Realistic or Modern Will You Survive?

Verac annoyed stared at the man, "You're in the way, and you talk too much." Varrick turned to look at Verac, 'oh man not that look again..' Varrick pushed his thoughts away and intervened, "Look man, were not savages here, were not gonna bust down a door without knowing whats on the other side, for all we know the guys on the other side are more armed than we are, we'll get ourselves killed. And who the hell do you think you are telling my brother that without me he wouldnt survive? With the crap he knows he could systematically shutdown your body with a single drug in the right spot and..." He didnt get a chance to finish his sentence because the door behind the gun toting bufoon, both he and Verac cocked their heads to the side and peered inside. Verac was to first to speak, "Holy shit you are one burned jalepeno." He reached into his bag and pulled out some home made ointment, pushing the man aside he held out the container, "here, this should help with your skin, its a sunburn ointment made from cactus, its an old mexican remedy my grandmother taught me about."

(I'm still trying to figure out where everybody is, so I'll leave my character's position kinda vague)

The rusted iron from the ladder scratched her palms, but Cassandra didn't even seem to notice...mostly because she was kinda busy trying to get down from the fire escape and not die in the process. "With my shitty luck I just might be the asshole that dies from a broken neck in the zombie apocalypse" She mumbled under her breath as she looked down and saw the seemingly empty street.

At first, the idea of leaving her hideout to go loot some apartment had seemed quite smart. However, now that she was hanging from some crummy ladder trying to escape the pack of zombies she had found in the apartment...well, she just wasn't so sure anymore.

She was calculating she only had a few meters to go till she reached the ground, when she suddenly heard steps below. Instantly her whole body froze, her brain went quickly into survival mode and she managed to swallow the curse that almost escaped from her lips. Almost mechanically she let go of the ladder with one hand, and reached for the switchblade hiding in her boot.

She knew she had two options, either she climbed back up again and dealed with the zombies, or she climbed down and faced whatever was down there. Both were actually extremely shitty ideas, but at this point in her life "shitty" was the new "good".

Either way, she knew she was partially hidden by the shadow of the building, and the ladder, so she decided to wait, her grip around the metal tightening as she got ready either to jump down or climb up.

Sam had backed into the alleyway far enough that the man had slid out of view yet when she turned to run..well there was another person right behind her. Sam couldn't quite make out if it was a male or female, but what she could assume was that either the person only a few feet away was a zombie or another person that had climbed down the fire escape on the apartments next to her. Shit. Please don't be someone who wished to do me harm..or don't be a zombie..but if you.. be one of the stupid ones. She begged on the inside as she slowly approached the figure, it becoming clearly that the figure was a female. She looked to be normal..non-zombie like, but would she do any harm? Sam was unsure as she gripped her knife tighter, the Navy symbol digging into her palm and most defiantly leaving an indent as Sam waved to the girl; trying to get her attention and hoping that Sam, herself, didn't just get herself hurt from whoever or whatever zombie was there.

@Mayhem

Don't look at me, Cassandra prayed silently as some girl (the alive kind) came into view. For a second she almost considered climbing up, and playing dumb...but then the girl started waving.

"Mierda" Cassandra cursed, before she took a deep breath and jumped down, landing neatly on her feet. "I don't want no trouble" She said as she raised her hands, trying hard not to laugh at the surrealness of it all. "You know, I've done some weird surreal shit in the last few months, but I think a knife fight in a dark alley might be a tad TOO dramatic...even for me".

That said, she didn't actually lower her switchblade, and though her voice was nonchalant, an audible edge still remained. If Cassandra had learned anything from the world going to shit, it was that you could trust the undead to always have the same repertoire...but humans on the other hand were a whole different matter.

Humans were always fucking unpredictable...and that could get you killed faster than any zombie.

Sam nodded at the girl's words, careful not to raise her blade unless she had to. In a rather calm motion and with the hand Sam wave to the girl with, she signed, "I don't wish to hurt you. I was only passing through." She hoped that the girl knew sign language, or maybe recognized what it was, as Sam wasn't going to speak. Not that she couldn't, but for the fact she wouldn't. Sam's piercing grey eyes stayed glued on the girl's as Sam's face was completely emotionless and rather rugged looking mainly due to not washing in a while. Sam didn't really show much emotion, which a lot of the time got her untrusted and in sticky situations..so here she was really hoping that didn't happen and she could get away unharmed and without harming another actual person.

