Fantasy The Random Hotel

Ajax woke with from a frightful dream and he immediately lunged from the couch and ripped the pillow that eh was resting on in half. He stood there, panting over his kill and then reached for his pouch of wealth. He was relieved, Nobody's going to get your gold, Ajax. Stop worrying so much about it. He looked over at the TV and realized that he conked out in the midst of some quality mundane television marathon, something that seemed to be called, "Doctor Who". He walked over to the restaurant, feeling very hungry. He looked around first for guests that he recognized. He saw a very familiar looking demon and sat down directly next to her. He nudged her side with his elbow and then slid a nearby cushion under his but so that hee would be slightly closer to eye level with her. He grinned with glee and said to his demon friend, "Sha'tana, how've you been! The last time I saw you, you were falling out of the sky. Sorry that I couldn't have helped you back there by the way, I was more than sufficiently preoccupied." Then he looked over across the table at a gentleman that he didn't recognize from before. He sniffed the air and rested a hand on his rapier. He said sternly, all manner of glee flushed from his face, "Sha'tana, I don't know who your new friend is, but he smells a bit desperate, I don't like that smell. It's one of my least favorite odors that a person can produce." He yelled at a passing droid, "T-Bone! And make sure that when it gets here, that it still has a pulse!" Ajax looked over at the stranger and cocked his head to the side a bit, preparing to leap from his seat at a moments notice.

Sha'tana's eyes widen in surprise as Ajax sat beside them, "Speaking of which." She looked from Ajax to Malcom, "This is Ajax. One of my newer guest." When Ajax pulled aside one of her robots for an order, Sha'tana added that she wanted some blood. "I have been not too good to be honest. Thankfully, Mr. McGreggor here has been keeping my mind occupied." This reminded her of Hex, yet again. When will she be over him? "Oh, Ajax this is Mr. McGreggor. He's investigating something within my hotel." She wasn't sure if Malcom wanted her to expose exactly what he's investigating to others, so she kept her mouth shut. She waved off at Ajax as he addressed his suspicions towards Malcom. "Do you mind elaborating a bit on the extent of your powers?" Sha'tana asked Ajax curiously even though the investigating should be done by Malcom.

Ajax scratched the back of his head, a bit confused at the question. He then realized what she meant, or at least though that he did. He said cockily, "I am a powerful Halfling, and as do many others in my species, I stand far shorter than the average human, I have increased perception by your standards, and I am a very strong and prominent adventurer where I come from. Not many know me by name over there, but most refer to me as such ridiculous titles as 'The Destroyer of Worlds'. Silly isn't it? I very much prefer, 'Half-Pint Galactus', I think that it suits me much better." He licked his lips, excited at the mere thought of adventuring. I sure Hope that's what she meant. He then grinned sinisterly at the detective, then back at Sha'tana, "Why do you need to know of my abilities? Do either of you need a job done right? I'm often involved in a lot of... Wetwork. I'm sure I can make any problem in your lives disappear. Poof." He then made a gesture with his off hand that mimicked something being swept away. He always loved to speak in these little semi-riddles, it made he feel like an honest to God hitman, which he already was, but they sure made him feel cool.

Will yawned in a bored manner as he all but strutted into the hotel, his eyes darting around as he took in his surroundings. His lip curled up at the corner as he approached the front desk. "Gu! Darling, it has been too long! How are you? Oh, but never mind that, is my normal room still open or am I unlucky? No? Fantastic."

Will used his index finger to sign his name, leaving what appeared as glittery pen ink across the paper. Gu handed him the keys to his room and Will smiled. "Thank you, you're a dear. Now, do you know where I can find Sha'tana? There is something I must ask her. Oh, she's in the bar? Hm, it's a bit early to be drinking but I can respect that."

Will trailed off and made his way down the familiar halls of the hotel and into the bar and diner area. He never really knew what to call it. Will spotted Sha'tana speaking with a Halfling and a human and seeing tht she was clearly occupied, he sat himself on the other side of the Halfling and examined his nails as he waisted.

