Jacob looked at Soren as he pulled himself away, and Jacob sighed heavily. He didn't want him to go, but he knew that he had to. "Perhaps that's something you can bring up." He said as he sat up, watching Soren getting dressed in his uniform. Jacob got to his feet as he stretched, looking at Soren when he wrapped his arms around him. "It's out on the counter. Let me throw something decent on, and I'll grab it for you." Jacob said, pulling away reluctantly himself this time and walked over to the dresser, pulling on pants and then he went into the closet and pulled on one of Soren's flannels. Mostly because he could but also because he'd miss him.

Josh smiled into the kissing, and it was like life was before the world changed. When Hayden pulled away and swatted at him, Josh laughed. It was something so similar to how they used to be. "Alright, I'm going." Josh said, kissing Hayden one more time before he moved off the bed. Joshua pulled on his outfit and smiled. "I'll go save the world, and you take care of these people here, including that little kid." Josh added as he headed out of the bedroom.

Soren moved out into what would eventually be a living room and waited for Jacob to come and join him. He may have been grabbing a list, but Soren was immediately distracted by the flannel. “Ohh, that looks good on you.” He reached for the shirt and pulled it around, pulling Jacob close to him. “I like you in my clothes.” He let himself fall into the pit of immense attraction before finally stepping away to grab this list that Jacob had. He plucked it between his fingers and pointed to him. “I have my list of demands. I have me. Am I forgetting anything else before I leave for an undetermined but far too long amount of time?”

Hayden laughed as Josh finally got up, feeling like the world was not so bad. Like they could get through this. He followed him out of the bedroom. “Hey. Wait. Before you go.” He grabbed Josh’s arm and turned him around. He stood on his tiptoes and stole a kiss. “I love you.” He smiled brightly and then shoved Josh towards the door. “Get out. I have a little kid to befriend. I’m planning ways to steal him from his parents and keep him for my own. The less you know the better.”

When Jacob walked out into the eventual living room, list in hand, he heard Soren’s words and blushed a little. A smile grew as he felt Soren pull the shirt around, and he was drawn close. “I like wearing your clothes. They’re comfy and they smell like you.” Jacob admitted. He watched Soren step away, heard his words and stepped over to him. “Mm. No you aren’t forgetting anything.” He said, leaning in and kissing Soren one more time. “I love you. Now go do your job. I’ve got a support group to help start.”

Josh heard Hayden laugh and he felt the hand grab his arm and turned him around. He looked at Hayden who stood on his tiptoes and he smiled into the kiss. “I love you too.” He said as he was pushed towards the door. “Okay okay. I’m going. You go befriend that kid. And yeah, the less I know is probably a good thing.” Josh said, chuckling as he opened the door, looked back at Hayden with a grin and a wink before stepping out into the hallway and shut the door. He waited for Soren in the hall.

Soren joined Josh out in the hall not long after. He held up the list as he closed the door. “Good morning.” He pointed toward him with the list. “You look like you’ve had a good morning.” He glanced over at Josh’s door. Good mornings meant that everyone was doing better. This was what they were all saying. It was a bad and hard situation, but if they worked together, they could make it work. “I have a list of things our people need.” He waved the paper. “And I am prepared to use the influence I have and you are already acquiring to get what I want. Ready to head out?”

Hayden laughed as Josh left, savoring the image of that wink. He stood there thinking about it for several minutes. Thinking about them and how good they were. How even in the apocalypse, they were still so good. He thought about the kisses that still burned on his lips. That would never go away, would it? Good. He didn’t want to forget. Eventually he turned around and found himself throwing on something decent for the day. It could be a good day. A great day even.

Josh looked over at Soren and smiled. “Good morning. And I did. I had a good morning. And I feel you did too.” He said with a chuckle. He saw the list and nodded. “Let’s go see if we can get everything on that list.” Josh said, turning to head down the hall. The kiss still lingered on his lips as he moved. He hoped that he’d never lose those.

