Fantasy The Lost Treasure of Creation

Ireth stopped and noticed Gier grab the hild of his sword. Before she could say anything they were surrounded by rats. Already being on edge from the presence she felt quickly she put a shield around the group out of instinct. There was something else she just knew it. She looked at Evaryle. "There's a bigger threat here than just them." She whispered to him. Figuring her first instinct was right and perhaps she should have spoke up before. So the elf felt that she should at least speak up now.

Raiquen Nguyen

Raiquen followed the group quietly through the tunnels, focused more on not stumbling and falling on someone than he was on his surroundings. He was glad that Geir had lit up the area, just in case something did happen, though. Every now and then, some noise off to the side caught his attention. Berhtram and Merle looked nervous, their feathers puffed out slightly. Maybe it was just the atmosphere of the tunnels and knowledge of their history, but all three felt strangely on edge. You know, I'm really starting to get a bad feeling about this... Raiquen commented quietly. Suddenly, Merle let out a startled caw, followed shortly by Geir's warning. Something was indeed wrong.

We're surrounded by rats! Berhtram exclaimed in surprise. Lots of rats! And... rat men! I think they might be the smugglers we've been hearing about. Hmm... Think these rats taste any good? A slight noise could be heard as Ireth's barrier went up, so Berhtram also made sure to add that to his description of the situation. Raiquen was still unsure where the feeling of anxiety was coming from, though; as Berhtram had pointed out, ravens ate rats, and predators weren't scared of their prey. There had to be something else down here, but it wasn't worth worrying about at the moment. It was best to deal with the obvious problem first.

"Not... scared... you, rats!" Raiquen exclaimed as boldly as someone muttering in their sleep could manage. In truth, it sounded pretty pathetic, but he didn't care. He turned to face one of the nearer enkidu, readying himself in case they were able to break through Ireth's shield. He wondered if rat enkidu would be scared of a raven enkidu, but then realized that it wouldn't matter anyways, since he looked like a kid and was covered in bed sheets, hiding his race.
Now, Raiquen told the ravens calmly, and they launched themselves forward into the pile of rats, talons ripping at the sea of furry hides.

Evaryle Avelis

Location: Ocean City - Tunnels

With: Arya, Keir, Ireth, Geir, Raiquen

Evaryle grinned at the rats and purposefully let an intimidating presence leave him. He let the presence leak and hoped the rats would feel it. He pulled out his knife and grinned devilishly.

"My my...so we aren't leaving here alive?" Evaryle half asked since the answer was obvious. He continued to grin then chuckled a little, saying, "We just wanted to get out of the city because the guards are after us. However...we wan't go down without a fight."

The shadows around Evaryle began dancing in an illusion. They danced and wrapped around him, whipping in one direction or the other. Then they dissipated into the surrounding shadows as Evaryle said, "The darkness is one of my domains. I can see every last one of you...so I will ask: Why do you think we' rat out to the guards? You're quite cautious of it, aren't you. So, I'm going to guess that you have a secret you REALLY want to keep hidden. We'll keep it, if you let us leave the city."

Evaryle turned his head to Ireth and whispered, "No kidding, they have an agenda beyond the common criminal. First sign is they didn't ask us to drop our valuables."

Location: Road to dormant volcano

With: no one

near: I don't know

___________________________________________________

The road was a mess, scarcely used one could tell as it doesn't seem most travel to the volcano often.

Inua was as usual alone, and on her way to her next question. She had heard rumors of a ancient temple hidden in the volcano, with treasure buried beneath.

Not much of what kind of treasure but it was a lead.

Inua was keenly aware of her surroundings refusing to allow her mind to roam. She had to many memories, and to much pain, so she ignored it completely and stayed in the present. Never contemplating her actions, and never doubting. He sword was seated and her axe hung as she walked the tattered road. She had food for a week, and water for 3 days, maybe 5 if conserved wisely. Inua could see the volcano in the distance but it was hard to judge the time it would take to get there.

Geir Brandr Ignatius

Location: Ocean City - Hidden Tunnels

With: Keir, Evaryle, Raiquen, Ireth, Arya

The rats that the ravens attacked squealed at the attack, a large group of the rats gaining up together to scratch and bite at the ravens. Though a few rats would definitely lose against a large raven, a large horde of them working together could easily be another story -- this seemed to be what the rats were attempting, as a large amount of the rodents attempted to overpower the ravens while they were outside of Ireth's shield.

The rat enkidu men laughed at Evaryle's words. "Ya t'ink it matters that ya see us? We 'ave numbers, boy, yer seein' us won' change that," one of them spoke through his laughter. As he finished speaking, the rats began to advance, launching themselves at the shield around the group over and over, again attempting to overwhelm and break through.