Abby frowned. Alchemist? That was new to her. Yet she had to smile when she saw the flower. Maybe I'm just too tired to figure this stuff out right now, she figured. A person who can create flowers out of stone. Well, she supposed she'd have plently of time to figure it out later. "Thank you, I'll take good care of it." She took it and held it close to her. She searched for the words she was trying to say, reaching out a head to steady herself on the base of the stairs.

Sha'tana's rubbed her hand down her face, unsure what to think of Ajax response. Then, she thought again about what he said. Did he say he could make things disappear? she lingered at the thought. She originally called Ezekial to rid of something that was aching at her heart, but she has yet seen any sign of him. Perhaps, Ajax could assist me... she was staring blankly towards Ajax as she collected her thoughts. No! No! No! Sha'tana thought. This is Mr. McGreggor's time to ask questions in regards to his case... she released a tiresome sigh. I'm better off keeping my business private. I'd rather confide to Mr. Serafino... she closed her eyes then rolled them around annoyingly behind her lids. Whenever he tried to help her, he'd cause catastrophes. Maybe, she ought to trust a new man, a smaller man. She looked again at Ajax thoughtfully. Suddenly, she noticed she never responded to poor Ajax, "Eh, um.. perhaps I'll let Mr. McGreggor do the investigating." She really didn't want to go back to her room to find the black rose floating there at the tip of her bed. She loathes the idea of Hex now. She wants every memory of him gone, diminished.

Emyr slithered in through the front doors of the hotel, half expecting a scream and random objects thrown at his head. Luckily this was not the case so he immediately knew this would be a good place to stay. He slithered up to the desk and talked to the man.

"Hello! I'd like to rent a room here, my name is Emyr Heulog. For my room I need a big bed and bath because of my tail."

After getting his room he decided that since he had no bags he would head into the restaurant to see what was on the menu.

Caspian was in the lobby thinking. He looked up towards the entrance of the hotel and saw a unique being. He didn't look like he was from the sea. Strange, Caspian thought. He walked around shirtless just like Caspian. At least they have one thing in common. "Hey, where are you from?" He asked the man nonchalantly.

Emyr was a little surprised at how calmly this man had walked up to him, didn't they think he was weird? Then again on a second thought a lot of the people here did look a little off, maybe they were also supernatural?

"I'm from the Amazon rainforest specifically, but I've been wandering for the last few years so I don't really come from anywhere I guess? Anyway I'm Emyr, what's your name?"

Caspian smiled, "Caspian." He said simply. "Not everyday I see a man slithering by," he laughed. "First time here?" He thought of his first time here. He spoke with a pretty girl, who seems too busy to answer his goal driven questions. Perhaps, a man from an unknown land may know of the secrets Caspian seeks.

Rowan smiled sweetly and said, "No problem, sweet heart." He rubbed his neck and shifted his stance from one foot to another. "So, you mentioned something about the king and abilities that you have. Well, I told you what I can do, so it's your turn to share your dark secrets. What can you do?"

Emyr still wasn't sure why he was being treated so warmly.

"Yeah it is, what exactly is this place? I've never been anywhere where I don't get at least a few scared looks and a scream or two." he said while looking at some of the people around, getting nothing more than a few stares.

Caspian laughed, "I was called a fairy by a ignorant human on my second stay here." He ruffled his hair. "I don't know this place," suddenly, his easygoing voice turned into a low growl, "...but I know who owns it and I hate her." Caspian looked really unhappy. He remember her dancing, stealing his moment with the girl who potentially had the answers he needed. She ruined his moment. Caspian shook his head. "Sorry, hate..." he shrugged and laughed awkwardly. He pointed at his head and twirled his finger.

Abby sighed. "I actually don't know. I think it's connected to hy eyes somehow, though." As she talked her hand subconsciously went to her eyepatch. "It's... Odd. Where I come from at least, and I don't like being odd."

