Futuristic The Sun's Rest

phenixrider

Founder of Flame
In the year 2135 when humanity is corrupted, destroyed, forgotten by nature. When nature surrounds most of Urban life, humans are used to living with little light. One day, the plants start to disappear. The humans scatter around the destroyed Earth. Some, not used to the light, move underground. Others, who have lived in bountiful sun their entire lives, populate the lands. Those who move underground begin to evolve to the cold, damp, even darker environment. They gain senses unlike any regular human:hyper-advanced hearing and feeling. They have terrible eyesight though. They have deformities such as miscolored skin, long claws, small beady eyes, and large feet. They are extremely aggressive. Humans call them Dark-Crawlers. People begin to realize that the reason the plants left is because the sun is getting smaller, smaller, smaller. One day the sun is gone. The Dark-Crawlers know of the Eternal Dark as the humans call it. The creatures now have an open dark place to explore. They want Earth.

Edward held his 4-inch-blade as he stalked through New York's streets. He hated going on scouting trips, but he needed to find food and possibly a straggler. He hasn't seen another human in three years.

If Edward was listening to his surroundings, he'd hear a crack, and then a crashing sound, glass breaking, as Eli fell through a floor and out a window. Eli rolled as his form was thrown clear of the falling debris, ending up in a seated position, he looked back at the settling dust, muttering, "Well, That could have gone better." he checked himself over, assessing his body for injuries, after a moment all he found was a few scrapes and a bruised ego, so he started to pull himself to his feet, using his axe as a cane to do so.

Edward's head snapped to the side as he heard a loud crash. "Please, please, please don't be a Dark-Crawler," Edward whispered. He slowly moved toward the sound. "Hello? Is anyone there?" He looked straight ahead and saw a man slowly get to his feet. "Hey sir? Are you okay?"

Eli took his time to slowly rise to his feet, purposely not responding quickly. He straightened himself up and slid his axe over his back, into the sling that he used to hold it. The blade resting near his hips, the handle extending above his head by half a meter, as he did, the Khukuri blade was already in his hand, he turned to Edward and waved with the knife in hand, "Not a Darkie, No, Just a man, with a big long knife, how about you?" He was grinning, turning his face to the younger man, a brow raised. He meant to find how well armed the man was. To gauge if he needed to strike quickly or if he could take things gently.

Edward looked the man over. He appeared to be older and a bit taller than him. Edward pushed his hair aside. "You can trust me. I have food and water if you need some."

Eli paused a moment, and glanced around, as though he hadn't heard the offer of supplies everyone sorely needed, he rubbed his chin, and looked back to the man after a moment, the Khukuri still in hand, "Aye I reckon I could, bein' that mines a bit bigger then yours" He looked Edward over a little more closely, leaning towards him from where he stood, "But food and water aren't much of a problem at the moment, found a bit nearby... bit more then one man could use for a long while, even rationed. Just a bit of an issue with where it is..." He grinned lightly, he'd found the supplies two days before, an abandoned liquor store, the owner had locked both doors before, but left his upstairs windows unlocked, looters, or Dark-Crawlers, had found their way into the apartment and taken refuge, so the big man, despite his weapons and skill with them, wasn't willing to take the place alone. "Maybe we could... break the place together? Willin' to share the loot equal, and..." He looked the younger man over, "You look like you might know a bit more about sneaking then I do, big as I am. I'm a good guard, and I've never let a partner down before." His Khukuri returned to its sheath on his chest as he finished speaking, he extended the hand that formerly held the bled, "How bout it?"

Edward put a finger to the corner of his lips and looked up in thought. "Hmm. Sounds dangerous. Should be fun." Edward grinned like a dumbass before looking and him. "Lead the way. I don't think I caught your name.'

With a snort, Eli turned to the west, "It's Elias, Elias Cullerman, You can call me Eli. What do they call you?" He took his time, walking slowly, making no noise discernible other then his speech, not even his weapons made a sound as he strode forward.

"Edward Jack is the name, but you can call me whatever you like." Edward looked around. "I don't think I have ever been around here before."

