needle not even a couple hours ago... a mere side effect... but her overall objective.. was unsuccessful once again. Faraday moves to make another incision into the muscle, but freezes when she hears the loud rattling sound of the fence at the opposite end of the plot.

" Odd... what might have drawn the-" Faraday turns around to view the two women and their dog sitting exhausted on the ground, and before them, the fence groaning in protest as approximately what could be easily 30 zombies desperately tries to break through to rip them apart. The fence was not going to hold much longer.

" Shit.." Faraday grabs her bag as if debating if she should make a break for it through the entrance of the fence. Against her better judgement, she walks calmly towards the women, her face emotionless as she digs into her bag, removing a small vial that contained the same contents as her "special recipe" jar.She walks past the women catching their breath, giving them a quick glance before having a closer inspection of the numbers they were against.

"I see you brought a party..." Faraday states as she throws the vial over the fence, which would fall to the ground, shattering into pieces, exposing the contents to the air behind the group of zombies.

Faraday immediately looks down at the two women catching their breath. " Hurry, we do not have much time. Into this building." Faraday begins walking back towards the building. She walks quickly, but steady." I would be quick... they don't look to be friendly guests." Faraday begins to walk up the steps, without looking back to see if they were following. This was not going according to plan.

Anna's eyes wearily followed the woman as she approached them "We arn't here to steal anything!" she blurted out in a hurry, hoping the woman didn't think they were a threat. In the current state of the world it was not the undead that were the real danger, it was the surviving humans. However the strange woman didn't seem to care for what she had said and strutted up towards the fence in.. wait was she wearing heels? What was she thinking to wear such footwear in a survival situation. Now that she thought about it, the woman seemed oddly clean and tidy.

Anna hastily got herself off of the ground and was about to apologize for trespassing whenever the woman began calmly addressing the horde of zombies as if they were nothing but a group of pesky flies. She watched in awe whenever she lobbed the strange jar out above the fence which resulted in the horde turning around and shambling towards it like insects to a light. Even Max seemed to be upset by the strange scent and fought against her grip on his service dog harness in an attempt to flee away from the unnatural scent. It took a couple of moments of sharp commands for the canine to calm down enough to listen to his master but the outburst eventually faded and soon he was following after Anna dutifully.

As she followed after the mysterious woman she decided to ask her some questions about the substance. "What was that?" she asked. "It made the zombies forget about us...Max didn't like it either."

Faraday looks at the dog, intrigued as its owner desperately tries to calm it down, as if studying the scene. Once the two women walk up to the stairs, Faraday nods at them with a small smile, shrugging off her apologies. Don't be sorry... It is not the first time this place has been found.." Faraday notices the woman inspecting her attire, but offers no explanation. They had more pressing issues. Faraday looks down at her dog, almost as if talking to herself in thought, " I had no idea it had that influence on dogs... I wonder if" Faraday shakes her head " My apologies, come inside quickly. That chemicals will not remain concentrated for long... we must hurry inside. Come. I will explain once we are safe inside... Unless you wish to become acquainted with them. They are not the best of company" Faraday laughs slightly, looking at the crowd of zombies roaming dazed. When some of them seem to look their way, Faraday looks stern." Come.." Faraday waves them in as she holds the door open for them to enter. Once they enter she would quickly close the door, locking it.

Anna could see that Max's outburst caught the strange woman's interest but she just assumed it was harmless intrigue. Besides, this person had just offered them shelter and it was either take it our go back out with the zombies. She nodded her head in agreement whenever the woman told them to go into the grocery store. Once they were inside, Max began wagging his tail when he caught the scent of the food and unleashed a soft bark to let his master know that he had found supplies, just like he had been trained to do. Anna didn't need much help this time though; the shelves were not full but there still was quite a lot of food in here, all of which looked completely mouthwatering considering she and Romaine had lived off of mostly berries, nuts and creatures Anna was able to shoot down.

"Quite a lot of supplies you have here." Anna said. "You are very lucky."

When the gun was pulled out, Hanni simply giggled aloud. Just like how she would react when finally facing Death. She opened her mouth to respond but her attention was snapped at the weird signals the other girl before her, the one she was holding a machete at the neck, with her hands. A few seconds went by as the crazed young teen blinked blankly at the unknown message sent to her. She tilted her head curiously and arched her eyebrows. Sign language isn't something she knows. Maybe she heard of it at some point, like when she refused to speak in her younger years and they thought she was mute or something. Teaching her was pointless since she was easily distracted by other things. Later on she broke their fingers but that isn't important. She glanced at the gun-girl and back at magic hands girl, seeing maybe it was some sort of telepathic signal. She gasped at the possibility of it.

"Are you aliens?!"

She practically jumped at the notion, almost nicking the neck of Sam. Her eyes glanced at the both of them expectionally. She've always wanted to see if the extraterrestrials bleed green. Green is such a nice color. Maybe it even tastes better than the boring red blood of zombies and humans. This excited her to no end, like a puppy promised treats for not ripping the toys. She grinned at the both of them, mostly at Cece though because of the threat of death. Her eyes showed a slight crazed dare for her to do it, to pull the trigger. An excuse for her to see their blood color. A cough escaped her during the staring showdown which totally killed the moment.