Malcolm looked at the man named Ajax. Maybe more correctly looked down at, since this guy was not that tall. He blinked twice before shaking his head, still facing Ajax. He coughed lightly before saying "Mr Ajax, I need your help with a case I am working on, and I have a feeling that the suspect have gone to another world, around two years ago. My problem is, I first need to determine where his magic comes from. As you may know, magic works like fingerprints, the caster leaving a certain mark when a spell have been casted, both giving away his signature and home world; race if you prefer that."

Malcolm sat a bit back feeling into his trench coat for something. Finally after some cursing and swearing, he pulled out his trusty metal flask, pulled out three metal cups from another pocket, and filled each almost to the brim, with a transparent purple and bubbly liquid tat had the distant sweet smell of burning flesh, and handed or to both Ajax and Sha'tana. Malcolm looked at the two for a moment and remembered. "Sorry, but this is how I usually start a partnership or contract. The liquor is supposed to bond the trust of each one of the participants in this "ritual" of mine. Learned it from an old fellow when I was traveling in Japan. It's called a charm, brings good virtue and health and so on, so forth. This one also strengthen partnership." Malcolm waved his free hand in the air to make his point, about him not carting about explaining further. He then muttered a few words over the drinks, then exclaimed "GAMPAI." Before drinking it, making a few patrons in the restaurant look his way. He then quickly clapped once and said "Oh you need to finish yours in one go, else it will not work. Terrible things will fall upon us in fact."

Emyr was a little surprised when Caspian said "ignorant human"

"Well I suppose if you don't like her you must have a reason. So if a human called you something else does that mean you aren't one?"

Ajax grinned and looked into Malcolm's eyes, then put his fingers on the top of the drink that Malcolm poured out. Jackpot, now all you have to do is reel him in. Ajax spoke calmly and very sure of himself, "I'm not going to drink this, not yet. There are two things. One, I know for a fact that people want me dead, and they won't hesitate to cause some collateral damage to get to me, so I'm going to watch you closely for symptoms for about a half hour or so, then I'll happily drink this pleasant smelling drink. Two, this doesn't happen often. I'm the type to get paid to make people disappear not to figure out where they disappear to. So what I'm trying to get across here is that this job is going to bleed your wallet dry." Ajax pulled out a small pouch from his pocket and disconnected it from his belt. He opened the pouch for a moment and showed both of the others at the table a glimmer of gold and silver coins, along with some precious jewels. Ajax connected the pouch to his belt and then slid it back into his pocket. He began to speak again, "What I need is another one of those. It'll probably run you about 1,500 of those American Dollars. Keep in mind that that'll cover the cost of my services, the cost of me traveling back to my dimension, paying a witch there to find out which dimension your suspect is in, then for me to get back here. It'll be a long journey for me, an expensive one as well. However, In this frame of existence, it shouldn't take longer than a few minutes." Ajax thought a minute about what else he would need, or at least want anyway. Ajax snapped his fingers and pointed at the table excitedly. Ajax began to speak in a smooth voice, "Two other things that I need. One would be one of those revolvers, I've never had one and I've always wanted one. You can give that to me when I get back. The other is something that I absolutely need before I leave is a part of the person that you are looking for. It has to be part of an item that was very dear to your suspect, a piece of skin, hair, or a part of something that he is still traveling with right now. Without at least one of those items, the operation is a bust before it even started. In my opinion." Ajax leaned over in his seat and smelled the drink. It smelled of burning skin, Ajax smiled and thought, Oh, someone is definitely trying to tempt me here. Ajax began again, "I know what you're thinking, you're thinking that its a spell, why would you need a part of the person who got whisked away?... Well, I'm not a wizard or a sorcerer or anything like that. Most of my magical goods come from witch in a forest in an alternate dimension, I need something tangible to bring to her to work with."

(A little FYI the hand has been changed to the one of a woman for the sake of the plot.)

Malcolm smiled at the offer, it was a bit pricy, and since he got no money for finishing this... No he had to try this lead. "I can do with 1.500, but my revolver on the other hand, that is out of the question. It has way greater sentimental value, to just be given away. Besides, they don't cost much on earth anyway." Malcolm said with a hint of annoyance.