Jacob watched Soren head out of their room and sighed. He waited a few minutes, allowing Josh to leave and then he headed out the door himself, and walked over to Hayden’s door. He knocked on it with a smile. “Hayden.. it’s Jacob, can I come in?” He called through the door.

Soren shrugged. “I’ve decided to only have good mornings.” He too turned and headed down the hall, taking the very large number of stairs down to the first floor. “So I am thinking we meet back up with everyone in that fancy headquarters of theirs and see where they are on the plans for downtown and also see if they made any additional progress in our absence. Since it was night, it seems unlikely but we never know.”

“Come in!” Hayden called from the bedroom as he pulled on some pants. It occurred to him that Josh probably locked the door, so he abandoned his quest for clothes and ran out to open it himself. He smiled at Jacob, said, “Hey,” and then immediately turned back around to finish swapping out shirts.

Josh nodded as he heard that, knowing what Soren meant. He was happy with good mornings. As they headed down the hall and downstairs, he saw other soldiers leaving their apartments, heading the same way they were. “Sounds like a good plan to me.” Josh agreed as they stepped outside and made their way towards the new headquarters.

Jacob smiled at Hayden when he opened the door, stepping inside. “Hey.” He said, seeing Hayden turn around to swap shirts out. “So. How did we want to get this support group started? Just knock on everyone’s door again or? There must be some kind of place we can all get together here.” Jacob wondered before a smile crossed his face. “Or did you wanna go say good morning to Kaiden before we do anything else?”

Soren waved to people as they walked by and pulled some in for conversations. He wanted to make sure that he was remembering everyone’s names and their families. It was important to make those connections. By the time they made it to the central headquarters, they split ways with several of the other workers but still had a handful with them. “Alright. Where to first?”

Hayden pulled on one of the shirts, he actually didn’t pay attention to which one, and joined Jacob again. “You’re both menaces, you know that?” But he was smiling, because he knew it was true. “Besides, I don’t see why we can’t do both. Of course we go knock on some doors. Maybe we say that we will meet in here if anyone wants to come by? It could be a come and go if you need someone or something? Just need some support maybe? I mean, we don’t have a lot of places to sit or things to do, but it’s a start right?” He paused as he thought about that little boy across the hall. “And we could offer some assistance to those who have littler ones?” But yeah, he really just wanted to see Kaiden again.

Josh listened to the conversations, listened to Soren talking to the others. He knew the connections were good to make and that it was important to have them. But he also wasn’t a big talker. Sure he could talk to others but he never used to choose that. He preferred to keep to himself. Unless he was with Hayden and then he was quite loud and confident. “Should we find either the commander or the general or someone who knows the plan?” He asked.

Jacob laughed hearing Hayden and knew that Josh probably said something similar to him. He saw the smile on Hayden’s face though which only confirmed his thoughts. Jacob nodded as he heard that. “That’s a good idea. We can have this as the main area for people to come to if they need support or anything.” Jacob agreed as he nodded his head, a smile on his own face. “I’ve been thinking about that, and I was considering offering to watch that little one down the hall. Theo and give Rachel a break. I can only imagine how often Theo’s parents are around if they’re both soldiers.” Jacob commented as he headed for the door. “But let’s start with your favorite little one.” He added, opening the door for them.

Commander, general, or whoever would probably work. “You think they have a cohesive plan?” Soren asked. He looked around and tried to overhear what people were saying. There was a decent amount of chatter, though it felt more organized than the day before. That was good at least. After a while of not having any luck, Soren stopped in the middle of the room and spoke loudly. “Does anyone know who we need to find to talk about downtown?” The chatter in the area all stopped as they listened to his booming voice. It was a skill he had learned from Cap. One woman came over to them. “I think they are already sending the low flying planes telling people to get out.” Good. That was a good first step.

