Realistic or Modern We'll Get Through This Together

Issac stopped for a moment, thinking Cassie's words over in his head. Waiting a while for school or whatever would be a good idea, the search would've probably died by then. But still, could Tommy and Aspen alone provide for all of them? Maybe, maybe not, but it'd have to be good enough for now. And for now, it seemed Cassie's plan was best. "I agree." Issac stated, looking up at Cassie.

Cassie was startled by the others easy agreement and blinked satisfied and smiled softy, "Okay. That settles that. For now." She thought for a moment and looked at Tommy and Aspen, then at the others. "We're going to have to get out of here soon, so no one should expect to get a steady job, however, still try to look into some ways to get money." Cassie felt like a hypocrite for saying that. She never got a job before, she never had the chance at the orphanage, so this was new to her, and she didn't know where to start. She learned plenty about getting jobs and managing money at the orphanage, but these things were easier said than done. She pushed the thought out of her mind for the moment, telling herself she'd figure something out later. "Also, whenever you guys go out, bring your walky-talky. No matter where you go, have that with you in case there is an emergency."

Xavier thought for a moment then nodded. "Yeah, laying low for a while is probably best." He said and stood up to put his plate away. Coming back he sat down a little closer to the rest of the group. "I could help with the money situation," he offered after a moment, then quickly added, "I could get a job I mean. Not like stealing again or any of that." He looked around at the others, remembering articals and such he'd read in newspapers about how much money was needed to support a certain number of people. "Um, how many of us are there?"

Aspen looked at Xavier curiously, but didn't question it. "Ten if we're all here." He decided that Xavier was probably too lazy to count, he knew he'd done that before. It was easier to ask anyway. "Why?"

Cassie looked at Xavier, "There's ten of us... However, nobodies seen Ava once today so... Nine I guess..." Cassie wondered where Ava could be and hoped that maybe she'd show up sometime. A nagging part of her, said she probably wouldn't but Cassie tried to keep some hope. Please don't let her have gotten caught, wherever she might be...

Xavier looked over at Aspen, but was still half lost in thought. "It's nothing. I was just trying to remember something I read before. It was about how much the price of living was for a family, but I couldn't really get any of it. Had too many things I didn't understand," he said, surprisingly not lying. The words and vocabulary he had understood, but the numbers is where it got him lost. "It would be cheaper for us though," he continued, thinking and starting to stare off into space. "All cities have abandoned buildings like this, so we'd just have to find one if we moved. Renovating a few rooms to fit out needs wouldn't be that expensive I don't think, and would defiantly be cheaper than buying a place or renting."

Tommy looked around, "We should fix this one up ... Maybe look for a les run down apartment, but this is a good building to be in. " He looked at Cassie for a moment, stood up, then walked out of the main room and into the kitchen. He grabbed one of the waters they had gotten earlier that day and looked out of a broken window.

Cassie nodded in agreement with Xavier, "Yeah, you're right. We can definitely work with that." She glanced over at Tommy when he said that, and thought for a moment. They could fix this apartment up, but would it be worth it? There was no way they could stay this close to the orphanage. They had to get out of here as soon as possible.

Tommy walked back into the main room and looked around before sitting down. "So.." He wasn't sure what they should discuss now. They resolved the school issue. "How bout them Cowboys ?"

"Cowboys?" Vinaya asked as she walked through the door. She slipped her backpack off her shoulders, where she'd stashed only the walkie talkie for the day (her clothing was folded neatly under her bed). After her conversation over breakfast, she'd felt the need to get out, do something, be active. And so she had. If she'd been wearing more suitable clothing she would've loved to go for a quick run, but she hadn't felt like changing, so perhaps tomorrow; besides, she still hadn't found anywhere decent to shower, so perhaps running wasn't the best idea. As Vinaya sat cross-legged on the bed, she finally noticed the somewhat somber mood hanging over the room and realized that the question about the Cowboys, whatever that was, perhaps hadn't been quite so... innocent, after all. She'd find out what she missed later.

Issac sighed at the Tommy's question, and opened up the Maze Runner. He began reading, sitting there, his back leaning on the wall. He flipped the page, seeing Vinaya come in out of the corner of his eye. He read some more, but his mind began to wander, before coming to the subject of Cassie. He wondered what she'd think of the book, she had seemed pretty eager to read it. He glanced over at her talking with Xavier and Tommy. He realized that he never really noticed how beautiful she was. He shook his head, clearing the thought from his mind, and going back to the story.

He looked over at Vinaya, "The NFL Team, the Dallas Cowboys." He smiled a little, "They use to have a Quarterback named Vinny Testaverde, he was okay." he shrugged a little, "I think Im from Dallas, back at the orphanage I had one of those little, uh, snowglobes. It was a Cowboys one, so they're my favorite team... But uh, none of you really watch football huh?" He looked down, "I was trying to get some conversation going." He smiled at her a little, then looked back down.

Cassie grinned from Tommy lightening the mood, and when she noticed Issac open up Maze Runner she grinned even more. She wondered what he would think about it. Cassie glanced back at Tommy and smiled as he explained. "Oh, texas! Suh-weet!" She had to make the comment. She couldn't help herself, and blushed softly when she did but tried to just act natural afterwards. "I haven't watched football, but I'm interested in learning about it." She replied to Tommy.

Xavier looked up at Tommy and laughed a little. "I've been to Texas, cool place. How can you possibly like the Cowboys though? Saints are the best!" He said with a goofy smile, not really caring which team was better -though of course anyone with sense would say the Saints- but it was fun to have a conversation that didn't have to deal with how they were going to get by the next day.