James drawing his 23 and a half inch sword with its slight curve, as he drew it up and then brought it pointed straight, he grasped the katana now with both hands for both power and mobility as he slowly steps forward pace by pace. He thought he heard sounds of down the street but not exactly, he breathes with considerate timing, James didn't want to find more zombies or something dangerous, it would be a drag to go through a horde of them as he could of stop but as he almost reached the start of the alleyway, a zombie, bangs on the glass door of a restaurant, moaning for the taste of his blood. James didn't mind the zombie but he could see the tiniest crack in the glass, meaning the zombie was gonna get out sooner or later but James could care less as he sheaths his sword and walks back to car.

Tony

Tony looked at the pair and kept her hands up as she moved away from the boy and dropped them when he opened the door. Great... more people... Tony rolled her eyes and instinctively grabbed her climbing pick, in case if she needed to get out of a sticky situation. Tony looked at the younger girl and took a journal and a really sharpened down pencil from her backpack, writing "hi. I'm Tony and I don't know these guys. I thought I was alone" before handing the note over to the girl and looking back over to the guys.

Tonys silence started after the apocalypse started. After she watched her parents and siblings brutally die. She couldn't bring herself to talk after that, she was afraid of her own voice. It was a way of coping for Tony. Last time she had talked was when a friend of hers had needed comforting during his death a few months ago. She didn't talk unless someone needed her. When they needed to hear her voice. But other than that she was silent.

Cassandra shook her head, both in frustration and to show that she didn't understand sign language. Sure, she knew some basics phrases she had learned from a friend, but she really doubted asking for a fucking bathroom would help right now. However, the girl didn't look like a bandit or a crazy person, so Cassandra decided to asume that her intentions were probably (and hopefully) peaceful...also Cassandra was 70% sure she could probably take her in a fight if things went downhill.

"Look, neither one of us wants trouble and that's fucking peachy. Maybe just point me toward whatever you were running away from so I can avoid it, and I'll be on my way" She said as she nodded toward the alleyway's entrance. Cassandra concluded that if push came to shove, she would actually rather deal with the zombies upstairs than to have to deal with whatever was in the street.

@xEmoBunnehx

Sam nodded, inwardly sighing, as she pointed to the exit of the alleyway behind her. It's a shame people don't know sign language.. It's useful.. She told herself as the grip on her knife lessened as she knew the girl didn't want trouble and Sam certainly didn't either, so she gestured to the entrance behind the girl; attempting to tell her that was the way to go for safety. Then she heard it, moans and groans from the dead. They sounded close, and smelled even closer, but where were they? Sam risked taking her eyes off the girl to look around; finding that the zombies were no where to be seen..yet. Shit. She thought as her eyes looked back to the girl in front of her, wondering what she might do.

@Mayhem

Walking through the forest, holding his his pistol and breathing heavily. He had just got away from a horde of them. Reloading his gun he ran behind a tree. Being exhausted he slumped down onto his bottom trying to catch his breath. Now reaching into his bag, pulling out some bandages and wrapping them around the palm of his hand. 'Note to self: remember to look before you jump' he thought to himself while applying pressure on his hand.

James takes the battery and cables as he became paranoid that someone was here but he didn't so he quickly put the wires in his bag and carried the car battery, it still had some juice left in it, he'll probably go back and get some more but for now he was fine with one. He traces back his steps and makes way back to his "base", it was just his first spot to go to as he didn't know where to go when the apocalypse came and went to the first thing that caught in his mind. The tower now before him again, a fancy work place upstairs, which he hasn't gone up for some reason but anyone below worked in low class desks and were stuffed together like pigs in a pen, the "perfect" base to stop anyone from entering, though they could just break the glass and topple the desk blockades. He entered and went to the basement of the place to find the main voltage box.

"Well, that's my cue" Cassandra concluded as the familiar sound (and smell) of zombies reached them. She turned toward the girl and gave her a wry smile before she closed her switchblade with a practiced flick and put it back in her boot. "Wish I knew how to sign "good luck" or something...instead of "fuck you" and "where's the bathroom?" She mused out loud, as she grabbed her fire poker from her backpack.

"Also, I'm just gonna be blunt here, and politely ask you not to stab me in the back while I look around" She said as she gave the girl a warning look before quietly making her way toward the alleyway's exist. She crouched next to the wall and took a peak, spotting 4 infected roaming ahead.

@xEmoBunnehx

Sam rolled her eyes at the girl, a soundless chuckle escaping her as she edged closer to the end of the alleyway with the girl, wary not to get too close to the girl. Sam looked out just slightly past the corner of the alleyway, noticing four zombies headed their way. If we're lucky we won't get one that yells..She thought to herself as she watched them get closer and closer to the two of them. Sam raised her knife, glancing at the girl and mouthing, "left two." No words spoken, just simple lip movements to tell the girl that Sam would get the two on the left, leaving her with the ones on right. Hopefully the girl could read lips better than understanding sign language.