Hayden walked by Jacob as he opened the door and waited for him to shut and lock it. “That is very sweet of you. I bet Rachel would love you forever if you helped her out like that.” He eyed the door across the hall and just went ahead and stepped that way. “Maybe I’ll take him with us to go inform everyone. He could want a fieldtrip.” Who could say no to such a cute little face? He knocked on the door. Then he froze and looked at Jacob with wide eyes. “Is this too early for little ones? I don’t know how they work.”

Josh shrugged as he heard the question. “Probably. Maybe. Hopefully?” He replied as they tried to listen to people around them. He kind of jumped when Soren’s booming voice asking about where they could find information. He bit his lip as he heard that they were sending the low flying planes. In the midst of the chaos, Josh missed a call from his father and there was a text on his phone. ‘Josh! I’m heading downtown to get Emily. The planes just went overhead, where do we go?’ But Josh didn’t get that message. “So how long before the bombs go?” He asked the woman who shook her head. She didn’t know.

Jacob nodded as he chuckled softly. “Probably. Poor thing needs some downtime to herself.” He said as they walked across the hall. “You know, he probably would love that and I’m sure Emily wouldn’t mind the break.” Jacob told him. As Hayden knocked on the door, Jacob chuckled softly. “No it’s not too early. It’s almost 8am, most little ones are up.” Jacob said as they heard a ‘hold on!’ from inside and then the door unlocked and opened. A tired looking Emily opened it as they heard yelling inside. “Mommy! Bored!” came a little voice. “Good morning guys.” Even Emily’s voice was tired.

“Ah, my young heroes have returned.” Soren turned to see General Fontaine coming their way. Cap always said that if you could get the attention of the higher ups that they would do the rest of the work coming to you. “You and your teams did excellent work last night. After you left, a new set continued fortifying the checkpoints. We should have real gates within the week I believe. By the end of next week, I expect us to have a fluid operating system.” He waved for them to walk with him as he moved through the halls. “With the quickness of the cells going up, we have been able to fast track the downtown bombing. Some other cities have done similar things that have gone successfully.” They entered a room with a long table that many people were hovered around. They had a map of the city and were planning. No. Wait. That was their plan from the day before only it now had a bunch of strategists making it happen. “We sent planes out a couple hours ago and one last wave about thirty minutes ago. We should be ready to send out the carpet bombs as soon as our specialists have them set.”

It very quickly became apparent that this was in fact not too early for little ones. “Good morning, Emily. It’s good to see you.” She looked absolutely exhausted. He peered inside, searching for Kaiden. “Bored?” He repeated with a laugh. She looked like if she had any more excitement, she might keel over. He gave her a questioning look. “Need a hand with him?” Hayden wasn’t trying to look eager but he was.

Josh turned at the voice to see General Fontaine headed their way. Hearing his words, Josh felt a smile of pride cross his face. They really were saving the world. He followed the General through the halls and they entered a room with a long table. The planes had been sent out and then they were getting ready to bomb the downtown area. It was weird seeing their plans from yesterday being put into action. “The carpet bombs are in place and ready to be used.” A man came into the room to tell the General.

Jacob could see how exhausted Emily looked. She reminded him of his mom when Josh was little. She looked at Hayden with a grateful smile but before she could say a word, a blur of an almost two year old barreled through and latched onto Hayden. “‘Ayden!” Kai said, looking up at him. “It’s nice to see you too boys. And yes, I would love a hand.” She replied, feeling dead on her feet.

General Fontaine nodded at the man but held up a hand. He turned to everyone else in the room. “Everything is going in order to plan?” He was asking everyone else. The strategists who made their plan come to fruition so quickly. There were murmurs and answers of acknowledgement. He turned back to the man who came in. “Then let’s do it.” With that confirmation, he looked at Josh and Soren. “If this works, you boys will be my new favorite people. This will drastically cut down the numbers of those infected out there. Potentially, we may even be able to spread out that way. I want to spread to the upper parts of Seattle first, though.” Soren nodded, because what else was he supposed to do? “Alright, then what’s our next action?”