Malcolm pulled out his revolver. It was a standard revolver, the one you would expect cops to have. Although it was a bit worn out, and decorated with a skull and a clover, as well as the characters "みか" on the grip. "You see Mr Ajax, this have helped me throughout my entire career, and now helps me on jobs that gets too, messy, at times." Malcolm smiled with a grin, that only proved that it had so, dozens of times. "That is why I can never give it away to anyone. Not even if it mean I could find her..." He cut himself off. He could have bitten off his own tongue and swallowed it whole, that's how close he was. He quickly pulled out his pouch, and started pulling out several dollar bills, counting each one, and laying them corresponding to their value. "1.550 dollars, tips counted in." Malcolm said with the hint of a chuckle.

Ajax looked at the money in a bored manner, counted it all up and saw that it was all there, and no counterfeits that he could make out. He sighed and said, "Well, it's not gold, but I suppose that it'll do, since I do plan on hanging around a bit longer." Ajax placed the money on the table and then said, "Oh, and I do think that you misheard me, I didn't mean yours, I meant a revolver. Crossbows are fun and all, but I was hoping for something that I could conceal a bit easier. If they're cheap as you say, I'll figure that out when I return..." After a moment of thought he said with a tone of slight confusion, "And you're trusting me with all of the money right here? I wouldn't trust me with it. I was going to let you keep half until I returned, well a sign of trust for another, right?" Ajax said "Gampai!" in a slightly loud tone and then chugged the drink. He flipped over the cup onto the table and then spoke again, interlocking his hands above the table, as if he was about to talk business, "Like I said earlier, there is another component that I need to find your suspect. I need an part of an item that belonged to the one that you are seeking that they still have in their possession, piece of an item of theirs that held great sentimental value to them, or a piece of their actual person, such as hair or skin. Hell, I'll settle for a portrait. My witch could probably narrow it down to two or three frames of existence that way." Ajax flipped through the money over and over again, with a very bored look on his face, "Without anything to off of, the most I promise you is to narrow it down to forty dimensions. And honestly, that's just a guess, I'm not as familiar as my witch is with all of this inter-dimensional tracking business." Ajax grinned gleefully at him and then said, "Don't try to intimidate me again. I LOOked the devil right in the eye and then I went in, and I cut his lungs and heart to shreds. I don't fear anymore, that's why I'm still alive. Also, if you don't believe me, ask Sha'tana, she was there.."

Sha'tana's looked back and forth as Ajax and Malcom spoke to one another. When Malcom placed a drink before her, she didn't really think; she just drank. She cringed at the taste. She cocked her head as Ajax began bargaining himself. Her eyes widen as he exposed his treasure within a bag hung upon his belt. She cocked her head to the other side when she saw Malcom counting hundreds. Well, he isn't playing around... Ajax looked just as shock as she did when Malcom gave him the money. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" Sha'tana placed her hand on Ajax's arm. She didn't want Ajax walking around with Malcom's only evidence. "Mr. McGreggor believes someone within this hotel has something to do with this case. Perhaps, I can provide you with all the names of my guests." Sha'tana looked back towards Malcom, "I was there... that's how I learned of his... abilities." Still, Sha'tana trusted Ezekial more, but it seems that Malcom has already placed his bet. It is simply because she's known Ezekial for years; she just meant Ajax, kind of.

Caspian slapped his forehead, "I'm not a fairy..." He looked a bit annoyed. "I'm a merman." Caspian decided he didn't have any time to lose. He wanted to cut to the chase, solve his mystery. He doesn't care if he has to interrogate every living creature in this hotel. "Do you by any chance know of any worlds besides your own?" He was thinking pessimistically. Caspian knows for sure there's no snake men on his planet. This guy must have came from an other dimension. Caspian looked at Emyr anxiously.

Rowan watched intrigued as Abby's hand motioned to her eyepatch, seemingly of its own will. "So that's why you were wearing an eyepatch! And here I thought you were a very pretty pirate." He chuckled, then brushed his hair away from his face. "As for being odd, I like odd. It makes you more than just a regular human, even if oddities are looked down by most people."

