"A sandbox game." Max thinks over how to best describe it to her. "A sandbox game is where one has free reign to build a world. There are multiple variations, but one of the most common variations is survival. A player is thrust with nothing but the clothes on their back, sometimes less, into a new world. From there they must gather materials, build shelter, survive, fight, and become great." Max thinks about the world around him. "Things seem to be, at their base, blocks. Even those that don't look like blocks become one when cut down to their core. I would wager we are in a simple grid based sandbox survival game. Now my experience with monster spawns is light tends to stop that, so we're good in here. We also likely have more durability to things like fall, but most survival games do have fall damage. I'd guess anywhere between 3-7 blocks is where the fall damage occurs." He then looks at the world around him, imagining everything to be blocks. "That would explain a lot. I-" He then looks at Emmy. "Oh, I'm sorry, am I going to fast?"

Max smiles and nods. "Good." Max thinks about what to do as the firelight dances across their faces in a haunting, yet beautiful piece. He chuckles as he thinks about something. "How ironic, that two people who live without affection and without others, are then forced to be as close as two people can get?"

Emmy gave a small laugh. "I didn't think of that." Then, a possibility hit her. "...what if...what if we don't find anyone else? What if we're forced to live in this freaky world alone for the rest of our lives?" She said, now staring directly at the torch.

"I've entertained the notion." He looks up from the ground to see Emmy looking at the torch, noticing the way the fire dances on her face. Fire patterns were always so interesting. There was another feeling rising up within him, dread? "If we can't leave, and we don't find anyone else... Than I suppose that'll be our lot in life." He looks her in her eyes and gives a light smile. "Hey, at least we'll have each other, right? One real life friend is more than I could say before."

Max stared at the firelight on her face as the feeling of dread grew stronger before looking back down to the fire, being calmed by it's light. "Hey, at least I no longer have to base my survival on constant victory. Games are beautiful, but let me tell you that losing a tournament means no lunch. That isn't fun."

Max chuckles. "Wow, this is the first time anyone's asked me about one of my characters, other than gamers asking about stats. Let's see... Oh, I know. There's this one game where everyone has superpowers, and you can be a hero or villain. I mostly played it casually, but there is the competitive challenge here or there. His name was Felix Shane, an umbrakinetic. I made him young. See, people always make their characters the same age as they are. If you make a young character, people will underestimate you. Created a little guild of heroes there. He ended up dating another player's character, Sphinx was her name. We had fun with that."

Emmy gave a small smile. "What happened in this game?" She asked. This was the longest she went without reading, and she was desperate for a story.
Keri kept quiet half afraid and half confused, she didn't really hear Anjali speak to her since she was still stuck in a state of shock but maybe it was just part of the video game, she could never do that in real life -I'll just try it again..- her arms swung back up into the air again smashing the large solid wood causing the whole tree to turn into several smaller cubes, she shook her head and threw the ax onto the ground spotting some small dents on it "o-oh.." Her hands scooped up the cubes nervously not wanting to cause damage to them "I'll be right back, have these by the way" Keri plopped the cubes beside anjali quickly turning to find another tree.
Anjali blinked, as Keri turned away, probably looking for another tree. She picked up the cubes, and continued building. So far, she had the back wall and sides of the small house like structure built. curiosity got the bes tof her, and she wandered away from the uncompleted shelter back to the chest. She opened it, and looked in. She started pulling on the stack of wood cubes in her hand, and to her amasement, they split apart, becoming planks. She dropepd them quickly, thinking she had done something she probably shouldn't have. After a few minutes, she picked them back up again, and looked at the sticks in the chest. She pulled and pushed at the planks in her hand, until they became a table, with a few cubes left over. She set the table on the ground, and it did indeed become a table, with 9 slots on it. She pulled the sticks from the chest, and looked at them and the plank cubes she had left. She put a couple sticks and a plank cube on the table, and watched. The items combined, much to her amazement. She picked up what looked to be a shovel, or a spade. "Hey Keri..." She called, to her companion. "Come look at this." She finished, and motioned the other girl over.