Sam nodded, almost as if she new exactly what was going on. The person before her was sick with the virus, that's why she wasn't okay; at least that's what Sam wanted to believe. When Sam had tried sign language the person before her didn't seem to know it so Sam could only sigh silently. I really should get pen and paper. She told herself as she looked around for something, anything to tell the person before her that they were harmless and simply passing through. Hm..well..they think we're aliens..and they don't seem to fear death..so..this is already risky..and I don't have much..but I wonder..

Sam walked away from the person before her quite calmly and to the counter behind them. She made no aggressive moves as she did so hoping that would show she wasn't trying to be aggressive as she reached the counter. The first thing she noticed was the receipt roll was still full and blank. Paper. That's good..now to find something to write with...She thought as she jerked the receipt roll from its holder and rolled out a long piece for her to write on. Come on.. pen.. She looked around a bit more finding keys and more glass. Come on.. something to write with.. She thought, her calm still about her though she was careful to watch Cece and the person closely between looking for a writing utensil.

Eventually Sam found a half decent highlighter and she began to write on the receipt paper before her. "Are you okay?" The message read in light blue highlighter. She ripped a bit off the receipt roll and held it up her handwriting surprisingly decent after not writing in a year or so. Sam knew all her move were risky and t was very likely that the insanity eating away at the person mind before her was beyond saving at this point in time, but she figured she might as well try before giving up and death came to everyone so..why not try and make peace before war.

Cassandra eyes quickly went from the girl, to Sam, and then back to the girl and then AGAIN back to Sam. The situation was slowly progressing from "weird" to "fucking batshit crazy" and Cassandra wasn't sure how to feel anymore. SPECIALLY when the weird girl mentioned aliens.

"Sam...are you serious right now?" She hissed as she watched the girl calmly walk away, to look for SOMETHING. And in accordance to the surrealness of the whole situation it turned out she was looking for PAPER...which actually felt quite anti-climatic in Cassandra's personal opinion. But when she raised a paper that read "Are you okay?" Cassandra wasn't sure was surprised her more: that the girl was apparently fucking fearless, or the fact that she was right and Sam was officially too trusting for her own good.

"What kind of white people nonsense is this?"
She muttered under her breath as she carefully stepped back, never lowering her gun. Sure, Sam could try to befriend the weird girl...but Cassandra sure as fuck wasnt taking any chances until the girl lowered that freaking machete.

When magic-hands girl walked back, Hanni's entire attention was fixated her, completely ignoring the fact that a gun is still being aimed at her. She slowly lowered the machete, careful not to make any sudden movements. One could say it was like how an animal looks at their prey, but that's nonsense. They're all on the same side! Sort of. They were both looking at eachother like seeing who would blowup first. When the small note was finished and laid out for her, it took a moment trying to read the highlighted words. Luckily, she could read english instead of the swift telepathic movements of hand talking. The question confused her though. It questioned something that should be obvious. Her cheeks curved upwards at the preparation of responding.

"What do you mean, Alien? Of course I'm okay! Everything is okay! I have everything I ever wanted! There's no need to ask. I'm happy staying here in Hell and don't wish for you to take me away to your home planet. But you can stay here! There's lots of dead people you can blast!"

She then proceeded to imitate using a ray-gun with her machete. Her words held an eerie feeling, as ridiculous as it has sounded. She wasn't offering. It was a demand. Except the last part, of course. Who were her to tell aliens how to kill? That's just plain rude! Though she always wanted to see how those extraterrestrials firearms work. Maybe the gun threatening to shoot her was one? Her childish laugh echoed at the thought.

Sam let out a silent sign as she began to write again, this clearly being the only way she'd be able to communicate to the person before her. "I'm not an alien." The note said as she held it up, her face still impassive though Sam was growing very tired of the games as well as growing weary of the fast setting sun. The time, if she had to guess, was probably about close to dusk which meant trouble was sure in ensue. Come on. Just let us go. I'm sure even though you're fucking insane you're afraid of the dark too. Or at least what laid within it's haunting eeriness of torture. She thought to herself, growing more and more irritated. Sam was patient to a point, but when she reached her limit...well she tended to stop caring about what could happen and go with the risks, thus why she had so many scars, many of which visible. The most currently visible scar was the one on her cheek that stretched from her cheek bone to her jaw. A few were showing on her arms where the camouflage jacket was falling back due to her having to hold up signs, but Sam could careless who saw her scars or what they thought of them. They told her story, and what a long one it was.

Faraday smiles as her new company scans over the remaining food supply. She studies them for a moment, as she responds." I have been fortunate to come across this place along my travels." Faraday pauses for a moment, looking stern. "Now, I have some questions for you both. Answer them, and I shall answer any questions you may have. First I need you to follow me, my special recipe will not distract them for long. We need to make sure they don't know we are in here. They will hopefully continue on their way by tomorrow morning, as long as we remain hidden. You all look hungry, you may eat some of the food I have in this bag while we speak"

Faraday walks over to a door, leading to the back room. " Follow me" She says with a grin before entering through the door way.