Eli nodded slowly, "I've been through once, but that was before the light went out. Well, that and on the way back from the stash... I passed through on my way into town." He made his way carefully across the terrain, it was a calm "night" but there was an odd gloom about the area, Eli frowned, and his hand moved instinctively to the handle of his axe, "You know that tickling feeling you get when someones watchin' ya, when someone's got their scope lined up with the back of your head, and your not sure if they're ahead of ya or behind ya... Gettin' it 'bout now..."

Edward looked at him and tilted his head. "What do you think it is?" Edward drew his knife, ready to fight. "Let's just keep going. Be ready to kill."

Eli shrugged, and muttered, "Put your knife back for the time being, just be ready to draw, dunno if its friend or foe, don't want to scare friends, don't want to show the foe what we have, ya get me?" He looked around, still feeling the odd presence in the area. (Here's a point someone else could enter into the play... You know, if you wanted to...)

(Mmhm gotcha.) "Okay." Edward flipped the blade shut, but still kept the knife in his hand. "Are we almost to this place of yours?"

Ashley had been skulking through the night weary of anyone or anything that might be passing by. 2 days had gone by since she last ran out of provisions and her dehydration was really starting to kick in. She had heard some noise and what sounded like talking on the wind but wasnt sure from which direction, and she quickly dropped into some high grass and drew her 9mm. She waited patiently and 2 guys seemed to be slowly making their way through the night together...she held her aim steady on the taller of the two as she moved to a crouching position. Friend or Foe...shoot or not to shoot? "Whose there?" She shouted out towards the two guys. She remained in crouching position so they couldn't see her weapon.

Eli stopped and called out, "The name's Eli, And this here is Edward, How many are you?" He meant to know if he was surrounded or if there was just one of them. He spoke loudly, "I'm going to reach into my pack, and pull out a light so you can see us more clearly, alright? I'm only going to flash it for a moment, never know how many eyes are about." Eli was slow, methodical, all of his movements were obvious, he even slowed his breathing down, he whispered to Edward, almost too low to be heard, "If they take a shot, drop like you've been hit, and lay prone, I heard a firearm bits tapping together just before she spoke... so we know there's at least one shooter." His hand stopped at his back pack, on an outer pouch, the flashlight was strapped down visibly to his bag, so it would be obvious that he was withdrawing it and not a weapon, "See, Were friends, Just a flashlight." He clicked it on before he unstrapped it, showing what it was clearly. He would pause, and wait before unstrapping it, while his one arm had been moving to the flashlight, his other hand had moved as though stretching to help with the movement of the first, a very obvious move that would be needed to allow the reaching to the light, but his hand was moving to where he'd sheathed his kukiri, his hand resting gently above it, ready to un-clip and withdraw it at a moments notice.

Ashley wasn't sure what to do now. He claimed there friends but how was she to know...she decided to get a little closer. She figured if she was close enough she could drop the big guy if necessary and then take on the little one if she had to. "I'm-I'm alone." she said loud enough for them to hear. She raised up but kept her firearm aimed on the one who identified himself as Eli. She had made it this far and she wasn't planning on dying tonight, but you can never be to sure these days. "Stay where you are, I'm coming to you." she slowly circled them from a safe distance until she was in front of Eli, but still far enough away where she couldn't be rushed or reached before she had a chance to pull the trigger. "The name's Ashley, any chance either of you has some water to spare?" She slowly lowered her gun but kept he hands tightly around it, to be raised and fired at a moment's notice.

Eli nodded, clicking off the light he let his hand fall from his kukiri and onto his backpack's strap, he unslung it, and knelt down, opening it, his axe still on his back. He pulled a canteen with a built in distillation unit out of his bag and offered it to her, "Come on, Happy to share, gonna get more soon as it is. Were friendly... Least I am anyways, Just met Ed here, Were makin for a stash I found a bit nearby." The big man knelt down and unfastened the kukiri blade's sheath from his bandolier, setting it beside his bag, he offered the water to her once more, "It's alright, I'm unarmed now, No reason to hurt you anyways."

Ashley was weary. 2 guys and just me, I'm not liking this. She hadn't seen anyone else in a while and she desperately wanted some water, but she was a little passive about trusting the people before her. She holstered her gun on her right side, knowing that she still had her knife on her back, and even if she couldn't reach it she was more than capable of handling a close quarter altercation. "So you guys aren't planning to kill me then? Or worse?" She had seen the depravity of man a while back and because of that she was sure she lost her brother, but because of his sacrifice she was determined not to let that happen to her. She took a few steps closer and reached out for the canister. Please let this be real and not a trick.