Sigismund said:
"Ah. Artemis Agrotera, Potnia Theron. Twin sister to Apollo. She is also the goddess of the wild animals, childbrith and ironically virginity too.. A good question why she would have those last aspects... They don't really seem to work together.. Mysteries of the ancient gods." Ezekiel sneezed and had a surprised expression. "Oh darn.. Someone is talking about me. Ehmmh... You're here.. So that is out.. Who else knows me well? Ajax do... Then there is Sha'tana... Hmmh.." Ezekiel pondered onwards.
"Okay, the circle is complete."

Malcolm nodded slowly as Ajax told about his encounter with the devil. "Most impressive. I have only met and sometimes dealt(?) with demons and spirits in my life, but the devil himself? That is quite impressive." Malcolm said widening his eyes a little. He stretched his back and looked in his suitcase and took the black rose out of it, and gave it to Ajax. "This item will have the marks of our target. As long as I get a location and a means of transportation, I will be a happy costumer." He said smiling a semi-confident smile. Not something he did often, as he was sure of his actions. But today was different. Today he could not just take it as another job, it had gotten to him night and day. He had to make peace with his heart.

Malcolm stared into the air a little, before shaking his head violently and stood up, leaving a card bearing a number on, and left the table, saying, as if to close the matter, "I do look forward to our cooperation. If you need some additional information about mi... I mean the case, feel free to drop by room 6." He had barely said the latter before storming out of the restaurant, and up into his room, closing it ever so fast behind him.

(Sorry for the late response. Having a lot of extra work lately.)

Ajax genuinely cringed at the thought of having to charge the fella more for an already expensive job. He said with honest regret in his voice as he gestured his hands in a 'No, no no' fashion. His client stood up and left. Ajax wrote out the following and slid the note under Malcolm door. "I usually don't feel bad about taking people's money, and I really don't mean to be a jerk about the cash but inter-dimensional travel is very expensive and the money that you paid me was for time, expenses, hardship and tracking down your suspect into whatever dimension he/she is. The scroll that I use goes only to two, my home and this one, and it cost me my entire life's savings at the time that I purchased it, a very decently sized wealth of gold, silver, and gems. More than many would see in their lifetimes. With you, it seems that you have two actual options. You can get a one way elixir, which will bring you to the dimension you seek as long as you concentrate on it hard enough, from what I've heard, a botched elixir can actually hurl you back to your home dimension, and not always in one piece, usually in three. Three is a completion number, the universe works in strange ways like that. That will run you an extra hundred or so, that'll be the cheapest option. You can get an elixir commonly referred to as 'the twin. Two halves of the same elixir, it'll take you to the dimension of your choosing, and back here whenever you want, or at least when you drink the other half. That'll run you about a thousand... Right now, you're likely thinking, 'If I want to get back here, why not use two of those cheaper ones or perhaps split the cheap one? Won't that have the same effect?' The answer is that it doesn't work that way, it really doesn't. To get back and forth, the means to get to and from a dimension must share a medium or brewed from the same pot. That's just how the magic from my world works. I'm an expert in this, and I swear on my honor as a swashbuckler, a Halfling, and a creature on my God's beautiful green earth that these are the cheapest forms of inter dimensional transportation. Your only option would be a scroll like mine. Which would give you infinite access to two dimensions, the one that you came from and the one that you went to the first time you used the scroll. I wouldn't recommend that because this would cost about the price of fifteen of those bags that I showed you before. It sounds to me like you want to get in there, do your thing, then leave. I would say that you want an elixir, that would be your best bet. I apologize sincerely that I must charge you more. I'll be in my room: 3131 for about a half hour preparing for the journey ahead. If you want the twin elixir, I recommend coming t0 visit me before I leave, or else I'll just buy thee cheapest option. This job WILL get completed, because as they say in my business, a contract is a contract is a contract."

At the bottom of the page there is a large splotch of dark red, which is distinctively blood, Ajax's blood to be precise.

Ajax slammed on the door and then went into his own room and began to prepare himself for the journey ahead.