Hayden felt for Emily. He could never understand exactly what she was going through, but he knew what it was like to be that kind of exhausted without break. That was what he did to himself while studying for college. That wasn’t much of a thing he saw happening in the future now. Before he could dwell on that again, he had a little boy clambering for attention. Without a second thought, he bent down and swooped Kai up into his arms. “Kaiden!” he yelled back with just as much enthusiasm. He spun them around with a laugh. “Hey,” he paused the spins, “did you notice how our names are so similar? Hayden and Kaiden? We both have ‘Den’ at the end and everything!”

The man who came in nodded once he heard the General’s confirmation and left to let them know. Josh looked at him and nodded. “It’s the best idea we have to cut down on the infected.” Josh commented as he waited for word on how the bombing went. As he waited, he pulled out his phone, his heart dropping. With a shaky hand, he tucked his phone away. Nope. Didn’t want to think about what was happening. He couldn’t. Not right now. “Well. We wait to see the results of the bombing and then we can work on fortifying the upper parts of the city?”

Jacob felt for Emily, who was currently watching her son with this man she had just met yesterday. He already seemed to have taken Kaiden under his wing and it made her happy. Her husband wasn’t around again, left to go be a soldier. Kaiden giggled and laughed as Hayden picked him up and spun them around. His eyes were wide with happiness as he heard Hayden, felt the spin pause. His head tilted slightly. “Wow! ‘Ayden..” he paused and placed a hand on Hayden’s arm. “And ‘Aiden.” He finished, pointing to himself and laughing again. The little boy squirmed in Hayden’s hold, having much more energy today than yesterday. He was bored in the apartment with only a couple books to read.

Soren was not sure he was in the mood for waiting. He felt like the longer they sat, the more time they were wasting. “Do we have housing for citizens ready yet? Even cramped or bad ones for the ones we are able to move out of those cells.” He looked around the room to see if he could catch the attention of others who might understand. “We’ve got family who needs places to be, and I don’t have enough beds to house them all.” He looked at Josh. “And I would. I would house all of your and Hayden’s family. But they’re sleeping on the hard floor.” Some of the other workers were nodding and murmuring in agreement. “We’ve got a couple of places cleared out. We-“ “Oh! Sorry, sir, I don’t mean to interrupt. But what are you doing with all the things that you’re clearing out. The furniture and what now?” The General paused a moment before answering. “I believe they found a warehouse to store it all in. Are you offering to find a way to organize that?” Soren raised both brows at Josh. It beat waiting to see if the bombing worked.

“It’s like we’re twins!” Hayden spun them once more before putting the squirmy boy on the floor. “So, my cute little twin, what do you say we leave your hardworking mama alone for a while so she can get some much-needed rest?” He smiled at Emily, who he was aware had only met them the day prior, but she really looked like she needed someone to help her out. “What do you think, tired mama? We can take him off your hands for a little bit.” He looked at all that energy. It gave him energy. It made him want to run and do.

Josh looked over at Soren, he hated waiting too. He heard Soren asking about civilian housing and bit his lip, looking away. Hayden’s family was getting smaller as was his. He had a fear inside that his dad and Hayden’s mom had been caught in the bombing. And all that left for their family’s was Logan, and Kyra. Josh didn’t even know where Kyra was. He was pulled from his thoughts when he caught Soren looking at him. “Yes sir. And if possible can we take some of those things?” Josh asked, watching the General for his reaction.

Emily looked at Hayden, looked at how excited Kaiden was and took stock of how tired she was. Kaiden was laughing at the spin and then he felt his feet touch the ground. “Twins!” He giggled as he took Hayden’s hand. Emily looked at Hayden and then at her son. She knelt down and directed his attention to her. “Do you want to go with them?” She asked and Kai nodded. “Do you promise to behave and be on your best behavior for Hayden and Jacob?” Another nod. “Yes mommy.” Kaiden replied and Emily smiled, kissing his forehead. “Alright. I love you kiddo.” “Love you mommy.” Emily stood up. “Take care of him for me? I’m going to take a nap.”

