Fantasy Vampire Corps of Eldergaard (Ooc)

Main
Here
Leo wants to draw attention away from his fight with Henryk as fast as possible so dropping the big bomb shell seemed to be the best way to do it. Also he wants to get back at Gigi for bringing it up back on the nighthawk and putting him on the spot, thank you very much.

Leo does feel very bad for giving Alyx like seven heart attacks in one day but TO BE FAIR it was not ENTIRELY his fault. This time.

Well if Leo thinks she’s just going to let him sit there with blood pouring out of every orifice, he is DEAD WRONG

After dinner is done she’s probably going to go find somewhere to just scream into the abyss

Also I need to know the heights of all the characters for Important Reasons*

*the important reason is that I want to know

Why is Cyn so smol 😭😭 when Rose is so tol

Astrid is 5'10" and Alyx is 5'3"

And since I'm dragging Maksim in here in a bit, he's 5'9"

Cyn and Camellia both inherited the Large gene and Cyn... did not lol. I haven’t decided entirely on their real backstory yet. They might not share the same father.

Rose towers over EVERYONE

Back when Alyx was eyeing Rose like she was going to murder him, I was cackling to myself, because I was like, "I bet she barely comes up to his chest" and yup

How did he fit in that teeny tiny ship 😆

I'm just laughing at the idea that Gigi might want Leo back. I can just imagine her making a face and being like 'no thanks, you can keep him'.

I cannot believe you would accuse Gigi of being the more destructive of the two

Also in her defense- Gigi is not intentionally being cagey about her research. It’s like.... 10% not thinking that anyone at the table would understand if she was more detailed and 90% me not wanting to come up with said details :-_-lines:

Bahahaha, I feel that

But Astrid is more her father as much as try she wants to be her mother, hahaha. She wants to KNOW

Cyn would look between Leo and Gigi and think very, very carefully on the topic before announcing 'they're about the same' in terms of destructive ability.

Also Rose does NOT think Gigi is unnecessarily cruel. But he just does not know her well enough to know if she would use information like that to throw him off his game, so he decided to take it out of the equation entirely.

also can you explain more about the 'proper' turning vs improper and more about what it would mean for Fredrick?

im not sure if I want him to be himself or mindwiped or maybe maskim switches him back and forth idk yet

Rose is, in fact, also quite weak to alcohol he is just aided by the fact of being huge so it takes slightly more to get him tipsy lol.

The "proper" way to turn a human is by consensual equal exchanging of blood. The vampire takes what they need to get through the draining process that is turning a human, and then they open a vein in their own necks and the human drinks approximately the same amount that the vampire took. The turning process isn't exactly fun and can be dangerous, so the best way to make sure it goes well is for the vampire to stay with their fledgling for the 8ish or so hours it takes. If the human takes enough blood, they might be able to just sleep through the process, but the sire has to stay awake to make sure nothing goes awry. The sire can use bursts of pure magic to ease any mishaps or if the fledgling is severely struggling with the turning. Therefore the new vampires come through with their mental faculties intact and don't go insane waking up starving. (How that looked for Leo is of course up to you, Miko! My little headcannon is that this is when Alyx first discovered Leo was cuddly and was like, "Oh great")

But doing it the "proper" way forges the sire-fledgling bond which can result in feeling like the sire is sending their younger siblings into battle to die. And they've retained all their memories and their will, which can cause problems when they are taken into battle against their former countrymen.

Many of the commanders have opted not to do that, as it complicates things exponentially.

So they do it the "improper" way. This often starts out non-consensual, but not always. The vampire takes enough blood to send the human into hypovolemic shock, then they give the human a small amount of their blood--often from their wrist, and there's debate amongst the clans as to whether it has to be from the neck or if that's just symbolic of trust. Then the sires ditch and let the humans go through the turning alone (this is the most important part--to let them go through it alone). Some humans die during this time, but none of them make it through without something going wrong. It could be as little as lacking the sire-fledgling bond or as huge as losing their sanity, depends on the person.

If they do make it through with their will and personality, they often get that beat or gaslit out out of them.

Regardless of how it's done, the fledglings will have their eyes changed to the color of their sire's (Maksim's clan has amber eyes, Alyx's are black), and will have all my typical vampire stuff. If it's done properly, the fledglings will be able to use some of their sire's brand of magic--how much depends on your own plans for your vampire. It will of course take some training.

Alyx and Maksim of course operate in different ways. Partly because Alyx is stubborn as all get out and Maksim is a little more flexible, but also because Maksim is a commander under an admiral--not a captain. That means he has to maintain a squadron of 20 while Alyx has to maintain a squadron of only 10. Every time they lose a vampire, the commanders have to turn a new human to take their place. This can become exhausting depending on the captain's or admiral's approach to how they use their vampires and is another reason many of the commanders have decided to turn fledglings improperly. (And before you hate on Maksim, I will defend him by saying Alyx lucked out with Astrid. ;)) If she lost some vampires, Alyx gives the Allarians that surrender/are captured a choice: they can become part of her squadron or they can die as Eldergaard doesn't take prisoners. Those that don't join her squadron usually become food for her vampires. (It's not actually nice, she just feels better about it). Plus, it means that the turning is consensual, and regardless of how she does it, a non-consensual turning will result in something going wrong, so. Maksim, however, will often just choose the strongest to replace dead vampires because they have the best chance of surviving the longest. Despite his arguments with Alyx, it does weigh on him considerably, but he's more concerned about his clan back home. And I'll get more into why he is the way he is, but *Alyx's Aunt Jahna voice* he didn't have the best home life.

(I know I said I was trying not to give them terrible families but I FAILED OKAY)

But Maksim does want to free the vampires from what the Eldergaardians are doing--he's just going about it in a very different way from Alyx. He's also a prick, but he's not actually evil. So we can either say he had literally no idea Fredrick was a prince and realized later once he saw Georgiana, or that he saw an opportunity and offered to hide Fredrick in his squadron in exchange for his help freeing the vampires. If you wanted Fredrick to have been mindwiped for ~drama~ reasons, I say it would be the first option with a non-consensual turning. If you want him to be himself, I would say the second option would be best with a consensual turning. If, however, you wanted to have Maksim snap him in and snap him out like the Court Jester, (due to either Fredrick being unwilling to fight his people and Maksim being able keep him out of battle only so long before someone notices but Maksim wanting to keep him mentally capable to help later, or because Maksim just didn't want to deal with him [honestly less likely if Fredrick is nice at all, Maksim would latch onto any sort of understanding/sympathy]) that would take some magic (and would probably be a consensual turning). Maksim's family does technically have some minor mind-control ability--basically, they can influence people's intentions, thereby changing their actions. I was planning on Maksim not being very good at it at all, but he could have started it out of desperation during the war if you're thinking that would be the most fun (Alyx would also be horrified because that was One Good Thing about him). He could influence Fredrick to follow orders like a mindless drone, but it would probably take a decent amount of effort unless Fredrick is weak minded/willed, which I doubt.

But! It's up to you, Jones! I'm pretty open to however you want it to look!

I warned you both.

Regardless, Maksim is going to Very Proudly show off his fledgling to the others once he arrives. I was thinking they could have some talks in the morning (there is some info I want to reveal to Alyx, ehehehe), then they can be chilling at lunch or whatever, and then Maksim can leave Fredrick in the hall and come waltzing in like he owns the place to demand answers of his least favorite commander BECAUSE WHOSE SIDE IS SHE ON

And then show off Fredrick in the hopes that Gigi will change her mind about the alliance. It is not his best plan, but it's the best one he's got and he is Desperate because Gigi is messing up his plans!