"American football?" she asked to clarify. "I've never paid any thought to sports," she said. "I played games when I was little, but they didn't have very serious rules." The games she was referring to had been back in India, on dusty fields with the hot sun blazing. These were bittersweet memories, some of the last good ones she had of India. After a moment, she smirked. "You like Texas, Cassie?" It struck Vinaya how little she'd bothered to learn about these people, since she'd never envisioned ever needing to. Or wanting to. "What makes one team better than the other?" she asked Tommy and Xavier.

He smiled a little toward Cassie, "Its not football season right now, but Im sure we can find some old clips or something. If not, when it starts up again we can cheer for the Cowboys together." He smiled a little to her, then looked over at Xavier, "Or you can cheer for Drew Brees, cause thats the only Saint who matters." He laughed a little.

"This is going a lot better than I thought it would. This is nice."

Tommy spread out the sleeping bag out and laid down facing the group, "Today was an alright day." He looked at Cassie and smiled a little.

Cassie grinned from the conversation and nodded in agreement towards Tommy's comment. "Sounds good to me!" She laughed. She looked at Vinaya and smiled, "I've never been to Texas but I've read about it there, and it sounds nice!" She thought for a moment dreamily, "I'd like to go there someday. In fact, it'd be fun to travel the world..." She shook her head and thought realistically, "Like that'll ever happen though." She grinned again, "And why are some guys so passionate about a specific team?" She laughed softly.

Issac looked up from his book, listening in on the conversation. Sports. He inwardly groaned. He neither watched nor cared about American football. The only sport he was even remotely interested in was football, or as Americans called it, soccer. He remembered when he was younger in the orphanage, playing soccer all by himself, dribbling the ball around the orphanage's "Back yard", which was probably an abandoned parking lot or something, kicking the ball under the old rusty monkey bars, pretending it was a goal. He wondered to himself why he stopped.

He stopped the mini flashback, and looked up, listening in on the conversation again. He heard Cassie ask her question, and realized he had absolutely no idea. He couldn't remember which soccer team he used to root for, maybe it was Germany? Yeah, it was probably Germany. He couldn't remember exactly why he liked Germany, and didn't really care to remember. Issac was about to say something, but then realized it might be rude if he barged into their conversation. Besides, he knew practically nothing about American football anyways.

Over the past several hours, Adam just wondered. Would he be able to wait out the cops for the next two years? What could go wrong? He was so anti-social. Would he leave? Stick around? Even though he helped around, he didn't feel close to anyone. Despite everyone there, he felt incredibly lonely beneath his cold anti-social behavior. He had no where to go. Getting a License was just like putting his face out in the open and would only make it easier for him to be found. Everything just felt...impossible.

"I dunno... I like the Cowboys because its one of the last ties I have with my parents...If they had been a Saints fan." He nodded to Xavier, "Maybe Id like the Saints." He smiled a little. "I like detroit a tiny bit too, but if I had to cheer for one team, it'd be Dallas." He scratched his head. "Soon I'll be turning you into a Cowboys fan." He smiled. "And dont say you'll never travel the world. Maybe you'll make some super rich guy fall for you, he'll take you around the world and back again."

Vinaya found herself smiling softly at Cassie. "I would like to visit all the big American cities one day. And, truthfully, I would love to return to India." A good part of her was nervous at the prospect, if she were honest, but a bigger part wanted to face and ultimately overcome that anxiety. "Don't get discouraged so easily. Things can and will change - a lot." She stole a glance at Tommy. "Or perhaps you'll become rich enough yourself to travel the world without anyone's help. Perhaps all of us will, and we could travel the world together." Vinaya realized that what she was saying was far more quixotic than realistic, but she was ambitious and she had faith that it was possible, even if everything else seemed impossible at the moment. "And Tommy," now she smiled at him, "I don't blame you. If I had any connection to my parents, I think I might've felt the same way."

Cassie had smiled softly when he said it was the last ties he had with his parents and nodded more understanding. She grinned when he said he'd turn her into a fan, and although she wasn't so sure if it was possible to get her passionate over a sports team, she liked the gesture. Cassie laughed from Tommy's last words and blushed softly, "No.. No, that won't happen, never had a guy fall for me so..." She laughed nervously and looked away then at Vanaya, welcoming her words gladly, "And you're right, it is definitely possible." She thought for a moment, "If I ever got rich and got a chance to go around the world, I would gladly take you all with me!" She smiled.

"Ha, never had a guy fall for her." He smiled at Cassie looked at her and then looked toward the ceiling, "It'd be fun to travel the world.. Id want to go to Germany, there is so much history there, its insane. You'd have to take me there if you became super rich." Tommy winked to Cassie and put his hands beneath his head and relaxed. "Itd be fun to go there... To go anywhere other than this city."

She laughed from Tommy's wink, "I will." Then Cassie smiled and nodded, thinking. "I don't think I've ever been out of this city since I was six..." She sighed and not for the first time, felt cooped up. Trapped. This was a surprising feeling considering they actually escaped the orphanage, but now it was an even bigger thing. To be able to escape this city and go wherever they pleased... That would be so wonderful." Cassie glanced over at Adam who had been quiet for far too long. She didn't know if he'd answer, but she thought she'd at least try. "What about you Adam? Is there any specific place you'd like to go?"

Never had a guy fall for her. Issac inwardly chuckled. "If I could go any place in the world," Issac said, "I'd probably say everywhere." Unlike several of the others, Issac's family and him lived in this city, never went anywhere else. "And I wouldn't even need to be rich to see the world. I'd just walk there, because as they say, it's the journey that matters, not the destination." He smiled slightly. "And thanks Cassie four your offer to take us all with you. But the question is, how would you become rich?"