@Mayhem

Now that the girl was "speaking the universal language of survival", Cassandra nodded quickly. She calculated she could probably stab the first one with her fire poker, and use the momentum of pulling the fire poker out to hit the other one across the face. "Let's fuck shit up" She mouthed to the girl before she raised her fingers to signal they would do it on the count of three.

"1...2...3"

Cassandra quickly sprang forward, taking advantage of the zombie's low reflexes to swiftly bury the tip of the fire poker in his eye socket. Not waisting a heartbeat, she planted her feet firmly on the ground, and tugged the fire poker free. Propelled by the movement, she spun around and slammed the fire poker against the other zombie's face, and as rotten bits of brain and skull flied around everywhere the girl couldn't help but think of how easily she would kill for a fucking shower.

@xEmoBunnehx

Sam smirked at the girl's comment. I like her attitude. She thought, before following the girl in short pursuit. Sam wasted not a single second as she drove her knife into the first one's forehead then yanked it out and artfully stabbed the other in the temple. Not a single moment was missed as their small fight occurred it seemed. Sam was quite happy that they hadn't encountered the Hybrid. Those were the ones Sam despised and hated more than the rest.

After pulling her knife from the second zombie's temple, Sam wiped the blade off on her camouflage jacket until it was clean. Once done she looked to the girl, the smirk still on her face and some fresh blood from the zombies. "Nicely done." She mouthed, still nothing spoken though. Sam bent down and began rummaging through the pockets of one of the zombies she'd killed, finding a wallet and opening it. Inside was the man's license, Social Security number and some money, along with a piece of paper with a number on it. Nothing good on him.

@Mayhem

Putting her foot on top of the dead zombie's (she had to wonder if that was that too redundant) chest, she started wiping the fire poker on his clothes. "Despite how long it's been, I'm still not liking the idea of that shit getting on me" She explained as she couldn't help, but give the girl a "seriously?" look when she saw she was wiping her knife on her own clothes. "I gotta respect your style though" She mumbled bluntly, before she shrugged and started rummaging through the other zombie's pocket.

"Pero si estas forrado hijo de puta..." she mumbled angrily as all she found was a wallet full of credit cards, some lose change and an empty pack of cigarettes. "Just another great day in the fucking zombie apocalypse, am I right?" She said in a sarcastic sing song tone of voice to the other girl.

Cam just stared at the scientist when he made his comment about a "burnt jalepeno",

but he jumped forward quickly when the man offered out the tub of cream, stuffing it in his backpack after snatching it

out of the man's hands. "Thanks, I could use this where I'm going." he said speaking cooly now. He offered a hand out for the man

to shake and waited for him to take it. If there was any risk of these people being bandits or murderers, it had now faded away. These

days were harder than before, and people couldn't afford to waste supplies on attempts to lure out an enemy's trust anymore.

Carter took the notebook from the girl and read over it. She found it odd that the girl didn't just tell her rather

than writing it down, but accepted it nevertheless. She watched as her brother took the cream out of the man's hands and held in a laugh.

"I'm Carter, and that's my brother Cam. Is there anything you need?" she wrote, passing the notebook back to Tony,

hoping she could help her in some way, even if it was with something small. She and her brother had not been accompanied by anyone in a while, and Carter didn't want to ruin her chance at having a bit more help, and aside from that, she was excited to show off some of her and her brother's tricks and traps. She was unsure about the men that were outside the door, but she would take them on as well if they were friendly.

Verac looked down at the young mans hand and smiled; it had been so long since he last shook someones hand, the last time mustve been his professors hand back when he was in school. He extended his own hand, firmly grasping it and gave it a shake. "My name is Verac, biologist and wasteland doctor. This is my younger brother Varrick, the last remnants of law and justice. Hes basically a cop, even sports our fathers badge." Varrick only nodded at the strangers before him, he was still wary about them. "Verac trusts you guys, so thats good enough for me."

Verac retracted his arm, "Well you should apply that ointment when you get the chance, it'll do wonders for your sunburnt skin." Verac looked over the young mans shoulder to see two girls behind him, he concentrated on one with the ice pick. "Hmmm, small frame, blanched skin, slight protrusion of the bones from the appendicular skeleton. Hmm you havent been eating well based on your lack of meat, blanched skin shows a lack of water. You ma'am are overall suffering from mal-nutrition. We should get you something to eat, something that'll actually act as a reliable food source." Verac took a step forward hoping to be welcomed by the strangers.