Soren grinned at Josh’s question. This was how they were going to be able to make a difference with the lives they saved but still needed to be lives. The General grinned at them. “The boys who came up with the best plans we’ve had so far? And are willing to take that chaos of a project on? By all means, take what you need.” He summoned one of the other officers. “Can you make sure they get to the warehouse? I think they will be able to disseminate everything house fine.” He turned back to Soren and Josh. “I’ll make sure that you’re updated on the downtown progress.” Soren nodded and saluted the general. “Well, Smith, I think we have a job on our hands.”

Hayden was entirely too excited about getting to keep Kai with them for a while. He turned to Emily and smiled. “Thank you. I promise we’ll take good care of him.” He wasn’t sure that he would be able to hand his own kid off to the guy he just met, but he also didn’t have a kid and no time to sleep. Maybe that was what it took. Faith and trust. With Kai in his hand, he ran out the door and to the hall. This little one had a lot of energy. “Okay, little man. We were thinking about knocking on every one of these doors and telling people to come hang with us when they’re bored. Wanna help?”

Josh nodded and saluted the General as well. “Thank you sir.” He said before turning to Soren. “I agree. Let’s get to it. See how much of that stuff on the list we can find.” He said with a smile on his face. Josh turned to follow the man out of the headquarters and towards the warehouse. Things were looking better.

Emily smiled at him and nodded. “I know you will. You both seem like fine young men.” She said, as she watched Hayden and Kaiden head out to the hall. Jacob smiled at Emily softly. “I’ll keep an eye on them both. Go get some sleep.” He said. Emily nodded, and turned away, Jacob walked out the door and it was shut and locked behind him. Kaiden looked at Hayden, running beside him before he tilted his head. “Yeah!” He said with a big smile and laugh. He went to the next door and banged on it. “Knock knock!” He said giggling.

That took care of several problems. This was why Soren liked his job. He always felt like they were really making a difference with something. This was not exactly the most thrilling work on paper, but it was exactly what their people need. He walked with Josh towards the warehouse which was a couple of blocks away. “How do you think we should organize this? I bet it’s going to look like a disaster in there.”

Hayden burst into laughter as Kai banged on the next door. “Kai!” He ran after the little boy. This must be why Emily was so tired. He wondered if his own parents ever felt like this with him or Kyra when they were young. “You’re going to alarm Paul like that.” Though, honestly, this wasn’t a bad idea. “Actually, wait. Let’s bang on all the doors!” Because if they could get everyone out there at once, it would take less time to tell everyone the plan. And even if they got annoyed, they couldn’t stay annoyed at that cute little face. Hayden ran past Kai, slow enough that Kai could catch up if he wanted, and started knocking harder on the next door as well.

Josh looked at Soren as they walked, and thought about what he asked. How should they organize the most likely disaster area that they were headed to. "Well, perhaps by room type? Bedroom stuff, bathroom stuff, kitchen and what not?" He asked as they walked. "I'm sure it'll be a disaster but it could have everything we need too."

Jacob simply laughed softly, leaning on the wall as he watched the two. Kaiden was good for Hayden, he could see that. Kai meanwhile heard Hayden but giggled when he heard the idea. Bang on all the doors? Kai watched Hayden run past him, and knocked harder on the next door. Kai took off after him, and ran to the next door after and banged on that door. "Knock knock!" He yelled before he bounded to the next door, running and happy to be doing something other than sitting in that boring apartment.

“That’s a good way to start. Maybe bedroom stuff and then once we get that done, we can do types of things like beds all together and dressers and what not.” The warehouse was a pretty big building. There were likely rooms or areas. They may be able to find way to create partitions. This was a good thing to work on. When they walked through the front doors, Soren let out a concerned breath. Oh yeah. It was a disaster alright. Piles and piles of just stuff. Anything that could have been in a house or apartment or even a hotel was shoved in this place. There were precarious stacks of furniture as well as boxes and bags full of what Soren could only guess was in them.

