Fantasy They're Here (IC)

Danaper continues to run with the group, getting faster and only starting to get tired just now. "Call me a crazy bastard again and I'll impale your skull to a tree while the monsters devour you. But fine, stop arguing or we will all die, get to the river, and watch out for bodies I threw in there."

Danaper keeps shooting at monsters that get to close, and realizes he is running out of ammo. "Shit, I need more ammunition, we can worry about that after the river though." Danaper detaches his bayonet and uses it as a sword in case monsters get to close, then he puts his rifle on his back realizing he should just go melee to save the little ammo he has left.

Jun really did not like Danaper in the slightest. "Could you shut your trap for a second? Your constant yelling is what is keeping them on our trail," he growled, tempted to threaten the guy with his spear. No, he'd settle that later, right now he needed to get clear of the monsters.

Peter nodded in agreement to the plan. It was the best they could do, they had a bigger chance of surviving hypothermia then the creatures behind them. So, he started heading toward the river, not as fast this time so he could help the rest of the group fight off a few of the creatures. He used his knife, stabbing anything that came close.

Danaper kept speeding up towards the river, running faster than before, he jumped into the river and swam in the freezing water.

(Sorry for the short post, im busy)

Raine went silent after she was threatened. That man, no, that savage had no brain and was all brawn. If they didn’t come up with a proper plan he would’ve headed straight for his death. And he had the audacity to threaten her? Raine could feel her blood boiling, but stayed silent, knowing that nothing good will come if she retaliated now. The others seemed to be annoyed with him too. Were they not a group before this? Raine stole a glance at the large horde of those freaks behind them. What caused all of this? Matter of fact, who caused all the ruckus to draw the tension of this many creatures? That didn’t matter. Not now. They needed to escape.

Raine bursted through overgrown bushes, ignoring the stinging and burning sensations of the twigs and brush scraping against her legs. The sound of the water flowing up ahead grew louder and louder until finally the river was right in front of them. A cool winter breeze brushed against her large coat. She knew that water was freezing and once they crossed the river that same breeze will nearly freeze them to death.

The sound of several leaves and twigs snapping behind her and inhumanly growls thundering from behind gave her enough motivation to jump into the freezing cold river. Her body froze instantly out of shock. She couldn’t move. Couldn't swim. She opened her eyes letting the eye piercing cold water invade her eyeballs. Raine couldn’t tell which way was up and which way was down. She let out some air under the water, watching the bubbles float to the top and swam in that direction. Once she broke the surface she gasped for air and swam behind the cannibal, reaching the other side.

Her body trembled heavily as the wind brushed against her freezing wet skin and cloths. She kept running, slower than before, but in the least she kept moving. Her winter sweats and jackets was dripping water down into her drenched socks and shoes.

Her body was numb and tingly, “k-keep your eyes o-open. Lo-look for a place to take shelter!” She shouted out to the others, her voice shaking and jaw trembling. Raine silently prayed for a cabin or a cave, something that they could build a fire and warm up in. Anything.

In a blur Peter reached the river. The moment he stepped in he knew this was going to be hell. The water was so cold it felt like he was burning, and he had to force himself to go further into the water. Within a second he was swimming, unable to touch the ground. He felt like he was dying. The water was so cold that within a few seconds he was numb other than a dull constant ache of the freezing water burning at his skin. For a moment he thought he would die. The other side of the river seemed miles away, too far for him to possibly reach before being too cold to swim. But his foot touched ground and he scrambled up and out of the lake, white puffs of steam rising up off of his cloths. Then he was running again, staggering a bit and shivering violently. At least he was shivering, that meant if he had hypothermia it might not be severe just yet.

The forest seemed endless, nothing in sight. He couldn't go for much longer, the water soaking him was already starting to freeze and every step hurt. He didn't hear the creatures much anymore... Maybe they didn't go through the water. He searched for a safe place, a cabin of some sort, anything, but there was nothing. But then, as he was running there was an odd clicking noise, and the sound of rope breaking. In an instant he was hit backward by some sort of wood plank, the breath being knocked out of him.