Max thought for a moment on the story. He had played so many games he had lost track. But eventually he recalled it. "Well, we created our own little story. A role-play of sorts. It started with a fight between me and another user, a player by the name of Zabuzas Child. We fought, and both decided to be overdramatic, as the battle was very difficult. I was with another player, InterestedOak I believe. We all got melodramatic and formed a story. Felix was a tortured child who lost his family and friends to his powers, and roamed the streets looking for any shot at redemption. Jacob, Interested's character, was hailed as a hero by the city, unlike Felix. Everyone loved him, and he wanted to rid crime from the world. And Zabuza, Zabuzas Child's character, wanted Supers to rule the world. He was the first villain. We had a lot of fun, but unfortunately I lost the battle. I almost killed Zabuza too. I created another character named Shadow that looked exactly like Felix, but a bit darker. I had some fun and made him an evil clone. He teamed with Zabuza. When I logged back in as Felix, I respawned right next to Zabuza. We said that Zabuza 'brought him back to life, and...'" Max begins to retell the entire story of the role-play to Emmy, from how he posted on the game forum for anyone interested in screwing around, to meeting Unneeded, the creator of the character that would become his future character's wife, to the end of the first Great War, and even to the second.

"I never did finish that game. I have no one in real life to miss me, but they were true friends. I wonder if they'll miss me..."

Emmy gave a slow nod. "We should write a book about it." She said, her mouth curling into a smile. "This world may not have any literature yet."

"We'd have to write our own ending." Max grins and thinks for a moment. "I say Zabuza and Psych die, Nico becomes a hero, Felix and Sphinx remain happily married, and happily ever after. Felix deserves a happy ending after all that." He looks at Emmy and once again feels that slow feeling of dread creeping in. Nonetheless, he smiles at her warmly. Something he hasn't done in a long time. "I hope we get a happy ending." Max finds himself unable to keep concern for themselves from arising in his voice. "What would your ideal happy ending be?"

Kateri woke in a tree. "Ugh..." She grabbed at her phone to check the time, only to discover it wasn't there. "Don't tell me i left my phone at that party last night..." Kateri groaned drowsily. She rolled over to go back to sleep, only to fall out of the tree and only the grass. "OW!" She screamed. That's when she realised that she wasn't sleeping in her usual "It's too frickin warm in my bedroom" tree. She was in a forest.

A big one.

Emmy gave a small chuckle. "It's a bunch of fictional shit. It'll never happen. I honestly don't think you woul be interested in it." She said.

Winter woke up in the ground to the sound of someone falling from a tree. He went over to the girl, who seemed to be a neko like him and and inspected her to see if she was alright. When it seemed she was, he got up and looked around to see he wasn't home, but in a weird forest...and not the one he was used to. Also, it was nighttime, so he didn't know what was out here. He needed to find a weapon? Or make one to keep him safe. He looked back at the girl and offered a hand to help her up.

"We're in a video game world. We are literally in the plane of fiction. Believe me, it's cool," Max says further taking in the fire dancing across her face. Always so hypnotic.

"Who are you, exactly?" Kateri asked warily. While it was extremely likely this guy wasn't dangerous, seeing he had no weapon, she had always tried to keep her distance from strangers. Kateri got up on her own, and brushed dirt and grass off her shirt."And, one more thing, where are we?"

"Well....it's kind of stupid and morbid, but my happy ending is a death....a beautiful, dramatic, sacrificial death. Like the ones in the books. The ones where the hero sacrifices his or her life to save a loved one, or for the greater good." She said smiling as she sat there imagining it.

Winter sighed that she wouldn't let him help her up. He shrugged when she asked where they were, looking around more. He noticed a mountain,

Not too far away. He pointed to it, then looked at the girl, signaling her to follow.

Max felt his chest hurt as she said that. Fu**ing heartburn. "Careful, you may just get what you wish for. Though I guess if you're going to go out, that's the way to do it. Those types of deaths in games are real tearjerkers. Bittersweet is the key word. Myself, my happy ending is... I don't even know, actually..." Max then thought of something. "Those types of deaths are real tearjerkers in games." "Games..."

Oh F**k.

Emmy sat a few seconds, waiting for him to complete his sentence. When he didn't, she got a concerned look on her face. "Something wrong?" She asked.

Max was roused from his thoughts and gave her a small smile. "Yeah, yeah, no, no, it's cool." I can't go telling her not to get herself killed. If that's what she wants to do...

I don't want her to die.
"I wonder what my happy ending is. Maybe... I think my happy ending is being able to be the father to a child that I didn't get to have myself. Of course that ending's a long ways off. With my lack of social skills, that won't be happening. I just want to be able to make sure that a kid knows how blessed they are with even the granted things in life. I want to discover myself what a father should be like." He thinks for a few moments before chuckling and looking at Emmy again. "Sorry, that sounds really stupid."

Kateri, though still unsure of the stranger, followed him. At least he was kind enough to actually acknowledge her.