Hayden ran around with Kai banging on doors and yelling “Knock knock!” with the biggest grin on his face as he did it. As people started opening their doors, they were knocking on more. “Give us a second!” he called to them. “Let’s get more people out first!” If everyone was out at once, this was going to take less time. And, if anyone wasn’t up yet, he could apologize then. Who wouldn’t be though with someone working for FEDRA?

Josh nodded in agreement as they arrived at the warehouse. He looked around and blew out a breath as they stepped inside. Oh boy. Perhaps though? They’ll find everything on their list. He looked around as he walked inside. “Okay. So we should start with the least crowded corner and try and clear out space to begin organizing this stuff.” Josh said as he looked over at Soren.

Kaiden knocked on doors, laughing and giggling the whole time. Jacob only shook his head and chuckled and eventually the two of them had managed to get everyone out. Jacob was looking at the others and then he looked to Hayden and Kai. The little one was still wound up, but there were no more doors to knock on so he was standing there puzzled, not sure what to do. He was also a little nervous now seeing all these people. Kai hid behind Hayden’s legs, peering out at the others.

“Right.” Soren knew it would be a lot, but this was certainly far more than he thought. “Okay, back here? It looks like they started in that opposite corner and haven’t quite made it over here.” He walked through the winding trail, having to climb over some things to get to where they needed. “Yeah, this is good. I think there’s a good amount of space to start. We really need to move big furniture out of the way first, but we are going to run into a bunch of little stuff as well. So…” He spun around and then nodded. “But furtniture all the way against the wall and down that way since there’s more room, and then we create a temporary section for smaller things maybe… about this far out? New aisle kind of thing?”

Hayden smiled at all the people coming out, waving at them all as they finished knocking on doors. And once they stopped, he waved again. “Good morning everyone! This is your friends eight in the morning two year old greeting!” He reached down to put a hand on Kai’s back and then chose simply to sit down, he was absolutely winded from all that movement he had not done in a while, and kept his arms out to be Kai’s protection. “We wanted to extend our arms and welcome anyone into our homes.” When he said this, he spread out his arms. “This is going to be rough for a while, I think. Josh and Soren took the list, right Jacob?” He looked back at him for confirmation since he was mostly busy kicking Josh out instead of actually asking the question. “They’re going to be our inside men.” He laughed. “Until then, our only job is to survive. But also, I don’t know about you, but survival is really hard right now. So if you need to talk to someone, complain to someone, cry, laugh, yell, I dunno, just be around someone, those two rooms over there,” he pointed back towards his and Jacob’s, “are open for everyone. Anytime. Day or night. Because we probably need it too.” He thought a moment. “And I think we should have some sort of gathering. Maybe every couple of days in there where people can come and hang or whatever. That could be today if we wanted.” He booped Kai on the nose. “Did you know that we have three more floors of people to go bother?”

Josh followed Soren as he listened to him. Climbing over things as well and looking around. “Okay, that makes sense. We can start shifting furniture first and as we go, sort through the little stuff. Do you have that list so we can kind of see what we’re looking for?” Josh asked as he moved towards a dresser to start shifting the furniture.

Kai felt the hand on his back as Hayden and then saw him sit down. He sat down beside the man, almost sitting in his lap. Big brown eyes looking at all the people. He kept close to Hayden, as he looked over hearing Jacob speak. “Yes. Josh and Soren have the list to see just how much we can get for us.” He said as he looked at the people. “And if anyone has any little ones that they would like help with, please don’t hesitate to knock on our doors. I know it’s hard with our significant others and family members gone for long hours, but we’re all here for each other.” Jacob said, smiling at them. “And I agree with having a gathering if people want it.” Jacob added as Kai giggled at the boop to his nose. Then he heard Hayden’s words. “More knock knock?” Kai asked with a tilted head, looking at Hayden.