He lay still on the ground for a moment, then once he came back to his senses he looked up and saw what had hit him. It was a giant wood log full of spikes, but the spikes were seperated and he had somehow managed to get hit in the middle of a gap between two spear-like spikes. He looked down at himself, half expecting to be impaled, but he was ok other then a bit of blood on his side from one of the spikes grazing him. At first he was confused. But then he realized. Traps were set up by people, the creatures don't make things like that, let alone make a trap that looked like it was set up for creatures to run into. looking around, he spotted a dim glow in the distance. A window. "There's a cabin over there!" Peter said to the group, hurting from being hit so hard. He attempted to get up, and succeeded after a few tries.

Danaper kept running with the group until peter was hit by the trap. When peter came back to his senses and had told him there was a cabin, he broke the trap and helped Peter out of it, then stating. "Guys I'm sorry about all this, I understand I'm a fucking madman, its what the apocalypse does to you. Also I thank you for not going along with my stupid plan of trying to fight them. I want to also apologize for probably starting this whole mess, but believe me I wouldn't have made it without you.

Danaper looked at each individual member of the party for a few seconds then stated. "I am sorry for threatening anyone who I threatened, now I suppose it's time to find shelter. Maybe, just maybe, I think we should stick together from now on, unlike a single monster we can survive mostly on our own, but with each other we can survive longer, maybe, just maybe, survive to see the end of this apocalypse." He began walking towards the cabin.

(when he says I wouldn't have made it without you, he means he wouldn't have survived without you, he doesn't mean he couldn't have made the mess without you)

When Jun came to the river, he quickly shed the pack and coat, tying the bright white clothing to the heavier backpack. After checking to make sure it was secure, jun took the pack by the handle at the top, spinning around for a moment then releasing his hold, sending the bag across the river and into the snow on the other side. Any weaker a toss and the bag would've landed right in the river.

Jun then dove into the freezing water, his breath hitching and almost taking in water. He took a moment to get used to the cold, pushing forward when he could finally move again. God damn, it was cold! When he reached the other side, Jun quickly put his coat back on, cringing at the wetness of his clothes under it. He was slower, but still moving, that's what mattered.

The next thing he knew, something large had struck Peter, something he couldn't identify until it was relatively still. He went to rush forward when his leg began to feel heavier. He would have to figure that out later, perhaps snow had gathered and frozen on his wet clothes. Either way, the sensor offered his arm to Peter to help him move faster.

Raine had been running alongside Peter when he was struck by a large piece of wood. She skidded into a halt, and ran to his side at the same time the others in the group did. A man helped Peter out of the way and Danaper cut the trap down to avoid them hitting it again.

“Everyone watch for ropes there may be other traps on the way to the cabin.” She huddled in close to the others and kept her eyes peeled on their surroundings.

Danaper, muttered out an apology for everyone as they got closer to the cabin. He wanted to group up with everyone. It was a hard thing to hear, mostly because Raine wasn’t sure if she wanted to join a group. Ever since her siblings were killed, she was always alone. They were her group and she couldn’t protect them. Besides none of them known each other very well. But on the brighter side, based on what they just went through, they all managed to prove themselves as reliable and skilled to survive. They worked together to get away from the creatures. If she were to group with anyone in the least, they make a pretty good team.

“Let’s worry about that when we make it to the cabin and warm up.” Raine responded to Danaper in a calm but shaky tone. Her teeth was chattering from the cold but it looks like they might make it out of this situation alive.

/sorry I wasn't here for a while, I was doing stuff IRL all weekend/

Mico ran at the back of the group, watching for any creatures getting too close. When they got to the cabin, Mico heard a noise from inside. "Did you guys hear that?" she asked, taking a step back. There was something in there, or someone.