He leaned forward a bit, stretching himself out, If she knew anything about combat training, she would see he was in a very bad position to try anything, "I wouldn't dream of it Miss, and Ed here, He seems like a stand up guy to me, So you should be alright. Besides, If I wanted to do worse, I would have by now." He winked at her with a warm smile, He asked, "So I imagine your out here in the same situation most of us are eh? Looking for safe haven, and praying no one's walking behind you?"

She breathed a sigh of relief as she accepted the water canister and fell back on her ass smiling. "Yeah, I've been wandering about for about 2 days trying to find anyone who wasn't a psychopath," she opened it and took a few huge gulps and nearly chocked on it. It was so good!!!! even if it wasn't ice cold it still felt like a slice of heaven. she quickly composed herself, closed the canister, and handed it back before standing up and dusting off. "Wish all those things were as easy to find as it is to say. You said you were heading to a stash somewhere? Mind if I tag along? Sorry about earlier...the last people I was around." She dropped her head a bit as she thought about her brother fending off her would-be rapists so she could get away.

Eli raised his hands comfortingly, "No need to explain, I've seen a lot of bad... My axe has put down a lot of sick dogs since the sun went out..." He smiled warmly, "It's an old liquor store, or something, might even be ammunition or something inside, who knows, all I do know is the front door is locked from the inside with a heavy bolt, heavy enough to deter most thieves. The upstairs above is occupied by someone or something. I was glad I found Ed here when I did, I wouldn't want to take this place on my own. Too much risk. But anyways, it's about an hour or so to walk there, and you look like you haven't rested or eaten in a week." He pulled food out of his bag as well, dried meat, and some herbs, "It's not much, but it will restore the salt and proteins in your body, You cant get weak out here, Too many monsters."

She bowed her head in thanks as she accepted the food and quickly yet humbly stuffed her face. "So good! Thank you! It's been a while since I remember eating anything." After the fuel she received her face lit up, "Ah, I don't want to forget," she scurried off for a moment, "I left my bag," she hustled back to the tall grass and retrieved her bag, latching back around herself as she returned to the two guys, "Don't want to leave this bad boy behind." She now had a lighter pep in her step and was starting to feel a lot less worn down. "So, Pops...mind if I call you, Pops?...an old liquor store, huh? I can't even recall the last time I had a beer." She tried to recall back on happier times before this living nightmare, but her mind wouldn't let her sway her focus that much. "You can definitely say the monsters bit again...I've seen my share of both human and inhuman." she shivered at the thought of seeing what one of those things looked like up close.

Eli smiled warmly and pulled a bit of the food out for himself, he had an old map of the city as well, he pulled it out, with his flash light on, illuminating it, and motioned to it, it was covered in carefully written notes, territories, safe areas, he beckoned both Ashley and Edward in closer,"I traded with a man some time ago for this, He says its accurate within a year or so, says there might have been scavengers in some places, but, it didn't even have the store marked. I found a few other hot spots where no ones been as well." He pointed out several more red X's on the map. "And then these, I found myself... Dens..." He tapped the circled areas, "High concentrations of... them..." He shrugged, "But this, This is what I really bought it for, you see, the man was a trader, and he somehow knew a safe route through the city, I've been trying to figure out the patterns, to ask him would be foolish of course, never know how underhanded he might be, But..." He tapped the stars that were strewn across the map, "Human safe-houses, I've been scouting them, most so far..." He tapped those crossed out, "Abandoned, mostly, few supplies I could scavenge I did, but I secured them, so they're good retreat points, but..." He scratched his head, "This is the one that intrigued me the most..." His fingertip stopped at a big star, "Its the old Empire State Building... but last I heard..." He shook his head, "There was no one left alive there..." He carefully folded up the map and replaced it in his bag after a few moments, clicking off his flashlight, he replaced it in its holder and strapped it down again before he fixed his bag on his shoulders and stood up, re-securing his kukiri blade on his bandolier. "I was going to show it to Ed after we took the store, but I figured since were taking a shallow break..." He shrugged, "Might as well share it with our new friend as well eh?" He glances to Ed with a lopsided grin.