Geir sighed as all this was going on. "Well, either way, one of us is going to die. Wanna tell us what you're doing down here, then?" he asked, slowly yet purposefully taking his sword out of its sheath and bringing it in front of him. His request was only met with laughter and more attacks from the rats. "Suit yourself, then," he shrugged.

The dragon's eyes flashed blue for a moment, and a wall of teal flames burst forth amongst the rats. Pained squeals and the smell of burning meat and fur permeated the tunnels as the wall burnt through the rats, then died down. Another wall of teal flames began to burst forth like the first one, in another concentrated area of rats, leading to similar results. This went on for a few repetitions -- a wall of flame burning and pushing back rats and fading away, then the rats pushing forward again, only to be pushed back once more by the flames. After a few repetitions of this, however, it was clear that the extended use of such large magic was beginning to take its toll on the dragon, and the walls of flame began to get smaller until they stopped completely. The dragon wasn't completely out of magic, but he had used enough that he didn't want to use another large attack like that and run out completely. He still needed to keep the flames up for light, anyway.

The flames had cut through many of the rats, but it was like a never ending horde continued emerging from further into the tunnels. Do they have all of the rats in the freaking city down here? Geir thought with annoyance. This was proving to be very inconvenient to him. With an annoyed sigh, flames emerged surrounding his body and extending along his sword. "Man, I wish I had my other sword right about now," he mumbled under his breath, then launched himself outside of the safety of the shield and into the horde of rats and enkidu, slashing and burning his way through the horde.

Arya Tinuviel

Location: Ocean City - Hidden Tunnels

With: Evaryle, Raiquen, Ireth, Keir, Geir

Arya stood at the edge of the group, barely within the shield that Ireth had put up. Her well-crafted mask of neutrality was beginning to slip, and her nervousness was beginning to show. There's just so many people... she thought, nervously glancing around at the enkidu men, the rats, and those who had come with her. Her left hand gripped her scythe tighter and water began spiking up from the puddle at her feet. The group of rats attacking the shield over and over, the sheer amount of those around her, was causing memories to surge up. Panic began to rise in her as she was reminded of her village, of the mob that had surrounded her parents and killed them, the mob that had surrounded her, and would have killed her as well if...

A roar of annoyance came from the dragon fighting the rats, briefly snapping Arya out of her paralyzed fear. A hardened look came over her eyes now, and she adjusted her scythe, turning it so the blade was facing outward. The water at her feet began to rise, and suddenly the girl had sprung into action. Water became sharp and like needles, piercing rats and the enkidu men surrounding them. The girl's scythe moved in sweeps -- these were slightly confined due to the walls of the tunnel, but was still effective in taking out quite a few enemies at once. By now, Arya had left the shielded area, and the rats and enkidu began to attack her. The hybrid began cutting her way through the enemies, using her water sometimes to push enemies back, and other times to cut and pierce them. The rats and enkidu kept coming, sometimes getting a bite or a cut in on the hybrid, before being pushed back or slaughtered.

A few times her scythe came close to hitting her allies, though it seemed to just barely miss each time. Still, the fact that she was getting so close to those she was supposed to be allied with was strange; it would be more obvious to those who knew her, but the girl was usually overly cautious about getting close to her allies in a fight. Now, it was as if she barely recognized their presence, cutting through whatever got too close.

From farther up in the tunnel, the sound of water rushing could be heard, making its way closer to the group.

Near where Pansa was, water from the ocean began to rise up unnaturally, crashing down on the beach in giant waves. Ocean water began rushing, almost like a river, down the sand towards a rocky cliff face. The water crashed against the cliff, but if one looked closely enough, they would be able to see the water slipping through a crack in the wall that was barely noticeable. The sheer amount of water being flooded towards this crack was certainly unnatural.

The water moved fast, seeping into the crack that led to the tunnel where Arya, Ireth, Keir, Raiquen, Evaryle, and Geir were encountering the rat horde. The ocean water was building up in the tunnels, building up a giant wave, before it began crashing it's way towards the group, constantly being fed more water from the ocean outside. The water had a little ways to travel before it would reach the group, but it would not take long. The group would be able to hear the sound of water rushing in the distance, then quickly becoming louder as it approached.

((Uh-oh, wave of water threatening to crush the group along with the rats...hmmmm))

The volcano was about two days' walk from Inua if she were to move quickly and stop only briefly when necessary. It was closer to three days' walk at a more relaxed, energy-conservative pace, and four or five days if the woman moved slowly or was held up.

About halfway along the path from the city to the volcano was a small village. It wasn't much, but it had a small tavern, a few houses -- many of which doubled as a work space or place of business for the residents -- and a few trade stands for things such as food or crafts. Along the path between the city and the village, however, there tended to be many bandits, as this was a road often traveled by trading caravans.

Past the village, monsters would begin appearing with more frequency as one got closer and closer to the volcanic area. From there, there would be a long and harsh hike up the volcano, likely to take another two days -- one and a half if taken at a quick pace with no interruptions from monsters -- before the entrance to the volcanic dungeon was reached.