Peter was grateful for all the help getting out of the trap "thank you.." he said quickly. He started moving toward the cabin, watching for other traps. Although he barely payed attention, he vaguely heard Danaper apologize and say they should stay as a group. He had more important things to think about, but the thought of grouping again gave him mixed feelings. As they arrived at the cabin there was a noise inside and he paused a moment before attempting to open the door. It was locked. He knocked on the door and there was a shuffle inside. Then the door opened. To peters surprise there was actually someone there, a very tall someone who looked like they just woke up and we're in a murderous mood.

"What do you want?" The man huffed.

Peter stood still for a moment before speaking. "We- need to warm up." He said. He had stopped shivering but that wasn't exactly a good thing, because he was completely numb from cold.

Danaper looks at the tall man, before sharpening his bayonet while they talked, then he remembered something, and walked up to the man with his rifle in hand and through his gas mask he said. "Also, is there any possibility you have ammunition for my marksman rifle?"

Danaper stopped sharpening his bayonet and attached it to his rifle before putting it on his back. He also thought that he shouldn't show off his human meat, since that would either be an automatic no help from the man or the man would just try and fight him, so he didn't offer human meat.

(Sorry its a bit short again, high school is very busy, but I'm not giving up on this roleplay just for that reason, I'll try and get a longer post in next post.)

Raine stayed silent as a tall man opened up the front door to the cabin. He had an intimidating appearance and his tone of voice was harsh and showed no hint of compassion towards the freezing group. She didn’t know what was going to happen next. The man gave off a murderous vibe, but that didn’t scare Raine because when push comes to shove, she could become just as terrifying as the tall man standing in the door way.

“L-listen... we’re freezing our asses off out here. I can’t feel my damn toes.” Raine paused and stole a glance at the others who were just as freezing as she was. Some of the group had stopped shivering which was not a good sign for any of them. If this man didn’t let them in they would die very soon. “We- we can use a place to stay for a c-couple nights and then we’ll be out of your hair.” Raine’s voice was shaky and hoarse from the cold air piercing the back of her throat during the chase.

“I have boar meat I can pay you with. Just please- let us stay and warm up.” Raine was desperate. They all were. She hadn’t eaten in days and was more than willing to give up her meat that took hours of hunting to gain, just to get them out of the cold. Food was scarce nowadays, especially meat since it’s almost always winter out here . Wild life was hard to find and let alone hunt. She silently hoped the meat would be enough to bribe the man into letting them stay.

The man looked at Danaper with a raised eyebrow. "I haven't even let you in yet, and you're asking me for ammo?" He said in a passive aggressive tone. Then his gaze shifted over to the woman Peter didn't know the name of, listening to her reasoning to why they should be let in.

The man took a deep breath, and sighed before speaking. "All weapons will be piled in a corner. If any of you attempt to take them at any moment, or act aggressively toward me, I wont hesitate to gut you like a fish. And if youre worried that I'm going to steal your weapons, then that worry is just going to have to be the price you pay for staying here, not some little slabs of meat." He said and walked back inside the cabin, although he left the door open for them to come in.

Peter hesitated before walking inside. It was still cold in the cabin... also, how was this guy still able to have a home like this? Most houses were destroyed by now.

"Follow me." The man said, as he walked toward the back of the room. He approached a bookshelf and pushed it aside, revealing a dark staircase leading downward. He then disappeared down the stairs, not waiting for the rest of the group to make sure they were following. "And move the bookshelf back before you close the door!" The guys voice said from downstairs. Peter followed the guy downstairs, and when he was halfway down a puff of warm air hit him. It felt good. The room he ended up in was quite large for a basement, and seemed to have been converted into a living space. There were shelves with canned goods on it-which he hadn't seen anything in a can in ages-and water jugs full to the brim. There were two other rooms, but the doors were closed so he couldn't see inside. The only thing that caught most of attention though was the fireplace. Thankfully it had a chimney leading out of the room.

