Realistic or Modern We'll Get Through This Together

Cassie had hung out with Nico for a while on the balcony. Through the whole time she just kept any conversation just casual and did not bring up the incident with Aspen once. By the time she went back inside, she was happy with her decision to go out there in the first place. Cassie had read her book for a while, and finished it and thought about Issac's book she had taken, and figured she'd better return it. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to just... Read it once quickly. Cassie bit her lip and grabbed his book from where she put it before and put it in her bag secretively. Later she began to feel bad, and almost like a thief, but tried to dismiss the thought. It hovered in her mind, however, and she started to make dinner to get her mind off it.

Xavier woke up when a cold wind ruffled his clothes, the hair on his arms standing up with goosebumps. Blinking sluggishly and wiping the grit from his eyes, Xavier sat up and looked around. He was still on the air conditioner, having slept the day away. After a quick check of his arms and face, he sighed in relief when he wasn't sunburned. It rarely happened to him, his skin staying a stubborn pale colour all year round, but when he burned it was bad. Like, lay down in a hole and die bad. ...Ok, maybe he was exaggerating just a little bit, but still. Gracefully jumping down from the machine, Xavier smiled and laughed lightly as the wind tugged at his shirt. He may not be very social during the day, but the night was definitely his domain. Putting on an easy smile, Xavier walked over and stood on the edge of the building, hands in his pockets and showing no reaction to being way off the ground.

By the time he finished, Aspen was completly exhausted. And his hands hurt. He hadn't played that much in years. But it was nice to be able to do something he loved, and the whole freedom thing made everything seem even brighter. He'd also made pretty decent money, at least enough to buy the thing that he was planning.

"You were gonna buy something right?" The young guy asked. Aspen had learned his name was Jake, and they'd become fast friends. Aspen nodded and walked over to the small display he'd noticed earlier. He picked up a necklace, a guitar pick with a music note engraved on it hanging on a simple black cord. He hoped maybe it could be a sort of peace offering for Nico. As Jake rang it up he asked, "Girlfriend?" Aspen hesitated before replying. "No, not exactly. It's a long story." Jake nodded, and when he was done, Aspen made his way back to the apartment, trying to figure out what he'd say to her.

Issac came back to the main room, feeling ready to apologize. He sat down across from Nikki, looking at her. "I'm sorry for bothering you earlier." He said sincerely. It was no secret that Issac sucked with apologies, or, anything else social really. But even in his overly judging eyes, he thought this one was ok. He just hope'd she'd think the same, and that maybe it'd help her feel better.

Looking up, Nicolette gave Isaac a genuine smile and said, "It's fine, I'm over it." She reached over and gave him a quick hug before going back to drawing her picture.

Cassie glanced over at Issac and Nico, wondering how she felt about being reminded of earlier, but also thought the apology was really considerate from Issac. She smiled from her reaction and continued to make food. Issac being around made Cassie think more about his book and she once again, easily felt bad, and bit her lip.

Aspen slowed down considerably as he neared the apartment. What if she hates me now? What if she doesn't like the necklace? And many other thoughts raced through his mind. His biggest worry however, was that they had decided to leave him, because Nico told them to, or for some other reason. He knew it was completely irrational, but still...

He prolonged the walk as long as possible, but all too soon found him self just outside of the main room. Voices could be heard, and he was relieved they were still there, but that worry was replaced with another more pressing one. Hesitant to enter, Aspen stood in the doorway, observing everyone else.

Cassie looked over and saw Aspen in the doorway then looked over at Nico and sighed softly. Please let this go well... She decided to try and be causal, "Hey Aspen. You've been out for a while. We got you a walky-talky. Thank Xavier for that." She smiled softly.

Hearing his name, Alex froze momentarily before going back to drawing. She took an unnoticeable deep breath and glanced up at Aspen before going back to drawing. Once I was finally done, I flipped to another page and started writing once more.

Aspen followed Cassie's glance and saw Nico over on her bed. His eyes widened and his breath caught, but he quickly composed himself and turned back to Cassie. "Sorry about that," he smiled apologetically. "That's pretty cool. Better than cell phones, even though they only work within a certain distance." He

was silent for a moment, thinking. "Oh yeah," he added brightly. "I got a job."

Issac smiled slightly. "Well, I'm glad you're feeling better," he said, getting up. He turned around, heading over to his sleeping spot, ready to curl up and read for a few hours, but realized he left his books back in his room. He inwardly groaned, before getting up and walking out of the room towards his hiding place.

