I'm not a fan of Rulers in general. They seem entirely unnecessary to Fate. FSN worked without a ruler, F/Z worked without a ruler, F/SF works without a ruler, hell even Apocrypha would work fine without a ruler (and especially without Sieg). When it comes to Fate I've always preferred the classic master/servant pairs fighting other master/servant pairs. So that makes me dislike Ruler since Ruler exists solely to rain on everyone's parade and literally nothing else.
That's Beast's job this time.

I hate the concept of Beast too.
You would probably hate my idea for a Fate RP too I'm planning on doing at some point. Corrupted Holy Grail vs Freshly created lesser grail. A fight to save... well what is left of it after Greater Grail-Kun ended up consuming the planet in darkness, turning most of humanity into mindless mud corrupted ghouls and abominations. The classic 'Armageeden' set up with mankind causing their won destruction, but through magic instead and plenty of Alter servants empowered by the greater grail to wreck stuff. :P

What of the supplementary classes, like Gunner, Saver, Shielder, and Avenger?

No place in a standard grail war. And for the most part, no place anywhere. The Gunner class is irrelevant since gunmen would either be Archer or Assassin same as any other ranged hero. Saver is just an excuse to have people like Buddha who shouldn't be able to be summoned anyways. Shielder falls under the same category as Gunner in that there's nothing precluding the other classes from having or using shields, there's no reason you can't have a sword and shield Saber or a spear and shield Lancer. Avenger is literally the same thing as Beast in terms of story role and really don't have a purpose in any normal Grail War story.

So in short, I think anything past the original seven classes are either redundant or simply serve no other purpose than to interfere with the servant/master pairs. And for specific stories like HA that's fine. But in RP where every servant/master pair are players who want equal time to shine in the story, things like Beast/Avenger or Ruler just shut them out for absolutely no gain or reason.

They're meant for the weird 'Double Summon' Skill people, the Supplementary classes, really. People who count as 'two' classes. Its weird...

That's not a Holy Grail War, though. So I wouldn't have a problem with that. My problem is when you have a Holy Grail War but then prevent the participants from playing out their stories by stepping on their toes with outside factors. You already have 7 OP heroes and 7 Magi with their own goals, as almost every single Fate story demonstrates that's more than enough to provide a fun story.

Aye,l the biggest issue with that is well... it is 'PvP' and while it is about roleplay... ehh..... things tend to go south quickly. I love fate for the Master/servant interactions but when it comes to the fighting. while fun a lot of times people turn it from an RP into a "I should win this no matter what' and stuff quickly falls apart. Personally I think its good to have an extra side goal or thing, granted it doesn't need to be something big like the beast but having that extra 'problem' does help to promote interaction beyond just fighting and going at each other.

I guess really though a lot of the problems with that can be solved by having the right people with the right mindset though. Its not impossible to have a straight up Grail war without any side deviations it is just a little tricky at times... and it isn't like those side deviations stop all the problems with it either since in the end, its still them all versing each other so those issues do persist even if you have more roleplay built up from it.

The biggest problem with Fate RPs is you just can't get 14 active people, so things drag on and people lose interest. Another thing is people are way too timid. They try to act "smart" and be all tactical and cautious, scouting and waiting. So nothing happens. You NEED things that shake up the RP, not outside factors but just servants an masters actually going out and doing stuff. When everyone tries to play it smart nothing happens. So you combine this with half the participants not being active and you get a dead fate RP. No amount of rulers or beasts change this. If the beast is suppose to provide a "side objective" then you could just as easily have played a normal servant and done the same thing. Be Caster and summon an eldritch abomination that threatens the city so people can fight. That's why I find rulers/beasts/whatever to be redundant and harmful, they simply play no role other than getting in the way. But the biggest issue is lack of activity. It doesn't matter if you have someone going out and doing stuff if nobody else posts, as we saw with Birdsie's last attempt that died quickly because nobody posted.

That's why I didn't just remake Assassin from the last RP, because assassins have to be passive and reactionary and that doesn't work if everyone else doesn't act. So in both Infinity and this I'm someone who can and does act, at that point it's just people not posting rofl.

You've got a distinct point with the Caster. And 'waiting' isn't in the persona of everyone. Some masters will drain the city, some masters will outright raze it. Some assassins will go out for ice cream. Its highly dependent on the fact of 'What's the best route' and that isn't always 'Sit out the war in a bunker, and go out to kill people'

Of course, that rp is also stalled due to waiting on one person to post.

Ideally. But usually everyone wants to be that smart kid and so nobody does anything. I've seen very few Fate RPs where people went out and did stuff, almost all of them people were timid as hell.

*Whistles innocently as the plots to kill everyone are thrown around*
*Whistles conspirationaly*

Oh, not this time. There'll be at least one dynamic duo doing dangerous duties to defeat dastardly deviants.

Personally, I don't wish to stay inside.

Then you have Archer. They have Independent Action, and it's either low or high. If its high, that master better have some damn good reasoning to not let them experience the world.

I already know that it's not going to be an issue for this RP. I'll make sure of that. What's going to be the death of this RP is people not posting regularly.

I sincerely hope that doesn't happen...wait. Shit. You're Caster. Oh god.

Aye, Archer was fun for me when I played one. She was the very playful type going around checking things out, wandering up to a servant dealing with some casual minions throwing some information their way. Not that she didn't fight, she did jump in action if something was happening that threatened the lives of the civilians, she just tended to mess around more when she had the chance. :P