Danaper followed them down the staircase, not closing the bookshelf behind him since people were still coming down. Danaper scanned the room, he noticed the fireplace and ran right over to it to warm up. Danaper took off his gas mask to warm up his face, he looked into the fire before beginning to speak. "What's all of your names, I never asked. Mine is Danaper Williams, I was a Toxic Environment Specialist in the Army before the apocalypse.

Raine let out a breath of relief as the man welcomed them inside his home. She didn’t hesitate when he asked for their weapons to be left behind. It was for his own safety and reassurance. That was something Raine understood. She nodded her head and stepped inside the cabin.

It felt no different than behind outside in the snow. The place seemed like it wasn’t used for a while as if it were abandoned. How did he live in these conditions? She followed him to a bookcase, in which he pushed aside and revealed a large creepy staircase leading down to god knows what.

Raine hesitated, allowing the others descent the stairwell first and then closed the gap with the bookshelf behind them. She silently crept down the stairs, barely breathing and straining her ears to listen for anything that seemed off. But nothing caught her attention other than the awe coming from the group she arrived with.

Once she made it into the basement, and felt a rush of heat embrace her frozen skin, her usual poker face vanished and for once she smiled. Honestly, she didn’t think that the man would take them in but he surprised her. Maybe there is still a little bit of humanity left in the world.

Raine undid her strap on her leather scabbard on her back and placed it in a corner of the room. Inside the scabbard was her sword. She untied the one wrapped around her thigh which carried a dagger and a few throwing blades.

“Raine... my name is Raine.” She answered not going into anymore details about her past life.

She took off her soaked shoes and fuzzy socks, and continued removing the wet layers of clothing until she was left with a black long sleeve shirt and leggings. Raine looked up at the man who let them inside the cabin and cleared her throat.

“Got anywhere uh... private I could change at?” She wanted to change into some dry cloths so that her skin would warm up faster.

Peter went for the fireplace the moment they entered the room, and he sat near it, staring into the fire. It was warm, but he felt worse since he was starting to regain feeling again. Danaper asked what everyone's name, so he responded after a moment. "My name is Peter." He said quietly, still staring at the fire. He only remembered his cloths were soaked when Raine asked where to change.

The man looked back at the group for a second at the question Raine asked. "Door on the left is a bathroom. You can change there. If any of you don't have spare cloths then you'll just have be wet for a while until your cloths dry. If any of you think of stripping here I'll kick you out into the cold without letting you put your cloths back on." He huffed, taking a pot from one of the shelves and filling it with water. He put it over the fire and left it there.

Peter had some spare cloths in his bag. He wished he had his blanket but he left it back in the town hall because it was weighing him down. He waited for the others to change.

Raine thanked the man and left the room chuckling at his threat to the group. The floor was cold and harsh on her sensitive feet but she ignored it as she opened the door to the left of the main room. As soon as she entered she dropped the bag onto the floor and let out a deep sigh, staring into the dirty mirror. Her skin was pale and her lips had a hint of blue due to the cold. “Jesus,” she muttered shaking her head as she took off the rest of her clothing and changed into a warm pair of black sweats and a matching black t-shirt. Raine let her damp hair loose so it could air dry. Lucky for her, she only had a few scratches from the overgrowth and twigs scraping against her skin during the chase.

Raine returned to the main room shortly after she finished changing and sat in front of the fireplace in between Peter and Danaper. She placed her bag in front of her and took out a flash that was half full of water, and took a swig. “Mind if I cook some meat over the flames?” Raine asked the owner of the cabin and offered Peter and Danaper a drink out of her water flask. She would’ve felt bad if she didn’t offer since they all went through hell just to get to the cabin, and in a way their quick thinking and fighting skills saved her life. It was the least she could do.

“So... what’s with the gas mask?” Raine finally asked the question they all must’ve been wondering. She was probably the only one ballsy enough to do it anyways.