Cassie smiled happily, "Really!? That's awesome!" She thought for a moment. Both Tommy and Aspen got jobs. They've got money coming in! This could work... Cassie smiled from the thought, and glanced at Issac again and at her bag with his book in it. She felt a little guilty again and sighed inwardly. She finished up with the supper and served them onto plates. "Grab whatever guys." Cassie really hoped she wouldn't have to play "susie homemaker" for every meal. She then quickly left the room momentarily and followed Issac, "Issac! I got something for you..." She hated that she would have to lose the book, but knew he probably wanted it back more than she wanted it.

Issac turned around, seeing Cassie. He blinked, a tad surprised. He looked down, seeing the book. "Oh. You had it?" He asked, confused. "But where'd you find it?" He thought for a moment, "Unless it was you who took it from my room. That's not appreciated, by the way. But still, if you wanted to read it you could've just asked," he suggested, smiling.

Aspen grabbed some food and headed to a corner to sit. He tried to eat, but had no appetite. His mind was consumed with other things. He kept glancing over at Nico, then reaching into his pocket to make sure the necklace was still there. He poked at his food a little more, only eating a few bites. Cassie had obviously worked hard making it, so he felt bad for not eating.

Cassie smiled softly, "Yeah... I'm sorry for taking it. It was actually because I was searching for you and I only found your book so I grabbed it." She thought more, "And I delayed giving it back because I would really like to read it. Are you sure it's alright?" She thought for a moment and smiled relieved she wasn't the only bookworm. "I got a book you could read. If you want that is." She looked at him.

Nicolette got up without a word and went over to fix her something to eat. Once she had, she went back and sat down, sitting the plate in front of her. She pulled her journal into her lap and started eating at she wrote her song.

"Oh! That's alright then. And it's perfectly fine if you read it. It's a classic. The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. You just can't see the cover because I found it this way," pointing to the strangely black cover. "And if you need any other books I..... acquired a whole stack of them. But what book do you have that I could read?" he asked, grinning.

Cassie smiled, enjoying the rather casual conversation, that she found herself fitting into quite well, "It's called Maze Runner by James Dashner. I don't know if you've read it before, or if you'll even like it but... It's one of my favorites. It's a series though, and I couldn't grab the other books before we left..." She shrugged softly and wished she could've found them in the limited time they had at the orphanage, but there were more important things to be done. She looked at Issac's book interested. She never read the book before, but she heard of it and knew it was going to be good.

Issac smiled aswell. He also found himself enjoying having a casual conversation with someone, especially her. "I've heard of that series," he said, "But if you're alright with it, I'd like to read Maze Runner, I guess I could find the other books in the series later." He looked forward to reading Maze Runner, as he heard it was a really good book. "Well I guess that makes two of us. In the panic, I only grabbed this book and ran," he said, gesturing to The Hobbit.

Cassie grinned and nodded, "Exactly how I felt when escaping. And I would gladly lend Maze Runner out to you!" She thought for a moment, "And if you like the series, having the other books would be awesome..!" Cassie didn't want him to have to go out of his way to get the books for her, but if he liked the series too, then she wasn't nearly as worried about it. "So, this was a nice talk Issac. Thanks for letting me read this." She gestured to The Hobbit. "And I will get my book for you really quick too..." With that she headed to the "main room," grabbed Maze Runner and quickly went back to Issac's room and handed him the book, "Here you go."

"Guys, remember when I got lost, and there was a crowd that suddenly blocked our way? I think that was our orphanage," she gulped, "looking for us."

Tommy looked at Kira, and scratches his head. "What do you mean? What do you remember from the crowd?" He sighed and sat on his makeshift bed. "Why can't they just leave us alone, we were just a drain on them anyways."

Aspen watched Nicolette get up, then go back and start writing. He sighed softly, then stood. Reaching into his pocket, he grabbed the necklace and clutched it tightly in his hand as he walked across the room. The walk felt like an eternity, but eventually he was standing in front of Nico.

"Nicolette?" he asked softly. "I'm really sorry. I freaked out, so I ran away, but I know that it hurt you and I shouldn't have done it and... Here." He held out the necklace, not meeting her eyes.

"Thank you!" he said, smiling, "I could get you the other books to, if you haven't read them yet," he offered, a slightly mischievous look on his face as she left. "No problem," he said, when she returned, shrugging slightly, "I've reread it like 50 times anyways. And I got this to read now!" He said excitedly, gesturing to the Maze Runner, which he held in his hands. "And I agree," he continued, "this was a nice talk. Maybe we should talk like this more often?"