If Inua continued to walk in her current direction along the path, a recently-abandoned campsite could be spotted just out of the way on the left of the path. Smoke still rises from the embers of a previous fire, and there are signs of three or so tents having been put up. There are signs of at least one bladed weapon being sharpened.

@MsPolite

Pansa stopped his studies to observe the strange waves. The waves were way too large and could not possibly be a natural occurrence. Pansa's five senses had been trained to an almost supernatural level many years ago when he was but a young lad. His keen ears picked up an unsettling cracking noise in the cliff where he currently set up camp. He quickly repacked his things and headed for more solid ground. He moved closer to the entrance of the caverns and used his keen hearing to pinpoint how far he was from the fault point. If the cliff split he wanted to be nowhere near the part that mighr break off.

Ireth tensed as the rats pounded on the shield. It made her head hurt and throb as she grimaced through the pain I attempt to keep her shield up.

She raised her hand and tried to push it outward as a final attack until finally it collapsed. She cried from the splitting headache the causes her vision to momentarily blur. She pulled out her dagger in order to protect herself but the heard the water.

"Arya?" She called hoping it was her doing and they were safe.

Keir Sullivan

Keir watched, ready, as his allies began attacking the rats. He figured that he would jump in once they were beginning to tire out; if they all went in at once, with the seemingly endless horde surrounding them, they would probably all tire out at about the same time, which would be bad. He jumped a little as the rats threw themselves at the barrier surrounding them, and, noticing Ireth's pained expression, knew it wouldn't hold much longer. Discarding his earlier plan to wait a while, as it wouldn't work now, Keir drew his knife and prepared for battle.

As the barrier pushed outward and finally dissipated, he began slashing at the onslaught of rats that immediately launched themselves at those who had not already entered the fray. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that the hybrid boy had spread his wings from beneath the sheet covering him and was attempting to blow the rats back a bit with huge gusts of air. Unfortunately, the small size of the tunnels seemed to be making it difficult. The boy's raven companions were only barely holding their own, and looked quite beat up. Keir considered trying to fight his way over to help, but didn't have much time to consider it.

In his distraction, one of the rat enkidu had stabbed him in his midsection. The wound wasn't immediately life threatening, as the weapon hadn't pierced any vital organs, but it was extremely painful. He gritted his teeth and swung his knife at the man, but it was parried. As Keir looked desperately for an opening, he became aware of the sound of rushing water. Was that Arya's doing? He hoped so; the group really didn't need any more problems to deal with at the moment. Black eyes quickly darting over to glance at Arya, he yelped as her scythe swung dangerously close to him. That was unusual; he thought she was generally more careful than that. He didn't have time to dwell on it, though, as his enkidu opponent tried to attack him again. This time Keir managed to fight him off and kill him, but more rats swarmed towards him as soon as he did. Is there any end to these things? He wondered.

Created an opening large enough to allow him to quickly look around again, he noticed that at least a few of the others looked tired. The hybrid boy was covered in scratches, as he seemed to be nearly powerless to shake off any rats that made it through to him. The two ravens were now almost overwhelmed, too. Using his brief opening, Keir moved over to aid them, ignoring the intense pain of the wound in his side. Blood was pouring from it, hot and sticky, but he did his best to ignore that, too. One thing that couldn't be ignored, however, was that the sound of rushing water was quickly getting louder.

Evaryle Avelis

Location: Ocean City - Tunnels

With: Arya, Keir, Ireth, Geir, Raiquen

Evaryle shoved his knife into several rats before he made the decision to use magic. He held up his hand and sent out a giant gust of wind which blew the rats away several feet. It bought them little time too, but he couldn't keep blowing them away, it would only delay the inevitable, but the sound of rushing water went to his nerves more.

"The situation gets worse...rats to either side and an oncoming flood," Evaryle said as he let a nervous smile engrave itself on his face. He chuckled to himself and just waited. He wouldn't be able to outrun the flood anyway, or get through the sea of rats. Didn't matter to him though. His chances of survival didn't look too good.

Vikishvok thought for a minute as the walked towards the front of the inn, that was a bit of time but she was right and wrong about the travel time. "Don't worry about the extended trip back I can fly you back quickly if time becomes pressed so don't worry to much about that. So what is it that you search for?" he asked curiously when he noticed her soft tail brushing against his legs. "Also your tail is very soft, are your nervous? if so you can wrap it around my leg as long as you don't try to restrict my movement by wrapping to tightly" he spoke teasingly giving her a warm smile, trying to cheer her up some. "As for food, i do believe this places serves breakfast and its still early in the morning so lest take a minute and eat here before we leave, On me," he offered gesturing to an empty table in the same spot as yesterday with his free arm.