Sam shrugged as she moved to the other zombie. The minute her hands slipped into his pockets, she found a lighter. It was small, well..felt small. As Sam pulled it out, she stood up and looked to the girl, the lighter outstretched to her. Sam didn't really now if it worked or not, but it was the best she could do for a gift if it did and though it was still small, it was a lighter nonetheless. It was her way of kinda saying, 'Thanks for not killing me.' Also Sam didn't really need it since she had matches. "Here." She mouthed to the girl. "I don't know if it works or not but here, take it." She added, a very small smile crossing her dirty face.

@Mayhem

"I trust you enough, you haven't shot us yet and that's enough for me. Anyways, you look and you behave friendly, and that to me, is being friendly." He said as he stepped forward a bit, he then looked sternly at Verac and Varric and at the woman with the ice pick, for onece, his face turned quite serious than before.

"Verac's right, you there, ma'am, you need a plenty of food, you're suffering from the first phase of malnutrition, basically, it's chronic hunger. We have plenty of food in our respective homes and we don't mind sharing, do we?" He said as he looked a Verac.

"By the way, my name's Christopher Doyle, I'm a guy who's trying to go on the long run in this apocalypse. And plus, you can't really be sure he's the
only and last law enforcement officer in the whole, nevertheless, law doesn't matter in the apocalypse, it's just the survival of the fittest."

"Well fuck me..." Cassandra whispered in surprise as she saw the girl extending the lighter toward her. It was in that moment that Cassandra decided this meeting had officially gone from strange to freaking surreal. It had been almost a month since she had come across someone who hadn't tried to kill her or steal all her shit...which is why she couldn't help but give the girl a wary glance.

"This is NOT how I expected this to go...honestly, I kinda feel you're breaking some sort of unspoken zombie apocalypse etiquette by not trying to stab me" She mumbled bluntly before a small chuckle escaped from her lips and she gave the girl a small smirk "Thank you for not stabbing me".

She carefully grabbed the lighter and flicked the spark wheel, the soft glow of the fire illuminated their faces for a second before she turned it off "I officially like you girl, but I'm REALLY concerned of how trusting you are. You're gonna get yourself killed" She stated mater-of-factly before she extended her hand, deciding that the least she could do was to be a bit nice. "Name's Cassandra, but you can call me Cece I guess".

@xEmoBunnehx

Verac looked at Doyle, "I'm quite familiar with Dwarnism, I'm a biologist remember? I have a degree in it, secondly I'm more than happy to share my food, but I literally only have a potato that im saving for planting later on, and some boullion cubes. None of these things are good enough for restoring her to a healthy condition. You make it sound like me and Varrick have been living here for a long time, we've only been here for a few days, if we had settled down then my potato wouldve been planted by now. Unless you have some meat and plenty of water to restore her, lord knows finding fresh meat is hard to come by these days." Varrick only rolled his eyes, "Were wasting time here Verac," he looked to Doyle, "Law and justice must always be served, without it were nothing more than savages." He unconsciously brought his hand up to dad's old sherriffs badge, the very same badge that he wore back when he was alive.

Sam chuckled soundlessly. "Trust me. If I knew someone was going to harm me, they'd of got the drop on me when my back was turned in the ally." She mouthed and shrugged as if it were no big deal. "But hey, it's always nice to find someone who won't kill you in this life." She mouthed and once more chuckled. Sam had decided she liked this girl, the way she was and how she acted. It was a lot like her younger self. Before the zombies. It was nice having someone who was like you to travel with, if the girl wanted to travel with her. "Oh. I'm Sam by the way." She mouthed once more and shook Cece's hand

Cam backed away from the area of conversation and became a bit more

aware of his surroundings than before. Respective homes.. he took those words in and examined the entrance to the apartment complex's driveway. It was a simple black asphalt pull in with elevated white brick on either side of it. He pushed past the men blocking the door and continued to look at the area surrounding the apartments. There was a tiny brick wall surrounding each side of the complex, with only one entrance, which was open ended. Each side of the wall was small enough in height that the average person could step over it no problem, but here's the thing: On the outside of the small wall was dirt. Dirt was soft, dirt was easily dug up, dirt, could be an advantage. He rolled his mind back a bit. Suddenly, a grin spread across his face and he slowly started to laugh. He had an idea, an idea that would require a lot of wood, a lot of work, and patience.

Varrick only cocked his head when he saw Cam laugh, "well thats not weird at all ay Verac...." Varrick turned over to see that Verac was already in the apartment taking a seat on a chair. "Really??"

Verac turned and looked at Varrick, "Ive been waiting all day to relax, we cleared out this apartment and locked all the undead bodies in apartment 14, now is the time to relax." Verac sat down and laid his head back for a bit and sighed with content. "Doctor is on break right now, please come see me afterwards," Verac smiled behind his doctos mask because the chair he was on was pretty comfy. "This would make a great office chair I tell ya."
